"I find that imagining I am going to wake in the morning and read in the NY Times that Trump is dead puts me to sleep immediately."

That's the second-most-liked comment at "Wide Awake at 3 A.M.? Our Readers Offer Advice. Well readers share a range of strategies they use to get back to sleep in the middle of the night" (NYT).

It isn't going to end well.

They will never leave us alone.

This will only end when we are subjugated or they are defeated.

This is nothing new. Dems gave awards to artists and writers who fantasized about killing or overthrowing the Bush Admin.

Huh. In my imagining, Trump’s death is announced on NPR. Oh well, everybody’s going to have their own take on this.

Sleep tight! Don’t let the bedbugs bite!

That's a really weak, boring, and stupid joke but it still gets lots of laughs from the smartest, best people.

and that reconciliation is what has to happen for democracy to continue here....

That reconciliation can never happen if your political opponents want you dead. I've said it before. Yes, the left are the baddies.

Mr. Wibble,

Yes, the "assassination porn" thing has been going on forever, but especially in the last twenty years. (Nicholson Baker had a whole book on the Bush assassination, yes?) What's interesting is that it kept on right through Obama, too -- still from the Left, not the Right. I get the impression that there were some Lefties that wanted Obama dead purely to prove that what they'd always thought about our incurably racist, white-supremacist country was actually true. Whereas all "we" ultimately got was AOC's rape fantasies.

You’d think that either “Biden has stroke, Harris invokes 25th Amendment” or “Biden dies, Harris sworn in — Stacy Abrams likely VP choice” would keep people up at night.

Ann, you're going to need a bigger blog, as Insty says. Scott Adams today was talking about "Long haul TDS". It seems to be a real thing, but I know of no well-done studies on the syndrome.

Corey Doctorow recently had a 4 part podcast of how Disneyland manages demand for its rides. Crowd control, yes, but more than that. I found it very interesting.

But to Ann's point about everything being about Our president emeritus in podcast 3 Doctorow went off on him for a minute or two.

No apparent reason, he just had an itch that he could not ignore. I think he hold pedjt responsible for the long wit for the jungle cruise or something.

In ep 1, he goes off on Glenn Beck because Beck paid a lot of money for one of the original Disneyland investor prospectuses. Somehow this makes Beck even more of a big league asshole than doctorow already thought he was.

Doctorow is not even an American being a Canadian subject of Queen Elizabeth. I guess we can let him mock pedjt as long as we can mock the queens prime Minister for Canada, the execrable Trudeau

Even as a joke, I feel sad for people on both sides of the spectrum whose first reaction to almost any topic, in any discussion, to change the topic to allow themselves an opportunity vent their spleen.

It almost feels like a political version of Tourette’s.

Hating Trump sells. They will keep doing it until it no longer sells.

All of this because Trump had the courage and character to challenge and defeat Hillary Clinton.

Melatonin or wine usually work better.

I suppose if you hate Trump you'll see him as an especially mean person and think that "the cruelty is the point" for him. But if you are forever tweeting and posting about it, do you really not see that you may be hateful, mean, and cruel yourself?

I guess that theoretically people can say that Trump lowered our national discourse, but come on -- that was already near rock bottom before he even came on the scene.

It works the other way, too. There was Bush Derangement Syndrome and Trump Derangement Syndrome, but in between Obama Derangement Syndrome got people thinking and saying the strangest things. It ought to be possible to dislike or disagree with people without believing every rumor or cheering on every insult.

Well we can compare notes. I am monitoring the trend of Donald Trump’s unclear statements about whether he is a candidate for President in the 2024 election.

Tonight, some guy from Ohio named Jim Jordan claims to have spoken to Trump personally, today, and was informed that Trump is definitely running.

The people who post hateful messages wishing Trump’s death also put “Hate has no place in this home” signs on their front lawns. Self awareness is not strong among this group.

You will be kept busy. They can't seem to help themselves.
It took me a few years to finally network into a group of casual, social singers in my city. Then our get-togethers became painful and awkward for me because all of these people, strangers to each other, couldn't let 5 minutes go by without dragging Trump into everything. I called it having Trump Tourette's.

"Ok, next let's sing God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen."
"(snort)...We won't be singing about Trump, that's for sure, since he's no gentleman."

"Who made these chocolate chip cookies? They're delicious!"
"Oh, I made those. Almost burned them in the oven though because I got so furious listening to a Trump speech that I forgot all about them."

Yes it was that bad.

The turn-it-to-Trump trend appeared early on this blog. In fact the mocking response to these reflexive regurgitaters was “but Trump”!

In case any reader needed proof Chuck is as far left as they come around here simply marvel at how easily he takes to death-porn. The latte RINO reference to NPR is your seal of authenticity.

Ok, then. Do what works for you my dear reader, but don’t stop there. Mush on, and imagine reading very next day’s NYTimes breaking story of the Resurrection where he (small “h”, for now) appears to his disciples, ascends Trump Tower, and sets about restoring and rebuilding that which had been had been unceremoniously neglected and even deconstructed or destroyed in his absence.

How many people with those signs make those comments?

Maybe many. Maybe few. I don't know. So many comments get made about a homogeneous "they" or "them" that may or may not exist. It would be nice to think that there were some people for whom decency really is more important than political hatreds, but one does have to wonder if in many people the same intensity of feeling that makes one put out such a sign also gets expressed in a real hatred for those who think differently.

Pro-marxist LLR Chuck: "Tonight, some guy from Ohio named Jim Jordan claims to have spoken to Trump personally, today, and was informed that Trump is definitely running."

Again, I think it is a very positive development that as this long weekend progresses and the pitcher after pitcher of gin and tonics flows in the basement of LLR Chuck's mothers home, our Chuck, as he does over every weekend and holiday period, becomes more and more "open" and explicit about his true leftist nature, democratical beliefs over the top marxist/democratical policy advocacy and in equal measures, praise for all leftist politicicans/media types and attacks on all conservative politicians/media types.

I believe it was over a long weekend that LLR Chuck, years ago, no doubt in a drunken stupor because he later denied he wrote any such thing, stated unequivocably and proudly that he was only here at Althouse to:
1) Smear and lie about Trump (Chuck was particularly proud of that, being willing to lie about Trump)
2) Drive a wedge between Althouse and her readership

It would take an army of psychologists who have not yet been utterly politically corrupted to plumb the depths of our pro-marxist (LLR Chuck was an early and strong endorser of Warnock in GA and for AOC for several years) pro-democratical (Pro-Abortion on demand, pro-open borders, strongly pro-obamacare and single payer) LLR Chuck's psychotic and quite often racist rants against children and black conservatives.

Perhaps Chuck's posting at Althouse blog is a "good" thing as it may provide an outlet that, were it taken away, might result in some harm coming to children and women and black conservatives who live in the vicinity of our resident FakeCon Chuck.

Thoughts and prayers for anyone within easy walking/driving distance of this person.

Might not be a popular opinion, but at the time of Ted Bundy's removal from human life and to this day, I was disgusted by the crowd cheering the taking of a life. Same as 2011 when Bin Laden was killed. Both killings were justified in my mind as those individuals had nothing to offer the world but misery and more death. But death is death and killing is killing. It should be treated with solemnity and the weight of recognizing your own mortality. Cheering for someone's death or feeling comfort from it is repugnant and sociopathic. Fully agree with those above who note that the attitude of the commenter at the NYT is instructive of how deep the political divide is for some and that until more people can learn to accept disagreement, the future of the republic is jeopardized.

Since I can't say all that without addressing the single worst example of that thinking in this community, Chuck...you are the little boy who runs up to other kids he doesn't like, farts, then runs away cackling. I believe your an intelligent person, in the sense that you are capable of study and amassing information. But instead of using that intelligence to engage with others here, your ego seems to thrive on being contrary and pursuing that contrariness with the apparent goal of being an unceasing irritation to the majority of this community. Rather than returning to the community chastened after being banned previously, you have demonstrated daily that you learned nothing and seem ungrateful that your posts are published again. While others have enjoyed using your need to validate your hatred for Trump, I think it's safe to say most of us would prefer you move on. Please remain partisan in whatever way suits you, but there must be other topics with which you can thrill us with your acumen. And please take this in the intended spirit: I would not want you to stop commenting or not have your comments published, but at the moment, I rarely read through your comments because I know they will almost always be about one thing and almost always worthless because of the utter lack of introspection that lies behind them.

And to be balanced, Drago, once I see you respond to LLR Chuck, I tune out as well. Let's stop feeding the troll. If Chuck can't play nicely with the group, we should isolate him and not his fire our oxygen.

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend, especially if you, like me are able to enjoy the extra day of rest in the US.

Your perspective and advice is always welcome here v.b.

Have a great weekend! I know I will! A hop in a WWII aircraft is happening in just a few hours from now....assuming LLR Chuck's "heroic" democraticals haven't outlawed use of gas powered engines.

So is Kathy Griffin gonna do the Trump's head thing again?

What is wrong with these people...TRUMP IS NOT PRESIDENT... The Fraud Biden is.

And Biden is doing more to make a Republican majority in both houses.. and maybe get Trump re-elected, than anyone else.

And Mitch McConnell surly won't support a Biden impeachment for that very reason. Biden is like Hitler in that Hitler was the best weapon to use to defeat Nazi Germany. Biden will bring down the Democrat party if left alone to keep doing damage.
