If the question is where was Biden — literally — when this photo was taken, then the knee answers the question.

He does look odd sitting on the floor like that. But it's a picture. It was posed. Whoever posed him probably thought he looked more youthful and vigorous sitting on the floor. They had a chair for him. Who'd have the ex-Vice President over to watch a football game and not provide him with a chair? It's an absurd photograph, and you can see why it was chosen to express the idea that Biden is diminished and hiding his diminishment.

His champions spring to his defense on the literal conditions under which the photograph was taken, but that only makes me think more about the real question: Is Biden up for the job? The answer to that isn't as easy as pointing out the mayor's knee, but it is as easy as Biden sitting down in the presence not of an Iowa town's mayor but in the presence of a reasonably neutral tough professional interviewer and taking questions for 90 minutes — something as challenging as what Trump has been doing repeatedly.

ADDED: Here's the Trump ad that uses the photograph:

You ask the impossible. Intense questioning is verboten for Leftists and their favored ones. It is, of course, permissible for - even demanded of - Trump.

Siiting down with a tough interviewer won't mattef. Rice has been doing it but doesn't answer the tough questions. Biden would just throw out a few come on mans and an insult.

Amazingly it seems to work

It’s very hard for me to believe that Biden wasn’t photoshopped into that picture. It looks so awkward and off balance. Maybe something this high-profile has to be real, but it sure isn’t natural.

tim maguire said...

Looking at the campaign video, I don’t think anyone watching it would conclude that every picture of Biden is him in his basement, just as I don’t think anyone believes he sits on the floor in his basement. (And most people realize “basement” is a metaphor.)

So what we have here is another example of Trump’s critics unintentionally spreading Trump’s message for him.

tim in vermont said...

This is one of those protestations that emphasizes the point rather than refuting it. Where are we going to get pictures of Biden hiding out in his bunker? Why not run a whole series of Biden at public appearances with dates if you want to show he isn’t hiding out? Because there aren’t very many of them.

Campaign ads are required to be literal now?

How many times did Obama stand, or sit, for challenging interviews? Did Chris Wallace ever get him to sit down and take, and answer, tough questions? Did any reporter ever follow-up an Obama answer with a question of its veracity?

Biden will never have to answer tough or challenging questions. He will never sit down or appear with anyone except supporters and toadies.

You're going to have to judge his competence, his fitness, for the job based on fluffy campaign ads and softball interviews and virtual town halls.

"Of course the opposite took place."

I think the reason why they didn't reform, thus ending up with Biden, is that their elite is so entrenched and interlocking. They'd have to cut off easy sources of funding and fight job-by-job through the party, the bureaucracy, the schools, and the foundations to remove the people who volunteered to be enslaved by the likes of Hillary. Every last one of them is still in place, which means that America's problem is also the Dem's main problem.

Barack Obama.

His admin gutted the party of all the rising talent. The hard-left (including in the admin) believed that they no longer needed the blue-collar Dems who make up the party rank-and-file in order to win, so they pushed an aggressively left-wing agenda, including Obamacare, which resulted in losing over a thousand seats across all levels of government. Many of the Dems who lost were purple state Dems and more moderate figures who could have served as an effective counter to Trump. Instead all that the party is left with are the old guard safe in deep blue seats, and a bunch of hungry young radicals who aren't willing to wait another ten years, or moderate their views, in order to obtain power. The unrest, cancel culture, and SJW cultism we're seeing right now isn't about justice, it's about power. The activists are trying to one-up each other to demonstrate leadership over the future of the party. Biden was picked because the old guard who still have some control over the process couldn't find anyone else, and because many of the more radical options flamed out during the primaries.

The judge in the second half of the episode (played by Ned Beatty) is overly reliant on his clerk. Eventually it becomes clear that the judge has dementia, and his decisions from the bench are based on what his clerk tells him. She types into her computer, and he reads his own screen and makes his rulings.

Eventually the D.A. and the defense attorney contrive for the clerk to be placed on the stand for a procedural matter. She tries to influence the judge but she's prevented from speaking. The judge keeps looking at his computer and tapping the keys but nothing shows up. He can't make his own ruling, and asks, "Now what do I do?" So his incapacity is exposed.

In one panel she muses something like "So essentially, I am running all of China"

Or, in real life, not TV, not comics, Edith Wilson. For about a year Woodrow Wilson was in a coma and his somewhat dim wife Edith was th eonly one allowed to "talk" to him. The cabinet would ask her "What does President Wilson want us to do about [insert policy issue here)?"

Let's consider teh US economy before teh Wuhan Flu:

Jobs were growing. There were more job ads out than people looking for work. Wages for the lower income worker, which had been falling behind those of the upper class, were finally growing, and growing faster than those of the upper class.

China was surrendering in its trade war with the US. The wretched deal to let Iran get nuclear weapons was being undone, and Iran was being trimmed back.
