Topical hearsay (reported by CNN & DM):

CNN reported Friday that Trump and McCarthy engaged in an expletive-laced shouting match during the January 6 insurrection

McCarthy told Trump he needed to rein in his supporters and said they were breaking his windows on Capitol Hill

'Well, Kevin, I guess these people are more upset about the election than you are,' Trump replied

McCarthy shot back, 'Who the f**k do you think you are talking to?' according to GOP lawmakers who had been briefed on the call

Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, a Republican who voted to impeach Trump, first told the anecdote at a town hall earlier this week

Herrera Beutler and several other GOP lawmakers confirmed the story to CNN on the eve of when Trump will likely receive a vote on impeachment in the Senate

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9255877/Trump-refused-call-mob-new-details-McCarthy-call-shows.html

McCarthy seems not to have commented on this story yet.

Mark, the person who took the shot probably voted for Trump.

It was a mistake, he said it was a mistake. He will not be prosecuted. And he shouldn't be. Ashli Babbitt would not want him to be prosecuted.

For the record, in Russian, the word for insurrectionist is "rootless cosmopolitan", in German, the evildoers of the Nazi regime called the insurrectionists of the day - mostly Jews, but also everyone who opposed the Nazi regime - "anti-German elements".

A hundred years from now, the people who call what happened on January 6 an "insurrection" will be just as despised as we now despise the Commies who called good people "rootless cosmopolitans" and will be just as despised as we despise the Germans who called the good people who defended liberty in that sad country in the 30s "anti-German elements". You can already see that happening with the imminent prosecution of Governor Cuomo and the end of the careers of dozens of Trump-haters in the mainstream media. Not long from now, Ashli Babbitt will be on a postage stamp, and the people who hate her will be long forgotten by history.

-- How did Officer Brian D. Sicknick die?

It sure as hell wasn't from being hit in the head with a fire extinguisher, as has been definitively reported by every major new source in the U.S.

-- What's on Hunter's laptop?

-- Why isn't Hillary breaking big rocks into little rocks?

The guy who shot at Ashli Babbit also shot at several fellow law enforcement officers.
He was confused. He killed the civilian but missed his fellow officers.

Joe Smith - ain't gonna happen.
What you and me think is right might or might not be right, but there are thousands of very very tough people who are not gonna stand for the guy who pulled the trigger to spend so much as ten seconds of his future life being prosecuted. There will be no perp walk, there will be no handcuffs, there will not be a single moment where any law enforcement officer treats that guy like a criminal.
Live with it.
It was a fucking bar fight, at worst. People on both sides got a little emotional.
Any prosecutor who tries to make the charges from a bar fight as bad as they can be is playing with fire.

stephen cooper said...

He has to live with the fact that he was the untrained doofus who killed a peaceful protester by shooting at her while she was surrounded by fellow law enforcement officers.

So what? It is not your problem, it is not my problem. Ashli Babbitt died a hero, she does not want gamma males to prosecute the little guy who fucked up and shot her.

Do you? Do you want the little gamma males at the DC prosecutor office to try and ruin that guy's life? If you do, well, you want something almost nobody else wants.
Look, he fucked up, and all his buddies probably are mocking him for being a fuck-up.
But he goes down in history as a fool, and the woman he murdered goes down in history as a hero.

That is how the world works, like it or not. You don't prosecute people for being incompetent fools.

The point is, stephen cooper did not create you, did not do a single thing for you, but he remembers the old days when he was pals with people who were kind to you, and they want you to know you should not hate on me for remembering that. A commnenter above said , that the guy who killed Ashli Babbitt "said it was a mistake." Has he been identified by law enforcement? Has he spoken publicly? What was the "mistake"? When law enforcement kills a civilian, like, say, George Floyd, don't we normally expect more from the perpetrator than "Oopsy!"? We are in the middle of a Bill of Attainder proceeding against the former President who didn't kill anyone. So far as I know, the only person who was deliberately killed during the Capitol invasion was Ashli Babbitt. I favor swift and sure punishment of law breakers at the Capitol. If the killer of Ashli Babbitt didn't break the law, then the Public needs to know why his action was lawful.

Every report of the "insurrection" that Trump is being impeached for refers to it as "deadly."

Yet the one instance of actual "deadly" violence is that of a government law enforcement official shooting in (apparent) cold blood an unarmed protester.

The Latest: Tuberville stands by account of Trump phone call

“Republican Sen. Tommy Tuberville of Alabama is standing by his account that he told then-President Donald Trump that Vice President Mike Pence was being evacuated from the Senate during the Capitol riot.

The conversation is of interest to Democrats because Trump sent a tweet at 2:24 p.m. on Jan. 6 saying that Pence didn’t have “the courage” to challenge the election results. If Tuberville’s account is correct, then Trump would likely have known before sending the tweet that Pence had been evacuated and was in danger. At the time, the insurrectionists had already broken into the Capitol, some of them calling for Pence’s death.”

Too much anger tonight on this thread.

Anger, I'm afraid, is all that remains. Yes, the right is addicted to the politics of resentment. But they have something to be resentful about. They've completely lost the culture war, and instead of being magnanimous in victory, the cultural left wants to rub their face in it. It isn't enough for them to succeed; the right must fail. Sarah Palin and Donald Trump are acts of desperation. Cut off from the academy, the media, and the corporate world, political nominations are one of the few avenues the white working class have to land a blow against the establishment.

"Deaths among Americans ages 25 to 64 are increasing, particularly in Rust Belt states and Appalachia. These deaths, which have fueled a decline in U.S. life expectancy since 2014, are linked to several major causes of death. Compared to the 1990s, working-age adults are now more likely to die before age 65 from drug overdoses, alcohol abuse and suicides — sometimes referred to as “deaths of despair”— but also from an array of organ system diseases. Mortality rates have increased for 35 causes of death."

-Working-age Americans dying at higher rates, especially in economically hard-hit states

Last-minute call for Trump impeachment witnesses is welcome, Senate Democrat says

"Senate Democrats may be opening up to the idea of extending former President Donald Trump's historic second impeachment trial and calling witnesses as new details emerge of events surrounding the siege of Congress."

'...A report from CNN published Friday evening, offering fresh details about a contentious call between Trump and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy on the day of the riot, led at least one Senate Democrat to say he and his colleagues would support extending the proceedings if House impeachment managers indicated a desire for it.

“If they make a decision to call witnesses, obviously, we would welcome that,” Sen. Chris Van Hollen of Maryland said on MSNBC.'

https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/trump-impeachment-trial-witnesses-senate-democrat-chris-van-hollen

Inviting Republicans to also call their witnesses.

All this huffing and puffing should legally be swept away by the Constitution's Bill of Attainder prohibitions.

Interestingly, Wikipedia offers additional information in a separate "Attainder" (by itself) article. Excerpt:

In English criminal law, attainder or attinctura was the metaphorical "stain" or "corruption of blood" which arose from being condemned for a serious capital crime (felony or treason). It entailed losing not only one's life, property and hereditary titles, but typically also the right to pass them on to one's heirs. Both men and women condemned of capital crimes could be attainted.

Attainder by confession resulted from a guilty plea at the bar before judges or before the coroner in sanctuary. Attainder by verdict resulted from conviction by jury. Attainder by process resulted from a legislative act outlawing a fugitive. The last form is obsolete in England (and prohibited in the United States), and the other forms have been abolished.

Trust me, the liberals have no reason to think that time is on their side.

It doesn't have to be. They've already won. Now it's only a matter of running out the clock. The white working class is already a minority in the country, and their numbers are still declining. They've been physically diminished, economically decimated, and culturally ostracized. Non-white births exceed white births, and each year more whites die than are born. The K-12 population is already majority non-white. And even in this rump condition, they are still villainized as the boogeymen of white supremacy.

What does the cultural left want? Diversity, Inclusion, Equity. DIE. When do they want it? Now!

But yeah, Pizzagate, QAnon, our guns(!). It's the white working class version of blacks blaming the CIA for crack cocaine and AIDS. It's helplessness masquerading as protest.

You want a nice country, well then build it yourself. Don't sit around at the local truck stop listening to the potbellied old men talk about how good it used to be.

In the Iliad, one of the older fighters talks about the great deeds of his generation, and one of the younger ones gets angry, and says something like this:

The deeds of our fathers were what they were, but our challenges are just as great, and maybe even dwarf the challenges our ancestors met, so let not the elderly, who no longer can wield the weapons of war, congratulate themselves on the bravery of their days: each day is a day set in front of us as a day to be brave or not to be brave, and we are challenged more than our fathers, and our rewards will be greater.

Someone dies.

THAT IS DIFFERENT THAT THIS: a bunch of kids think it is fun to be criminals, and they kill someone. THE POLICE OFFICERS, MOST OF THEM, WOULD RATHER BE TEACHING KINDERGARTEN, and they are not happy when one of their pals fucks up.

The criminals, well, they bought into it.

This should not be hard. If I am on the jury, Derek Chauvin walks, Kyle Rittenhouse walks, and the Capitol Police officer walks. WHY IS IT SO HARD TO UNDERSTAND THAT I BELIEVE that Derek Chauvin, Kyle Rittenhouse, and the Capitol Police officer should never have been charged in the first place? There are many instances where cops get mad and kill people who were not posing a threat, and that is murder, but ffs, how can you look at what went on at the Capitol and not understand that the shooter was just an untrained idiot, not a criminal?

Also, if you think that little creeps like Gates and Fauci are gonna be in charge for much longer, well then you are right to be sad about the future. But you would be wrong.

In a complex system, there is no such thing as being "in charge." The elite don't get together in a conference room and run the world. They are united by a common background, common worldview, and common interest. Their power comes from positions within institutions, including the media, elite universities, think tanks, policy-planning committees, financial institutions, the federal agencies, and the military and national security apparatus.

It isn't a matter of getting rid of a couple of bad guys. The problem is systemic, diffuse, and has been in the works for decades.

Yes, it does. Weinstein was nothing we haven't seen before. There's a reason the "casting couch" is a euphemism. Weaver was a creep hitting on college-aged men for dates and sex. That isn't child sex trafficking.

Then what is Davos?

Vanity. Networking. PR. The place where the following year's conventional wisdom is formally announced.

Davos is a symptom, not a cause. They have much more in common with each other than the working-class inhabitants of their home countries. Their main concern is how to keep the globalization gravy train running. They've had an incredible run for the last 40 years. The Trump tax cut was just a bonus.

The 2012 GOP presidential candidate gave us a candid peak into the mentality of the world they inhabit: "These people who pay no income tax. 47 percent of Americans pay no income tax. So our message of low taxes doesn't connect. He'll be out there talking about tax cuts for the rich. I mean, that's what they sell every four years. And so my job is not to worry about those people. I'll never convince them to take personal responsibility and care for their lives."

That's really how the elite see it. If only people would take personal responsibility for deindustrialization, outsourcing, mass low-skilled immigration, and foreign work visas. Those Ohio factory workers should've just done what Mitt Romney did. Get a Harvard MBA and go into leveraged buyouts.

Total cases in US - 27.5 M

Previously I have seen estimates that there are from 4-10 times as many cases as have been reported, since most people who contract the virus either are asymptomatic or have very mild symptoms.

That would put the actual totals in the 110-275 M range, which is 34-84% of the population. And 1M+ are being vaccinated every day (although a lot of those likely already had it.) So it could definitely be burning out.
