"We’ve got a president who actually suggested selling Puerto Rico. Believe it or not, it could have been worse. He once asked our national security officials if he could nuke hurricanes."

"I mean, at least he didn’t do that. A nuclear hurricane seems like it would have been bad. I mean, it would be funny if it wasn’t. Look. Some of the rhetoric you’re hearing down here in South Florida, it’s just made up. It’s just nonsense. Listening to the Republicans, you’d think Joe was more Communist than the Castros. Don’t fall for that garbage, don’t fall for that okey-doke. Joe Biden is not a socialist. He was a senator from Delaware. He was my vice president. I think folks would know if he’s a secret socialist by now.... [The President] likes to act tough and talk tough. He thinks scowling and being mean is tough, and being rude is tough. But when 60 Minutes and Lesley Stahl are too tough for you, you ain’t all that tough. You got to walk out of a 60 Minutes interview, then you’re never going to stand up to a dictator. If you’re spending all your time complaining about how mean reporters are to you, you’re not going to stand up to Putin.... With Joe and Kamala at the helm, you won’t have to think about them every single day. There might be a whole day where they don’t be on TV. There might be a whole day where they don’t tweet some craziness. You won’t have to argue about them every day. It won’t be so exhausting. Just having a normal president.... We’re not going to have a president that goes out of his way to insult anybody who he doesn’t think is nice enough to him. We won’t have a president who threatens people with jail for just criticizing him. That’s not normal behavior, Florida. You wouldn’t tolerate it from a co-worker. You wouldn’t tolerate it from a high-school principal. You won’t tolerate it from a coach. You wouldn’t tolerate it from a family member. Florida Man wouldn’t even do this stuff."

Said Barack Obama at his Florida rally speech yesterday. Transcript.

Selling Puerto Rico is a good idea, though I doubt there are going to be any takers.
The US should never have kept it in the first place.
Its always been a White Elephant. Keeping it was a historical error, a minor one all things considered, but still.

The trouble came with the subsequent immigration, development of a dependency relationship and political entanglements keeping it in place.

Obama is the most overrated “orator” in my or anyone’s lifetime. When he’s off the cuff, he’s a legitimately bad public speaker. And I find his voice and his halting speaking style and his ponderous “um’s” to be annoying.

I’ve heard that Trump is the poor man’s idea of what a rich man is. Well, I would say that Obama is the idiot man’s idea of what a great “orator” is.

We had a president, for two terms, that actually suggested there are 57 States and lied to us all when he said, "If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor.". And we hear about Joe and Kamala being at the helm again. Gonna need three reefs in the main for that pair to be able to control the ship.

You know how I know he's speaking propaganda? He uses the word "ain't". Just a regular guy that Barrack.

The latter half of his speech is ok. But the first half:

Where I come from it’s ok to ask wild questions when dealing with big issues like selling a piece of your nation or nuking a hurricane that will cause death and destruction. It also tells your team to open their minds and think outside the norm. Doesn’t mean you actually plan to do those things.

Obama is a really eloquent hack. The fact he’s so actively campaigning only at
The end of the election season for his former VP speaks so many volumes about how much of a hack he is.

I don't get the critique. I like people who think outside the box. He praised Hillary, who was America's 2nd choice to Trump (fer God's sake) as the most qualified presidential candidate in the history of the US.
Obama's entire career was directed at making him the president of the chattering class, and by God, that is what he was. He had no interest at all in being the president of the people who, due to economic insecurity, clung bitterly to their guns and to their religion.

Obama was and is the biggest liar in the history of the American presidency by a factor of ten. As many have pointed out, his was the most corrupt administration ever. He gave nukes to terrorist Iran and lied to Congress and the American people about the deal. He lied to the people about acts of war against our nation. He lied repeatedly about Obamacare, his trillion dollar stimulus, Benghazi, Iran, his IRS scandal, and many others.

And he directed a coup attempt against his successor executed by his corrupted FBI, CIA, NSA and DOJ. And note -- he allowed private contractors working for liberal groups to have unlimited to access NSA intercepts for years and years. If the lid ever comes off that scandal, America may come apart at the seams. In a country with any justice at all, he'd spend the rest of his life in prison.

Obama's never been through a hurricane. I have. 4 Cat 4-5s and 3-4 Cat 2-3s. That's just the ones where the eye passed over (or in Hugo, through) my house.

If I never go through another, I'll be a very happy camper. Using nukes on them sounds good to me, if they work.

I remember back in the 50's talk about blowing a hurricane apart with a nuke. So not a new idea. I seem to recall that if the explosion is powerful enough, the physics work.

Nukes can be designed clean or dirty. Clean is pretty much just blast with some fallout.

I don't understand why this is a crazy idea.

As for selling Puerto Rico, the problem would be finding a buyer. Ask me again in 10 days. We have a vote on whether we want statehood, Estado Libre Asociado (A/K/A Commonwealth, A/K/A same-old, same-old) or independence.

I expect a reprise of previous referenda/plebescites 45/48/7% give or take. No predictions about which is the 45 or the 48 but not independence.

My personal opinion is that ELA should not be on the ballot. After 70 years, we need to piss or get off the pot. Statehood or independence. ELA is not a legitimate political status. Not in the US.

And statehood means statehood. Identical to other states with no semi-separate "National identity" as the statehood politicians like to call it.

I don't know how I'll vote Tuesday. I may just write Donald Trump for governor and leave the rest of the ballots blank. With a big X to show that I voted but didn't vote FOR anyone. Maybe write "None of the above"

If you see the results from fajardo and it 10m votes for asshole A, 9m for asshole B, 1m for asshole C, and 1 for Donald Trump you will know how I finally decided.

I believe older ships sometimes had an emergency wheel in steerage, the ship's basement.

I believe that is why they called it "steerage". All US Navy ships have, or had, back in the day, emergency steering gear. It was locaded in the stern under the fantail.

There was generally a backup hydraulic system and, for when the ship really hit the fan, a manual system consisting of chainfalls hooked to a tiller on the rudder post.

My GQ station, for a while, was in emergency steering.

Ah, yes, it's good to hear from the president who was reeleected with a smaller number of votes than he was elected with. The president who won reelection while a majority of Americans polled thought we were on the wrong track. In whose favor NPR did a great segment featuring economist after economist saying, We've run all the models and 1.5% growth is probably this country can do no matter who's in charge.

The president to whom a Democratic predecessor - campaigning for his wife! - referred when he commented, during Year 8, "millions and millions and millions and millions of people look at that pretty picture of America he painted and they cannot find themselves in it to save their lives.” The man whose presidency made enough people willing to take a flyer on Trump.

I could spend an hour picking this apart. But I'll take this tack. Trump thinks outside the box with concepts. Democrats/Liberals/Progressive minds hear his words and take them verbatim. For instance:

>He said off the cuff in that conference, maybe we could use bleach or UV lights inside the body to kill the virus? Beside numerous science fiction stories about micro-sized ships and people going inside the body to do our work, we now live in the age of nanotechnology. Think outside the box. How can our knowledge of nano be used to 'disinfect' the body. I was right with him when he said that we might be able to disinfect our interior. How to do that? The left was, and is still making jokes about Trump telling the American people to drink bleach. That was not the concept.

>Using nukes to blow up hurricanes? Again- the concept is to break up the storm manually. How to do that? He's talking outside the box, but not literally. Conceptually. Again- it's been written about in science fiction. Not out of the realm of possibility. Maybe not with nukes, but some other way. Again- concepts. I'm sure the side that believes gender is whatever you feel it is from day to day can understand concepts.

And with regard to selling Puerto Rico. Trump is a developer by trade. Puerto Rico is a negative asset in many ways. It is a financial drain with no clear path to changing that. Making it a state would not decrease the financial drain. It would do the opposite. We're already facing bailing out the states of Illinois, New York, and California to the tune of BILLIONS of dollars. Selling PR is akin to selling off a bad asset. Again- thinking outside the box. It is worth considering.

Please. The intelligence agencies have been weaponized for decades. They've probably never not been weaponized. One recent pre-Obama instance was the revelation that the Bush administration was having the NSA spy on our phone calls and emails without warrants. Later, Ed Snowden released documents that showed the NSA's spying on Americans was continuing and was vaster than we had known. No doubt they are still spying on us.

Here's my commentary on it from my Facebook post, on which I posted a picture of the Time cover alongside a Chinese propaganda poster with a big red star on the ceiling over the soldier and workers:

This is the cover of the latest issue of Time magazine. Notice anything about it? Hint: Take a good look at her mask, right at the bridge of her nose. Just as the Devil gets all the good music, so the collectivists get all the good propaganda. Biden may say he’s not a socialist, but it’s apparent that some of his supporters are. Also, it should be noted that the majority of Floridians moved here from somewhere else, myself included. Many of those "Florida Man" or "Florida Woman" stories involve someone who moved here from Up North and brought their crazy with them.

Obama is such an asshole. And we know there will be pressure by the Dems to make PR a state. As well as DC. I think we should sell DC! Let's move the government into flyover states. And our news agencies should represent the whole of the country, not just NY and DC, as they do now. [I can dream, can't I?]

mockturtle said...

Face it: No one who, like Obama and Biden, has spent his entire life feeding at the government trough, should ever be elected. Let's only elect people who have spent at least part of their adult lives working in the private sector. The days of lifelong 'public servants' is over. Or should be over.

I ran and mapped fallout models in '84-5. If it detonates high enough in the air, fallout is negligible, but you won't dent the siloes. It might need to be pretty high over the ocean--we didn't look at that.

Pretty much. Wasn't Obama and Obamacare personally responsible for gutting the democratic party for at least 2 election cycles? That's some speechifying. The only thing Obama's "oratory" was ever good for was re-electing Obama but that was pretty much it. He had negative coat tales and was box office poison in the red states. Ask Senator McCaskill how that obamacare vote worked out for her?

Pulling Obama out of retirement is all you need to know about how well Biden's campaign is doing and what sort of erosion in black support has been happening. If joe is 10 points ahead nationally, why do they need Obama in battleground states?

I didn’t vote for Trump last time around and may not this time either, but this is the kind of discourse that makes me stay away from the Democrats.

(I wonder if one can subscribe to the games and not to the newspaper itself?) WaPo had some sort of deal more or less in that range (don't remember exactly) but I stopped paying even that at the last request for renewal, last year sometime, I believe: even four bucks a month (or whatever it was), if one doesn't read anything, is nonsense. Would be different if I still lived in DC, I suppose. Dreck, indeed.

The hell we are -- If the states go bankrupt, let the go bankrupt! The creditors can pick over the carcass of what's left.

On the other hand, maybe the US should bail them out, under the following very generous conditions:

1. Those states are dissolved, and refer to being federal territory.

2. No one who has held elective or appointed office in those states in the last 30 years shall ever hold any elective, pointed, or hired government position anywhere in the United States.

3. Anyone who has voted in California in the last 20 years, and is still a resident of California at the time of dissolution, shall receive a lifetime ban on voting in any federal, state, or local election anywhere in the United States.

Sell Puerto Rico? Nuke Hurricanes? Both ideas worthy of some thought. Probably take too large a nuke to blow out a hurricane, but be interesting to try if one could be found in an isolated location.

Ranking student in my pilot training class was a F-89 Navigator from some ANG unit in one on the Dakotas. A sometime mission for them was directing sonic booms to trigger avalanches in dangerous areas. Field artillery was also used.

On of the weapons carried by the F-89 was the MB-1 Genie (Missile-Bomb? Malistic Bissle); an unguided rocket with 2kt nuke for airburst near the intruder.

Here is a demo of the Genie: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1VZ7FQHTaR4

And... explosive charges are often used to blow out oil well fires.

Kirk, as a resident of California, I accept.

1) Also, all california state pension and retiree health care beneficiaries get moved to Social Security and Medicare, and the pensions confiscated by the Feds as part of the repayment of debt.

2) Territorial taxes are reduced accordingly.

3) All state employees are immediately fired. The new territorial government, administered by the Feds can hire bureaucrats, cops, etc after they re-interview for their jobs. All territory government jobs are "at will" - no civil service protection. Public schools are dissolved; vouchers are distributed to parents who can use them for charters and private and religious schools.

4) All City governments are dissolved; county administration (appointed by Feds) become the new local government agencies. Too-large counties (LA, San Diego, Alameda, Santa Clara County and others) are broken up accordingly. (the only livable places in California tend to be unincorporated).

5) All state regulations eliminated and defaulted to the appropriate federal regulation. I.e. no state/territory regulations beyond the federal clean air and water acts, worker comp, territory becomes right to work, etc.

6) The territory of California will also be divided over time into at least 2, if not 3 territories. These territories can then re-apply for statehood after a minimum of 20 years or merged into neighboring states (i.e. Finally get the state of Jefferson with the appropriate Oregon counties).

Joe Biden Inc. is a corrupt influence peddling operation that has gotten rich selling out America to its friends and enemies for 47 years. And the media has gone all in on censoring the truth about this grifting operation.
