"While riding her beloved horse she had words with her mother, nothing more than a lot of close relationships encounter.... The tragedy is that she had the world at her feet, horses and ponies were her passion and would have been throughout her life."

Wrote the assistant coroner, quoted in "Equestrian, 16, kills herself near stable after mom tells her to ride slower" (NY Post).

Rubbing shoulders with "equestrians."

Finally, AA gives us a topic with which we can all relate.

Equestrian, 16, kills herself near stable after mom tells her to ride slower

Brodie Morgan, who also was upset by the deaths of her grandfather and a close pal, took her life in March after her mother, Emma Webb, told her to slow down in the saddle, [] ...the teen, who had been featured in Horse and Hound magazine, told her mom it would be the last time she went riding on her pony, Archie.

What an absurdly misleading title. Clearly she had already decided to kill herself for whatever reasons. But, hey, let's add to her mother's pain by suggesting this is what did it!

yep! her mom gently chided her, AND SHE COMMITTED SUICIDE!
(oh, also..
was upset by the death of her grandfather,
was upset by the death of a close pal,
also, had a falling out with friends,
was galloping on what SHE SAID "would be the last time she went riding on her pony, Archie"

try to pay attention folks
she didn't kill herself because mommy yelled at her for riding too fast
she was riding fast because it "would be the last time she went riding"

clearly, she had Other issues (listed above)...
Plus, she was depressed over the fact that the news repeatedly referred to her HORSE as a "pony"

Maybe she was riding so fast that it caught her mother's attention because she already knew it would be her last ride?

Ugh, so sad.

gilbar said...

oh, AND...
she was depressed because;
NOT ONLY did her mom wear leopard print shirts and a black leather biker jacket...
Her mom Made HER wear a black leather biker jacket too!

Grandpa recently passed away, as well as a friend.
If the friend committed suicide, that likely had more to do with it than what mom said.
If the friend didn't commit suicide, it still had more to do with her suicide than what mom said.

What the fuck

tim maguire seems correct; she'd already made up her mind.

The article links to another one where a woman beat her boyfriend's 3-year-old son to death with a tire iron. It's difficult to read.

For once, I agree with Readering. That is a horrible headline, and terribly unfair to the mother.

Just a spoiled little rich brat. Hung herself? Tough nuts.

Mary Beth said...

It's sad she chose to end her life and both sad and selfish that she chose to have her last interaction with her mother be an argument.

A horse is a horse, of course of course
And no one should die for a horse of course
That is, of course, unless the horse is the famous Mr. Archie

The first thing that I thought of.

I guess her wealth removes any humanity from some of the commenters here.

"The inquest heard that Brodie, who also had a falling out with friends, sent out a message on Snapchat...."

Oh No! I thought Snapchat was one of the pure and good "social media" platforms - not like Facebook and Twitter.

It takes a calloused soul to express hate for a 16-year-old girl so in pain she strangles herself.

"Equestrian, 16, kills herself near stable after mom tells her to ride slower."

The article fails to establish a causal relationship suggested by the headline. How about: "Equestrian, 16, kills herself near stable after breakfast." Just as true and correct.

This is Althouse pointing out that one can't really rely on the NYPost for honest, straightforward headlines, either.

Wait . . . “Horse & Hound” is not something made up for “Notting Hill”?

Chuck, ride slower!

Do we usually ask assistant coroners for their opinion of the relative level of tragedy in a death?
