I finished Bob Novak's book. I think being older made it more fun as I remember most of the people he writes about. What he would have made of the Trump phenomenon. His book ends with the Valerie Plame story so he was well aware of the changes we now see. No one could have predicted the current insanity, I believe, but there were early warnings.
Now began Paul Johnson's "Modern Times." His opinion of the first world war pretty much is the same as mine. Now into the chapter on Lenin who was an admirer of Mussolini for those of you who think Fascism does not = Marxism.
Supposedly the snowdrops are fighting their way up already and will be out very soon. They are under my window but I'm not just sure when they come in this place where I've only seen two springs. I think it's later, I think it's mid February. But I have seen them come right up through the snow and I'm waiting and watching.
My wife needs to regularly renew her EpiPen, and a member of my extended family is diabetic. The wife is at risk from anaphylactic shock when stung by bees or wasps, my relative requires insulin. Today that idiot Biden froze Trump's order to cut the cost of these two life-saving medications. Thank you Democrats, and may you all die slowly, in screaming pain.
I appreciate the sunrise photos- it gives me - peace. Aren’t u surprised chuck didn’t answer: at this point, what difference does it make. In lock steps/the woman who should have been (his) president? Only one w/a true blue heart could be saying what he says- no red in him.
Headline, Zero Hedge: "Amazon Demands In-Person Union Vote After Arguing Mail-In Ballots 'Raise Risk Of Fraud"
It's a union vote at one of Amazon warehouses.
"The world’s largest online retailer said that a mail election raised the risk of fraud and the coercion of workers. It also said the process would depress turnout, arguing that as many as 29% of its more than 5,800 employees eligible to vote wouldn’t do so or would return incorrectly completed ballots. -Bloomberg
I pointed out how qatar and turkey are the immediate beneficiaries with the pipeline deal qatar having become the leading fundee of islamist movememts.
Big Mike: my sympathies for your people for whom these drugs/devices are a big issue. I just don't understand why Biden would do this. It would be bad enough if he just stood by as makers raised their prices; but here, apparently, he blocked the order that would have prevented the rises (or forced new, lower, prices). So: a double whammy. And here I thought Biden was "friend of the little guy." Has he offered any explanation? Or is he just holding up his hands in that "the fish was about this long, no kidding" gesture and saying "C'mon man...the thing!"?
Stephen Cooper You were right all along but: "Fame is no plant that grows on mortal soil, Nor in the glistering foil Set off to th' world, nor in broad rumor lies, But lives and spreads aloft by those pure eyes And perfect witness of all-judging Jove; As he pronounces lastly on each deed, Of so much fame in heav'n expect thy meed." from: Lycidas John Milton

Seeing as qatar finances all sorts like nusra front and their yemeni branch i figure al queda is going to look at this delta house stunt gone awry and show what a real attack on capital hill looks like. Remember they always go back to outstanding business.
Don't get drawn in by trolls on the internet. I feel that that should be a course in kindergardens of the future. A basic preparation for life like learning the ABCs. They're called trolls because their minds are so ugly and ugly can fascinate but it can't respond or learn. Avoid!!!
Its ridiculous that tens of billions of damages hundreds of dead and wounded offices all over the country are just a footnotes to the javerts like pelosi and co. Of course i know its an act but i hate how people who should know better go along.
“Today that idiot Biden froze Trump's order to cut the cost of these two life-saving medications.”
Stop being hysterical. It’s been frozen until March to further asses how to deal with the drug prices, because Trumps plan was NOT a fix, but band aid, a bad plan. You people need to get a grip. My brother uses insulin, I keep an epi pen near me. So don’t accuse me of not caring about this issue.
“This freeze is part of the Biden administration’s large-scale effort announced this week that will scrutinize the Trump administration’s health policies. If the previous administration’s policies raise “fact, law, or policy” concerns, the Biden HHS will delay them and consult with the Office of Management and Budget about other actions.
Former HHS leaders argued the drug rule would benefit patients who struggle to pay for expensive insulin and allergy medication. However, the health centers said they already pass on those savings and this rule is merely an administrative burden that paints them as entities that price-gouge patients. It’s not clear how many facilities would have to follow the rule or face funding restrictions.”
‘@Inga, you go to Hell you worthless bitch. The only real complaint you have about Trump's plan is the name and political party attached to it. You have no empathy for anyone not named you.”
Headline Oct 21, 2020: "Guess who the pharma industry is supporting for president"
" .. the industry is shifting its support to Democrats in 2020. So far, donors with links to drug companies have donated $2.5 million to the Biden campaign — significantly more than the $647,000 given to Trump’s reelection campaign."
Why, you ask?
"If Biden wins the election, drug companies will likely use their donation history as leverage if the new president seeks to negotiate lower drug costs .."
"More medical device industry employees are also opening their wallets to the Democratic candidates’ campaign." (Read: Epipen)
Inga I tell Big Mike he posts emotionally, impulsively, without reflection. He calls me a liar. Then, like a good bigot, he makes some refer to my national origin.
Hysterics don’t even understand what Biden actually did and instead run around with their bloomers on fire.
“The Biden administration on Thursday delayed a rule that would block community health centers from receiving future grant funds unless they charge low-income patients the acquisition price for insulin and Epi-Pens, plus an administration fee.
HHS signed off on the rule in December, shortly before former President Donald Trump left office. It aims to lower patients' out-of-pocket costs by forcing community clinics to pass on their 340B drug discounts. The rule requires federally qualified health centers to give their discounts to the uninsured, patients with high cost-sharing for insulin or Epi-Pens or a high unmet deductible.
It was originally slated to take effect Jan. 22, but HHS delayed it until Mar. 22. The Biden team could eventually withdraw the rule to prevent it from taking effect at all.”
One psychological truism that most people are missing -- when Obama was president, he was an obviously low-T guy whose wife was only attractive to a very small portion of the populace. Before Obama, Bush was president, also a very very low-T guy, and his wife was, well, to be honest, not attractive, not the sort of woman any self-respecting guy would want to be married to. Before Bush, Clinton was president, a high-T guy, but a buffoon who moderate high-T guys had no problem pushing around (and his wife was a harpy). For most Americans under the age of 50, the only president they ever knew who had ordinary levels of testosterone and who did not have a repulsive looking wife was Trump. Leaving aside all the moral issues (Trump was right on the abortion of black kids issue - he was against it, while Obamas was for it, Trump was right on the taking care of poor and middle-class Americans before taking care of the Bill Gateses and Bezoses of the world), the fact remains that, for most Americans under 50, there has been exactly one man who was not a girly man like Obama or Clinton or Bush and who was a president in their lifetimes.
I realize it is not that big of a deal ---- if the issue of "who is president" is a big issue in your life, you need to live life differently ---- but it is what it is. We can spare our selves an awful lot of angst if we just realize that politicians are losers, they have nothing to do with our ability to be good men or good women.
“However, the health centers said they already pass on those savings and this rule is merely an administrative burden that paints them as entities that price-gouge patients. It’s not clear how many facilities would have to follow the rule or face funding restrictions.”
Inga So you are saying the bribe is only two months of price gouging, not unlimited price gouging. Poor people are still seriously out of pocket, and the gouging can still be extended once the hubbub dies down.
To be fair, I can almost guarantee you that Trump would know what I am saying, that Obama would know what I am saying, too. Not that either one of them would understand words of truth ---- but hey, I miss a lot, too. The important thing is this: every single person reading these words is just as important as Trump or Obama in the eyes of God. If I were in a good mood ..... I would tell you what I saw earlier today (hint: seagulls, edge of infinity, brave hearts, and the warmth of the sun in Arctic conditions .... well that is more than one hint).
Well, people like to talk about politics, so I am gonna ays this: Bush and Clinton are very very weird people. I have tried all my life to communicate with people like that, sometimes with success, sometimes without.
“Inga So you are saying the bribe is only two months of price gouging, not unlimited price gouging. Poor people are still seriously out of pocket, and the gouging can still be extended once the hubbub dies down.”
No. How about allowing the Biden administration to come up with a better plan. Trump’s rule was worthless.
“Community health centers, patient advocates and other groups pushed back on the rule when HHS proposed it last year, saying the changes were unnecessary and could do more harm than good. The National Association of Community Health Centers has said the rule reflects "a fundamental misunderstanding" of federally qualified health centers and the 340B program. And providers worried the regulation could reduce patients' access to care by cutting deeper into community health centers' thin operating margins.
Experts say the rule probably wouldn't make much of a dent in drug prices because it wouldn't affect most providers or patients. HHS admitted as much in its final rule, saying it would have "minimal economic impact."
"My wife needs to regularly renew her EpiPen, and a member of my extended family is diabetic. The wife is at risk from anaphylactic shock when stung by bees or wasps, my relative requires insulin. Wrong again!

Someone up thread said protester Ashli Babbitt was shot by one of the "good guys". Interesting description, a "good guy". If, as the commenter asserted, the shooter was a "good guy", the world would know his name, wouldn't they?
From the American Thinker: "Here are few questions a lot of Americans would like answered.
What is the name of the federal employee that pulled the trigger and shot an unarmed American civilian? What federal agency did the trigger-puller work for? Many allegations from both the left and right say the trigger-puller was US Secret Service, not Congressional Police. We just don’t know. Has there been a preliminary investigation by the United States Attorney for the District of Columbia (who serves as DA for the District), th Capitol Police, or the FBI? What are the results? Is the trigger-puller back on full time duty? Did he or she make a taped statement the day of the shooting? Who was in the room during the statement? Who has custody of the statement? Was there an autopsy performed on Ashli Babbitt? Who performed the autopsy? When will the finding be released? Was the crime scene sealed and the physical evidence catalogued? What agency processed the crime scene? FBI, Capitol Police, or DC police? Most witnesses indicated that the bullet was a “through and through” and exited her body. Has the bullet been recovered? What was the caliber of bullet? Has the spent shell casing been recovered? Has the trigger puller’s weapon been tested against the recovered bullet?"
Clinton i thought was an idiot who wasnt focused on any important thing i figured out later he was much worse setting up the subprime bubble, dismantling the military while al queda was on the rise even serving as their aircover in the balkans.
"Bush was president, also a very very low-T guy, and his wife was, well, to be honest, not attractive, not the sort of woman any self-respecting guy would want to be married to."
Clinton was born in the wrong body, he should have been that crazy wife/mother who had lots of energy and lots of kids and who was crazy but who still stayed within the limits ...... I seriously doubt he wanted to be that dude with the beard who everyone KNEW had so so much DESIRE for POWER ---- look at him now, for God's sake, feel some pity for the desicated old guy ---- by the way his mother was A GREAT AMERICAN
I trust all female athletes are applauding Biden for forcing them to compete against male-to-female transgenders athletes. This will fun to watch. No, not the sports, but the wailing and gnashing of teeth from the female athletes.
"The Biden executive order is far more ambitious. Any school that receives federal funding—including nearly every public high school—must either allow biological boys who self-identify as girls onto girls’ sports teams or face administrative action from the Education Department." (Via WSJ)
Owen (9:30pm): You ask the troll I refuse to name "Why do you want to wreck the conversation? What's bugging you, man?" I answered that on the previous thread (page 2, 5:07pm). Since it's important, I'll repeat it here:
"The only reason to keep posting large numbers of comments that you know are going to be deleted as soon as they are seen is to force the site-owner to go back to moderating all comments all the time. That would make a lot more work for her, while making her site far less interesting for everyone, including her. Moderation makes any back-and-forth pretty much impossible, thus killing most arguments and conversations.
Who would do something like that? Only a truly spiteful asshole who hates everyone else on this site for having what he could have had if only he hadn't been such a spiteful asshole. As I've noted before, sometimes on the Internet, everyone knows you're a dog."
I have had a harder week than you can imagine, I did not expect anything good from poor Bergoglio but even I, who have put up with a lot in this world, am feeling really troubled that poor Bergoglio forced poor old Benedict to get that shot, just a few years after the kid who was aborted to make that shot possible became a MERE PRODUCT - instead of becoming a beloved son or daughter - to make bucks for the vaccine industry. I mean, as low as I think they could have gone, and as humble my expectations are that my fellow humans act decently might be, that WAS A DIFFICULT BLOW.
Wait a second. At 10:15 Inga accurately summarizes the rule. Three minutes later she comments that the rule isn’t needed because health centers claim that they are already doing what the rule asks them to do. Uh huh. So why are they complaining? Oh! Their feelings are hurt. Too effing bad. They wouldn’t be complaining about the rule if they were already passing on the savings as they claim. Inga might be gullible; I’m not.
Ten minutes after that she posts again calling the rule “trash.” It will have minimal economic impact? Not to poor people! Inga and Mutaman might want to develop empathy for people not as well off as themselves.
“They wouldn’t be complaining about the rule if they were already passing on the savings as they claim. Inga might be gullible; I’m not.”
They are complaining about the rule because it may affect their funding and does NOT pass on savings to patients and providers. They ALREADY do that, WITHOUT the rule. Don’t you know how to read? Does your hysterical side overcome reason so easily?
“Experts say the rule probably wouldn't make much of a dent in drug prices because it wouldn't affect most providers or patients. HHS admitted as much in its final rule, saying it would have "minimal economic impact."
Trump’s rule wouldn’t have gone into effect until March 22. It is a worthless rule. It won’t save anyone any significant amount of money. Biden has until then to come up with a better way to lower the cost of insulin and epi pens.
“Experts say the rule probably wouldn't make much of a dent in drug prices because it wouldn't affect most providers or patients. HHS admitted as much in its final rule, saying it would have "minimal economic impact."

“Except for poor people, which is the demographic it was supposed to benefit.”
Do you seriously think Biden would raise the prices on Insulin and Epi pens? You don’t think his administration knows doing so would be to shoot itself in the foot? Wait until March 22 and see what Biden administration comes up with. If it raises prices or doesn’t lower them, then I’ll agree it’s time to get angry and hold them accountable.
Greenwald is killing it again. It's amazing there are 30,000 journalists commenting on America and exactly one is telling the truth.
In response to Krugman's typical stupidity:
Paul Krugman @paulkrugman · Jan 21 So, what happened to the insurrection? Maybe I'm jinxing it, but the wave of violence many expected didn't materialize before or on Inauguration Day; there were hardly any demonstrators. Where did all the rage go? 1/
Greenwald points out what we all know but everyone knows but pretends is not true:
Glenn Greenwald @ggreenwald · Jan 21 Oh gosh, I hope this doesn't mean the magnitude of the threat has been wildly exaggerated for political gain, media excitement and ratings, censorship orgies, and laying the foundation for a new fear-driven Domestic War on Terror to control politics and information.
It's interesting to compare this to Will Wilkinson. Krugman and cancel culture are responding to a fake reality. Today we're exaggerating violence because it serves the Dems' political preferences, while the previous year we minimized violence for the same reason. Cancel culture caught Will because he didn't transition from one to the other at exactly the right time. If he had made a similar joke pre-Jan 6th when the Dems transitioned to pretending to oppose violence he would have been fine. But today we're pretending there's a real danger of violent insurrection so jokes are unacceptable.

...eliminate high paying Union jobs? ...start a war in Syria? ...raise the cost of energy and increase our dependency on Russian and other foreign oil? ...allow China to have at least partial control of our power grid? ...allow Antifa free shopping and arson rights in our cities and at the same time target 75 million Americans and charge them as white supremacists? ...flood the labor market with 10s of millions of unskilled workers as millions of Americans are unemployed? ...proceed with a politically motivated impeachment trial that is constitutionally meaningless? ...allow caravans of thousands of immigrants to flood our border in the midst of a pandemic and employment crisis? ...double the minimum wage while doing everything possible to flood the market with unskilled labor?
I would like to think that Biden wouldn't do any of those things, but I would be wrong.
Do you seriously think Biden would raise the prices on Insulin and Epi pens?
According to Kaiser, HHS delayed implementations of a last minute Trump order to pass on discounts to certain patients. That is not a raise in prices previously charged.
And speaking of "last minute" - Kaiser also reports that President Donald Trump granted pardons to several individuals convicted in huge Medicare swindles that prosecutors alleged often harmed or endangered elderly and infirm patients while fleecing taxpayers.
“These aren’t just technical financial crimes. These were major, major crimes,” said Louis Saccoccio, chief executive officer of the National Health Care Anti-Fraud Association, an advocacy group.
The list of some 200 Trump pardons or commutations, most issued as he vacated the White House this week, included at least seven doctors or health care entrepreneurs who ran discredited health care enterprises, from nursing homes to pain clinics. One is a former doctor and California hospital owner embroiled in a massive workers’ compensation kickback scheme that prosecutors alleged prompted more than 14,000 dubious spinal surgeries. Another was in prison after prosecutors accused him of ripping off more than $1 billion from Medicare and Medicaid through nursing homes and other senior care facilities, among the largest frauds in U.S. history.
So these lawbreakers likely had illicit financial assets that permitted paying high prices to you-know-who for the pardons.
“Do you seriously think Biden would raise the prices on Insulin and Epi pens? You don’t think his administration knows doing so would be to shoot itself in the foot? Wait until March 22 and see what Biden administration comes up with. If it raises prices or doesn’t lower them, then I’ll agree it’s time to get angry and hold them accountable”.
Your idiotic and clumsy wording not with standing, of course “he” would. What an either mendacious or utterly stupid observation.
@Mutaman said... Greenwald: "Trump left the White house about as weak, cucked and submissive as its possible for a grown adult to scamper away."
Actually he hasn't "scampered." He moved to Mar-A-Lago just to kickoff the lawsuit by Palm Beach neighbors to boot him back out; then the impeachment trial starts on Feb 9; the House will get his income tax returns; NY State has like 67 lawsuits ready; Betty Jean's outfit with Trump DNA and on and on. His best move is overseas where he cannot be returned for trial - except that will get whatever remains of his assets impounded.
If any of that happens, it will be instructive for future Presidents. Once Caesar realized he could not safely lay aside his Imperium, he crossed the Rubicon.
“The good guys” didn’t shoot anybody. You know they’re not “The good guys” because they ain’t gonna give the name up. What a horrifying thing. So then some piece of shit calls the government agent (probably) murdered a (female!) Air Force veteran “The good guys”. From the supporters of a four year campaign of murder and violence against American citizens. Fuck you, fuck anybody that doesn’t think people like that DESERVE it. That they’ve EARNED it.
Selected. Not elected. Not my president. Resist. War motherfuckers.
I can assume that the righties here will say Donald is secretly antifa and this is a false flag.
You guys never own up to what your people do. I can only assume this is the same here ... it will get deleted and you all then pretend it didn't happen (for not the first time, either).
"At the height of the standoff, a woman named Ashli Babbitt tried to vault through a window. The lieutenant, his weapon already extended, pulled the trigger once, killing her in a confrontation that was captured on video and widely viewed around the world.
At least three investigations into the security response on Jan. 6 are underway, and officials have not provided the full details of Ms. Babbitt’s death.
But videos taken of the episode, legal documents and witness accounts point to a dire set of circumstances and an officer left to confront a mob. The officer, a lieutenant who has not been publicly named, has been placed on administrative leave while his actions are reviewed by federal authorities."
You guys never own up to what your people do. I can only assume this is the same here ... it will get deleted and you all then pretend it didn't happen (for not the first time, either).
Over on another thread someone gave it six months before the Donald Trump “miss me yet?” signs appear. Hell, it’s only been four days and a lot of people miss Trump already. Especially the roughly 11,000 union members who are losing their jobs due to Keystone’s being canceled. That’s canceled despite the union’s endorsement of Biden — there was a time when unions received something in return for their endorsements.
Then good ol’ Mayor Pete Buttigieg pours a little salt in the wound by telling the workers they should go get other jobs. Like what, Pete? Barn painting? Maybe Warren Buffett’s railroad, the Burlington Northern-Santa Fe, will be hiring? Without the pipeline, oil is shipped in railroad tank cars. I wonder how much ol’ Warren contributed to Joe’s campaign? So 11,000 union rank and file out of work in order to stuff money into the pockets of one of the richest men in the world. Behold the New Democrat Party!
Ashlii Babbit's death shows the lie in most of the BLM police shooting outrages over the summer. Compare her death, and the political response to it, to Jacob Blake's shooting. One of those two shootings resulted not only in violent protests, but in the now-President and Vice President visiting and quoting the family of the person who was shot.
You don’t think his administration knows doing so would be to shoot itself in the foot
To what result? Like you, the media is there to lie and coverup. Joes relatives are selling influence to the tune of $100's of millions a year, and all that information is blacked out. Try to point out the money laundering the Bidens are doing and the Tech monopoly will freeze your account. Of course the nations media is following suit. The media does promote lies to provide cover and hide the truth Ever heard about 150 law proofs that say the constitution allows bills of attainders? That story is just like that group of intel retirees that signed a letter saying the Hunter lap top story was just planted Russia disinformation.
I sense a pattern.
Oh, and I know Presidents order to help the poorest among us save some money on life saving medication is a very effective plan. Because the media ignored it. Knowing if more people knew about it, President Trump would be doing what Dems say they want, but always help big pharma at the expense of the poor.
Let's see about New York... I hear they're setting trends https://noqreport.com/2021/01/24/nyc-out-of-control-12-people-beat-man-strip-him-naked-steal-everything-in-broad-daylight-on-major-intersection/
Ken B said... "Inga I tell Big Mike he posts emotionally, impulsively, without reflection. He calls me a liar. Then, like a good bigot, he makes some refer to my national origin." Yeah. About that. At first the goose thing was funny. Now it's getting out of hand. You can take most of them back now. I got Newfie jokes too. The only public building in Canada where the solar panels face north.
Ben, I think what so-called 'post-modernism' did deserves a seperate debate - I would suggest a very crude reading of Nietzsche and those he influenced might be a starting point, as far as aetiology is concerned.
But what Cox and his fellow 'scientimists'(!) seem to illustrate is the self-ignorance of a smug, yet beneath it all, extremely insecure class. That may seem paradoxical but it is a well known truth, once illustrated by Freud, that the greater the insecurity, the greater the ego.
Btw, and not to spoil the broth, your 'abolition' of poverty sounds a little bit like 'abolition of property' which, some might say, went down the pan along with Prouhdon and his poverty of philosophy, as well as all the other Eutopianisms, left and right! No?
First of all, no one understands economics. What has happened is very clear: 1) The western world (Europe, in particular!) nationalised the recession 2)To de-nationalise or privatise this recession is going to be very painful. To unemploy capital. 3)We know, by definition, that if we had allowed the banks, the world, to collapse we would be in a better position now. 4) Capital is about the rate of profit. There are two elements to that. First, raw cost. Ie what you must buy. And second how much it costs to employ people. The former we cannot control but the latter we can or should be able to. The reason, in the East, they are doing so well is because the labour costs are so low. Politically we can not be there so we compete on value added goods. But they have stolen our patents and can produce them much better than we. Therefore, we must compete in the same labour market. Hence . For the reasons for this recession are numerous. But, strangely enough, economics is very simple. If you can have an economy that raises the rate of profit, then you can have an economy. And how do you do that? Think.
It's quite clear what has happened and what is happening. For ten, fifteen years you imposed, via the ECB, a ruinous, zero credit, negative credit, massively inflationary regime on States that, by definition, could not afford it. Hence, they bought your uncompetitive, over-expensive goods. And, of course, no one else could do so, could afford to. But, of course, this merely bankrupted the aforesaid states. But until the 'financial' crises of 2007/8, this was hidden - because 'money was free' and they thought you would always pay, some time or other, the very late but due bill. They forgot that Germany never pays, nevermind acknowledges a debt. So this 'recession' came along, whose historical antecedents I will not go into. But what did all Western states do? They 'Nationalised' this 'recession', they dumped on the taxpayer the burden and cost of a massive market failure. The Southern States of the EU merely followed everyone's lead, here. You might blame Greenspan, you might blame Gordon Brown, it was a general disease. And, strangely enough, irony of ironies, no one - not the taxpayer, not the bond market, not even mortgaging our children, could pay for this 'nationalization' So let's 'privatise' the 'nationalised' 'recession'! But how impossible! By imposing on Greece, Italy, Spain, Portugal zero or negative interest rates via the ECB, by imposing upon them German, uncompetitive goods, it was you who incurred the debt and by impoverishing the rest of Europe, made yourselves temporarily rich. But where, pray, will you be, when no one is left to pay for your goods? Even you heavy machinery is already reversed engineered by the Chines. So I say pay back the debt, pay what you owe, and leave off your attempted putsches in Greece and southern Europe. Pay up.
This probably is more to do with your ‘uncertainty monster’ and how scientists handle this rather than conduct and trust. But, in so far as misplaced certainty tends to produce misplaced expectations and, therefore, a misreading of product, by scientists, as well as lay people, I think it has some relevance. Anyway, it’s something that has preoccupied me over the last couple of days (I always like to see the best in people and would rather attribute folly where others might see malice!):
I tend think of uncertainty and, indeed, certainty, from a philosophical, psychological and genealogical point of view. An analogy: mathematicians, and, by extension, physicists, love perfect circles and tend to see them everywhere but, of course, there are no such things – just as there are no ‘atoms’, no ‘particles’, no ‘things’ – these being necessary and useful shorthand for what is, in a sense, over determined, convenient fictions, a semiotics which, in itself, has nothing to do with reality – they are merely idealised concepts of which nature is indifferent. Similarly, assuming – as I do – that the greenhouse affect is a well grounded theorem, it is thus, to speak in metaphor and not in metaphor, in ‘the laboratory’ – but, in the real world, where we encounter the uncountable variables of ‘stochasticism’, the ‘certainty’ of this physics can mean very little. Indeed, with ‘chaos theory’ even causation can break down. It is, however, natural that scientists, and, much more so, lay people can not resist the tendency to transfer a certainty of theory, of the laboratory, on to this intolerable disorder – they fight the ‘uncertainty monster’ by attempting to hoop perfect circles around it’s neck. But it is just that, an illegitimate transfer, a projection or, at best, a useful illusion.
So when a scientist or a lay person says, clumsily enough, ‘the science is in’, they are merely confusing ideation with reality, projecting on to the world the comforting certainties they find at their desks and in their laboratories, because they can’t help wishing it were true. The alleged ‘patronising arrogance’ of certain of these actors is, however, based on their ultimate knowledge that it is not true. Stronger spirits, yours for instance, perhaps, can sustain these uncertainties!
Drahi Lubos, How do I put the hacek in? I know this is somewhat bye the bye, but I was trying to follow a link on the comment section of your yamal post and sort of failed. Why? Because I was using a microemulator platformed opera mini on my pc and it sometimes fails as far as javascript, web standards etc. Why? Because it's very safe but also most importantly very low on bandwidth. So, my comment: I admire SteveMs' reluctance to push his conclusions to an explicitness that is not necessarily completely warranted but I also understand your and others impatience with this.

“Today that idiot Biden froze Trump's order to cut the cost of these two life-saving medications.”
Stop being hysterical. It’s been frozen until March to further asses how to deal with the drug prices, because Trumps plan was NOT a fix, but band aid, a bad plan. You people need to get a grip. My brother uses insulin, I keep an epi pen near me. So don’t accuse me of not caring about this issue.
Like two weeks to stop the spread, right,
“This freeze is part of the Biden administration’s large-scale effort announced this week that will scrutinize the Trump administration’s health policies.

One psychological truism that most people are missing --
when Obama was president, he was an obviously low-T guy whose wife was only attractive to a very small portion of the populace.
Most importantly...
“However, the health centers said they already pass on those savings and this rule is merely an administrative burden that paints them as entities that price-gouge patients. It’s not clear how many facilities would have to follow the rule or face funding restrictions.”
Inga
So you are saying the bribe is only two months of price gouging, not unlimited price gouging.
KNOWING and UNDERSTANDING are very different things.
It is no small thing to be a friend to a creature who never had a friend in this world.
You can KNOW that is true, or you can UNDERSTAND that is true.
“Inga
So you are saying the bribe is only two months of price gouging, not unlimited price gouging.
They are hiding something.

You ask the troll I refuse to name "Why do you want to wreck the conversation?
He really is trying to wreck this site.
Inga

I don’t mean Drago, who is trying to destroy America.

Trump’s rule wouldn’t have gone into effect until March 22. It is a worthless rule. It won’t save anyone any significant amount of money. Biden has until then to come up with a better way to lower the cost of insulin and epi pens.

Oh gosh, I hope this doesn't mean the magnitude of the threat has been wildly exaggerated for political gain, media excitement and ratings, censorship orgies, and laying the foundation for a new fear-driven Domestic War on Terror to control politics and information.

Actually he hasn't "scampered." He moved to Mar-A-Lago just to kickoff the lawsuit by Palm Beach neighbors to boot him back out; then the impeachment trial starts on Feb 9; the House will get his income tax returns; NY State has like 67 lawsuits ready; Betty Jean's outfit with Trump DNA and on and on. His best move is overseas where he cannot be returned for trial - except that will get whatever remains of his assets impounded.

Keep minimizing your open threat, Donald.
I can assume that the righties here will say Donald is secretly antifa and this is a false flag.
You guys never own up to what your people do. I can only assume this is the same here ... it will get deleted and you all then pretend it didn't happen (for not the first time, either).
This is not enough but some progress. From the overnight NYT:
Ashli Babbit
Donald, your living in dreamland. That's nice.
You guys never own up to what your people do. I can only assume this is the same here ... it will get deleted and you all then pretend it didn't happen (for not the first time, either).
Lol.
I agree with what Rt41Rebel commented at 1:26.
Do you seriously think Biden would raise the prices on Insulin and Epi pens?
He's going to seriously raise the price of oil and gas. So sure, why not another thing people need? If it's for the greater good!
The media does promote lies to provide cover and hide the truth
Ever heard about 150 law proofs that say the constitution allows bills of attainders? That story is just like that group of intel retirees that signed a letter saying the Hunter lap top story was just planted Russia disinformation.
I sense a pattern.
Oh, and I know Presidents order to help the poorest among us save some money on life saving medication is a very effective plan. Because the media ignored it. Knowing if more people knew about it, President Trump would be doing what Dems say they want, but always help big pharma at the expense of the poor.
Bring back the single bar - cmon - you'd go there, you'd go home and you'd sit on your own!

Let's see about New York... I hear they're setting trends

Yeah. About that. At first the goose thing was funny. Now it's getting out of hand. You can take most of them back now. I got Newfie jokes too. The only public building in Canada where the solar panels face north.
As of this morning, Larry King is still doing infomercials.

Taiwan will wire up all their factories for demolition and China will get a low IRR on their investment in rapacious conquest.

You can have my Newfie jokes when you pry them from my cold, dead hands you hoser.
That’s canceled despite the union’s endorsement of Biden — there was a time when unions received something in return for their endorsements.
My son is a member of the firefighters' union. He said the only members who voted for Biden were the four officers who rigged the endorsement.
Man ! This thread deteriorated after I left last night.
Chuck was bad enough. Then Inga and her echo Mutatroll took over.
The blog is safe, Dr.Karen K is on the job!
"Tried to vault through a window"? On what planet did this occur?
Words mean things- and there is no video anywhere that shows a "vault".
Michael, the trolls are taking over the comment sections and I guess their aim is to shut it down by driving everyone else away.
IDK, Gospace, I hear that those DTs receive special vaulting training in camps that Trump set up at all his resorts.
We got lucky this time.

2011 -
Ben, I think what so-called 'post-modernism' did deserves a seperate debate - I would suggest a very crude reading of Nietzsche and those he influenced might be a starting point, as far as aetiology is concerned.
No?
'eatiology' the wrong word.
First of all, no one understands economics. What has happened is very clear:
1) The western world (Europe, in particular!) nationalised the recession
2)To de-nationalise or privatise this recession is going to be very painful.
Think.
Dear Ambassador,
It's quite clear what has happened and what is happening.
Pay up.
You selfish bonds that can unberdon this night
I already have all your Newfie jokes and a fair number of your geese as well.
Dear Dr Curry,
This probably is more to do with your ‘uncertainty monster’ and how scientists handle this rather than conduct and trust.
A half hip away from Hollywood.
Sorry
Drahi Lubos, How do I put the hacek in? I know this is somewhat bye the bye, but I was trying to follow a link on the comment section of your yamal post and sort of failed. Why? Because I was using a microemulator platformed opera mini on my pc and it sometimes fails as far as javascript, web standards etc. Why? Because it's very safe but also most importantly very low on bandwidth.
So, my comment: I admire SteveMs' reluctance to push his conclusions to an explicitness that is not necessarily completely warranted but I also understand your and others impatience with this. All one can say is that it produces results - what results! Mr Berlins' tortoise and hare ( is that right or have I nezapominil my history? ). I have followed this tortuous but educating process for more I think than 4 years and my God has it worked. So please don't be to hard on steve.
By the way, I very much enjoy, your blog ( I'm told by my astro-physics brother the bits I don't understand are cogent ) and, as you might note, there's more than a little krasna Cezch nostalgia involved. Naschle and keep it going,
Yours Lewis Deane.
PS I can't remember is naschle too familiar - if so, please advise? And you were recommending browsers in the thread I was following - why not opera? Apparently it is the fastest
Your small hands, waving like a 'bye bye'
Your mothers hands and, a if, you wak the guy
Thinking 'This aint nothing' - what if it is?
Killing someone is like a joke?
You feel hot and you feel cold
Don't worry - I would never hurt anyone - I just imagine.
Lewis, we're going to need you to do more imagining on your own blog and less imagining here. Okay?
The incidence, when you were not happy,
A smiling that sort of saw everyone
Like the accidence on the road
And you stopped your car, opened the door,
Looked and drove on.
Meade ok - I'll try.

I intuitively 'understand' your wife, Meade, I think, like all nutters online - but I don't - I'm instinctively grasping out in this very dark time. I'm trying to be rational - but that's difficult. I claim to 'intuition' but we all do that. All I'm saying is that her 'mind' seems close to mine - that askance which says what is this, let us see it, let us understand. Irony is over for the dullards but wasn't that always the case? A kind of misstep in which you're force to dance. Don't be jealous or petty - I'm 2000 miles away and, anyway, my teeth would never allow me through any port. I love good people, intelligent people and I get over-enthusiastic thinking of them - because they are so few! God bless.

The minimal that is required is to love.
But only one without love could make such a statement,
Be conscious of such a requirement. Innocent of heart
But dead. I am Lazarus come back to tell you all
Or Jonah, spewed upon a beach, refusing still
Those words that came from God. Or being
In the belly of the whale, drumming his indigestion,
With the oil cans, the plastic bags, the half eaten fish,
The etc detritus of being human, I, inhuman,
Wallow in this strange, submarine defeat.
I like it down here. Hows it up there?
