Amazon Prime free video "Party Tricks" is fairly good and has possibilities for future episodes, but seems to have died after season 1.

I wouldn't have developed it quite the way they did, the key for me being the guy being a considerate gentleman even if the opponent, vs the woman's doubt about the matter. Classic romcom plot though without the at the end you get married component.

I don't think the people chastising him for his marriage(to which i actually know nothing about) have any ground to stand, but the irony of his duplictous insincerity coming back to bite him on video is AU(gold)!

The sycn of the war criminal accusation with him saying bombs was the best for me :D

You still blog about interesting subjects Althouse. Unfortunately by forcing you to moderate comments, the bad actors here have ruined the conversational aspect of this place. That’s too bad. I’m one who would rather pay a subscription annually and earn my continued presence in an unmoderated blog than continue to experience the pale shadow of the vibrant Althouse Community. I would rather have to pay and log in and enjoy a troll-free but open site. A conversational site. I don’t know if that’s possible. Hot Air went that way, but they are so anti-Trump the attraction is minimal. I won’t pay for that. So I don’t see their Premium posts or comment there. For Althouse, full strength and a free exchange of ideas, I would pay. It would be worth it. You attracted an interesting community. Maybe we should build a wall around it.

Now, Glenn Reynolds is so desperate, he's comparing blacks to Nazis, so he can defend a Christian named "Coonrod".

Man, these professors can be LOSERS.

No Crack - blacks are not Nazis.

BLM is just another white left front group to keep blacks in chains.

Have fun kneeling.

I agree. This blog (really, it’s superior comment’s section) is a regular part of my mornings and there’s no reason you shouldn’t get a few bucks out of me, especially if members could exchange comments freely. I use Amazon more than I should, but usually simply forget to use the Althouse portal.

I never cared about the trolls and hysterics, as it’s always been easy enough to scroll by them. If anything, I found their manic hostility fascinating, these tormented Eleanor Rigby’s of Progdom (and, admittedly, a few of Condom) whose lives where consumed blurting insensately for the entertainment of the sane. The WuFlu forced the cancellation of the local Extreme Midget Wrestling exposition yesterday (seriously) so I’ll take my sensationalism where I can find it.

I do miss the years when the comments had a broader range of thoughtful commenters. Not that the current lot isn’t thoughtful, but at one time there were more Gay and intelligent Left perspectives.

I think the comments have improved under this method. The 2 person back and forth is gone. Maybe you liked doing that, but it was not readable. This way, people are more substantive, less trolling and less looking for action. I’m not giving my energy to hosting that sort of thing anymore. It was abusive to me.

The pay solution wouldn’t work. Not enough people would do it, and it would make the worst people feel entitled to abuse my hospitality.

A survey could test your theory, although only you know how many is enough. Now I’m intrigued by your elliptic dismissal. I’d peg the value to me at $20/month roughly, maybe more. It wouldn’t make you rich but could scare off trolls.

At least you figured that out. The jump from slut to whore is challenging.

and it would make the worst people feel entitled to abuse my hospitality.

Once you got to the point of making a thousand, was it, or only five hundred bucks, for an hour's time of blogging (some of this stuff must take you three minutes to create and post, including the photos), then the worst, best, and all people would expect you to take requests.

Rotten AND insane. Chicken wings are ideal, substantive bar food. All four good groups there, what with the dressing and celery/carrot sticks. Has the good Governor never heard of keto? Some people don't want bread!

More squishy "evidence" of lasting effects from COVID-19, from Yahoo News:

Long-lasting COVID symptoms from lungs to limbs linger in coronavirus 'long haulers'

"It's not all in their minds.

An unknown but growing number of the 4 million U.S. COVID-19 patients say they can't shake symptoms ranging from fatigue to serious respiratory or neurological problems, often for months after diagnosis. The ailments are all the more challenging because patients say they often face skeptical families, friends, employers and even doctors
."

Horrors! Doctors doubting subjective complaints!

"Research is limited on these so-called "long haulers." New York City's Mount Sinai hospital appears to have the first post-COVID treatment center in the U.S."

...which now makes me wonder, cynical as I am, if practitioners at Mt. Sinai Hospital have discovered that there's a market for PC19S (Post-COVID-19 Syndrome).

"A study of 143 patients in Italy out this month in JAMA Network found 87% of patients who had recovered from COVID-19 reported at least one lingering symptom, notably fatigue and trouble breathing.

Natalie Lambert, an Indiana University associate research professor, analyzed at least 1,100 responses to a poll about post-COVID-19 symptoms in the 81,000-member Survivor Corps Facebook group. More than half of the patients reported at least one of six symptoms, including the now-common fatigue and breathing problems.
"

143 patients! A poll! It must be a thing, then.

MadTownGuy said...

CDC jumps on the lingering illness bandwagon...with results from a poll-by-phone survey.

"Summary
What is already known about this topic?

Relatively little is known about the clinical course of COVID-19 and return to baseline health for persons with milder, outpatient illness.

What is added by this report?

In a multistate telephone survey of symptomatic adults who had a positive outpatient test result for SARS-CoV-2 infection, 35% had not returned to their usual state of health when interviewed 2–3 weeks after testing. Among persons aged 18–34 years with no chronic medical conditions, one in five had not returned to their usual state of health.
"

I'd like to see a peer-reviewed study comparing measurable statistics on the reported symptoms, compared to those experienced during recovery from other coronavirus (non-COVID-19) illnesses.

Amazon Prime "Liverpool" so far isn't bad.

I mention it only because there's so much free crap there that maybe it will save time.

I don't check back to see if anybody responds to comments, under the new system. It's all too old by the time responses would be there. So it's all response to initial mistakes Althouse makes in her post, and nothing of restating stuff in a way that isn't misunderstood.

What did Roger Waters write about Syd Barret - a piper, a painter, a poet - he was all those things but the kind of example of the damage the blessed '60's can do to a nice Jewish boy from south (pronounced 'saarth'!) London. The innocent of heart, they die.

People still confuse Jeremy Spencer, a god-gifted man, and Peter Green - he, the latter, was a poet, not a craftsman.

I get it. I get it - everyone dies - but Bowie, Reed, Cohen - who else? My generation, which will not get fooled, again - everyday the broken window, the burning car - what does one think - that they went to heaven and I'm stuck in hell? Peter Green.

What did Jim Morrison - son of a General - say "Yeah, this is California - the place where the only people who rush the stage are guys!". Like Raymond Chandler, who died, sad and drunk there (Faulkner too - a grave of who disappoints!), - the personality of a paper cup. Which are now band! Well, everywhere is California, now. And there are no paper cups! (You remember in 'Jaws' where Richard Dreyfuss crushes his 'paper cup'?)

I'm not afraid of covid - a stupid virus - how many times have we had a stupid virus? - but I am afraid of 'other' people, of being stabbed or beaten up - not from Black or Asian people - but from my own son, privileged white bastards who reckon we’re old and stupid!

One constantly worries whether one is an idiot - of course, one is - but watching 'Deep Impact' one realises, no, your not alone - like all disaster movies, they get it wrong - the point is not surviving - who would want to survive and for what? - but not surviving. Mankind, as a species, is as meaningful as nothing - unless it produce a new Shakespeare, another Peter Green.

Who is Miley Cyrus? And what's Higson-Boson? You might ask. Quaeretur. The latter is about the supposed discovery of a new particle - the online 'worry' was by 'discovering' how the universe works they might explode it. The former, your guess is as good as mine. But why is she in a lake?

What was the last, really great poem written approximate to now, I mean written contemporaneously (excluding me, of course!), if that word exists - you read? Not the drivel one gets in the New Yorker (what a publication that's become - when I was a kid I had the privilege to read a whole back catalogue - was I in ecstasy!) - not prose rants that by chopping themselves up think they can be poetry, not anger but beauty - that which is from God.

I will be soon (gone) - I am a coward - if you beat me up do I not run away? I know I write the poetry, you just have the worms.

Lewis said...

You know, Anne, how boring life gets - Jim Morrison was beautiful but that was, what, 70 years ago? Life creates itself - and it disposes of itself - no one 'learns' from alleged 'history' - for every 'new' generation thinks that that 'alleged' is bogus - we say 'learn' and they say 'toss your learning in the bin' - that is nature. And, maybe, one day, they'll look in that bin and say 'Here's Horace, here's Homer and Sophocles, Aeschylus, Heraclitus, Aristotle, Plato'. In the 'bin', of course, in the 'sin bin'. I mean to say 'how stupid' but, also, forgive. And understand.
