I couldn't get to see the original post on the appropriate length of men's shorts, but given past posts, I can imagine that the answer is the inseam to the ankle, etc.
I get that some men should not wear shorts. But here in Texas as the rest of the south and southwest, it makes sense sometimes to wear shorts.
There are many young to middle aged men who have the legs to wear shorts. I am turning 70 and probably past my prime shorts wearing days. No veins, good muscle tone, but I get that my ankle socks, New Balance running shoes or no socks and Sperry Topsiders may not be everyone' idea of fashion. But as I said, I'm turning 70 and don't care. Plus, dress up with some good Tommy Bahama shorts and shirts, and a guy can be in shorts and still be appropriate for some activities and stylish.
Finally, I'll give up shorts when some women give up yoga pants. Especially the ones with the panels or the fake rips.
Thanks, I always enjoy the posts you pick out.
Well, I always make an exception for when you're outside in very hot weather.
I think you should still keep up appearances at age 70. That's how old I am. But I wore shorts today — for running and for mountain biking.
I've been told that in tropical locales (Caribbean islands for instance) the only men you see wearing shorts are the tourists. Locals just don't. I suspect it's due to those islands maintaining more conventional European dress norms that we Americans. Golf resorts in hotter climes often specify that Bermuda length shorts on the greens are the only acceptable version, likely to keep the proliferation of tacky cut-offs from happening.
I caught a couple of "Magnum PI" reruns not long ago and it seemed odd to see Tom Selleck wearing the shorts he did then, which would be considered rather inappropriate now. I'd forgotten how short men's shorts were then. My husband wears shorts almost all year round in SF except for maybe super cold days in Dec/Jan. They are are all made by surfwear companies and range from full on board shorts to casual dress versions one could wear out with a Hawaiian shirt. I think it depends on whether there's a surfing/beach life vibe to where you live. They are by default usually 9 - 11" inseam measurements.
