How lucky to have Otters. They're the epitome of cute. Trump gave one of the best press conferences ever and I loved how he made them look like fools over their stupid QAnon questions. Imagine it, all the fucking important things going on the world, and they waste Trump's time asking about some Kooks.

The POTUS also had a great comment about Obama. He said he had a great life going on before 2015, and Trump never would've run for POTUS if Obama had not been such a bust. And he never would've won if people hadn't been so upset at Obama's awful job.

Of course Yeb! had to go on twitter and rant about how upset he was that Trump didn't "disavow" them. Thereby showing that the Bush family doesn't get smarter, they just get older. Look for Mittens to join Yeb! and grandstand on this bit of trivia and win some points with the NYT/WaPo.

Why would they protest their friends? People like Howard think kicking a guy in the head who was trying to defend a transwoman from being attacked by Antifa is a noble act. Blinding police officers with lasers is akin to storming the beaches at Normandy.

Morally corrupt turds like Howie and ARM love the violence.

No Army or National Guard unit exists in American Somoa despite frequent attempts by congress to establish a company-sized National Guard unit for the all of the Northern Mariana Islands. Methinks that some American Somoa politicans donned the uniforms and covid masks in order to push for a federal law establishing some security to become available during catastophies.

“Wearing a uniform to a partisan political event . . . is prohibited,” Lt. Col. Emanuel Ortiz, a Defense Department spokesman, said . . . . “The Army follows the Department of Defense’s longstanding and well-defined policy regarding political campaigns and elections to avoid the perception of DoD sponsorship, approval or endorsement of any political candidate, campaign or cause.”

Ortiz must have missed the in uniform attendance of Trump staffers in the White House where Navy personnel actually run the kitchens. And since there is nothing more political than the Trump White House, what difference does it make if they are or are not in uniform? Senior staffers appointed and serving the administration are, after all, called by their military rank.

BBC:

Russian opposition figure Alexei Navalny is unconscious in hospital with suspected poisoning, his spokeswoman has said.

The anti-corruption campaigner fell ill during a flight and the plane made an emergency landing in Omsk, Kira Yarmysh said, adding that they suspected something had been mixed into his tea.

A hospital source confirmed treatment for poisoning to the Tass news agency.

Mr Navalny, 44, is a staunch critic of President Vladimir Putin.

In June he described a vote on constitutional reforms as a "coup" and a "violation of the constitution". The reforms allow Mr Putin to serve another two terms in office.

Kira Yarmysh, the press secretary for the Anti-Corruption Foundation Mr Navalny founded in 2011, tweeted: "This morning Navalny was returning to Moscow from Tomsk.

"During the flight, he felt ill. The plane made an urgent landing in Omsk. Alexei has toxic poisoning. Right now we are going to hospital."

She added: "We suspect that Alexei was poisoned by something mixed into [his] tea. It was the only thing he drank since morning.

"Doctors are saying that the toxic agent absorbed faster through the hot liquid. Right now Alexei is unconscious."

Ms Yarmysh later tweeted that Mr Navalny was in intensive care, on a ventilator and in a coma, and that the police had been called. She said there were no test results as yet.

Tass reported that the Omsk Emergency Hospital had confirmed he was in a serious condition.

"Alexei Anatolyevich Navalny, born in 1976. Poisoning intensive care," the hospital source quoted by Tass said.

Shipwreckedcrew's latest tweets putting the Kevin Clinesmith plea agreement into useful perspective:

Nope. Durham's reputation is that of the relentless irresistible force.

@AlbenOldacre
· 2h
Replying to @PolAgnostic and @shipwreckedcrew
Durham doesn't seem to be following Weissman's model of shock and awe.

@shipwreckedcrew
What that means is that the separate document likely describes all the criminal conduct he has told them about. Anything he knows about but HAS NOT told them about he's still subject to being prosecuted for.

3h
So he is motivated, and it is in his best interest, to tell Durham EVERYTHING so it will all be covered by his agreement. Anything he holds back means he's still exposed to later prosecution.
·
3h
Here's one of the beautiful things about having government agents sit in on a meeting. Even when it's just the agent and the prosecutor, FBI protocol is that the Agent goes back to his office and writes a memo about the meeting, and sticks it in the file.

3h
When multiple people attended, the agents are very good about listing everyone by name and title. So, when someone like John Durham comes along and wants to know more about a particular meeting, he finds the FBI memo, looks at who was present, and goes and talks to them.

3h
I have a feeling that in the 20 months that Clinesmith was assigned to Crossfire Hurricane, he sat in on A LOT of meetings, and his name is listed on A LOT of memos.
Durham will probably ask about every one of them.

Thanks Paco, for the Tablet article -

Hydroxychloroquine: A Morality Tale.

"Science" is not science, under these circumstances.
Unfortunately for the world this corruption has been going on for a very long time.
It has been so for instance in the Global Warming/Green Energy and pollution control areas.
Wherever there is a question of government regulation or policy making windfalls for important enough players.

buwaya said...

The most telling things in that article, IMHO, are the weasel-worded statement to the NYT by Haider Warraich of Harvard, a deliberate if subtle falsehood, and the gross incompetence by Mandeep Mehra, also of Harvard.

This is not the scientific ethics of Richard Feynman -

"you should not fool the laymen when you're talking as a scientist. . . . I'm talking about a specific, extra type of integrity that is not lying, but bending over backwards to show how you're maybe wrong, [an integrity] that you ought to have when acting as a scientist. And this is our responsibility as scientists, certainly to other scientists, and I think to laymen."

That is most certainly now gone, such is the corruption of your universities, at the very top of their hierarchy, even in the "hard" areas of human knowledge. That is a corruption from which there is no recovery.

Interesting shooting in Chicago last night. Some “guys” in a BMW pulled up in front of some other people In a decent neighborhood getting into a parked car and robbed them, then they fired a shot at them and ran off. They missed. The first thing is where else in the world would gangbang robbers have a BMW? What a country! Next, what would make them shoot into their victims as they were running away? If they wanted to kill witnesses they didn’t try hard. They apparently just got off on shooting at them. Something has changed, the killers are now in charge of the city.

If I had to lay down cash for a bet, I would bet muskrat, but I usually tell them apart by behavior and I am not 100% sure. Muskrats kind of dogpaddle from point A to point B in a businesslike manner, and otters are always playing when they swim, it seems to me.

It's interesting to see your priorities. You agree with Goodyear that supporting the police is not allowed ? I assume your neighborhood is crime free so far.

Bruce Hayden said...

“Goodyear bad, QAnon good.”

Yesterday Trump was asked about the QAnons supporting him. His response was essentially that they supported hi, which is always a good thing, so he wasn’t going to condemn them. But as everything unfolds, the question arises about why the sudden interest in QAnons?

I didn’t realize that there was an organized campaign against Q and his Anons until I got into a long attack on them in Reason, of all places. They are being called wild conspiracy theorists, and their biggest crime apparently is calling a bunch of top Democrats pedophiles. Not the Epstein level post adolescent type pedophiles, like Bill Clinton, Prince Andrew, etc, appear to be, but rather real preadolescent, likely male homosexual, pedophiles. I am agnostic on those claims. Q and his Anonschave been right on several other topics, but the evidence of a DC pedo ring still sounds a bit far fetched.

But they haven’t been wrong overall about SpyGate (the (mostly) FBI manufactured Trump/Russian collusion hoax), nor, really, about Jeffrey Epstein, what he was doing, and how he was being protected by the top tiers of at least our government (at a minimum to protect the a Clintons), as well as the British government (at a minimum to protect Prince Andrew).

Why the attack on Q and his Anons right now? Easy - the Democrat’s National Convention, where Biden was nominated, and Obama and both Clintons spoke. The QAnons managed to dirty up all four of them. SpyGate has now reached into the Obama Oval Office, to a meeting there, where Biden apparently suggested using the Logan Act against Gen Flynn, presumably to keep him out of a Trump White House (for all of the locations of the bodies he knew in the IC from his time running the DIA). And, of course, Bill Clinton was a frequent flyer on Epstein’s Lolita Express to his Pedophile Island, and was shown in a Blue Dress in a painting in Epstein’s NYC mansion. There is some evidence that his wife, Crooked Hillary, visited there too (bolstering the long term rumors about her sexual orientation).

Begonia said...

I was going to say that looks more like a beaver than an otter. It's too big for a muskrat I think. Beavers are big and move a lot faster than a muskrat.

Madison has tons of muskrat so I would expect Althouse and Meade to recognize them appropriately.

I've seen mink and beavers on Wingra Creek. I've also seen a beaver along Lake Monona near Olin Point. The only time I've seen beavers are at dawn and dusk, so that's another point toward the beaver ID.

The Lakeshore Nature Preserve Flickr page includes a photo of muskrats and mink, but no otters or beavers.
