Meanwhile, Harris is on a trip to Singapore and Vietnam. AP reports:
A longtime district attorney and former senator, Harris is largely untested in international diplomacy and foreign policy. Her swing through Vietnam could draw unwanted comparisons between the humiliating withdrawal of U.S. troops there in 1975 and the tumultuous effort this week to evacuate Americans and allies from Afghanistan.
And it’s all happening in the shadow of China, whose growing influence worries some U.S. policymakers. “She’s walking into a hornet’s nest, both with what’s taking place in Afghanistan, but also the challenge of China that looms particularly large in Vietnam,” said Brett Bruin, who served as global engagement director during the Obama administration and was a longtime diplomat....

Their only actual bona fides were being "Not Trump" That's about as deep as most left-wing voters go. (In my personal experience. YMMV)
Maybe she could stop by Hong Kong, and see how the Democrats Chinese buddies are doing.
I feel sort of bad for Biden. I mean, he wants to do the "right thing" but, according to LLR Chuck and Left Bank and Howard, Biden is completely unable to unwind the Trump plan for evacuation and Trump's plan called for the President of the US to sit for interviews in late August of 2021 and not remember where we have troops stationed, whether or not he was ever told about needing to keep residual forces in place to provide security for the final drawdown, have no idea how many or where any Americans are hiding and to not even know if people are dying in Afghanistan!
Can you believe Trump's plan did all that to poor, poor, honest Abe-like Corn Pop poppin' Delaware football playin' Joe Biden?
Well, no wonder the democraticals are thinking its time for a switcheroo with Slow Joe. Getting rid of Slow Joe might be the only remaining option to break the Trump Plans Magic Spell that has Slow Joe trapped, TRAPPED I tellya!
Public Service Announcement: After a detailed search of many legacy media outlets across the globe, approximately ZERO of those outlets has ever used the term "Trump/Biden" plan. That was the term that some of the Althouse pro-marxist lefties were using yesterday as a feeble attempt to transfer blame from the Ice Cream Child-Groper Boy.
"Most voters believe it’s likely that President Joe Biden won’t finish out his term of office"
Considering that he fled from Camp David to Delaware, will he finish out the week?
"and don’t think Vice President Kamala Harris is ready to step up to replace him."
Considering that Dems had such a low opinion of her that she didn't make it to the first primary, why should voters in general think otherwise?
"A longtime district attorney and former senator, Harris is largely untested in international diplomacy and foreign policy"
Is she actually "tested" in anything? Besides, you know, . . .
We are 7 months into a Presidency, in one of at least 3 major crises (2 of a foreign nature), and our President is publicly MIA outside of scripted interactions and ignoring major ally urgent phone calls (Britain PM/Afghanistan).
With a VP who is also MIA and avoiding tackling issues.
This is what happens when you elect non-executive politicians.
I said in a previous thread (this is repeated from there):
“You are presupposing that Biden serves for four years. I find that assumption highly improbable, because even with the best medical care, he still is facing the ravages of a degenerative disease. He isn’t getting less senile as time goes on - he is getting, demonstrably, more senile as time goes on. If he were your parent, you would probably have already removed all the guns from the house, and taken his car keys away from him. You take them away because if you don’t, you will find them driving around aimlessly miles from where you expect them.”
Articles out now suggesting that the Dems are waking up to a monumental problem. They have depended on Harris’ tie breaking vote in the Senate to got any of their radical agenda enacted, or get their radical nominees confirmed. She becomes President, and this ends, until her replacement is confirmed, and that requires a Senate vote, where she would no longer provide the tie breaking vote. Several of their most radical nominees are still awaiting confirmation. But maybe more importantly, they are trying to slip another $3 Trillion in graft into their “Infrastructure” bill, through Reconciliation, trying to override state election integrity measures, such as photo ID, in order to institutionalize the voter fraud that brought them the Presidency and Senate this last election, etc. this likely ends, when Biden dies, or is replaced through the 25th Amdt. That means that they can’t afford for that to happen.
But Biden very much appears to have been sliding. He is showing more and more symptoms of progressive dementia. His tempering is shortening, and his ability to empathize has essentially gone to zero. This may be accelerating with his being forced to fake competence and normality in the face of catastrophe. He probably should be replaced as soon as possible - but politically the Democrats probably cannot afford to do so. He has 3 1/2 years until the end of his term. I doubt he makes it, even with a private physician, and Walter Reed as backup. He probably only needs to last until November of 2022, since, right now, the Dems are likely (even with enactment of HR/SB-1) maintain control of at least the House, and everyone in Congress knows that. Can he be made to continue breathing until then? The suggestion is that even that might not be sufficient to activate the 25th Amdt, installing Harris as POTUS. Would the Democrats running the WH actually pretend that he is alive, when he isn’t? They pretend that he is running the country, so why not?
But more people voted for her and Biden then ever voted for any ticket before! Did they make a mistake?
If the side chat is to be believed, the video of the George Stephanopoulos interview with Biden did not include everything. There is a part of the transcript that is a whole lot of befuddled word salad (about his son Beau).
My wife and I thought George seemed "off" in his demeanor. I said he sure seemed to have gotten "old" on us - he is younger than we are.
Now I think that he was sitting in the presence of death, and smelling it. Can see it in his eyes.
Trudeau says he called Hillary. Biden didn't take any calls for a day and a half, remember.

This is not how the steady hand of a man with a plan works.
i was talking to my Life Long Bleeding Heart Liberal mom last night;
and i casually meantioned that "Harris isn't the sharpest hoe on the street corner"
(which i thought was pretty funny),
and my mom asked what i meant (not getting the hoe apart, at all)
I said, well, Kamela Harris owes her political career to Willie Brown
And my Politically Active, MSM reading mom said; "Who's He?"
Want to know WHO the 29% percent are, that think Harris is 'very qualified'?
They are people that have NEVER heard of Willie Brown
That leaves, of course, Speaker Pelosi who has more brains than both but has jettisoned them to serve her TDS.
Given the current state of the world and the questions about the health of President Biden, why is the VP Harris leaving Washington, DC, let alone the country?
Have we really had a qualified president for the past two decades? How many presidents in our history have been unqualified? (I'm guessing a fair number).
Kamala Harris has so far been essentially invisible, a non-entity,(probably better than if she were trying to assert herself.) But then, before Dick Cheney made himself into a sort of co-president to Bush, most of our vice-presidents have been essentially invisible; their purpose is to stay out of the President's way and not take attention away from the chief executive.
On the bright side, we don't know that Harris is on the China payroll, they way we know that teh Biden family is.
So when the Vietnamese look at her, they won't necessarily seen a CCP puppet.
With this Administration, we have to take what small joys we can get
I've flipped on Kamala. I now think Biden is a bigger existential risk. And she might actually get something done by championing marijuana legalization.
Andrew out. Gavin out. Jokamala out.
D. J. T !
Well, isn't it nice we've got two competent people in charge in the US instead of that horrid Trump?
Wasn't that the narrative for Biden/Harris? Getting the 'Adults' back in charge?
Yeah. That's working out real well...
Yet they claim Joe and Kamala will talk to America at 1 PM today....TOGETHER. Will she be on video?? The whole administration is a joke...and the world is laughing at us. So glad there are no more mean tweets though.
What's to say about any of this? Who didn't see this coming? Even Democratic voters saw this. None of them wanted Kamala in their own primary. She couldn't draw 1% of her own party faithful and dropped out before Iowa. No one wanted Kamala.
And Joe? He was losing badly until the party heads determined that they had to run him. So they did, by requesting that he stay home and they'd arrange it from there.
What's there to say now?
Oh Kamala Harris has had "international experience". After all when she was in California state government she made frequent visits to the Mexican border--or so she says. And really the Mexican food in Southern California is better than what you can get in the Bay Area. And didn't she have a recent trip to Central America? And now she's off to Singapore for satay, and Ho Chi Minh City for pho. She's a well rounded international traveler and diplomat.
Truth to tell she's as ready as she's ever going to be for her potential role as President.
That was also true when she ran in the Democrat primaries in 2020--and withdrew before the first primary was held. Her problem is that she's not now, and never was, ready for prime time.
"To see survey question wording, click here."
I can't say as I remember seeing Rasmussen directing us to see the wording of their surveys. Perhaps they always do. My BS meter can't make out why in this case. Either they're apologetic for something that reflects negatively on the left or they're surprised so many Americans could possibly believe she's qualified for anything...
A Scenario
Impeach Kamala Harris, the Border Czar, for allowing 1500 Covid infected illegals to be sent to McAllen Texas and for many similar instances, thus turning border enforcement into a super spreader event. She resigns.
Choose a capable vice president, even an Independent. Joe Manchin. No Obama or Clinton hacks allowed. No defund the police mayor. No NY or CA politicians.
Joe Biden resigns.
I think Meade is right about the two-step, but it’s going to be Hillary instead of Trump. So a little less braggadocio, a lot less competence.
What could possibly go wrong?
Translation. The election was stolen.
Decent argument that Biden is the least bright POTUS and Harris the least bright VPOTUS we have ever had. China is very happy the manufactured virus somehow managed to get out of that lab.
"...said Harris was qualified to become president...29% who think she is Very Qualified..." Yep, and "...8% of respondents to polls thought that the King of Rock n’Roll may be living it up somewhere..."
Harris is an empty dress.
(Or a pants suit.)
Unlike Hillary or Warren, this Republican believes she is incurably dumb.
Today's press conference - cancelled.
Most common speculation- they (whoever the "they" are) couldn't get the drugs to work to keep him upright and able to read the teleprompter.
Biden can't even put together a 10 minute vacant-eyed "read aloud" and has disappeared once again while Kamala remains somewhere with No Proof of Life and Jen Psaki just can't make it to a briefing all the while the world is watching and licking their chops and preparing to do all the things they dared not to do prior to the "election" in November.
Not to worry though. The Taliban has promised to cease their beatings of women and children with chains, I should say as LLR Chuck and Howard have assured us all: the "relatively peaceful" beating of women and children with chains, for long enough to allow some Americans to pass thru the murderous islamic-supremacist checkpoints, or as a certain nurse in WI would say, "spark of divinity" murderous islamic-supremacist checkpoints, and get to the airport.
It appears more and more each day that what we have here now is America Held Hostage, Day 4 (or 5? or 6? Or.....)
Is it time to bring back Ted Koppel yet? Why not? He's a huge Biden fanboy suckup so he should be able to be "objective" about all this....
"Articles out now suggesting that the Dems are waking up to a monumental problem. They have depended on Harris’ tie breaking vote in the Senate to got any of their radical agenda enacted, or get their radical nominees confirmed."
Anyone who considers the Democrats' agenda or nominees "radical" is someone who rejects warm milk as a drink fit only for wild-eyed bomb-throwers.
"But more people voted for her and Biden then ever voted for any ticket before! Did they make a mistake?"
That depends on their reasons for voting for Biden and Harris. I'd guess the majority who voted for them were voting against Trump.
Listening to Biden’s status update… Well, goddam! Things are going great. It’s Miller Time!

I wrote this same comment at least a couple times here at Althouse last Winter- no matter how awful Harris is, she is better than having a demented Joe Biden as President. You literally can't have a president who can't take the calls from allies in a crisis in which they have a material stake. I can tell you why Biden didn't take the calls- he literally couldn't. I think that is why he stayed at Camp David all weekend, and it is probably why he was sent to Camp David rather than Delaware last weekend- he had to be hidden in a place from which there would be minimal pressure to the White House. Just think about it- if he had been in Delaware, he couldn't have hidden out there until Monday, and going from there to Camp David in a crisis rings too many alarms.

Look, there are a lot of people who DO believe she is capable and yes, there are some who don't. And they will never come to an agreement about that. Ever. But there is one thing EVERYONE agrees on. The girl really knows how to suck a cock!
Here’s a question for Con Law professor (or Con Law Professor Emerita). If the House were to flip in 2022, and if a Bill of Impeachment were to be voted against Joe Biden, is there a way the Chief Justice could, within the Constitution, delegate his duties to preside over the Senate trial to an Associate Justice? Like, perhaps, Clarence Thomas?
"and Ho Chi Minh City for pho"
I'm guessing it's really, really good.
"Translation. The election was stolen."
Stolen elections have consequences.
God damn it, Althouse.
I had no intention of commenting on this post. But I see myself name-checked, and attached to a complete falsehood:

No. That crazed insult to me isn’t merely untrue; it is the total opposite of what I have previously posted on these comments pages in good faith and in direct response to the substance of Althouse’s blog posts.
I think that Trump’s Afghanistan withdrawal plan was idiotic. And that it was idiotic for Biden to have followed any of it. I don’t excuse Biden one bit. I didn’t support anything about any withdrawal scheme. Not Trump’s bumbling, half-assed scheme; not Biden’s rushed, forced, incompetent handling of an insane idea.
And what we see are your MODERATED comments, Althouse?!? You approved that Drago comment?
I think the majority of Moderates at least are coming to the realization that Biden didn't actually win the election. This spurt of Dementia/AIDs isn't a surprise to most Republicans though. The Democrats are still hallucinating off the fumes of CNN and MSLSD.
Robert Cook - wondering if you buy the lie that Joe and Hunter are NOT corrupt?
The Biden family made rich by corrupt international deals using Biden's connections to power -
That's not milk and cookies - that's something that would land most people in prison.
Biden is literally turning the pages with his pre-written answers as he goes from one pre-scripted question to another with "journalists" in a pre-determined order!
Joe Biden: "Now, I gotta, my next question is from Stephanie Ramos......."
They aren't even bothering to try and hide it anymore.
What is really "sweet" and "understanding" is how obsequiously polite the press corps is in making sure to not interrupt Biden as he is reading his answers to the "spontaneous" questions.
Anyone who considers the Democrats' agenda or nominees "radical" is someone who rejects warm milk as a drink fit only for wild-eyed bomb-throwers.
Anyone who favors warm milk as a drink is someone who secretly longs for Mommie's breast, which also explains that person's longing for Big Brother.
Well, Ann, you were the one predicting that Biden would resign by March 1 for Harris to take over; how's that prediction holding up?
I disagree with those predicting an early Biden exit and have come to believe there will be no disaster from this administration large enough to force his early departure.
They needed a few days and an extra hour but with this 'press conference' he and his allies in the media have begun yet another Biden reclamation project.
5 scripted questions with scripted answers and the fake "journalists" waiting until the very end to yell additional questions at Ice Cream Boy as he departs knowing he is not going to answer them so they, the fake "journalists", can then claim "see, see? I yelled hard questions at him......I'm a real journalism-er!!"
Unfortunately for the democraticals and their pro-marxist LLR allies, this isn't going to get it done....particularly after Dementia Boy claimed that our allies were just so pleased with his performance......a claim he makes after being condemned in the British Parliament!
Yes, they really do think they can repeat the same handful of talking point lies and then just........move on....

"Now I think that he was sitting in the presence of death, and smelling it."
A possibility. One can. When it happens, it is most disconcerting. Biden has looked and sounded unwell even by the standards of the past year, going beyond mere senility and incoherence. Not talking to Boris? Gimme a break.
Are Dems propping him up as long as possible to be sure to pass their 3.5 trillion not-radical-says-Cook plan?
Has any "reporter" asked about his medical condition, drugs he takes, latest medical exam?
From the point of view of North-Korean-style leadership theater, even Kamala's travel makes sense: instead of having her obviously waiting in the wings, it conveys a sense of quasi-normality, for the time being.
But if Biden really is declining faster than anyone thought, Nancy better hurry. That'll be the real tell.

I saw a report yesterday that at the current juncture Harris doesn't want the Presidency. Maybe she's not so dumb afterall…
Biden cannot govern. Biden cannot be replaced by Harris without losing the tie-breaker in the Senate. They can’t pass their psycho agenda without 51 votes. The 25th Amendment cannot be employed. Catch-25
So, the consensus was that it was going to take the Taliban a couple of months to conquer Afghanistan. If that is true then the people who came to that conclusion are very stupid. Did they really think the people in the Afghan National Forest were going to risk their lives when the consensus was that they were going to lose? And even if that was the consensus, the sensible thing is to plan for the worst. The decisions that led to the present situation were made by stupid people for political purposes.

I'm sure they're each corrupt in their own ways, but when did I ever try to deny this or defend them? (I certainly didn't support or vote for Biden.) If you're referring to my scoffing about "radical" Democrat policies and nominees, that is a different matter.
"Anyone who considers the Democrats' agenda or nominees "radical" is someone who rejects warm milk as a drink fit only for wild-eyed bomb-throwers."
Open borders (during a pandemic, no less), profligate spending, defunding the police, pitting race against race as a policy, purposefully choosing energy dependency, … I'm sure I'm missing things.
Radical is too mild. It's insane.
"Anyone who favors warm milk as a drink is someone who secretly longs for Mommie's breast, which also explains that person's longing for Big Brother."
A dubious claim, even as a weak rhetorical response, but I guess it could be true for a few. I don't favor warm milk, (or Big Brother), so I can't say.
Catch 25 for the Dems. If Harris becomes Prez there is no tie breaking vote in the Senate. There certainly won't be a vote for any Vice Prez nomination that will garner (lol) more than 50 votes. Cocaine Mitch has his Senate cartel in hand.
Under the 22d Amendment, Harris can only be elected President for one term if she takes over for Biden now. If she takes over for Biden with less than two years remaining on the present term, Harris can be elected for two subsequent terms as President.
Mike (MJB Wolf): "45 comments in I’m hoping someone mentioned the Catch-25 restricting Democrats from acting. If not I’ll be back to mikesplain it."
Elevating Kamala results in a 50-50 Senate with no way to gain tie-breaking votes for as long as the Republicans want to hold out.
But you forget, Romney and about 5 other republicans openly work for the democraticals and about 25 more can't wait to help the democraticals everytime they think they can get away with it.
Since the utterly corrupted Sen Burr of NC is already retiring and looking forward to a retirement fully funded by Sen Warner of VA's tech pals (which is why Burr allowed Warner to run the Senate Intelligence committee for all 4 years of Trump's Presidency and Burr helped to bury any and all information that would prove negative to the democraticals) so there is no reason Burr wouldn't just give the democraticals everything they wanted and waltz off into the sunset.
"During the Vietnam war, James Reston of the then-great New York Times repeatedly criticized Lyndon Johnson for dealing with the politics of his problem, not with the problem itself. Biden is trying the same thing. Didn't work for LBJ; unlikely to work for Biden either."
- Brit Hume tweet
I disagree with Brit Hume. It will work for Biden and his allies, even when the Taliban restarts separating heads from torsos.
We are so manipulated by the media- we don't even know it.
Recall that covid shut down the final democratic primaries. Biden won by default.
Fast forward to the election with Trump and all the shenanigans. I feel strongly the election was rigged.
Catch-25 presupposes that absent Kamala's tie-breaking vote the Senate will be unable to confirm a new VP. But it has been pointed out that there are a few nominally Republican senators who would be happy to vote with the Dems in this case.
No matter who gets elected next, I have a sneaking suspicion we’ll be back in Afghanistan regardless, within the next 10-15 years.
But seriously though… are we really ready for a Cackler-in-Chief?
Wow - CNN unhappy with Biden - calls his failure what it is... failure.
do we finally get some honest reporting out of CNN?
There was going to be a joint press conference?
Whoa, Nellie.
The Democratic Party is unraveling fast. Good riddance to cheaters, grifters, racial cons and gender shysters.
Could an abdication be in the cards for the weekend?
What will the country do if they scheme some other over-the-hill hustler in as a President, or temporarily as the obvious President-in-waiting? Will Nancy yield to Hill?
Tune in tomorrow.....
Mrs. Wilson was able to protect President Wilson even after he was incapacitated by a stroke but the media is so much more invasive these days that I don’t know if Dr. Jill can pull the same trick off for another three years.
I get the feeling that Harris herself has concluded she's not ready. Up until several weeks ago, she looked like she couldn't wait to reach the head of line at Disneyland. Now she looks like she volunteered to be a Hunger Games tribute.
Proposed scenario from a commenter on Instapundit: Sundown Joe steps down, and Kamala steps up and appoints Hillary as the new Veep. Then Kamala meets with an "unfortunate accident," and Grandma Maosuit finally becomes president. Far out? Is anything far out these days?
My favorite moment in the press conference:
Reporter: Asks a question without stumbling or being unclear.
Biden: "I thought the question was..." and then proceeds to reframe the question, possibly because it was what he was told to expect, and then answer the question he wanted to answer.
...
Great moments in gaslighting.
He slurs, he spins, he fakes. He's Lyin' Biden. He needs to resign immediately and our next commander-in-chief needs to be our next President Harry S. Truman. We end this war by winning this war. We win, Islamist extremists and Salafist jihadists lose.
They die, we live.
The longer we fail to remove from office Joe Biden—Allah's greatest gift ever to the Terror of Islamism—the more complicit we are, as a democracy, in the destruction and defeat of our own country, our own nation, our own home, our own United States of America.
Biden won’t resign. But might he give a speech like this:
I’ve decided to step back and give my VP Kamala Harris the direct responsibility for running the U.S. government. We’ll talk when needed, and the final authority will remain with me. I’ll be the Chairman and she’ll be the CEO.
He could do the same thing with his chief of staff Ron Klain:
He’ll be the CEO, I’ll be the chairman, and Kamala will be the vice chairman.
Yes Chairman. It also works a TV show. Maybe I’ll pitch it to Hollywood,
“The longer we fail to remove from office Joe Biden—Allah's greatest gift ever to the Terror of Islamism—the more complicit we are, as a democracy, in the destruction and defeat of our own country, our own nation, our own home, our own United States of America.”
From CDR Salamander, the other day:
We need accountability. The honorable thing to do is to resign. If not, the proper thing is for the President to fire those who advised him so horribly. If not the President, then Congress should have hearings with a pair of pliers in one hand and a blow torch in another and humiliate people in to resigning.
If neither happens, then bad on the American people for allowing a political system to function in such a way that people such as these are the ones who rise to the top of both parties.
"If neither happens, then bad on the American people for allowing a political system to function in such a way that people such as these are the ones who rise to the top of both parties."
Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious People. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other. - John Adams
There is a solution for the Democrats. Biden "agrees" to resign. Harris becomes president. Romney agrees to break ties in favor of the administration, and in return, Harris names him to become the new VP.
Mrs. Biden might well fight tooth and nail against a "voluntary" resignation, though. This would force the unprecedented need to invoke the 25th Am., and the Democrats have laid no political groundwork for doing so. They've been consistently and vociferously defending Biden's competence, and they'd have to turn on a dime and start insisting that he's senile.
Meade @3:14pm… tell it, brother! Your lips to God’s ears…
Up above looks like I relied on poor reporting to say the press conference was cancelled.
I had to check the 22nd amendment and it does refer to “acting president” as well as being president for 2 years. There’s a difference.
Where the difference comes into play is if Biden steps aside voluntarily or is involuntarily removed under the 25th. As acting President Harris could not appoint a VP. The office wouldn’t be vacant. She’s still the VP albeit acting as POTUS, and Biden is still POTUS waiting in the wings until he feels ready to resume presidential duties.
If he resigns I’m certain Mitch would agree to any Democrat senator from a state with a Republican governor being appointed as VP by Harris.
If neither happens, then bad on the American people for allowing a political system to function in such a way that people such as these are the ones who rise to the top of both parties.
Are we sure these people 'rose to the top' or were they installed by a rope a dope from an entrenched deep state and standing, laches moot? We can blame a portion of the electorate for complacency in that case...
Left Bank writes, "I’ve decided to step back and give my VP Kamala Harris the direct responsibility for running the U.S. government. We’ll talk when needed, and the final authority will remain with me. I’ll be the Chairman and she’ll be the CEO."
No, he won't. About a hundred Federal judges with balls would be climbing over each other to be the first to kybosh that unconstitutional inanity.
"They voted against a competent President who loves America, but says mean things directly, instead of farming it out to other people."
Hahaha! A "competent" president, he says. Who "loves" America, he says. Good one!

Not, Going. To. Happen.
It would take at least one Republican vote in the Senate. And I think that McConnell has more control than that. She is too hated by the Republicans to get confirmed by the Senate. It was her adherents who bedeviled Trump for 4 years with their Russian collaboration hoax that her campaign invented.
20 years ago the Clintons had enough power in the Dem party that they could probably pulled that off. But they have been out of power that long now, and a lot of that patronage power is probably dissipated by now. Now, if you said Michelle, I would say that she was radical and unprepared, but consider the possibility. And, her husband still very much has that sort of power. I think it likely that he probably has more power in the WH right now than anyone else.

Actually, he will be Chairman Mao and she'll be Madame Mao. Add Blinken and Klain and you'll have your very own gang of four.
"but the media is so much more invasive these days that I don’t know if Dr. Jill can pull the same trick off for another three years."
Pay no attention to the woman behind the curtain!
Meade, you forgot Dr. Jill Biden for your Gang of Four. How could you forget Dr. Jill?
Tom: "Harris becomes president. Romney agrees to break ties in favor of the administration, and in return, Harris names him to become the new VP."
The democraticals already own Romney. No need to barter for his vote.
My fear with a potential romney VP is that he would be much more aggressively hateful and spiteful towards republican base voters than just about any democratical.
Not quite as hateful toward republicans as McCain, but close.
“ Anyone who considers the Democrats' agenda or nominees "radical" is someone who rejects warm milk as a drink fit only for wild-eyed bomb-throwers.”
I probably should clarify my remarks. The Biden Administration has gotten many of their nominees confirmed. Some had some Republican votes, and some had none, depending on Harris’ tie breaking vote for confirmation. Some remain unconfirmed, and they tend to be the ones I was talking about, who likely won’t have the votes of all 50 Democrats. For example, voting for their ATF nominee will likely cause any of 4-5 Dems voting to confirm reelection. I think that their BLM nominee is in a similar situation. It doesn’t matter what the people in your NYC think of these nominees and their pasts, what matters is what their constituents think. For example there, I probably know fewer non gun owning households here in MT, than you gun owning in NYC. Not even Mark Kelly of AZ, married to Gabby Gifford, wants to be on record voting for the current ATF nominee.
As for radical legislation, let’s start with HR/SB-1, which would nationalize and federalize elections for the first time in over 230 years. Biden didn’t win by that many votes, in the swing states that swung in his direction early morning after the election (PA, MI, WI, AZ, GA, NV). In most of those cases, fairly flagrant and open fraud was seen and documented. More importantly, maybe, mail in balloting and/or photo ID laws were violated and ignored, etc. These bills would prevent states from requiring state issued photo IDs. They are required almost uniformly around the world, even in many 3rd World countries, because everyone knows that their purpose is the reduce election fraud. Again, the Dems know that forcing a vote for those bills in the Senate would require several Dem Senators to give up their reelection hopes.
Enough Republicans bought into a $1,4 Trillion Infrastructure bill to get it through the Senate. But the Democrats want to stuff another $3 Trillion of grab bag progressive wish lists into it through reconciliation, that has almost nothing to do with actual infrastructure. We can’t afford the original $1.4 Trillion, and that is likely to crash the economy and set off significant inflation. But the additional $3 Trillion? It’s almost pure pork for every imaginable Dem constituency. We are talking the federal government spending more here on massive graft than our regular yearly federal budget. It’s that massive. And these Red State Dem Senators are not going to win reelection when their constituents are mired in a recession deeper and longer than the one the Dems engineered in 2008. Sure, in NYC, rents will rebound. But these Senators represent flyover country, which tends to take the brunt of these recessions.
Keep this in mind - Pelosi and Schumer are twisting arms and blackmailing their caucus members as much as they can. There are just certain nominees that they can’t get confirmed, and certain legislation that they can’t get enacted, because Pelosi has a 3 vote margin, Schumer has none, and they have too many in their respective caucuses likely to lose if they vote their way. Those are the radical nominees and bills that I was talking about.
“Where the difference comes into play is if Biden steps aside voluntarily or is involuntarily removed under the 25th. As acting President Harris could not appoint a VP. The office wouldn’t be vacant. She’s still the VP albeit acting as POTUS, and Biden is still POTUS waiting in the wings until he feels ready to resume presidential duties.”
If Harris is Acting, instead of assuming the office of President, is she still the VP, entitled to break ties in the Senate? My guess is no. But no doubt there are many who would take the opposite side.

Cookie: Hahaha! A "competent" president, he says. Who "loves" America, he says. Good one!
How long did ISIS last after Trump became President?
Who killed the head of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, an anti-US terror organization?
What happened to illegal immigration rates under Trump?
Median US income rose more in Trump's first 3 years, than it did under all 8 years of Obama.
We have a Covid vaccine (that the Left is desperate to force on everyone) about 4 years ahead of what anyone thought possible, solely because of the4 actions of President Trump and his Operation Warp Speed.
By the time Trump left office, the US was vaccinating over a million people a day, all thanks to Trump
Keystone XL was being build, the Russian Nord Stream pipeline wasn't, the US hadn't had a soldier die in Afghanistan in the last year, teh border was under control, and the US was a net exporter of oil.
That is what it looks like when you have a competent President who loves America.
It's not what it looks like when you have a Democrat President
95% chance Biden fails to remain President for the next 4 years.
My estimate.
"Hahaha! A "competent" president, he says. Who "loves" America, he says. Good one!"
As much as I hate to admit it, Trump does look competent compared to Biden. Aside from Covid (which Biden hasn't handled any better really), Trump's record is better on a number of issues. Sorry, but that's just the reality of the situation.
"Hahaha! A "competent" president, he says. Who "loves" America, he says. Good one!"
Best economy in 50 years, especially for the middle class
A border under reasonable control
Energy independence
Abraham Accords
Strengthening NATO
And his love of America was clear.
Sorry you didn't like him, but we sure could use him now.
The interesting thing about the prospect of Romney as VP, is that he could try to torpedo Trump’s campaign from there, and the GOP establishment might back him. That might be appealing enough to the Dems to actually consider it… but probably not.
