I haven't had time to read previous cafes and comments from the past few days, so I don't know how much this has been discussed.

I watched the evening news on NBC the night of the recent Capitol incident that killed a police officer. I had learned about what happened from Twitter, where it was revealed that the perpetrator was a member of the Nation of Islam.

The NBC broadcast (led by Lester Holt) put the officer's murder in the context of the January 6 "insurrection." They showed three separate video clips from January 6. They referred briefly to the social media posts of the murderer, and if you read the example they provided, you could see "Nation of Islam," but they didn't highlight that. They highlighted words that could demonstrate mental illness.

Personally, I don't agree with guilt by association. But we all know if this had been a MAGA supporter killing a cop at the Capitol, the connection and presumed motive would have been announced from the rooftops.

Meanwhile, that incident has now faded from the news. I wonder how many updates we'll hear on the motive behind the attack? Most likely, "mental illness" will be the sufficient explanation.

Last I heard there were more than 2000 instances where the media described the January 6 riots as an "armed insurrection". Yet as far as I know, there were no weapons confiscated by the police and no one has been charged with a firearms offense.

I feel bad for UCLA, but only one team can advance. Losing to a top-seeded team by a buzzer beater in overtime is nothing to be ashamed of.

I see Karen B has returned. Brazil is doing exactly as bad as every other South American country, Karen B, of any size. What makes you think Brazil was ever going to be a success regardless of what they did? They aren't doing worse than most of the other big countries of the world, by the way. I don't know why you keep thinking they are. The numbers are big because there are over 200 million Brazilians- about 2/3s the size of the US and three times the size of the UK, France, and Italy each.

The proper comparisons are the the states of Florida vs New York, or Texas vs California. Or Sweden vs anybody with more than 30 million people. You continuously try to cherry pick your comparisons, even when they don't make any sense. Hell, Brazil has done better than New York or New Jersey so far. What say you, Karen B- should we have followed the policies you advocated for, like New York and New Jersey?

Ken B: "Which country most fully embraced the Yancey Ward/Drago/Michael K approach to covid"

Once one has allowed himself to slip down the rabbit hole with Lunatic Liar Inga, there really is no recovery from that.

One can either admit that for the first time in human history, quarantining the healthy and destroying the world economy and sentencing hundreds of millions of children to abject poverty and early death was not the moral or ethical choice.

Ken B lacks the courage to admit this and so he must constantly attempt to maintain the illusion that he was not part of the moronic sheep-like mob that allowed this and has caused unimaginable harm to those hundreds of millions while simutaneously helping to usher in the means by which the far left and big tech and repressive government actors will implement their brave new world.

Yes Ken B, I imagine you will need to spend ever more time each day convincing yourself you were correct in your horrendous decision-making processes.

Are the COVID death rates exaggerated? Essentially.zero deaths from any other cause seems strange. A few months back I read a complaint by a mother that her son was supposed to have died from COVID, and the bullets shot in his head didn’t have nothin’ to do with his death.

Ken B. will attack me next, I reckon. He figures he’s safe enough as long as that idiot Trudeau keeps the border with the US locked down.

COVID-19 and its fallout has pushed millions around the world deeper into poverty. According to UNICEF, many families are experiencing levels of deprivation they have never seen before.

The coronavirus pandemic has pushed an additional 150 million children into multidimensional poverty – deprived of education, health, housing, nutrition, sanitation or water – a new UN study has found."

Ken B's only regret?

It wasnt a billion shoved into abject poverty with no possibility of hope.

I think that basically nails the problem with Karen B. Other than the masking thing, Tim in VT at least came around to the idea that the lockdowns and school closures were idiotic and counterproductive. We are only now seeing the deaths the lockdowns and panic caused, all of which Karen B supported. Deaths from heart disease increased by 31,000 last year after only increasing by 22,000 total from 2015 to 2019. That right there is 25,000 excess deaths on the tally stick of the Karens. Cancer will speak up starting this year as all the missed checkups and screens caused by the shuttering of the medical facilities to all but emergencies and COVID lead to increased deaths. And we are only just now getting a sense from the third world of the problems caused by disruption of the typical food aid they would have received in a more rational world.

He won't get the credit he deserves, but Trump did save us from a calamity. If he hadn't pushed to open up the country last April and May- we were that close to going over the edge. His example gave the red state governors the cover to open back up and allow the rest of the Chicken Littles to hide in their basements for the last year. Half the country could shut down for a year because the other half didn't, and saved their sorry asses from a complete disaster.

It just doesn't seem to make any sense why the Republican groups of people want to cancel everything.1st it was cancel(boycott)NFL because players were kneeling and then the NBA same reason and then NASCAR because they wanted to eliminate the Confederate flag from flying and now I read they want to cancel MLB (ALL STAR GAME, 1 GAME being played in Georgia) because Georgia and states all around the country working to pass voter suppression laws say over 200 and more corporations from Microsoft to Coca Cola and when big $$$ starts calling it out, look out,EF HUTTON HEARS! .You would think with all things going on canceling events around the country is a waste of time. It's really infrastructure time now, not just something they said for last four years weekly with no effort to do anything about the crumbling state of cities and towns. Why keep coming up with a new saying every week, cancel culture=subject to ostracism? woke =we need to stay angry and woke? Got to lose the anger and become part of a solution and not the problem, would probably be more conducive to prosperity for our great Republic if elective representatives tried to work together huh, I know what an idea right. Ya can't keep saying No but then take the dough and claim you helped, most folks aren't that lame to believe that, most I say . C'mon lets go, time finally to get things done got a good start now lets go Infrastructure week finally and now that Mitch says absolutely no votes just obstruction ,just like the Rescue bill its going to be reconciliation again, oh well, that's a choice for Mitch and the gang, just get er done. DINKY DAU 45: "It just doesn't seem to make any sense why the Republican groups of people want to cancel everything"

I suppose it was inevitable that the maoist marxist racist democraticals, after spending decades transferring responsibility for slavery, Jim Crow and segregation from democraticals to republicans, would now seek to assign responsibity for the cancel culture they've established as a means to install their marxist world view to republicans as well as part of their ongoing gaslighting campaign.

I can recall being lectured at by Soviet officers as to the meaning of "true freedom" which was nothing more than justification for their creating slaves of entire nations.

Dinky's little missives are no different.

Even with the visage of his home city enduring rona, Trump had sensible instinct enough to verbalize the potential damages lockdowns could bring. The "potential secondary side-effects" Da Fauch casually tossed aside.
For a guy known for firing folk, he needed to do more of that.

Inga never reads nor understands anything, but she is always willing to link to content that has headlines that make her believe what she links to is making some sort of point....which she never makes explicit because she cant.

Which makes Ken B's moronic covid policy alignment with Inga much more understandable.....and not in a good way.

To be fair, Brazil is bisected by the equator, so seasons aren't so different in the ways that matter- sunlight intensity and temperature. If you look, South America has been a COVID disaster the entire last year, even with some of the most strict lockdowns and mask mandates. It probably has something to do with the genetic profiles of the population and their overall poverty. Most of the continent is barely out of third world territory.

Let us have five persons of distinction and judgment to make a list of the three companies guilty of the most egregious or abusive examples of political correctness. Then have an awards night to announce the winner. Then, after the winner is announced, mount a full scale boycott of that company's products. The boycott will remain in effect until the company has lost three quarters of its previous stock value or one half of its gross revenues. If the CEO of the company commits suicide after the announcement, I don't think that would be sufficient to cancel the boycott. Maybe if the HR or PR departments went all Jonestown, that would be sufficient penance... Throughout the year the wise men could announce which companies are being given serious consideration for making the list and winning the award.....I don't know if this would work, but it's worth a shot.

If you believe the covid numbers from any nation outside North America (north of Mexico) and Europe, and not even all of Europe, you're delusional. Particularly if you believe the numbers showing how great Red China is doing. But, as Yancey Ward pointed out, Brazil id headed into winter as we head into summer. What happens to seasonal viruses as seasons change? In summer, the numbers go down, in winter, they go up. And -in summer, if you get one- it's generally less serious. If we had been open up all last summer we'd have achieved hear immunity.

But now, let's look at a map of covid that makes absolutely no sense to me. The rate of covid antibodies in blood donors. Now, what would make sense would be if states with similar lockdown/masking edits had similar rates. They do not. Or if states with similar climates had similar rates. They do not. Last week when I clicked on the large map, it was the same as the small map- today it's different. And still makes no sense. Looking at the scale, it appears we're looking at a 400% difference from the states with the least antibodies to the ones with most. That's a huge difference. Now I don't know how familiar you are with multi-gallon lifetime donors- at over 14 gallons, I'm one of them. In several places I've donated, there used to be pictures up on the wall of the 10, 15, and 20+ gallon donors. No more- the 10 gallon donors were mostly white Christian males, the 15 gallon and up exclusively so. So your longtime donors who supply most of the blood are a pretty uniform group across the country. Yet- this huge difference in covid antibodies. I'm 0 for 4 on antibody testing since the covidiocy began. One of my sons is 1 for 1. After testing negative twice when he actually had it. Yeah, BTW- TURST THE TESTS!

Every time I say "Young healthy people don't die of covid" some idiot jumps in and says "Yes they do". We actually have a control group for that. 1/3 of active duty military is under 26, <10% over 41. And- you have to be healthy. Some numbers to end this:
.0007692307692307692% active duty dreaded covid death rate (1/1.3 million)
.007777777777777778% total military death rate including NG and reserve (14/1.8 million)
.02166666666666667% reserve/NG rate (13/600000)
.15105740181269% US death rate approx (half million/331 million)
Note the order of magnitude difference between each of these.

Here is an important lesson to be learned regarding donations especially if a former President is involved. Never make a donation of any kind through a website for any reason. Send money using Paypal to the campaign. That way there can be no unintended agreement to make multiple payments since Paypal gives you total control and costs nothing to send.
