I'm skeptical about this one. Sounds a bit more like people blowing off steam than seriously plotting to kidnap a governor of a state. Especially given the delay between the alleged 'plotting' and the police action to arrest now. If police found a credible plan back in July for someone to kidnap a governor but waited for three months to act to arrest, it sounds like the police didn't really think it was serious but some dopey 27 year old, politically ambitious, lawyer in the DA's office pushed the case and didn't realize how weird the 3 month delay looks to all normal people.
The story describes a lot of talking, but I am missing the evidence of an actual crime here. It isn't like they were arrested on their way to shoot up a police station or kidnap the governor. Really- is talking about a crime enough to send someone to jail? It isn't even inciting of a crime that I can tell. So way back in July a small group of irascible idiots suggest this at a meeting with an FBI informant present. Beyond that this story is pretty thin on details. Did this informant egg them on, entraping them? How likely were they to be able to actually pull something like this off? Was this just blowing off steam or was there an actual concrete plan that was realistic? And if this all happened back in July, why are we just hearing about this now... in October... mere weeks before the election?

I'm skeptical, too. First, what would be the point? A kidnap implies a ransom... what could they possibly get for releasing her besides life inside a federal prison? Second, if they were really angry at her, there were more practical alternatives. I think this was a bunch of idiots venting, not realizing they were in the presence of a federal undercover agent. I also have to wonder if the agent egged them on (as per one of the comments above). I'd give even odds that they aren't convicted of any of the current charges... wouldn't be surprised if someone pleads because they're scared and the federal prosecutor will load up the charges.
As with most of these plots, I'm skeptical about how much was encouraged by the informant.
That said, I totally disavow any plot of this nature, if real. If you disagree with Michigan's governor, use the courts (as was successfully done) or vote her out of office.

Honestly, it sounds like the plot of a comedy: “A group of inept militia kidnap an unpopular a state governor, only to discover that her obnoxious attitude drives them crazy. State officials conduct a half-hearted ‘search’, while secretly glad that she’s gone and fighting for control in the power vacuum. A local sheriff eventually begins to suspect the militia members and begins to investigate.”
It never got past the talking stage and the whole "plot" seems rather fuzzy and based on one informant's word. Basically, a couple of nuts and 2-3 others who just seem be fantasizing. The "plan" (based on the FBI affidavit) was to set off an explosion near the bridge of Whitmer's vacation home as a distraction, and then kidnap her and escape by boat.
Of course, they had no explosives, and no boat, and didn't have the Governor's schedule or any idea how many bodyguards, etc. she had. They had "surveilled" the house but had no idea if there were alarms or security systems. After they kidnapped her they were going to go to a "safe house" for a trial.
Simply absurd. They also discussed, damaging her house or damaging the Michagan State Police Hq building.

The FBI doesn't seem to have done much on their own. There was one member of the group who went to the FBI in April 2000 and then forwarded audio tapes and phone call tapes to them. He or she, also provided the FBI with descriptions of all their meetings. You wonder why the FBI waited till now, since the Affidavit says the activity stopped in mid September.
You have to wonder why Antifa and BLM which are injuring people and destroying property FOR REAL, aren't being infiltrated and monitored and arrested for conspiracy to commit crimes.
