At the Sunday Night Café...

IMG_2578

... you can talk about whatever you like... including Trump's CPAC speech, which I'll probably write about in the morning. It's my quiet time now. Probably. So: Good evening.

The speech hasn't started yet... late for some reason... but you can watch live here

Me too. IIRC I was first to note that the "tell" was the noms de poop all referencing obscure figures in German arts of the past.

But Ritmo is easily every bit as much an insufferable asshole. He and Freder are probably conjoined twins.

In Dec, Iran executed the journalist and French resident Rouhollah Zam after luring Zam from France and torturing him. Biden's response to this murder? Issuing a report on Khashoggi, attacking Saudi Arabia, & lifting sanctions on Iran. https://mehrnews.com/news/5093263/روح-الله-زم-اعدام-شد

Freder tends to disappear when Adolf shows up.

A frequent commenter here said that Ashli Babbit "is [sic - should be "was"] an unfortunate young woman who fell for a fantasy and paid with her life for her foolish adherence to conspiracy theory." In this country, "falling for a conspiracy theory" is not a capital offense, and even acts that ARE capital offenses are not cause for summary execution. This is why the FBI agents and lawyers who fell for the "dossier" conspiracy theory about Trump could only be fired, not shot.

It is really important that we not lose sight of the principle that law enforcement officers are not authorized to be judge and jury. An LEO is allowed to use deadly force if he/she reasonably believes that doing so is necessary to prevent a deadly attack against the LEO or an innocent person. When I was in law school my criminal law professor said that, A police officer has the same right to use force as you would under the same circumstances, no moree no lees. Perhaps the shooter believed that Ms. Babbitt was about to kill him/her or the other people in that chamber, even though she did not appear to be armed, nor did other people with her appear to be armed.

What may have happened is that people in the Capitol had come to believe that their lives were being threatened, and reacted accordingly. (That seems to have been the impression that the impeachers sought to convey a short while later.) Yet so far as I know, the demonstrators did not use or display arms, and Babbitt was the only person who was intentionally killed during the "insurrection". Perhaps she was a victim of a misunderstanding by the Capitol authorities about what was actually going on?

About all I have heard in the way of identification of the killer/executioner of Ashli Babbitt is that he is ex-military. That might mean that in a fit of panic, he fell back on wartime rules of engagement, where you just shoot the enemy.

There were much bigger men who would have posed a threat, so why did they target her. Why was she there, tucker provides some answers

What a classic! An iconic classic.

Just finished RoboCop.

Yancey Ward said...

Yes, RoboCop is definitely a classic film.

My oldest sister made me go with her to see it the weekend it opened. I still stop to watch it occasionally when I stumble across it while channel surfing.

Basil poledouris score really punctuates it, the remake well the less said the better. The sequels were bad to worse. The sci fi miniseries wasnt too bad.

Mark said...

Now some preview clips. Name that movie from the line:

"Don't move until you see it. Don't move until you see it. Don't move until you see it."

Yancey Ward said...

Ah, I had to google that. Vaguely familiar, but once I saw the movie title, I knew exactly which scene it was from. I haven't watched the movie in a long, long time.

The hidden?

I would have never guessed.

Poledouris also did the conan score.

Yancey Ward said...

I watched RoboCop II, but stopped there. I don't understand the purpose of remaking it. It is like remaking Casablanca or Chinatown.

Mark said...

"Here. I'll make it easier for you."

narciso said...

I only paid to see the first, the other two have been on cable, the miniseries had a real cyberpunk feel

Yancey Ward said...

Narciso, are you referring to the movie, "The Hidden"? Also one of my favorites.

Yancey Ward said...

Poledouris composed quite a bit of music. I only remember him for RoboCop, but I see he also did the score for miniseries "Lonesome Dove" which I have seen multiple times over the years, and which I find my mother watching about once a month these days.

Clarence Boddicker is definitely one of the most vile characters ever. You feel dirty and befouled just watching him on screen.

God loves us all, you might think only you were there, out in some lonely cold distant place after someone who had cared about you died, or you might think only you were out there is some devastated landscape where NOBODY CARES ABOUT YOU and where nobody ever cared about you, but to tell the truth, God has been in all those sad awful places, God was there before you were there, and God does not want you to listen to the self-pitying voice in your heart. Wake up, learn that the ONLY THING THAT MATTERS IS TO CARE ABOUT OTHER PEOPLE, stop feeling sorry for yourself, and be HAPPIER TOMORROW than you are today, because, let's face it, if the WORLD IS GOOD IT IS A GOOD THING TO LIVE IN SUCH A WORLD FROM DAY TO DAY.

NOBODY who ever asked God for help, with love and hope that those they loved would be helped, was ever denied in any real way.

WAKE UP!

Try and learn to distinguish what is not real from what is real ---- what is REAL is that GOD created this world, including you, your friends, your hobbies, and your collection of memories ..... thanks for reading. Maybe tomorrow I will be in a good mood and I will talk about what is not real .... WHAT IS NOT REAL IS ENVY, LUST, DESIRE TO TRIUMPH OVER OTHERS, MEDIA LIES, and what is real is this ....

and you know it, because whoever you are you know what it is to be a friend to someone who needs a friend .....

WHAT IS REAL IS TO KNOW THIS, THAT GOD LOVES US ALL AND THAT WE WERE CREATED IN THE IMAGE OF GOD.

Well, I get it, little Nietzsche could have said blah blah blah and little Emerson would have been triggered, and SO SO MANY STARS OF THE SILVER SCREEN and POP ARTISTS would say ---- well so what where is your OSCAR NOMINATION where are your GOLD RECORDS and all I can say is, sigh, you know I am right ---- GOD LOVES US ALL AND WE WERE ALL CREATED IN THE IMAGE OF GOD, and that means that IT IS NO SMALL THING TO BE A FRIEND TO A CREATURE WHO NEVER HAD A FRIEND IN THIS WORLD.

THANKS FOR READING I WILL NEVER ACCEPT A SINGLE CENT FOR THIS GOOD ADVICE ----- remember your best moments, remember what it felt like to be someone who KNEW WHAT IT MEANS to be a good friend to someone who needs a friend.

Thanks for reading.
(not a single cent, ever, no profit at all ---- it just makes me happy to tell people THAT GOD WANTS YOU TO BE HAPPY and to be a friend to a creature who needs a friend ....... ) (thanks for reading)

Of course, you understand the purpose of remaking it, Yancy.

There was a remake, or more properly a sequel, to "Chinatown".

I was afraid that Trump would be so fed up with the US oligarchy that he would retire. But no. He's going on with the fight. 95% of the people at CPAC support Trump's policies. So no matter who the Republicans run, it will be a struggle over Trump's policies v. Harrisbiden.

Why hes been thinking about these issues for at least 30 years, in terms of economics certainly issues like illegal immigration came somewhat later

Interesting side note: Daughter Zoe Poledouris is the gal singing a modified version of David Bowie's "I Have Not Been To Oxford Town" at the end of school year party/prom in "Starship Troopers".

Finally watched Borat sequel. Poignant(?) seeing Pence at CPAC 2020 supporting Trump on covid, and now he polls 1% whether or not Trump excluded.

Basil Poledouris also scored Red Dawn (the first on, not the remake).

Since Willy S. wrote it prior to usage of the armor phrase, you get the points. My choice is the more commonly-used phrase (until it got tagged as racist) since I failed Shakespeare in high school.

Ah yes. I remembered. Someone noted that equity is a new buzzword. What did I see, 4 times in the local paper's 1st section headlines? The word equity.

I sat down with my nine- or ten-year old son in the mid-90s to watch "Robocop." I turned it off before the opening torture scene was over. He was disappointed, but I'm sure it was always on at his friends' houses. Never have watched it, and have never been a Stallone fan anyway.

The parents of my son's best girl pal had the same reaction when they sat down with their young daughters to watch "Election."

I got yer equity right here, in my home

I watch in sadness as my Countrymen put on the mask, because they are too uninformed to carry a handkerchief to cover their mouth when they cough or sneeze. Civilized people used to do that...cover their mouth when they coughed or sneezed.

Now, fearful inheritors of our dying culture must strap a handkerchief to their face. They've been taught in K-12 to reject God. That vacuum has been filled with fear.

Fear of what? A virus that God designed our immune systems to handle in this environment that we live in for only a short while.

Don't get on a boat to the New World. It's not safe!
Don't settle in the West, it's not safe!
Stop shooting your rockets to the stars, it's not safe!
Stop climbing mountains, and jumping off them, it's not safe!

FemWorld. Nothing is safe! Don't do ANYTHING. It's not safe.
