I hope you have a sense of how convoluted that is. The accusation of racism against Piers Morgan is already flimsy, but Sharon Osbourne is getting intimidated for saying something supportive about her friend — as if the new rule is that you have to proactively denounce people, or you yourself will become the target. Not only is the first person (Morgan) denied a fair hearing, but the second person (Osbourne) — the one who tries to slow things and ask to look carefully at the accusation — is deemed an accomplice.
We saw that term "cancel adjacent" the other day. Osbourne is caught on camera experiencing the terror of being cancel adjacent.
Osbourne said: "I feel like I'm about to be put in the electric chair because I have a friend who many people think is racist, so that makes me a racist."

Osbourne said she didn't believe Morgan's rejection of Meghan's admission of mental health struggles was racist. Osbourne then pivoted, claiming she was being unfairly called a racist.
While trying to go to break, Underwood became tongue-tied. As she said, "Well we'll be right back," Osbourne shot back at Underwood. "Well what?" she asked. "Well what?"
Osbourne continued to press Underwood once the show returned from break. "I will ask you again Sheryl. I've been asking you during the break. I'm asking you again. And don't try and cry because if anyone should be crying, it should be me," she said. "This is the situation. You tell me where you have heard him say ... educate me, tell me when you have heard me say racist things! Educate me, tell me!"
Underwood's response contains no basis for the accusation of racism:
Underwood explained.... "To not want to address that because she is a Black woman, and to try to dismiss it or to make it seem less than what it is, that's what makes it racist"...
Ironically, Underwood's reliance on her own intuition — Morgan seemed racist to her — is the same approach to coming up with an opinion that Morgan used — Markle seemed like a liar to him.

I wonder what it says about CBS that their portrayal of the first female black Captain in the Star Trek series as vengeful genocidal leader?
If that question seems off the mark; I watched a YouTube review regarding Star Wars The Force Awakens. The reviewer noted how Disney intentionally cast a black actor to play a Storm Trooper, suggested that Storm Troopers might have been enslaved by the First Order (an organization that pretty much everyone agrees was meant to represent a space version of White Nationalist NAZIs), that they made the character a former janitor for no rational reason beyond an insignificant plot point, and that the character had no problem killing other Storm Troopers (fellow slaves pressed into service by the First Order). The reviewer was scorned across YouTube as a racist and his videos demonetized by YouTube for racists content. Years later, when all the filming was complete; the actor, John Boyega, came out and publicly denounced the writers and directors for mishandling his character and making his role more minor than was suggested to him when he took the role.
As for Piers Morgan; he is not the first on air personality doing what he was hired to do and then fired as a declared racist. Just to provide another example, look up Rush Limbaugh being fired by ESPN. The networks hired these personalities knowing their background and knowing that others would tune in to see their opinions. They provided their opinions, which were not deemed very controversial when made, at least no more than normal debate fodder. And it was the sharing of opinions and debate that was supposedly the intent of the show.
As for Sharon Osbourne; she should be allowed whatever opinion she wishes. I think her opinion is very much nuanced by knowing Piers Morgan better than the casual viewer. I also think she values her freedom of opinion more than those calling her out as racist for saying nothing. However, if Osbourne or Morgan want to protect that freedom; they need to call out the network as Boyega and Limbaugh did. Otherwise, it seems they just wanted the money and now the money is gone.
BTW - I repeat:
If I were Sharon Osbourne and Piers Morgan I'd stand tall, and defy them all, because they're wrong.

I saw a scene played out over and over in my old neighborhood of Ft. Greene Park in Brooklyn during the crack epidemic. This was in the neighborhood featured in “Do The Right Thing.”
