Cancel adjacent, Part 2.

The previous post discusses the ordeal of Sharon Osbourne who found herself in the "cancel adjacent" position.

I observed that the new rule seems to be "that you have to proactively denounce people, or you yourself will become the target," and I linked back to a March 11th post where I learned the term "cancel adjacent."

Now, I want to show you "Georgetown law professor resigns for 'failing to correct' colleague on Zoom about 'Black' students comment" (Fox News).

[Georgetown law professor David] Batson appears to nod his head but mostly remains silent as Sellers is talking.... Batson did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Fox News....

Silence didn't work the first time, but he's still going with silence. He was cancel adjacent, and the cancellation did reach out and engulf him. We are in dangerous times. What will terrified "cancel adjacents" do to save themselves?

Here's the video if you want to check out how little Batson did. That's what not to do, so learn your lesson:

Hassan Ahmad's comment of "beyond unacceptable" is yet one more example of people making a bullying, extreme assertion to prevent there being any discussion. Beware the use of "obviously," "unquestionably," "always," "never," and other absolutist statements. I tried googling "protesters with sledge hammers" but am only getting results for BLM protests. I've seen photos of one guy with a baseball bat. (And it was some PNW brand, not even a Louisville Slugger. What kind of red state Trumper would make that choice?)

I get the same kind of search results for hockey sticks as I did for sledge hammers, but with some Canadians thrown in. Big surprise.

I saw the video of the guy using a flag pole as a weapon. He's been arrested, as he should have been. We heard all last year about Trump supporters being unreasonably supportive of police, now we're supposed to believe that a few outliers are representative of the majority? I doubt that most of the people who attended the rally would have supported attacking a cop OR using the American flag as a weapon.

Stop you right there. While I'm annoyed that Donald Trump didn't lock her up, a lot of us think the Clintons are a far lower priority than the Epstein cabal. The billionaires who used his "services," and the people who covered up his prison murder. Donald Trump should have fired Bill Barr on the spot when he didn't get a sufficient answer to why Epstein died in federal custody. It wouldn't have helped him overcome overt and extensive fraud, but it would have been the right thing to do.

That's the thing about identity politics, though (on both left and right). You can't run from your identity, and if you can't effortlessly blend in you become a target. Liberals are becoming hysterically woke, to the point of being an autoimmune disease, while conservatives become increasingly nationalist- and increasingly hostile to people who aren't one of them. You may not like it, but it's how it is.

"Ann, I hate to say this, but The Crack Emcee has been blatantly violating your "n-word" bylaw for the last few days, repeatedly, in all-caps."

This Michelle bitch is serious about fucking with me. She's another one who attacked - got proven wrong - but decided to double-down instead of lowering her head in shame, because we're online and the rest of you don't say shit. Just shitty people.

Paul Mooney said saying nigger makes his teeth white. Live with it. Life ain't fair, as y'all are always insisting in your best Barry Goldwater impressions.

Bill Clinton flew there 26 times. There's photos of him getting massages from girls. There's a painting of him in a dress.

Yes, but Clinton isn't, as far as I can tell, the one funding this pedo conspiracy. I'm sure a full accounting would absolutely expose Clinton and force him to pass away before he could do hard time, but he isn't even the biggest fish to visit Epstein. Never mind the questions as to where Epstein got all his money, and why his "partner" was the daughter of a famous Mossad double agent in the UK.

Right - even though nit already happened to me - on the left and right. I'm the ignorant party here.

I've lost my wife, money, career, all my friends, and reputation - in a battle you still won';t help ME with - tell me who I'm supposed to feel sorry for now? A millionaire named Piers Morgan? Sharon Osbourne? White college professors? NYT writers? Who?

You guys are an insult to logic.

Yes, Prof should enforce her rule, evenhandedly.

Barry Goldwater already lost that argument half a century ago.

You guys are lousy historians.

The Crack Emcee,

I say that Ann has announced a rule and explicitly said it applies to everyone on the blog. You refuse to do so -- in fact, you violated it yet again while responding to me just now, purely for kicks -- and I called on her to either enforce the rule or admit that it doesn't apply to you. This makes me a "bitch" who is "serious about fucking with [you]."

OK, I can handle that. I am one of the few people who post here using my real name in full. Anyone who wants to can read what I write and connect it with my identity, which is not at all hidden. Your language is childish, but I'm used to working with children, too.

But you do Ann (and Meade) a genuine disservice by asserting that they don't mean what they say. You really do. Ann can covert you to This post has been removed by a blog administrator in a trice, and I trust that she will.

Why drag Barry Goldwater into it, anyway? Ann didn't refer to him in asserting and defending her rule, nor should she have to. In fact, she had no need to say anything at all, and only did so b/c someone, namely YOU, refused to follow it. You are the only one here who does not. Call it off already.

There is a certain cohort that uses the n word freely. Also morherfucker. Ann must realize the cohort is inarticulate without it.

"Lousy historians." Ouch.

My mind is empty of Goldwater lore, but I do recall Jimmy Carter explaining once, on live TV, that life isn't fair.

"Being openly racist."

Democrats talked as if the Trump presidency was like Nazi Germany in the 1930s, but the reality is we now live in East Germany, 1974.

Fuck. 1989 would be 15 years off, then...

It largely is about women. Trump's gender gap was enormous and cancel culture is a late stage symptom of TDS. I lived with faculty on campus at a major California university so I saw this first hand. I saw and heard things I shouldn't have seen. There was not ONE female faculty member --tenured or otherwise -- who didn't suffer from TDS. The men were more circumspect or kept their mouths shut.
Yes, I applaud the left eating their own but let's not pretend that women and especially women on the left aren't the major drivers here.

Agree with others about the left eating their own in the case of these two law professors.

"Brecht Girl" Arturo doesn't care about you or your opinions; Brecht Girl want to equate 2021 America with 1921 Weimar Germany with Trumf as Hitler.

Cancel adjacent refers to the victims and collateral damage of witch hunts, warlock judgments, and protests a la diversity racketeers seeking retributive change targeting real and imagined family, friends, and associates of what was affectionately termed the "White Hispanic"... White-privileged Hispanic-Mexican-American. Also, the excess deaths on a year over year basis at Planned Parent/hood venues and offices/chambers.
