“Burn, Baby, burn.” Oops!

Something like this also happened in Madison a few weeks ago, didn’t it? Has the women admitted to the cops that she accidentally set fire to herself while committing (or trying to commit) arson, or are the local cops still looking for invisible Boogaloo Boiz in Hawaiian shirts?

Big Mike said...

Almost forgot to comment on the explosion that happens in the last seconds of the clip. Was that rioters trying to attack the cops while they’re rescuing this stupid guy who set himself on fire?

They always run. They always fan the flames. Idiots!

A person sitting on each foot would have had those fires extinguished in seconds. Any Boy Scout could have told them that. But then, these aren't exactly Boy Scouts, are they.

The first time I watched that video, I didn't notice the *other* protester in the background whose pants caught on fire, presumably from the same Molotov cocktail. He was right next to the police line, so they were able to help him almost instantly.

By the time someone shouted the idea to 'take your shoes off' those things were probably melted onto his feet. But please note that it's probably not a top idea to put out a fire using a cocktail tray that has been modified into a shield. Those are typically not great fire extinguishers.

I had a fascination with fire (using lighter fluid) when I was a very young child- I was cured by accidentally burning the back of one of my fingers when I was 7. After that, I figured out to not play with fire. Who knows, if that life lesson hadn't been learned, I might be in Portland right now setting shit on fire.

To put a fire like that out, burning on a person like that, you use kerosene.

They're idiots, really, but I can't enjoy his predicament. A close relative was severely burned in a structure fire years ago, and the advice of the burn unit he was airlifted to was to plan for the funeral, giving us a ballpark of 5% chance of surviving. It took years in compression suits and rehab centers, but he made it, and now is mountain biking, kayaking, playing in a band, and living his best life. I also absolutely hate the 'die in a fire' offhand insult. There is nothing humorous, regardless of political differences, to wish that fate on anyone, even a mortal enemy.

Woman Set On Fire In Waukesha
The woman said she was walking her dogs when she was lit on fire by a man she didn't know who was wearing a red ball cap and a gray hoodie. At first saw the suspect while she was walking and tried to avoid him. He soon started to run at her and threw liquid that smelled like flammable liquid on her. She ran but tripped and fell. She tried to kick the man but he lit her on fire. She told police she let go of her dogs because "I was engulfed in flames," according to the complaint. She said she knew of know one who would do that. A witness saw the man walking away after the woman was set on fire.
<
Police discovered that Murn must have set the woman on fire thinking she was his cousin. The two women looked similar, the complaint said.

Everyone but Althea Bernstein.
But if it rings true, it must be true..for Booger Loos:
Protest against attack on Althea Bernstein
The Madison Police are joined by the FBI in investigating this incident, and there is a $10,000 total reward for any information that will lead to the arrest and conviction of those involved in this crime.

Edgewood College students and staff were joined by Madison community members to march “in solidarity with Althea Bernstein and others who are victims of crimes motivated by prejudice and bias,” read a statement from Edgewood College that promoted the gathering.

Edgewood students Vivi Velasquez, Jadhai Guerrero, and Sasha Shannon organized the protest together and encouraged those who wanted to participate to share messages of support for Althea, as well as donate to local charities and organizations working against racial injustice.

Guerrero feels that this attack and the racial injustice present in Madison make it so that there are many who don’t feel safe or supported in the city. “It’s a huge thing for us to stand up for this and show our support,” said Guerrero.

Before beginning the march, Guerrero addressed the crowd, saying “I don’t think that it’s fair that I’m a student, I’m a person of color, I have an accent, and I am scared driving around in my car, downtown, in my own city, where I come from. So, I think that it’s not just Edgewood, it’s the whole city.”

“It’s time for us to speak up, I don’t want to be afraid of going out. I don’t want to be afraid for my life, or for my family. We’re all in this together.”

Edgewood College President Dr. Andrew Manion was present while the protesters were gathering and, when asked about the situation, said “We need to do everything we can to promote justice in the city of Madison and beyond, and express our support when people are victimized under any circumstances. This is a terrible event, and I am glad to support the cause in solidarity with Althea and her family and we hope she recovers quickly.”

Todd, it's true that severe burns are horrifically painful and normally are nothing to joke about. But this young man had no qualms at all about inflicting that pain on someone else. If it had happened to a cop, he and the other losers there would have cheered and clapped.

I don't enjoy his pain, but I don't feel sorry for him either. Perhaps now that he knows exactly what a burn like that feels like, he'll be less likely to try to lob a Molotov cocktail at another person.

There are definitions for different types of wars. Our Revolutionary War was a successful war of independence. What we call the Civil War was actually a failed war of independence. The standard definition of a civil war is when two or more factions fight to control a country. The Confederacy never had the goal of taking control of the United States. They only wanted to be an independent country, but they lost. What is happening now in the US is closer to a civil war.

Narr said...

"the Revolution was a civil war, and the Civil War was a revolution" is close enough for me, and there's nothing specifically Marxist about it. It was a commonplace observation in grad school in the '70s and '80s--tim's bro must have listened in history class.

In truth, they were both, both.

As for persnickety lectures about the standard definition of civil war being when two or more factions fight to control a country, that's a fractional truth. Struggles for independence and secession (especially losing ones) are often called civil wars; in our case the term used before and during the Unpleasantness, as threat, warning, or lament, was civil war. It's also the term used by historians and librarians in their work.

That's why I call ours the American Civil War About Between Among and Within the States.

As to post-ACWABAWS "corporations," that's probably a reference to the argument that the defeated South became essentially an internal colony of the US; there's truth in that too.

Oh, if anybody had done it to him but his own comrades, I would be horrified. But this is a case of *friendly fire* and I can’t get to worked up about it. He was no doubt egging on the violence right up until he fucked up. If they stopped with the window smashing, the violence, the lynching, the arson, none of this would have happened. If the police had done it, for example, it would have been beyond unacceptable. Of course the police don’t use that kind of weapon, these guys do, along with blinding lasers that have been banned by treaty internationally, for example. You see the laser dots going everywhere in these videos.
