"[F]or some men, seeking sex with a sleeping woman is an active preference, a fetish known as somnophilia."
"Svein Overland, a Norwegian psychologist, is one of the few to have studied it....
Overland believes somnophilia is part of the wider growth of what he calls 'one-way sex.' His research into online porn showed a steep rise over the past decade in categories such as 'sleeping sex,' as well as other forms of sex that are based on unresponsiveness, on only meeting your own needs. ('Flexi dolls' is another example – where women pretend to be sex dolls.) These preferences overlap with porn itself, says Overland. 'With one-way sex, with porn, with masturbation, there’s no dance, no seduction, no interaction and no pressure to perform,' he says. 'The more I looked at this area, the more you see that a lot of men are afraid of having sex. Society is becoming more pornified but, at the same time, many studies show that people are becoming less sexually active. We have young men buying Viagra, unable to keep an erection.'... As a kink between two consenting adults, somnophilia comes with rules and (problematic) terms such as 'blanket consent' and 'consensually non-consensual.'"

I think the Norwegian psychologist has it correct. Today's young men seem unable to carry on a one on one relationship. Not just with women, but with other men as well. Online they can function. In a room by themselves, on the computer, they are in the world they grew up in. They are comfortable, safe, and Masters of their Universes. In person? That's another story. And live women??!! That's a scary thing for these creatures of Bedroom Computerland. So when they finally do get a partner, they use her like they were taught- online. It's much safer than actually having to concern yourself with making sure your partner is enjoying it, or even a part of it. They do it like they did it for years in their bedrooms. Alone.
Reminds me of the old joke. "I was scared the first time I had sex. I was all alone." (Ba-dum-chsh!)

Smells like horseshit to me. Unless the woman is heavily drugged with alcohol or something else I don't understand how she could sleep through the experience. I suspect she is not asleep and running some kind of game on her partner.
Maybe once or twice but several times a week over apparently several months? And she claims not to have realized it. Where does she think the mess is coming from?
I wonder if he really thinks she is asleep or just pretending. I know Norwegians have a rep for being boring. Never realized they were so boring a woman could sleep through sex with them.
