It's the big debate night!

Do you think something big will happen tonight? Or just a typical debate?

Trump should.

I think we're going to see the final culmination of the bias train. Trump will, again, be asked to denounce white supremacism. Biden will not be asked about court packing or why his son has pictures of under aged girls on his laptop.

If Mr. Bobulinski attends the debate in person, Joe Biden is screwed.

Any attempt to deny the validity of the Hunter Biden emails, texts and videos will end with Trump inviting Bobulinski to verify in person the information he provided in a sworn deposition.

It SHOULD come out that Joe was selling us out to China. Period. How can anybody even defend this?? Joe belongs in prison with a lot of his family. I think the only reason he ran was to keep them out of prison. The Propaganda media blows, and NOBODY is ever going to trust them again. Leslie Stahl?? A JOKE. CBS has run so many fake stories about Russian collusion that they did NOT have verification for. She can suck eggs....her career went OUT with a bang...Bye bye Leslie....Bye bye Main Stream Media...Bye bye Joe Biden Bye bye Democrat party.

Maybe, it's too damn risky to let somebody say something bad and have to use "comment removed by administrator" a time or two....just this one time, under this one circumstance.

Scott Adams made a really good point today. Something that I had missed and the media certainly isn't going to draw our attention to.

Quote:

"How would you like to to be running against an incumbent president who had done so well in foreign affairs that it doesn't need to be part of the debate?"

"Think about that. Talk about unfreaking precedented."

"Trump did so well and this is not---. I don't think this is an exaggeration is it? You know listen to it. Let it settle in and then you tell me if I'm exaggerating. I don't think I am. Trump did so well in foreign affairs that it doesn't need to be part of the conversation!"

"I think that's what's happening right in front of us. This is like the most incredible endorsement of a sitting president I've ever seen. You don't need to talk about it."

"He took Isis from -- honestly it was one of the biggest things I worried about -- to nothing."

"He took the threat of China, which is still a big thing, and now I feel it's at least competently being handled in the right way. You know you don't know how things are going to turn out but it looks like it's being competently handled in the right way for the first
time."

"Look at the Middle East. I mean it's crazy. The Middle East has never looked this good. It's just crazy."

"Look at our trade deals that have been completed. You know the NAFTA replacement deal. Even the critics say, oh okay, I gotta admit that's better, better than NAFTA. Look at the South Korea trade deal, the Japan trade deal. I feel like, I feel like Trump ran the table on foreign affairs. There's just nothing left to talk about."

"The only thing left to talk about is why Biden is so bad at it."

Oh, my, these mediaswine really think they and these debates are so very important to the outcome of the election. Who or what will convince them otherwise? I've never seen such a self-important bunch of assholes in my life.

AA: Do you think something big will happen tonight?"

President Donald Trump plans to bring Hunter Biden's ex-business partner Tony Bobulinski to Thursday night's presidential debate with Joe Biden

"...Trump pulled a similar stunt in 2016 when he paraded three women who accused President Bill Clinton of varying degrees of sexual harassment and assault - Paula Jones, Kathleen Willey and Juanita Broaddrick - around before and after the debate and had them sit in the audience to face his rival, Democrat Hillary Clinton."

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8868849/Debate-day-Trump-Biden-head-Nashville-final-face-microphones-muted.html

Tony Bobulinski, a former Penn State wrestler, is a big guy. Trump likes to wrestle (see his 2007 encounter with Vince McMahon on Wrestlemania.

I could see Trump pointing him out to Joe Biden during the debate.

Depends on whether the info unfolding up to and including a few minutes ago will be ignored by Biden’s allies - the mainstream media - or be treated and investigated as if a Republican were in the hot seat. Biden is compromised and in no condition, physically or mentally, to serve as president.

Biden's lies at this point are epic. He is all but saying COVID is Trump's fault.
Early voting should be banned along with motor voting/same day registration. In person with polls open from 6am to midnight nationally with the first results announced at 10 am eastern the next day. The scandal of the Biden bribery/money laundering is barely coming out thanks to the in the tank MSM after tens of millions have already voted. And unlike the BS Russian hoax which is what Obama Administration in cahoots with the Clinton campaign actually did now we have the FBI admitting they are investigating money laundering and their are witnesses openly affirming this along with data that has been verified millions of votes have been cast and who knows how many would have changed their votes had they known?

Yancey Ward said...

Welker is going allin for Biden tonight, and it doesn't help him- that is the most amazing thing to me- the idea that normal people are not going to see that it is 2 vs 1 on that stage. The debate moderators have that mind-blindness where they really believe cheating in a debate helps their candidate. It doesn't- it makes the candidate look even weaker than he is, and that does Joe Biden no favors whatsoever.

CubanBob above is correct- the lies Biden is telling right now are just fucking epic in substance and scale. I doubt he has told a single truth during the entire debate to this point. Biden literally repeated Obama's "If you like your insurance/doctor....". How clueless is this guy?

Holy Smokes!!

I'm thinking Biden just broke the democrats.

Yancey Ward said...

And, yes, Biden had all the questions in advance, but that is nothing new, and it didn't help him anyway- he can't even get the numbers right using the notes his staff prepared. The transcript of this debate will be interesting reading because, other than the blatant lies, I can't figure out anything Biden has said on pretty much any topic- one word salad after another.

Yancey Ward said...

If Welker weren't constantly interrupting Trump, Biden would be dead in this debate. She is more or less propping up a corpse at this point, and this corpse could be the President this coming January. That is scary.

mandrewa said...

I'm puzzled by the debate format. (I must have missed the rules.)

Biden is asked questions and Biden is allowed to make statements and long statements at that. Trump is given an apparently shorter time and he's always interrupted by the moderator?!!

And every time the moderator interrupts Trump she gives the excuse that she has a lot more questions to ask?!! I.e. or in other words she doesn't want to hear what Trump has to say.

Yancey Ward said...

What the Hell was that "rolling around in a bed" bit about? Jeez Louise!

I'm Not Sure said...

"Biden's lies at this point are epic. He is all but saying COVID is Trump's fault."

Biden ad on tv just now says the shutdown for the virus is Trump's fault.

Yancey Ward said...

Mandrewa, that is exactly what she is doing- she is trying to cut every answer of Trump's off. Just an amazing display of unfairness. I can't figure out the reason, either- it hurts Biden, it doesn't really help him. This like watching a playground fight between two boys, and one of the boy's best friend sucker punches the other boy in the back of head. It is almost like these moderators never learned basic childhood lessons.

Tim, if you are interested in amusing yourself, go back and read the stuff Althouse Jr. wrote about Biden during the primary debates. You would think he was writing about two completely different people, and the hilarious thing is that Biden wasn't nearly as incoherent in those primary debates as he is in this one.

Yancey Ward said...

I don't know what the strategy is with the "America Bad" maneuver. Any political consultant should be able to tell you that is sure loser in a presidential contest. I can't even blame this on Biden's demented state- his own staff put out the tweet, I am almost certain, and I don't think he would have repeated it here without it being one of his talking points in his notes.

Yancey Ward said...

Whether you agree with him or not on incarcerating criminals, Trump gave a great answer to that question. Biden, on the other hand, lied about what he has said in the past- stuff that is on video, mind you, and seems to have completely forgotten what was in his own crime bill passed in the early 90s, or disavowed, or something- I will need the transcript to figure out that gobbledy gook.

Yancey Ward said...

Biden is basically disavowing his entire record in office tonight. Why should anyone vote for him?

mockturtle said...

It's reprehensible that the economy and foreign policy were not included in the questions. Of course, we know why.

Yancey Ward said...

I am curious what others thought- doesn't Biden seem a lot less energetic tonight than he did in the first debate or the townhall last week? Are the uppers not working any longer? Or is it the pressure of the laptop story wearing on him. I thought Trump looked a lot more subdued, too, early on, but boy the energy rocketed up around 15 minutes in.

This is the best I have ever seen Trump in a debate, and this is with Welker trying to kick in in the groin at every opportunity.

Hard to believe Trump crushed Biden on the race issue- and badly at that. I think, maybe, Biden's brain just cut out in that segment. I really need the transcript- almost nothing Biden said was decipherable except for the lies, and he told about 100 of them during the debate- and he seemed to have the lies on the notes he kept referring back to.

I thought Trump wiped the floor with Biden in the first debate, but others disagreed about the style he used. Trump apparently took that lesson to heart tonight- he has never looked that good and in command of pretty much everything in a debate the way he did tonight. Biden just looked lost after about the 30 minute mark, and it only deteriorated for him from there. I think, maybe, the debate commission fucked themselves with the debate changes- it forced Trump to temper his style into a more lethal version. Serves those fuckers right.

I will give Welker credit for one thing tonight- she gave Biden tough questions, too, and it showed in his inability to answer them without telling proveable lies to pretty much all of them. As a interrogator of Biden, she made Chris Wallace look like a dead guy. My only complaint about the questions, though, is the constant framing from a leftist point of view. It is always question begging from the debate moderators, but I thought Trump did a brilliant job of turning pretty much every such question around on Biden and Welker. I was very impressed with how he approached tonight. It seemed to me that Biden got significantly more talking time than Trump did, but it doesn't help Biden- once he gets about 20 seconds into saying something, he loses his train of thought and word salads, or word fruit cakes start up.

Yancey Ward said...

I was just quickly reading Stephen Green's live blog- I would recommend it- he covered pretty much every bit of the debate as I remembered it. I want to put this final comment of his here:

"Once again, I'll leave the "What it all means" wrap-ups to PJ writers who haven't been imbibing all night, but I would like to leave you with a final thought that isn't limited to what transpired tonight.

I don't always agree with Trump, just like I don't always agree with my wife or even any of my pretty-well-trained dogs. We're different people, and no one should expect to agree with anyone 100% of the time.

But this man, this president, has been under constant attack -- some would even say constantly fighting off coup attempts -- since before he was even sworn in.

Yet he came in tonight, measured and forceful, ready to fight once more.

That is a hell of a thing for anyone to endure, even without the responsibilities and stresses of being POTUS.

He's earned a great deal of respect for that, and with tonight's performance, he's earned even more.

I'd like to see four more years of that fighting spirit."

mockturtle said...

Joe could vehemently insist that he 'never took a penny' because his 10% was being held by his son. Deniability.

Skeptical Voter said...

Biden's 47 years of practice as a politician was showing tonight. Half the time when Trump was thrusting at them, Joe had a big smile on his face, a full set of pearly whites gleaming like it was a great day at the beach. Then there was the simpering smirk. A lot of the head looking down so you could see the plugs instead of the face, Squinching his eyers, shaking his head and sorrow as though he were saying, "Can you believe this guy?"

Well it wasn't a bad acting performance for a politician. But I'm not certain it played in Peoria.

Don’t blame Joe Biden. Blame Jim Clyburn. Clyburn had the job of stopping Bernie Sanders in the South Carolina primary, and he put his prestige and organization behind Crooked Joe. Now the entire Democrat party has to not only overcome a justifiable reputation for political violence in cities like Seattle, Portland, Madison, Minneapolis, Kenisha, and more, but by putting up back to back Presidential candidates who are massively corrupt, they are now the party of political corruption at an industrial scale.

I thought the moderator did a decent job tonight. You could see her visible relief and elation as the debate ended. Biden did well enough. If, IF, you believe his lies on various subjects, and not just the laptop. Lies, promises and obfuscation. A tried and true tactic. Good enough the media can run with it. Low info Dems will consider it a win. Trump obviously took a much calmer route tonight. He got the Biden corruption in although I think he should have gotten a "bought and paid for" jab in. I think he didn't do that great of a job making his points to low infos. One on one isn't Trump's forte. I don't think he did himself any harm.

I try to look at the debates through the eyes of a truly undecided voter, but I think there are very few who's minds were going to be changed tonight. Since Biden didn't wander off the stage and Trump didn't throw a wrestling move on him it looked like a wash to me. And I think that is all Trump needs to win the election. I'm happy.

Biden has always been so tawdry. Before he was a demented, shriveled old man, he had a bit of charm that made the tawdry go down easier, or at least a little less of the whole. Now it's just sad and tawdry and washed up. Trump looked like he feels sorry for him a few times tonight.

Owen said...

Yancey Ward @ 9:56 PM: I agree with your take. I think Trump avoided his biggest danger, which was to piss off women (suburban or otherwise) by being too angry. He kept his energy largely in check: it was visible (good) but not overpowering (bad). And he used it to fuel a series of pretty-good attacks on Biden's corruption, hypocrisy, inanition, and general cluelessness. He also defended himself reasonably well on "Why haven't you miraculously cured Chinese Lung Rot?" and "Why aren't we all incredibly rich and happy, you blowhard?" which was pretty much what Welker had to offer.

Biden was, as you say, word salad after the first 15-30 seconds of any given question. He fell back onto meaningless populist cartoon images (kitchen table, honest working folk, masks = basic decency, etc etc etc). He could not (and certainly did not want to) string his economic propositions together into a coherent whole, where $1T here and $1T there might someday add up to total smoking ruin. Biden? Adding up a grocery bill? AYFKM?

I think this was at worst a draw for Trump. He got in a few torpedoes under the waterline with his shots about Biden's corruption, and I would think that, over the next week, that stuff will start to take effect. Whether that's enough? God only knows.

daskol said...

Also lol @ Trump calling Biden "the big man." Trolling the lefties who'd like to ignore the whole story but can't resist the temptation to correct him. That was funniest line to me tonight, especially the way he repeated several times.

This is the Trump I remember from the 2016 debates. Floats like a butterfly, stings like a bee. operator continually had to intervene to save Biden, questions totally loaded in Biden's favor, but Trump used to his advantage,, made al his points (e.g., about Hunter/Burisma/China pay to play). The moderator's repeated rescues made Biden's lameness even more obvious. Trump's counterpunches all built to reinforce his main point, why politicos like Biden always promise and never deliver. If you are looking at the states with lots of swing voters, Biden majorly pissed off the Hispanic swing voters a couple months ago when he said his vice president would be black, no malarkey, and the Hispanics would just have to wait their turn .... and he majorly pissed off the African-American swing voters tonight when he said he was wrong, wrong wrong 10 and 20 years ago to support sending huge numbers of black men to jail for simple drug possession offenses (But, he said, condescendingly, NOW I WOULD SEND THEM TO TREATMENT, as if it makes a difference that he has just figured that out in his ninth decade on this earth) and then he said, when he was VP with Barack Obama, he WOULD HAVE LIKED TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT BUT HE COULD NOT because he had to deal with all that malarkey from a Republican Congress.

Do you really think that Biden is going to get anywhere near the numbers of Hispanic voters and African-American voters that the average Democrat presidential candidate gets?

I know I have a bias, but I challenge people to fact check on their own Biden's claims and what Trump said. In doing so myself, I have yet to find anything Biden said that was true, nor anything Trump said that was not. It may be me, and it may not be that total, but I'm positive that it was not close. Do your own work, and see for yourself.

It is impossible to argue this debate was fair. Trump was given far less time, and he was interrupted and talked over constantly, especially on key points he wanted to make. That almost never happened to Biden, if at all. As always, it was 2 on 1, which should show Americans who is capable and who is not, and who knows it.

Americans are seeing the incredible bias against Trump made big and obvious with these debates. Every moderator a Democrat with ties to opponents, and they act accordingly.

Less obvious is that all the questions are focussed on Democrat talking points. No talk of freedom, civil rights, the 1st Amendment, the 2nd, and little on Jobs, or law and order. The topics covered are all far down the list of those most important to voters.

How much can you talk about race before you are playing a game about race?

stephen cooper said...

Fun fact - if Trump does exactly as well against Biden among white voters outside of California as he did against Hilary among white voters outside of California, and picks up just 5 percent more votes from Hispanic and African-American voters who do not live in California, he will win in an even bigger electoral landslide than he did 4 years ago.

He can even lose a million or so white voters from his performance 4 years ago and still win in a landslide if he picks up that 5 percent.

Biden basically told Hispanics a couple months ago he would not even consider choosing a Hispanic vice president nominee, and tonight he told African-Americans that he supported, back in the day, incarcerating untold numbers of African-Americans (an others) for simple drug possession offenses, but now he knows better, and they should vote for him because now he knows better.

Worst debate performance ever.

Have your reports on my desk tomorrow morning and I will grade them over the weekend.

I think Trump has assured his re-election. Now he has less than two weeks to pull McSally, Collins, Ernst, Tillis, Perdu, Gardner, Lewis, James, and Graham across the line. Pelosi needs to lose her gavel and McConnell needs need a larger majority. Nothing less will cause the Dems to shed their penchants for political violence and graft.

@Yancey Ward, also from Stephen Green:

Corruption, ineptitude, senility... forget all of it.

Biden talked about American values and didn't once mention freedom or equality before the law.

That's all you need to know about Joe Biden.

I think Trump got in a good blow on fracking, but I wish he had asked Biden what he thought the price of gas should be.

Yancy at 9:59 quoting Stephen Green is a good wrap up of the Trump 1st term, and the debate. Also upthread (I think), an observation that is deafening in its silence. Something the President should say evertime he opens his mouth.

President Donald J Trump has so skillfully navigated the Nations Foreign Policy, that not a single enemy of President Trump can think of a single thing they are willing to debate against the President.
This is the opinion of the leftists. To the point the leftist are scared to bring it up in front of a National audience.

The "phasing out" of the oil industry, should get big play. Our Sen. Ernst needs ads on TV today, hanging that millstone on her challenger(who btw is running the same campaign as Biden, very few campaign events. Until two weeks ago, she had only been in 20+ counties, out of 99).I think there is old video of Obama declaring gas HAS to be $6-7 per gallon to price it out range of car owners, and limit car driving/ownership.(Personal mobility is something the makes the masses hard to manipulate)

Joe would have to answer in years.

When fossil fuels are banned, using gasoline would be a criminal offense.

Joe lost PA tonight

On a recent drive through rural PA, I observed WAY more yard signs for Biden than I did 4 years ago for Clinton. Factor of at least 5, maybe 10. All those Biden signs could belong to shy Hillary voters, but maybe not. Also, I was stunned on election night 2016 when the Philadelphia machine failed to produce as many votes as necessary to put Clinton over the top, and I will be stunned again if they fail to do it for local-boy Joe. I’m sure Joe hurt himself in PA last night, but I think it’s far from over.

Sorry, I misspelled Perdue and overlooked Loeffler.

Ann's son must have the sads today. Biden was Biden's own worst enemy last night.

My neighbor watched the whole thing and was so upset he couldn't sleep: He believes that Biden promised citizenship to all illegals within the first 100 days.

Zero carbon emissions by 2025? It's clear Biden isn't playing with a full deck.

That's interesting, because I have heard the reverse from others. Since I have not driven through PA recently, I am not in any position to challenge either you or them. We will find out soon enough.

Nah. Have you ever heard of the story of the emperor’s new clothes?

Biden promised citizenship to 11 million illegal aliens (11 million was his stated number) within his first 100 days

That won't be "all illegals", because plenty more will come to take their places getting paid "under the counter"

Daines of MT too? Chuckie Scheamer personally recruited popular Gov Bullock to run against Sen Daines. This could a big turnover at the top. Rep Gianforte is running for Gov, opposed by Gov Bullock’s LT Gov, a career politician, who has been on the public dole for almost as long as Biden has, but still seems to still be there, and promised in the past to raise taxes, because some people can afford it. The Dem running for Gianforte’s seat is being repeatedly tied to Nancy Palsi, as a San Francisco Democrat. She does seem to know how to shoot a shotgun better than Obama did though. It could be very good night for the Republicans. Bullock though does seem to have plenty of money. Thanks to the vagaries of AT&T TV, we mostly are still getting MT TV down here in AZ, and the TV advertising is almost completely political, esp at the Senator level. Average commercial break might be a couple of Bullock ads, followed by a couple of Daines ads, followed by an ad for Gov, then LT Gov.

Even in our very Republican corner of MT, we were seeing an occasional Biden sign. No other Dem signs, except maybe a rare Bullick sign. Most of the signs had little elephants in the corner, in case you forget who is one of the good guys. The Dems, of course, don’t include party affiliation. Down here, right next to Scottsdale, in AZ, we are seeing a surprising number of Biden signs, in an area where, again, most of the lower level political signs have an elephant or say Republican. Which suggests to me that the Biden campaign is providing lawn signs, and the Trump campaign is not.

I drove through a large part of rural PA a few weeks back to attend a wedding. Didn't see any Biden signs until I got to my destinations, Hanover. And in Hanover, Trump signs outnumbered Biden signs by more than 10-1.

@Bruce Hayden, I was under the impression Daines was comfortably ahead. Hope I’m not wrong.

I watched football. Comments make it sound like POTUS solidified his 41%.

Gallup has Trump at 52 percent approval, champ.

MT Senate:

RCP Average has Daines +3.3. An old Emerson (who I trust) poll has him +9, an almost as old PPP (who I don't trust) poll has a tie, two newer polls have Daines +1 & +3.
