The "Black Lives Mattered to Col. Heg" sign — at the base of the empty plinth where Heg once stood —  marred by scrawled "Yeah, & the state is STILL RACIST."

When you define racist as "having white skin" you really need to rethink your definition of racism. Here's a hint: If you define a thought pattern, a behavior pattern, a societal pattern, on the basis of skin color, YOU are the racist.

There is no compromise. There can be no compromise. You may not voluntarily submit to the Gleischaltung, but you will be made to submit to the Gleischaltung. Reminds me of a Revolutionary Movements class at the good old UW in the early 90s. We studied Cambodia. I asked the prof how a highly educated leadership (Pol Pot was just that) could willingly kill so many. The response was chilling. “Resisting the movement is no different from how cancer resists the body’s immune system. If a patient has cancer in the leg, you cut off the leg to save the patient.” Cambodia happened within my lifetime! Do I think the Killing Fields are in our future? I hope not. But what ended that? Vietnam (communist Vietnam!) intervened. Who intervenes if that comes to power here? Mexico? Canada?

What is the difference between pedestal and plinth?

... the difference between pedestal and plinth is that pedestal is (architecture) the base or foot of a column, statue, vase, lamp, or the like; the part on which an upright work stands while plinth is a block or slab upon which a column, pedestal, statue or other structure is based.

That's a short, confusing explanation.

A much better explanation, with examples:

What's the difference between pedestal and plinth?

Meanwhile yesterday in Chicago, in broad daylight, a 20 month old boy was shot and killed while strapped in his car seat. At 2pm, while his mom was driving home from the laundromat. Some car pulled up next to them and fired 7 or 8 shots into the car.

Last weekend a three year old boy was killed the same way, strapped in a car seat, coming home with his stepdad from the barber shop. Broad daylight.

No statement from BLM as of this writing.

They don’t care. At all. Because if they even pretended to care just a little bit, just to manage the PR side of things, they would issue a statement or something.

Publuc space should be reserved for actual art, not art designed to promote a "message" or point of view (i.e. propaganda).

One of my cousins posted a picture of the statue of Stevie Ray Vaughan in Dallas, which had graffiti painted on it. The turdballs are just vandalizing anything that doesn’t move. And the State is NOT racist! Racism has been illegal in the public square for decades, and most companies are highly desirous of qualified minority employees. There are still individuals who are racist, of course, but racism as public policy is long gone.

After pulling it down, the state is still racist. In other words, NOTHING can ever be enough.

In other words -- per critical race theory -- the entire system, structure, culture is inherently and permanently and irredeemably tainted with white supremacy and always will be. The ENTIRETY of the white structure and culture have criminally benefited from the blood of Black people and they must ALL be divested of their ill-gotten gains, that is, it must all be taken away -- including from the white privileged progressives. And even then, with the white reduced to nothing and Black people holding the reins of power, STILL it will not be enough. White folks still owe 400 YEARS of debt to Black people.

Understand what our nation, our world, is facing here.

I must say I find this comment added to the bottom of the sign at the site of the Heg statue opaque. I do not tolerate such casual racism, and I denounce anyone who defends such use of "racist" as racist.

Tomorrow, let's discuss treating people as individuals.

Yes, the State is still racist.

The State identifies persons by metrics of age, height, weight, and "race." The ill-defined "race" metric is often used as the sole determinant for qualification or exclusion from certain State provided gratuities.

Exactly. This is why diversity (i.e. color judgments) including racism, sexism, etc., is a persistent, resistant condition, despite efforts to mitigate its progress.

Now, Howard, that is just silly. I can take you to some neighborhoods in Chicago where being white is a great big negative, and no white people do much besides leave as fast as they can. I bet you won't feel like you are lording your racism over the locals when I drive off and leave you there.

The ill-defined "race" metric is often used as the sole determinant for qualification or exclusion

Affirmative discrimination was one realization and its progress has normalized a resistant strain of dysfunction. There may be "racial" differences from a genetic perspective (e.g. Her Choice including pathogenic affinities), but the use of racial labels and judgments, including: African-American (i.e. 1/2 American) denies the community identity of people based on color, not character (e.g. principles) judgments. It's a residual legacy from a monotonically divergent era that hoped for change, but woke and sleepy sustained the status quo.

If you believe, really indoctrinated into believing, that all white people are racist - innately so - and think (correctly) that most of the people running the country's institutions, public and private, are white then it logically follows that the country is racist. The country is run by racist people after all.

There is no place compromise, for a reasoned "good faith" exchange, when one side views the other as evil. Read Nikole Hannah-Jones' views on white people.

We've thought for over twenty years that this type of thinking, this world view, was limited to academia, to our universities. Well, it's now here and we're going to have a difficult time dealing with it.

Probably. But Zinn was a Marxist (he said "democratic socialist" but we know what he meant) and viewed America's evils as caused by capitalism not racism (although he thought the US war racist too).

This new group has substituted race for class and argue that all of the problems are due not to capitalism or class division (as Zinn thought) but to white people.

This is why, I think, Sanders had problems attracting this "woke" crowd, the mostly radical white element. Sanders still thinks class divides the country; they think it's race (and to a lesser extend gender, sexual orientation, et cetera).

The racism charge is a blank check. It can used for anything. Sports, art, pancake mix, cartoons, playgrounds....

We've created a generation that looks around the country trying to find racism. It provides a purpose and meaning for their lives. It's a good goal - to eliminate racism - but this is not what's happening. It's now just a power currency used to attack a world they hate.

Rational examination of racism became impossible once we permitted the critical theorists to completely re-define the word Racism a few decades ago to mean "prejudice plus power" and similar formulations. We should have never let that go unchallenged. They had no right to take a meaningful term that was well-understood by everyone and just twist its meaning, overnight. If they wanted to view problems related to race in this totalizing, structural way, they should have invented their own damn term.

Insult to injury, they also didn't generate a new term for what the old term meant. There's no commonly-accepted word to describe the attitudes or behavior of someone who hates or hurts someone based on the victim's race.

But the very idea or concept of a "shared" language or vocabulary, a "shared" humanity is opposed by these groups. They reject the very idea of a common humanity, of a shared experience. For them, everything is about race or gender or some identity. The liberal tradition of "good faith" people coming together to work out problems is rejected by them.

Why? Because those with power are racists (unless they surrender); the liberal tradition consists of instruments or tools, e.g., due process, free speech, used by the white supremacists to maintain power; and since they are victims they don't need to compromise any (certainly not with the people who victimized them), they must be made whole again.

In this view, we simply cannot exclude race or gender or "identity" from any discussion. There's no such thing as a common or shared humanity or experience; it's all about these characteristics. Race and sex and sexual orientation is literally everything.

Read Marx: then just substitute these identifies for class and most of it follows. Whites are the capitalist oppressors and non-whites are the oppressed proletariat.

We need to enforce the law and that means getting rid of Dem Mayors and Council members. Maybe we need to understand also that segregation was a bitter experience and anything that reminds its grandchildren of it, sends a pang through them, a chill. And all their relatives standing nearby feel it with them. That doesn't justify supporting anarchists and their Marxist allies who only can destroy but we need to remember what real people are feeling when we listen to propagandists pretending to be those people and not let real people get crowded out.

Exactly; that's sort of what I was trying to emphasize. We allowed a Marxist-inspired totalitarian movement to take their positions of academic power and abuse that power by replacing commonly understood language with their own preferred terms. Common language that WOULD have allowed us all to engage in useful dialogue. They don't want that.

I think they've been using some Motte and Bailey tactics since then (along with countless other subterfuges) to 1) act as though the radical redefinition of "racism" is widely accepted, and then 2) if specifically asked what, then, is the word to be used instead of racism when, for example, someone is specifically killed because they are white, they act as if there's another perfectly good word for that. Except there isn't one word to convey the horror and stigma that the word "racist" already conveyed; not in their world or in the current woke discourse. If they were honestly working towards ending evil racial things and felt it was necessary to re-define racism to get at its structural nature, they would have shown their good will by establishing a new term to define old-school racist hate at the same time.

We let them appropriate the term "racism" and then also failed to get them to make up a term that shows equal condemnation for harmful racial hate. That enables them to erase human racial hatred and harm from all discourse--unless it comes from white people.

A blind pig finds an acorn! This analysis is in fact correct.

The problem for Howard and his ilk is that as a nation, we are at the most unstable and unsustainable tipping point of the past 150 years. This is not the unrest of the 60's and 70's, nor the turmoil of Great Depression. Something even worse is lurking in the shadows on the dark path ahead of us.

To speak of these things we must use the language of Dick Cheney and Nassim Taleb. It seems likely to me that we have never faced so many potential "Black Swans" and unknown unknowns - the things that are so opaque to us that we don't even know that we don't know them. Tens or twenty years hence, nothing will be the same as it is now. Great swathes of our national fabric will be ripped apart forever.

All of the assumptions and predicates that Howard has mentioned above-- every single one of them-- are not things that can be taken for granted, in my view. Yes, so long as the average man has a job, a family, and a mortgage, obeys the laws, pays his taxes, and takes all the other duties and responsibilities of citizenship seriously, Howard and his friends are safe from us. So long as the law enforcement and justice establishments still exist at all levels, and so long as those organs' unspoken mission remains primarily oriented at protecting criminally infested minority communities and left-wing revolutionaries from vigilante justice, Howard's superficial analysis will remain correct. These things may seem like part of the permanent bedrock of civilization. But that bedrock is much more rotten and unstable than any on the Left suppose, and the edifice built upon it is shaking.

Take those things away, directly or indirectly, and the social compact disappears. Those fat, middle-aged, hyperglycemic white men whom Howard sneers at will then constitute the largest army on the planet. Why do they need PT? They are armed with tens of millions of weapons that can easily penetrate a politician's limousine, or the brain pan of a megaphone-carrying loudmouth at the head of a mob, from a distance of four football fields, and then easily melt back into the crowd. They know how to use these weapons to great effect, having long experience in harvesting human-sized mammals. They have other useful skills, supplies, trades, and training that are totally foreign to the "vibrant" and "diverse" wards of the State in our urban cores. They belong to a high-trust culture that has waned somewhat but is still strong at its core, with a high level of pre-existing organizational frameworks (churches, service clubs, trade unions, etc.). They can work together, communicate, plan and strategize from the bottom up in ways that the top-down leadership of the left-wing revolutionary vanguard can never hope to duplicate among the useless eaters and aspiring rappers of the big blue cities. They know where the power substations and railroad bridges and natural gas pipelines are.

Howard, you are right that you and your friends will not see a hand raised against you in the near term. No one in Red America is going to make the first move. But if the fight is brought to us, you will lose, and when you do, at least 100 years of the "progressive" legacy will be swept away in a few months.
