A lot of people in politics, and I emphatically include Twitter censors, seem to be trying to whip things up.

I absolutely support sending in the national guard to quell the riot. I always support stopping riots. But it is important also to notice the double standard. Ordinary people are threatened in the street all summer and not much happens. Politicians are threatened once and they use live rounds and the armed response is quick.

An unarmed innocent young woman was shot to death while participating in a peaceful protest today.

One day, there will be statues of her in many cities, her pictures will be on stamps.

Today, creeps on the internet are saying she deserved it.

Please, if your first instinct was to think she deserved, while being unarmed, to be shot to death by a cowardly individual with a gun: if that was something you thought, please please please be a better person tomorrow than you are today, because, frankly speaking, if you thought that, you are a monster.

The woman who was shot became an instant martyr. "Merit" is a strange idea in this context. She earned that status by her unwilled and inadvertent sacrifice. My heart goes out to her soul and to her family and friends as they try, impossibly, to patch the hole in the world where she once stood.

Now she will be used and abused by the politicians, for and against. A symbol for something. Also, alas, an accelerant in future "confrontations." Her name will be invoked to justify who knows what.

These are the crazy years.

Stay safe, people. Try to get some perspective.

And pray for the lost.

Things are never going to settle down.

You don't get to disenfranchise 75 million people and have things settle down.

It doesn't work that way.

The only thing that will bring peace is for Biden and Trump to both step down and hold a new election using the laws we all agreed to.

But we all know that will never happen.

So 2021 is going to make 2020 look tame.

Losing is not disenfranchisement. That is what I have been telling Democrats for 4 years. I guess now I need to tell Republicans. Sometimes you lose. It’s allowed. I lose most of the time in Canada.

I agree that American elections suck, are not transparent, and are not secure enough. America is bad at running elections. Trumpkins tell me to fuck off every time I point it out. But even if there is cheating you can still lose. You have to accept that sometimes you lose. It’s allowed.

We all had a process. That process was abrogated.

The election was non-transparent by force.

Once you kick republican poll observers out the election is fraudulent by definition. They broke the the election laws we all agreed to. The election process was not followed.

We were all disenfranchised.

Period.

Now people will not accept the result. That is the natural result of breaking a previously held agreement.

I disinfect every surface I'm going to touch both before and after touching and use hand sanitizers liberally. Yes, and no. I’m guessing politicians of any stripe will be very reluctant to mention her name, or even allude to her. But there’s undoubtedly a lot of people out there who will take her death to heart. Unknown people now, but, I fear, very well known once their anger and frustration leads them to do whatever it is that they’re moved to do.

1) 100,000 Trump supporters at DC, and about 200 people decided to break into the Capital Building. I'm not aware of ANY violence against anyone, the violence all came when the Capital Hill police decided to start shooting.

2) We have no idea how many of these Capital Hill protesters were Actual Trump supporters and how many were anarchists or Antifa running a false flag operation.

3) This is now being used to derail and distract from any discussion of the coup run against Trump and the certification of fraudulent electors. Biden immediately made a speech after the Capital Hill trespassing, which indicates this may have all been pre-planned.

Playing the Democrats' game by their rules you lose. Insist on fair, transparent elections, before it’s too late.
On this blog I have laid out a clear strategy you can use against Democrats because it is designed to appeal to Democrat voters rhetorically.
In medicine and a boatload of other ways the Democrats point to Canada as the example. They are often wrong but this time they are right. Our elections have none of the crap you guys have. It’s simple to argue for, and it’s simple to do. But just look at the reactions here. The Trumpkins would rather “lose the republic” than even consider it. And THAT is the real reason while you might indeed lose the republic: because those who claim to fight for it are too bull headed and fuckwitted to actually do so. Petulant children like Achilles who'd rather see it burn.

Or that 499 out of 500 Trump supporters were NOT breaking into the building. OR that no one was killed or injured by the trespassers.

But Levin had to spend his whole program making sure EVERYONE knew he was a "Reasonable Conservative" and didn't support violence. Pathetic.

Two assassinated cops in NYC, five in Dallas, four in Washington State, Two in Utah, Two in Baltimore, Two in Miami, Two in Tampa Bay, One in Mississippi, Two in Detroit, shall I go on, all tied to Antifa and BLM, doesn't upset you. Multiple civilians attacked and murdered by ANTIFA/BLM doesn't even register in your bubble.

Do you need a day, Ann? Do you need a day for the hundreds of millions of other people's property damage, thousands of shut businesses, average murder rates up 40% at minimum and up to 95% in cities hit by BLM/ANTIFA violence, hundreds of thousands of livelihoods ruined by these thugs...does this "bother" you too much before you need a minute? Of course it doesn't affect your taxpayer pension, does it?

For the record, we've been rooting out federal agent and leftist infiltrators urging our members to violent acts for years in the citizen activist groups I work with. Riots are riots. This was a riot, like the ones we had all summer. Nothing excuses them, nothing justifies them, and people get hurt. The people that burned up Kenosha and destroyed neighborhoods in Chicago led to this. None of it is justified.

One thing I think everyone should be aware of. The following article was known of and circulated at least somewhat around the vast crowds before anyone went to the Capitol:

BREAKING: Pence Releases Statement Ahead of Certification of Electoral College, Says He Will NOT Block Biden’s Electors

Everyone there knew that the last non-violent petition for a redress of our grievances had been attempted, and every single last such petition was dismissed with nothing but sneers and contempt.

I sincerely hope every statehouse in every blue state, preferably starting with the ones where tens of thousands of nursing home residents were systematically executed, gets overrun over the next few days.

Good God, what a total coward! I thought Althouse would at least be able to offer her opinion about immediate experience without having it fed to her from WaPo or the NYT, but that was too much to ask.

Today was a facepunch the size of the Tet Offensive. Except real. If you're not listening to Vox Day's analysis, you're not honestly smart enough to merit the effort of explanation, but this wasn't even a battle. White male protestors effortlessly swept aside the police, and could have killed everyone left inside the House chamber if they felt like it. Pelosi had a humiliating retreat from the territory she controlled: it was worse than Pompey Magnus leaving Rome, and he ended up being a head shorter at the hands of a numerically inferior force (when Caesar entered Italia).

The left's moral bankruptcy in sneering away a dead woman is typical for the pedophiles and rape enablers that back Epstein and Weinstein, but it doesn't terribly matter. Their blindness made this moment, and it will make far worse ones to come. Big Tech couldn't even fairly win them an election. It won't win them the bloody war to come.

And incidentally, if Pence wasn't going to help Trump, he could have said so *days* ago. By delaying announcing that until today, by keeping Trump and his supporters thinking he would stand up for us, he actively participated in running out the clock. He didn't just not help Trump, he did so in the most backstabbing manner possible.

And we all know it. The only opposition to the Democrats in this country is Controlled Opposition.

At this point it wouldn't surprise me at all to find out Trump has been part of the theater too.

I think that's why the Left is so intent on insisting that the only thing we care about is Trump. That when even Trump betrays us at the last, they want it to break us. But they are wrong, and our rage has little to do with Trump. The Left has earned every last bit of rage from us and independent of their treatment of him, and I don't think I could forgive them even if they were to show remorse. Good thing that'll never have to be tested.

The 2nd Amendment is in effect on the west side of Chicago, and there is no civil order there. The police power is all about maintaining civil order, and one of the big gripes of 2020 is how various governors have abused the states’ police powers during the pandemic, citing a public health “emergency” and ignoring the statutory requirements that limit their powers.

If you think that an insurrection is the way to go, look at the history of the Civil War.

I understand a lot of people are dying from the Rona, Oregon is still being bossed about by a communist regime and surprise, today, Trumpists stormed the Capitol and made our elected idiots cower.

I don't think I've never been more proud of my fellow citizens than today. I am just checking in on the news feed and so far I'm not seeing any burning buildings, obscene graffiti, toppled statues and garbage laying around. I see some media hacks calling it an "insurrection" but I didn't see any rifles. Insurrection requires .22 long.

Being an aficionada of Portland Antifa antics, I would rate today as mostly peaceful. I hope anyone arrested gets the catch and release, even the guy sitting in Pelosi's chair. Some broken windows? What does the left say, they have insurance?

There is a lot of Washington talk about how terrible it was to storm the Capitol. Is seizing and burning police precincts better? Burning down black-owned business districts? Laying siege to the Portland federal building? Taking down statues of American heroes? Of course our elected officials think they're special. Pretty sure they're all safe.

A point was made today and delivered to the seat of corruption. Sow the wind and reap the whirlwind.

We are treated as less than serfs, all the while lecturing us about *our* privilege, as our businesses are locked down and looted, as our votes are stolen, as our grandparents in nursing homes are slaughtered, and as our every petition for the redress of these grievances is dismissed in the most contemptuous ways possible.

I don't think that "insurrection is the way to go", precisely because of the Civil War. Think about how many years it took to recover from it....

BUT......the 2nd Amendment was expressly designed to allow the citizenry to rise up against a tyrannical government.

So the Framers had to have contemplated situations where insurrection would be a necessary "way to go". And they must have wanted their new government to remain aware that it could be brought down by the citizenry if it became as oppressive as George III had been.

If you disagree, please tell me what the 2nd Amendment is all about.

"Mere surplusage", maybe?

Where was the Defense Secretary, the Homeland Secretary, the DOJ Secretary when immediate protection was needed? Strangely (or more likely, not so strangely) no official government press conferences took place.

Re: Rosalyn C:

Eventually, I am sure they will. No one's electoral systems started in a state of prelapsarian perfection. We all started with rotten boroughs and ballot stuffing and gradually reformed to where we are today which, while imperfect, is still way better than what we had an hundred years ago. I don't think reform is coming in the immediate future, though, because Democrats and journalists are now heavily invested, emotionally, in the proposition that it's unthinkable that, say, absentee ballots could be submitted fraudulently or that noncitizens might vote illegally, etc. And a refusal to acknowledge a "what could go wrong" means you can't have any meaningful discussion about whether existing controls adequately address the WCGW or whether the control framework needs to be changed. Trump's kitchen sink approach to vote fraud allegations and evidence thereof hasn't helped the discussion either.

Example set by the left?

MAGA doesn't need examples. Trump gives instructions:

"After this, we’re going to walk down and I’ll be there with you. You have to show strength, and you have to be strong."

He's also been known to cheer on punching people in the face, carrying them out in stretchers, and body slamming reporters. Not things most responsible politicians would ever say but of course he's "different." He was even, unsurprisingly, said to enjoy watching his troopers storm the capitol. From the safe vantage point of the TV feed, of course.

The assertion that MAGA knew no violence and had to "learn" it from other political movements is asinine, but if you really believe that it would indicate how empty and truly irresponsible MAGA is.

MAGA lost some senate votes today and were told they had to stop lying to their supporters. Perhaps people who care about how the law works can educate them on voting and court procedures. People who are as committed as the other senators are to stopping the lies that gave them the angry energy that Trump loves to watch.

Scott Adams called the last election "the impression of an election." He argues that people had concerns which were never investigated but rather that all the cases were dismissed on technical grounds. Then, when all the cases were dismissed on technicalities and when there was no further legal resort because Pence was not going to refuse electors and when there was no intention to prevent similar anomalies in the next election, then protestors forced their way into a space, the Capitol. They did not take over the government, they stood in a space and forced their concerns to be heard. This will lead to an effort to reform elections, says Scott. That's one way to look at it all. I guess I wonder why they shot Ashli Babbit. A soldier. A woman.
