My son returned my grandson to his mother here in NY 2 weeks early because of Dictator Cuomo's unconstitutional 2 week quarantine edict. My wife and I were fine with our grandson here for a day. When my son got to hos other grandparents' house, where my my ex-daughter in law lives because she can't hold down a job or afford her own place, they greeted him wearing gloves and masks. But a female judge decided he's be better off with her.

Fucking assholes. Emotional abuse of a child as far as I'm concerned.

French summarizes the Senate Intelligence Committee’s report:

When a campaign chair clandestinely communicates with a Russian intelligence officer, when a campaign tries to obtain opposition research from Russian government sources and Russian intelligence assets, and when a campaign lies about attempts to engineer multimillion dollar business deals in Russia, it has not only crossed every line of propriety, it creates grave counterintelligence vulnerabilities. And we haven’t even discussed the fact that its chief national security consultant, Michael Flynn, had received tens of thousands of dollars from the Kremlin and was serving as an unlawfully undisclosed foreign agent of the government of Turkey during the campaign.

I've been waiting for a Cafe to bring this up, because it isn't really one of the hot topics on Althouse blog.

This article about Google's plan to offer post-high school "certificates" here talks about a future alternative to 4 year or community college degrees ("credentials") that could (in my opinion) be very attractive to high schoolers, and could put additional pressure on those 4 year and even community colleges.

My COVID spreadsheets updated:

US Data up to August 21
Individual States COVID Stats

Cases and deaths are definitely in a decline, but the deaths are dropping slower because several states are now backdating previous deaths to claim COVID as a cause (the so-called death certificate matching), probably due to the CARES Act financial incentives. This is now happening all across the southern tier of the US.

The only states with what can be called legitimate increases in confirmed cases the last week are ND, SD, HI, and IL. The Face Diaper/Lockdown brigade will have to find some way to increase testing by a factor of two, or else the panic will be hard to maintain after September rolls around. If you use New York as a guide, it is likely the entire country will have a positive rate of around 1-2% by the second week of September, which at current testing levels is about 7,500 to 15,000 new cases/day, and it is very unlikely many states will continue to test at high rates if the positive rate is not much higher than the test's claimed false positive rate the way New York and New Jersey has. You could easily see the number of RT-PCR tests fall to 400,000 by September 15 at the rate it is going.

Beijing Boy: "When a campaign chair clandestinely communicates with a Russian intelligence officer,...."

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

How about the democratical Senate Intelligence Committee leader reaches out secretly to Putin connected hoax dossier supposed source:

"Democratic Sen. Mark Warner texted with Russian oligarch lobbyist in effort to contact dossier author Christopher Steele"

Meanwhile, in news guaranteed to make ARM curl up in a ball and cry like a child (again), we have Trump continuing to squeeze Beijing Boy ARM's Heroic and Courageous People's Republic of China ChiComs:

On Point: State and Commerce Declare War on Chinese Malware and Malgear

"This past week, the U.S. State Department and U.S. Department of Commerce launched new diplomatic, economic and legal initiatives designed to counter communist China's global malware and malgear offensive."

But it gets even better:

Countering Chinese expansionism: India, Japan and Australia to form a trilateral plus supply chain

"This development is taking place in the backdrop of countries like Japan, Australia and US planning to move out their companies from China. Japan has instituted a $ 2 bn fund to help the Japanese companies in this context. US and Australia have entered into an agreement for China free supply chain for rare earth materials. India is taking steps to attract companies to start production in India. In March, India had approved Production Linked Incentive that offers incentives for production in India and to reduce imports of raw material from China for the production of crucial antibiotics, anti-HIV drugs, vitamins, and cardio medicines."

Wait!! There's more guaranteed to make Beijing Boy cry in his ChiCom noodles:

Trump signs bill banning government use of Huawei and ZTE tech

"Huawei and ZTE technology will largely be banned from use by the US government and government contractors. The ban was signed into placed by President Trump today as a component of the much larger Defense Authorization Act."

Wait!! There's even more to make ChiCom ARM scream:

Destroyer makes Navy’s 10th trip through Taiwan Strait this year

"The number of Navy trips through the strait has escalated along with tensions between the U.S. and China in the South and East China seas."

All leading to things like this:

As Relations With U.S. Sink, China Tones Down ‘Hotheaded’ Nationalism

"For weeks, China fanned nationalist sentiment in its escalating war of words with the Trump administration. Now, it is toning down its message and calling for a truce, as President Trump increasingly makes Beijing a target in his bid for re-election in November."

Meanwhile, Japan, Australia, South Korea, India all increasing offensive weapons procurement and building up their strike capabilities....at the urging of Trump.

I'll just leave it at that. I fear that if I listed one more way ARM's Beloved Beijing Heroes were being squeezed by Trump it would drive ARM back into therapy and, considering how much therapy LLR-lefty Chuck requires, we don't want to limit psychological counseling capacity and availability.

Drago said...

In fact, LLR-lefty Chuck threatened to fight anyone who dared to cast aspersions on democrat election officials at any level.

LLR-lefty Chuck was quite adamant that he would not tolerate criticism of democrats in Detroit.

There's a tantalizing suggestion that it might be possible hinted at right below the comment edit box:

"You can use some HTML tags, such as <b>, <i>, <a>"

For making clickable links, use the following code as a template/cheatsheet (save for future reference).

Click <a href="http://www.yahoo.com">here</a> to go to yahoo.

That is: Put the link between the two " ".
and put the text between the > and the <.
like this:
<a href="LINK HERE">TEXT HERE</a>

Also: Watch out for(“) and (”) versus (") (Apple likes to be typograhically helpful which is fine in situations other than geeky HTML).

That is: Turn off Smart Punctuation so the double quotes aren't changed to left and right double quotes.

How to Turn Off Smart Punctuation on Your iPhone and iPad

How To Disable Smart Quotes On Your Mac

So that turns into:

Click here to go to yahoo.

Extra credit: The other two things you can do...

To italicize
To <i>italicize</i>

To make bold
To make <b>bold</b>

also note:

To do both
To do <i></b>both</b></i>

More extra credit: You might try this to inspire clicking in some cases:

In a long-awaited report released on Tuesday, the Senate panel affirmed previous findings that there was no evidence of collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia. It also blasted the FBI’s handling of information from Christopher Steele.

Reflections on Myrna Loy: The title of her autobiography is Being and Becoming. Despite the title, she doesn't seem to have had many philosophical insights into the nature of her life's journey. She started in movies as Fu Manchu's evil daughter and ended as America's perfect wife. The latter designation was as ill fitting as the former. She never had any children and her marriages were unsuccessful. Her second husband would occasionally strike her. She had to cancel a luncheon with her hero FDR because of a black eye.....She does not reflect on the gap between her image and the reality of her life. She's not really an airhead, but for someone who knew how to deliver a line, she doesn't seem to have ever pondered the meaning of the drama....She was in many successful movies, but only one great one, The Best Years of Our Lives. She explains how brave it was of her to play a woman with a grown up daughter. The greatest generation took on the hard roles....It wasn't a tell all book. Rather the opposite. She explains how Joan Crawford only wished her children to be well mannered and how woefully her daughter had misrepresented her....I would have preferred better from Nora Chalres or, at least, wittier badinage, but I wasn't really disillusioned. Maybe mildly disappointed. She wasn't quite who you hoped for, but, on screen anyway, it was a convincing act.

ARM, do you live in Kansas? Are you running in a primary election for office?

A 19-year-old Democratic candidate, who confessed that he carried out abusive behavior toward multiple girls in middle school, won his primary race for the Kansas state House of Representatives. Community college student Aaron Coleman won his primary despite confessing that he engaged in "bullying, revenge porn, and blackmail."

Coleman defeated 13-year incumbent Stan Frownfelter, 823 to 809, in the Aug. 4 Democratic primary for the 37th District. The results were certified this week. There is no Republican challenger for the seat, which makes Coleman a near shoo-in for the November election.

However, Coleman has baggage that has his own party questioning whether he is fit to serve office. During the campaign, he told former Republican state lawmaker John Whitmer that he would "laugh and giggle when you get COVID and die," according to the Kansas City Star.

Sure sounds like ARM but I thought you were a little older.

Yes, the statistics indicate we have reached maximums, and the rollovers preceded the restrictive mandates. At best, we could have reduced excess deaths through early treatment(s) (e.g. HCQ "disinfectant" cocktail), isolation of at risk individuals (e.g. Planned Parent), controlling social contagion, and enforcing best practices in medical facilities to mitigate cross-contamination.

Public health recommendations for the next pandemic, made in 2006

In Asia during the SARS period, many people in the affected communities wore surgical masks when in public. But studies have shown that the ordinary surgical mask does little to prevent inhalation of small dropletsbearing influenza virus. The pores in the mask become blocked by moisture from breathing, and the air stream simply diverts around the mask. There are few data avail-able to support the efficacy of N95 or surgical masks out-side a healthcare setting. N95 masks need to be fit-tested to be efficacious and are uncomfortable to wear for more than an hour or two.

They are less effective for aerosol transmission modes, which some presume is the primary mode for transmission of the Wuhan virus a.k.a. SARS-CoV-2. This would explain why the epidemiological map tracks across jurisdictions that adopt different mitigation strategies.

I live in the foothills east of Seattle, work in Seattle but work mostly now from home, and am currently on a short vacation to Idaho with my family.

Where I live, people wear masks when in a business of any kind, don’t wear them when out walking.

Thursday I had to go into Seattle for work, and did a little reconnaissance. I drove all the way up 5th Avenue from SoDo to Westlake Center, then drove up to Capital Hill and all the way up Broadway. For those who know the area, you recognize that I went to some sensitive areas. Local businesses seems to be open and functioning normally. Any chain store, national brand, “corporation”, or bank was boarded up, some pretty forbiddingly. Those leftist protesters really hate national brands. Everyone, almost without exception, was wearing a mask. Except the homeless people.

Here in Coeur D’Alene, we just spent a couple of hours walking downtown and along the shore. Weather is great, and a lot of people are out, and very very few are wearing masks. Mask wearers stand out very strikingly. When I saw one, I’d tell my wife, she’s from Seattle. Saw a couple relaxed and friendly cops, also unmasked, who were greeted by citizens when they walked by. Some children were giving an open air music recital for their families sitting on the grass. It was another world.

“Trump campaign, Russia had extensive contacts

A comprehensive list of contacts between members of the campaign and Russia were uncovered during the committee’s bipartisan investigation, which launched shortly after Trump took office in January 2017.

Communications between several Russian figures and the campaign surfaced in other investigations by the House and Mueller, but the Senate probe uncovered additional information, including several cases where Russians had far greater ties to the Kremlin.

Key individual labeled as Russian intelligence officer

The report went further than other U.S. officials have in its description of Konstantin Kilimnik, Manafort’s former business partner, by labeling him a “Russian intelligence officer.”

Russia and other countries took advantage of the Transition Team's inexperience, transparent opposition to Obama Administration policies, and Trump's desire to deepen ties with Russia, to pursue unofficial channels through which Russia could conduct diplomacy,” the report reads, noting that this made the “transition open to influence and manipulation.”

The committee determined that Manafort posed a “grave counterintelligence threat” as a result of both his access to and standing in the Trump campaign and his contacts with Russian-linked individuals.

“Taken as a whole, Manafort's high level access and willingness to share information with individuals closely affiliated with the Russian intelligence services, particularly Kilimnik and associates of Oleg Deripaska, represented a grave counterintelligence threat,” the report states.

The committee’s lengthy investigation further enforced Mueller’s findings that Russia engaged in a sweeping and multipronged effort to influence the outcome of the 2016 election, which has led to a bipartisan push in Washington to further address election interference threats from Russia and other foreign adversaries.”

Notice the lack of ANY specificity. One name, familiar to anyone with pedestrian knowledge of the facts. Notice the shifting of persons involved, timeline, and lack of goals and outcomes.

While the snippets quoted are not lies, the snippets quoted do not get near to the conclusion that President Trump, his campaign, or administration colluded with Russia to affect a single vote in the election. The Mueller Report states clearly that President Trump, his campaign, transition team, or administration, did NOT collude with Russia. In Fact, the report adds...."no American, colluded with Russia". This additional tag line was added to absolve Clinton's wife. Its obvious that using the mandated number of 'cutouts' when colluding with Russia, is something strictly enforced by Mueller.

So. Name names, provide document, create the timeline.
Because I have seen these things.
Like the FBI Document that recommends closing Crossfire Hurricane, and Crossfire Razor...wait for it...because no derogatory information exists to tie the Trump campaign/transition, to Russia
That's an FBI document, dated January 4th, 2017. The FBI declaring nothing exists to continue any investigation into Trump/Russia. No evidence.

Now. Present your document to support the bullshit you posted here tonight.

Njall, Saw a couple relaxed and friendly cops, also unmasked, who were greeted by citizens when they walked by. Some children were giving an open air music recital for their families sitting on the grass. It was another world.

It truly is and Sandpoint, about 60 miles north of CDA, is even nicer, sort of like CDA was 50 years ago when I was there. My daughter has 5 acres to build on some day just outside of Sandpoint. She lives in Santa Monica now and is kind of stressed by the idiots. The only issue with northern ID is making a living. Her husband is a sculptor and sells his work online. I could see them with a small gallery in Sandpoint in a couple of years. Sandpoint is pretty upscale but seasonal.

I see several comments here which make up things I never said; attributing positions to me that I have never held; imagining controversies in which I was never involved,

It bothers me greatly that so many of you can’t recite even the simplest of facts correctly. But I expect that it bothers Althouse even more that so many of you want to turn comments pages from interesting things and current events, into retread personal attacks on me.

But it doesn’t matter to me at this point. We have just a few weeks until early and absentee voting begin. And 73 days until they are counted. All that matters is the defeat of Trump.

“When a campaign chair clandestinely communicates with a Russian intelligence officer, when a campaign tries to obtain opposition research from Russian government sources and Russian intelligence assets, and when a campaign lies about attempts to engineer multimillion dollar business deals in Russia, it has not only crossed every line of propriety, it creates grave counterintelligence vulnerabilities. And we haven’t even discussed the fact that its chief national security consultant, Michael Flynn, had received tens of thousands of dollars from the Kremlin and was serving as an unlawfully undisclosed foreign agent of the government of Turkey during the campaign.”

Who was that “Russian intelligence officer”? Could it have been Joseph Misfyp? The same Joseph Misfyp who taught at the Link Institute in Rome, where FBI National Security Branch (which filled out the FISA warrant applications) attended, and the CIA often held functions? The same Joseph Misfyp shown in pictures with British PMs Teresa May and (soon to be) Boris Johnson in 2016, and both Alexander Downer and Stephen Halper (who was under contract at the time to an obscure US IC agency) in earlier years? The reality is that far from being a Russian spy, Misfyp was a long time Western intelligence asset. And that means instead of actually involving spying by the Russians, Misfyp set the hook, and Downer reeled him in.

As for Flynn, his relationship with Turkey was never undisclosed. He pretty much reported everything he did to the DIA, the agency he used to run, including everything he did with Turkey. Second, everything that he did or didn’t do in regards to FARA was done upon advice of counsel (Covington). They advised him that he didn’t need to file, which advice was proven accurate when his partner was tried and easily acquitted of the crime. Also, Flynn, his parter, son, and attorneys were almost the only people ever criminally charged under FARA. For everyone else, violating FARA is an administrative offense, for which only fines are ever levied. Except for Brandon Van Grack and the Mueller investigation prosecutors, who discovered that they could use FARA to attack Flynn and the Trump Administration.

"Running on a $10 trillion platform and putting Harris on the ticket illustrates Biden’s willingness to be pressured by the left-wing forces engulfing the Democratic Party. Despite legacy media’s endless promotion of the progressive pair as “pragmatic moderates,” Harris has the second most liberal voting record in the Senate, even left of Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders. Harris has previously endorsed Medicare for All, the Green New Deal, higher taxes, open borders, sanctuary cities, tax-payer funded health care for illegal immigrants, late-term abortion and a religious litmus test for Catholic nominations to the federal judiciary. There’s nothing conservative about that platform, which would likely take over the administration even if Biden claims to call the shots.

Kasich tried to appease moderate concerns Monday night by voicing his faith that Biden will refrain from turning “sharp left,” even though Biden already has.

After unveiling the 110-page “Unity Task Forces” agreement which promises to waste no crisis to “rewrite the economy” and achieve “environmental justice” with Sanders, the Vermont socialist heralded Biden if elected, as “the most progressive president since FDR.”

QAnon has the advantage of actually existing, even if there are only dozen or so of them, and most of the things on their crazy conspiracies list are at least partly true. (Though I’ve never seen an official list of their claims, the only descriptions come from their critics, which makes it especially curious that so many of them have hard factual support.)

I didn't vote for Whitmer. I think she's a lightweight. I'm no supporter of hers; but she did win the 2018 general rather handily. And she beat a totally Trump-devoted Republican. A Trumpist Republican who was personally anointed by PDJT in the primary, split the Michigan GOP, and then got his little ass kicked in the general.

Republicans won't be winning much of anything in Michigan until we get rid of Trump's malign influence.
