rhhardin said...: Metaphors have a tenor and a vehicle (I.A.Richards named these things that needed naming). A metaphor is a true metaphor (not dead, a transfer, like leg of a table) if it involves a pregnant use of the term for the vehicle.

They went silent without a ending, except maybe the loud sound of paper being rapped on a table (same as Scott Adams). I thought maybe my phone cut out, but replaying seems like Ann was cut off before finishing?
