"Remember, from the Democratic primary onward, party leaders warned against running on Medicare-for-all, a Green New Deal and other progressive ideas...."

"Instead, Democrats went small, focusing on saving the Affordable Care Act and providing a check on President Trump. But after the party lost House seats and failed to retake the Senate, the knives are out for the left anyway.... It’s understandable that congressional Democratic leaders want to blame something other than their own candidate recruitment process.... [I]t is simply false to claim that standing up proudly for policies such as Medicare-for-all and a Green New Deal hasn’t worked, when the truth is it hasn’t been tried. For decades, congressional Democrats have run every cycle with a moderate message engineered by moderate, high-priced consultants. When this plan succeeds, the party establishment trumpets their wisdom. Yet when it more frequently fails, the leadership and moderates blame the progressives they rejected the entire campaign."

Bull shit. The only thing the campaigned on is TRUMP HATE. TRUMP HATE...TRUMP HATE. TRUMP DIVISION THAT THEY CAUSED. So sick and tired of the lies the media is now spewing and the supposed calls for unity from the people who called us Nazi's and Racist for the last 5 years. They can shove that unity up their ass, and we will never call a corrupt Chinese traitor our President. Impeach him now for what they impeached Trump for.....Bidens corruption.

The Democrats do seem to run as closer to moderate. But President Obama had far more left leaning policies than he campaigned on. It didn't turn out well for him at his first midterm. I wonder if they've tried something more like going the direction President Clinton went when he was left with divided government. I think that turned out particularly well for the Democrats. Maybe for everyone.

Isn’t that why we have 50 laboratories of democracy—to try out radical (I don’t mean that pejoratively) proposals to see if they work? Democrats always seem to want to go national or go home.

This is one area that I think history will be kind to Trump. I think he really did fight his agencies to escalate the approval process. Developing a vaccine for a pandemic in a matter of months is a historic achievement.

Wendy is correct that being anti-Trump, and anti Bad Racist People in general was the message, which is very usual for Democrats, back at least as far as Truman calling Dewey a fascist. Insofar as they had policy messages at all, they did hit the more moderate views harder, I grant, which is also what they always do. We heard from AOC because she won't shut up, but the rest of The Squad, and Sheila Jackson Lee, Kirsten Gillibrand, and the rest were low-key. They didn't have to say anything. The presence of Kamala Harris, most liberal member of the Senate, bore silent testimony to what the ideological mix was going to be like.

Democrats have been disgraceful for years. But over the past 4 years, they've jumped outside of reality to new heights of the bizarre and disgracful. They worked with corrupt FBI and CIA officials to create a false Russia Collusion case to oust Pres. Trump early on. Using leaks to favored press, the Dems appeared daily on TV accusing the President of this fictional story. It went on for years- while the President was trying to get things done, they kept things shut down and instead held ridiculous hearings, shut out any outside opinions and created a national 'crisis' when putting Bob Mueller's corrupt team in the spotlight. That ended up not working, so they proceeded onto a bullshit Impeachment game. Again- all for show, but it did it's thing: It worsened the mood in the country and against this President. Then came the Kavanaugh hearings in which the entire nation finally got to see the depravity of this entire party (in case they had missed it in the previous two years). Craziness abounded, harassing and trying to absolutely destroy Justice Kavanaugh's life. Again- it did not work. Even with the help of ALL of the major media, none of these things above helped anyone. Pres. Trump kept on working. The country tried, but the mood around the country got even worse.

Then Covid started. Trump worked through the mechanics of getting masks, PPEs, floating hospitals, shutting down travel incoming from various places. He cut through the normal bureaucratic BS to speed up research on a vaccine and got Fed contracts to scores of Pharma companies to get to work. Do you think Biden could have coordinated any of this? Obama? Please- they couldn't even put together an ACA website. And the Dems? They cheered on the Wuhan virus. They made Dr. Fauci a God. Shouted 'Science!" as if to scare off the virus. This was their play. But wait- there was more. A chance to grind our stunning economy to a halt. And Democrat Governors and Mayors took this shot closing down their own states and demanding the entire country did too. We did, nationally, for a few weeks. Then a few brave Governors decided to open up a bit- carefully. Because, either you get busy living or get busy dying. And those brave Southern Governors were (and still are) accused of not knowing what they were doing- even though we're doing just fine- thank you. Meanwhile, Gov. Cuomo up in New York got his own nightly TV show and wrote a book on how he did it. What did he do? Well, he led the killing of more people than any other state. And- the country saw all of this. This was the good times for the Dems. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Without Wuhan, there would be no Biden. No Harris. No Dems. But 2020 was not done.

Then came George Floyd and..."Let the Riots Begin". Many things can be said about race or justice. But this was a play the Democrats got behind in a big way. Our country burned. The nation watched as the cities burned, businesses looted and destroyed, entire blocks of major cities- gone. They won't come back. People lose their livelihoods, businesses, cities, and in many cases, their lives. And the Democrats sponsored the entire thing. We watched as the Dems said nothing. As they called it peaceful protests. And their media masters showed them the way. Meanwhile, the country watched, got more depressed, angry, and resentful. And more and more of them saw that Trump- far from being the horrible Nazi man looking to destroy the country, may have been the only thing keeping the country from being destroyed by Democrats.

So now the Democrats have power again. And they're blaming sections of their own party? Hell...they all need to look in a mirror. They spent the last 4 years destroying this country- all of them. They showed how much they hate this country. Your surprised it was this close and probably took overnight shenanigans to win? I'm surprised any thinking adult could ever vote for a Democrat again in their life.

Real socialism has not been tried!

The best way to try socialism is to work with Trump to defeat Biden and run a true Socialist in 2024.

Otherwise, you're going to have Mitch McConnell blocking everything legislatively and Biden's incumbent hologram keeping real Progressives off the ballot until 2028.

And seriously, I don't think AOC can wait around that long.

No new wars in four years. The war machine and their profiteers are already drooling over the prospect of a Biden presidency. George W Bush rooting for Biden, Dick Cheney advising him now.

I think as the partisan passions cool, and historians pore over the actual documents, and not the newspaper stories as written, Trump will do fine in the History books. Unless these fascists get their way, get their boot on our necks, and only Party approved histories are allowed to be published from now into the future.

I really don't care to have a society that just protests like crazy when they don't like something, and then talks about how united the world feels when they win. A society that elevates the voices of the protesters over all other voices is an unpleasant society.

Yes, protest is a form of communication and peaceably assembling is a right, but protests need not be the most respected voices.
And peaceably assembling doesn't just mean protesting. It also means having Thanksgiving dinner with your family and going to work.

Yeah...everybody knows the Democrats wanted these things, even if they stopped talking about them for a couple months. All the denials did was show how dishonest they are. If they want to convince people they don't support the Green New Deal, then they need to stop promising to implement the Green New Deal when they think they're among friends.

Howard said...

I think everybody is missing the point. when I say everybody I don't mean you people cuz you people always miss the point I'm talking about the press and the prognosticators and even AOC herself.

The issue with Democrat voters has nothing to do with socialism. The split is between the power elite globalists who play both ends against the middle to affect the wants and needs of the davos billionaires. In that way AOC and the squad are actually closer to Trump and are in open rebellion against the DNC.

Social populism? We have yet to see a younger Democrat step up and try and fill Bernie Sanders shoes. I think the millennials thought Pete buttigieg was that person but then he just turned out to be a toady for the DNC Clinton version 2.0 as Jay farmer has pointed out.

It sounds like he's pushing Phyllis Schlafly's A Choice, Not an Echo argument, but from the left, the idea being that there is a majority out there that would vote for one's own party if only it became more ideological and demanded policies that were more ideologically driven and went further than mere centrism.

Many Republicans/conservatives still think that - and apparently many on the left may believe it as well. But it isn't true. The country is divided 50-50 and both parties are doing well at bringing in the votes of their devoted followers. The way to a win isn't by being more ideological, but by finding some discontent that those in the middle feel and appealing to those swing voters who aren't solidly in either camp.

There's also a hidden referendum going on that he doesn't notice. If you cared one way or the other about the Green New Deal or Medicare for all, you voted for the side that agreed with you. Not making that the centerpiece of the campaign, didn't mean that it wasn't an issue for people who cared enough to follow the news.

The left issues this cry every time a moderate Democratic stance doesn't suffice for them, which this near electoral rejection does not. The left's cry is always wrong. But given who makes the case, why be surprised? Of course they would say that.

But in fact even the Democratic base in the primaries failed to come through for the left. Many of the candidates DID embrace the GND and Medicare for All. None of them got anywhere with that. Kamala and others attacked Biden for being a racist, a jailor, a hack. She had to drop out before the first primary. The BASE, not the entire electorate, chose the old centrist nonetheless.

Of course the left did get a bone. Kamala as VP. And that may turn out to be more than a bone if Biden cannot last four years. But even she will have to disappoint the left if she assumes power with 2022 looming and already impotent in relation to Congress. As to that, I hope the left keeps up this pressure into January, as it will only further mobilize voters in Georgia as nothing else could at a time when Trump won't be on the ballot to distract them from putting a stop to the "transformative" fantasies of the Democratic Party left.

There is no time like the present to expose and defeat electoral fraud. We have a fighter as a leader, one who doesn't GAF what the dems and deep state say about him. If we don't fight it now, and win, they will repeat the fraud and cheating in the Georgia senate races, and in every other Senate race every 2 years.
We need to have it out now. It will only get worse, for both sides, if we delay.

Shorter article: Dems to America, whatever we're doing it's not being socialist!

The problem they have with governing is everything they put forth will be labeled "socialist" by the right.

There is nothing they can do about it now. Bernie called himself a Democratic Socialist but he wouldn't define it and neither would his party.

So Trump did it for him.

And the whole party is stuck with it.

I actually (and rarely) agree with Howard’s last two paragraphs at 7:30am. Billionaires live entirely different lives than the rest of us and have entirely different interests. That isn’t to say that I believe their money is our money, but they can well afford to support any leftie program that suits their larger interests, and, unlike the rest of us, the affect on them is merely a rounding error. I don’t begrudge Bezos a single dime of his money. In my view, he has earned it. But he’s playing a very different game politically than we are, Dems or Reps or Conservatives. He has far more in common with Soros than he does Freddie/Frederica Average person with kids and college to plan for.

Yup. It is a tool designed to funnel captive customers to the private insurance market, to further enrich the bloated health insurance companies. For those who were able to obtain health insurance due to the ACA who could not afford it previously, or were excluded, deemed "ineligible" due to preexisting conditions, ACA is better than nothing, so, a minor good. However, it is woefully short of what we should have, which a majority of other modern western states have, a tax-funded health service for all, "Medicare For All," to use a crude analogy.
