"Video Killed the Radio Star."
It's TikTok, so I need to put it after the jump. Here's the famous Buggles version of the song. What I want you to see is pocketsuke:

Yup, I can see why...:)
Toxic masculinity?
If you don't find this charming, you probably won't have anything charming to say.
If you liked that, I think you'll like this. Lots of these at their site, please book for future performances in future. Disclosure: these are friends...
sample comment: "My bf just made me cry and now I'm sittin here watching two men playing Bohemian Rhapsody on a Melodica. Idk why but it heals my soul. Thank you."
Visit Melodica Men
All that talent, and he still can't get a date. I blame white supremacy.
More inspired goofiness... This may be my favorite.
Visit Africa with the Melodica Men
The generation that will be 'storming the beaches' at...well...Stinson Beach, while wearing colorful pants and a Pokemon t-shirt, singing joyous versions of happy tunes.
No enemy force can withstand this.
Bruno Schleinstein, safe for children.
I watched him- watched Boogle- watched him again. I think he’s a musical wonder. I am curious as to how old he is... 16? Or 20... not that it matters.
Mezzrow, u lucky bastard, you!!!
What a great performance. And I’ll tell u- I have never heard of a melodica before.
If you don't find this charming, you probably won't have anything charming to say.

Struggling to decide if that is a low bar or a high bar.

Much closer to charming.
TikTok guy played just as good as the original song, which I never cared much for. In fact, that's the first time that I've ever watched the Buggle's video from start to finish.
A couple of comments on the original song/video:
"I heard you on my wireless back in '52". This line grates on my mental vocabulary timeline... did people in '52 still refer to a radio as 'the wireless'? Ngram shows that the term peaked in 1921 and had dropped precipitously by '52; after all, the transistor radio was only a couple of years away by then. I'm a 50's gen guy, and I never heard my grandparents refer to the radio as 'the wireless'. And the actual radio set shown in the video is definitely of the ~1930's vintage. Artistic license I guess.
They go on to show a reel-to-reel tape deck as the cool new sound technology. Heh. It certainly was in 1980, but it's always funny nowadays to look back a relatively short time and see that what was once considered state-of-the-art is now obsolete.
The little girl really has the '80's vibe, doesn't she? The producer's kid? What is an '80's kid doing in '52?
Since the original video dates back to the inception of 'music videos' à la MTV, it's interesting to see both how primitive the production techniques were compared to today's, yet many of the basic elements used in today's videos were present back then. It's like the basic framework formula was laid out and fixed from the beginning, and subsequently only highly refined with newer production/editing technology.
The spirit of Chuck Barris lives on.
That's just not right.
@Whiskeybum
The Buggles are English
"Wireless" is Britspeak for radio.
My father was a radio hobbyist from the '20s through the '80s.
He never said "wireless."
"Mezzrow, u lucky bastard, you!!!"
Good call. fact check: True. So many reasons.
As absurd as that was, the guy's got talent.
Can't find it on YouTube, but Steve Allen played melodica sometimes on his syndicated show in the mid-60s.

Definitely looks about 38 and probably still single. If you play your cards right it could mean a regular Friday night serenade for you down there on the farm!
If you don’t find charming what I find charming then you’re not charming.
Charming.

Roger that.
Wow, had to up my insulin after that one! Still haven't made it to the bell with "Video". Africa was a treat. Loved the costumes.
Hard to argue with 252 thousand "likes"
Billy Preston plays a melodica solo on Will It Go Round In Circles
Tiny Tim and Surfin Bird were weirder by far.
Credit for creativity for the novel instrument contraption and his musicality is decent. What the heck...good for him putting himself out there.
@Whiskeybum, @catter:
It's a lyric. "Radio" doesn't scan at that point in the verse. "Wireless" does. Also, "wireless" sounds goofy and light, like the song in general. It's ... charming!
Internet Killed the Video Star.
This guy is great, and you would never have seen it on MTV.
“In my mind and in my car”: Chef’s kiss.
"famous Buggles version"? The only part of this I've even heard of is TikTok, and homey don't go there.
Narr
I'll sit over here by myself now
I was in the 8th grade when that was a hit. The song, of course, is the very first video played on MTV, in August of 1981, as the DJs (who are the original VJs of MTV) on Sirius' Channel 8 always point out when this song plays on the satellite wireless.
I will stick with the original.
I always associate the song with another that was a hit at the exact same time.
I will stick with the original.

De gustibus....but I think their version at the 2004 Prince’s Trust is pretty incredible.

Yeah, that's a point, and I get that - that's why I concluded with "artistic license" - he can do what he wants with the lyrics to give it a 'feel'. My comment was that it grates on my ear/brain, as do lots of modern lyrics, BTW. He could have easily said "I heard you on my wireless back in '42 (or even '32), and it would have rhymed/fit just as well and made more chronological sense. On the other hand, I think he was actually trying to relate the 'I' in the lyrics to himself personally (not a general "I"), and he's too young for '32-42'.
@catter: that's a good point between British and American english. Correct me if I'm wrong, but back in the 1920's -'40's, wasn't the term "wireless" also often used by Americans for "radio"? And when did the term "wireless" start to drop out of usage in Britain?
Thanks, Rick.T.
That was great!
It's like a single incel version of Pomplamoose.
...and then there’s the “sequel”, Internet Killed the Video Star, by The Limousines.
