Watching the helicopter in front of the White House, waiting to take Trump to Walter Reed Medical Center.

Lots of speculation from the TV talking heads. Will Trump walk to the helicopter? Will he speak? Why hasn't he communicated all day? How sick must he be? What's this experimental drug?

POS Chris Wallace is suggesting now that Trump brought it on himself, completely ignoring the fact that so many other public figures who promoted a bunker mentality have also contracted the virus.

Sounds like he's being treated with everything but hydroxychloroquine. Docs must be Democrats trying to kill him.

Who wants to hear someone speak with a cough? I doubt it would make anyone, including the president, reassured.

The right thing for him to do is to rest up and listen to his doctors.

I don’t believe he would go to the hospital if he weren’t pretty sick. He can get great medical care at home.

Just day one, and how many times have Trump surrogates been caught out underplaying or even lying about his condition? He already joins the statistics of those hospitalized with covid. Routine? Routine is a drive to the hospital, escorted by your doctor for a weekend check-up without appointment. Helicopter is serious.

So I had a family member that had COVID. He didn't have a bad case, but did have cognitive issues afterwards. That cannot happen to Trump or he'd lose the election for sure. My guess is they're going to monitor him to prevent or treat quickly those mini strokes should they occur.

The cognitive issues are not permanent by the way.

Matched by who they never say. Not by anyone in the Trump family, that's for sure. And Trumpists get freaked out when the word Karma gets used today!

A little recent history, courtesy of the Guardian. UK PM Boris Johnson, 55, announced on March 27 that he was suffering "mild" symptoms and would self-isolate while continuing to work. Another plus, we've learned a lot from fighting CV-19 over the last six months and are pretty good at keeping people alive and out of the ICU.

The media continues to dredge new lows. They were always shameless, but now they are acting like a pack of shameless hyenas. Can you even imagine a press that is more despicable than ours. At least in totalitarian countries they pump propaganda because they have to. Ours does it by choice.

They act like everyone who wore a mask avoided the damned virus, and everyone without one at anytime in the last 6 months died from it. Nobody who has been banging the mask drum hasn't broken their own rule numerous times. Even Fauci was caught in the stadium stands laughing and talking with his mask hanging off one ear surrounded by others, some of whom did have on masks. At least Trump wasn't a hypocrite about it. He walks the walk, because talk is for talkers.

rcocean said...

I fully expect Trump to be cracking jokes, just like Reagan did when he was shot. Some men are heroes in the Hospital and some aren't. I was reading a memoir on MacArthur, and the doctors treating him were full of admiration for his conduct during his last days. I know from people with personal knowledge of it, that a certain ex-US Senator in the 1970s, who'd been an "institution" was hated by the nurses who attended him, calling him whiney, demanding, rude, and sometimes hysterical. An idol with feet of clay.

President Trump says to hell with that, the real narrative is, Freedom is the symbol of America, make your choices, pay the price, suck it up and move on.
The Docs have made huge adjustments to treatments. Most everything done at the beginning was wrong. Early diagnosis is your best defense, not a mask. Caught early, a smorgasboard of treatments, intensive monitoring, constant adjustments to treatment plan. The next 48 hours will tell us alot. Enjoy the weekend and well know a lot more on Monday.

Then we were told she had simply tripped and been helped into the SUV and that anyone who said otherwise was a liar.

Then we were told she was just dehydrated and that anyone who said otherwise was a liar.

And not talking to people, or rather not talking to excess, is just responsible behavior.

I've seen this sentiment a lot today from MAGA supporters who think they are clever for pointing it out. Without for one hot second stopping to think that Trump has created a culture around him that is suspicious of taking Covid 19 seriously as a threat and especially is known to openly mock those who do wear masks. Trump almost assuredly got this bout of Covid 19 from someone in his orbit who didn't wear a mask in front of Trump in the fear looking "weak".

I know lots of folks here a 100% MAGA, in the tank. Cool. You do you. I get it.

I don't know how many folks who don't live in/around DC know this: The old Walter Reed Army Medical Center is no more. Trump has been taken to what USED TO BE the Navy Medical Center. As a cost-saving measure, the Army and Navy centers were combined in 2011, at the Navy location. For a couple of decades (mid 70's to mid 90's) I lived a mile or so from Navy Med, and often jogged through the grounds. Security was pretty lax, but I was stopped by a guard once, because there were demonstrations threatened to protest medical experiments on animals. In fact, the animal experiments were performed at a different facility, NIH perhaps? across Rockville Pike from Navy Med. Anyway, after I promised not to demostrate, I was allowed to jog to my heart's content. I often jogged past a helicopter pad, where I assume Trump's chopper landed.

I wish good health and a rapid recovery to the Trumps, without regard to politics; and to those who wish them ill (you know who you are) I wish hemerroids -- no, bleeding hemerroids.

Two thoughts. First, Trump is famously germaphobic. So he already socially distances and washes his hands frequently. And he still got the WuFlu. You know, one can follow all the guidelines except mask theatre and still do a fine job protecting themselves and others.

Second, that part italicized was written unironically. By someone gloating about Trump getting sick because of some assumed failure by him to avoid the virus. How empathetic. Now consider that viruses will spread until all its opportunities are sick, dead or no longer vulnerable. Short of herd immunity or a vaccine it will just keep going to less and less effect. I’m surprised how many people still don’t understand what they’re living through.

For that I blame public health authorities.

Re: rcocean:

For the 10,000th time. Masks keep YOU from spreading the virus. They don't keep you safe from OTHER PEOPLE!

Mostly true, but . . so what? That's precisely why everyone should mask up, not just people who are symptomatic. Both Trump and Hicks shifted from testing negative to testing positive over the course of a single day. Whoever infected Trump was almost certainly asymptomatic (or had very, very mild symptoms) at the time of infection, since everyone in the White House is apparently getting tested every day using rapid tests, and once you're symptomatic, you're likely shedding enough virus that the likelihood of a false positive is greatly reduced. Outside the White House, where people aren't getting tested every day, that logic applies with even greater force. Well, maybe not if you're in a community with near zero new infections -- the risk you or anyone else is unknowingly spreading would be extremely low in that case -- but that's very much the exceptions. All the large population centres in the US continue to identify high numbers of new cases every day.

Re: bagoh:

Yes, a lot of the people in politics and media who have been the most hysterical about masks also seem to treat the mask as a kind of magic totem, not just a tool to limit spread. There's a lot of photos where Trump's critics have been caught maskless. Even with a mask, gathering in close quarters and screaming or engaging in heavy physical exertion (e.g. at a protest) is going to present an elevated risk, because the masks aren't a perfect barrier. You're still at risk even if you and 90% of the people around you are masked up! It just reduces risk, doesn't eliminate it.

But for me, mask hypocrisy just reinforces how totally unprepared our politicians are for a pandemic, where framing, narratives, image, presentation -- all the media bullshit that politicians thrive on -- become secondary. Journalists live in that same half-imaginary space where words and images dominate, and they seem largely incapable of approaching the coronavirus seriously.

I thought nothing could beat the Obamaphiles but I was wrong. It's certainly the closest thing to a political cult of personality I've ever seen in my lifetime in the USA. And to me it's troubling. That is Banana Republic, "Sh*thole" country crap.
Yeah I know the MEDIA "loves" Obama. I know the MEDIA "loves" the novelty of Kamala.
But that doesn't excuse sitting President Trump's behavior (who himself has two networks largely in his pocket - Fox/OAN) in this Pandemic.

When I say I don't want Trump to be ill for this Covid 19 bout, I mean it. He's our President and it's important he serve that role as well as can be. But, I'm no fool. I don't love the man and he doesn't love me. But I respect like hell the job he is expected to be doing. That's the appropriate level of interaction for the two of us.

So when I say I hate hypocrisy and so I can see this situation dripping with hubris and karma - that doesn't mean I HATE the president. C'mon. Are you that brain-fogged? Are you that sworn in allegiance to the cult of Trump? (i.e. Q-Anon - yes, our president literally has a cult now. Thanks, 2020) It means I am a free-thinking, free-speech American who can see and call-out that if Trump is going to live by the sword of mockery, debasement, belittlement, of a global pandemic "that is just going to blow away". Then he and his supporters should recognize that he will face that sword eventually.
And, so Biden, K. Harris, effin Maddow sending condolences and get well soon tweets end up looking more gracious and generous than Trump ever would (to some).
As Trump would say, "Not a good look."

"So, the people who would take a bullet for the POTUS are upset at the possibility of getting the flu?"
While I can not verify that report. It would actually make sense. If you were Secret Service with Covid 19 you're not going to be allowed anywhere near the President or other agents meaning you will be sent home. Meaning there are less agents available. Also most of those agents have families they don't want to transmit Covid 19 to.
So I mean... its a deep state plot to make Trump look bad!

Drago you miss the point. Trump mocked Clinton's illness because he is a monster. His campaign mocks Biden, even when he himself is lying in a hospital bed, because he surrounds himself with monsters. We'll see how it all plays out in the coming weeks.

I am starting to wonder if Readering is Inga returned even crazier.

I love the illogic.
The president, in a tightly controlled environment and sequestered away from normal human contact, got sick. And that proves that the rest of us will avoid the virus by washing our hands and wearing a mask?

Has nobody thought this through? The conclusion is 100% away from reason. It is as if the conclusion were driven by politics.

RE: Trump mocking Hillary

Trump knew for a fact that Hillary did not have the flu. That was her fourth lie/excuse.

Being a fall down drunk means people lie and other people laugh at your expense.

The hate by the Left, calling for President Trump to die seconds after it was announced Trump contracted COVID - 19 will reelect him

"...They are the new Robespierres and they are headed for their own self-inflicted, metaphorical guillotines. In the aftermath of Trump’s contracting COVID-19, they are reelecting him..."

"unless he's eating pangolin-bat soup with his Big Macs. He got it from someone close to him that won't wear a mask for fear of looking weak in front of him."

So, I guess Go Black-face Northam of VA, big mask wearer, was eating pangolin-bat soup when he got it?

Or is it that crappy fabric masks are no magic talisman against a virus?

Think really hard about this, I'm sure you can come up with the right answer

Since you asked so nicely:
1. Trump MAKES FUN of reporter wearing mask: "You want to be politically correct"

You said he was mocking people around him, not reporters. Reporters should always be mocked. Especially the many ones who wear masks when they're on camera, and take them off when they're off camera, even though they're still in public?

2. Trump Has Long Denied Coronavirus Seriousness, Masks

Gee, you mean like Dr Fauci?

I thought nothing could beat the Obamaphiles but I was wrong. It's certainly the closest thing to a political cult of personality I've ever seen in my lifetime in the USA.

Bzzt. Wrong. There has never been greater love for less competence than Obama.

if Trump is going to live by the sword of mockery, debasement, belittlement

Trump attacks the enemies who attack him.

"Deplorables", "racists", "Nazis", etc is aimed at the American people who commit the crime of not supporting the Left. It is the Left that "lives by the sword of mockery, debasement, belittlement", it is Trump who is making them die by that sword.

Good
