"[S]ome of the usual tools for organizing students may be of limited use in the coming months if colleges begin the fall semester virtually...."

"... That makes messaging to large groups of students at once trickier, and Democrats are making plans to be as present as possible on the virtual versions of those quads and dorms: 'There are so many campus-based meme pages where you can spread content dedicated to people usually on those campuses,' he said. He cited the University of Wisconsin at Madison as an example: The 'UW-Madison Memes for Milk-Chugging Teens' Facebook group has nearly 28,000 members; the school has around 32,000 undergraduates. Meanwhile, the Biden camp itself has so far been tentative about its digital outreach to young voters, wary of looking like it’s pandering and conscious of the need to target its messaging to relevant media....  Biden himself has stepped only gingerly into such targeted outreach.... Internally, Biden’s senior aides have been vetting possible appearances and content by asking if it will be a chance to focus on the message of decency, empathy, and connection to real people, which they believe are the former VP’s best attributes to communicate online...."

From "Joe Biden Would Like a Word With the Youths" by Gabriel Debenedetti (Intelligencer/NY Magazine).

It's hard to do social media gingerly. If you're careful, it doesn't work. If you're not careful... you're Trump.

serious question

IF students do NOT return to campus this fall, HOW will they be able to vote in two districts?

The Democrats will just go directly to the classes and hijack the class Skypes and Zooms. Virtual online college education will largely be a political ad from August forward.

The Biden campaign seems stuck on the idea that they can win with their old coalition of minorities, gays, suburban women, urban elites, and young people. You know, the ones they lost with last time, with arguably a better candidate. (I never thought I would say that).

Where is the outreach to white males, blue collar workers, small business owners, people of faith, etc?

You know, the ones they try to piss off daily.

Someone's going to ask Biden if he would abolish the cops as they asked Jacob Frey, Mayor of Minneapolis. And Biden's answer will be on easy-spread video. They'll see it in the colleges and they'll see it everywhere else.

Gingerly is best for Biden. Can't draw a clear distinction from Trump on "decency" if you let Mr. Malarkey off his leash to go barking about, calling young women "dog-faced."

My daughter is a student at Arizona State and their brand identity is “innovation.” The Facebook group they all belong to is Number One Memes for Innovative Teens. I guarantee that nothing would get someone banned faster than trying to inject Biden crap into it. That’s so boring and not remotely innovative, literally or in the self-deprecating, charming sense the kids mean it.

Better still would be a six months and one day residency requirement for local and state elections. The youths can apply for absentee ballots for their home residence elections.

Decency, empathy and connection to real people? Old hair nuzzling handsy Joe has connected to a lot of real people--and they didn't like it.

The Democrat strategists figuring out how to sell "Joe" sound like a marketing group at Proctor & Gamble. How are we going to push this sorry product across the finish line and into the White House?

It reminds me of the old New Yorker cartoon (at least I think it was in New Yorker) where the marketing guy explains to his client why the ad campaign didn't work "The dogs don't like the dog food !" Well--think about that fellows. You've got a problem.

Biden and his people are clueless. My kids and their cohort are in their early 30's and so a good bit away from college, they get all their news and information on their devices, mostly phones. Twitter, Instagram, Reddit, Youtube, and then targeted channels. Not the legacy media, even on line versions. They aren't going to sign up for an online event or rally.

"... tools for organizing students..."

That jumped out at me. On the first pass, I tried to read it as tools for students to use to organize things, then as tools for students to use to organize themselves. My brain seems to resist the use of the verb "organizing" as something one does *to* people, instead of with people.

And yet, I guess that's what "community organizers" do, isn't it? Like organized labor and organized crime...

Can you imagine what a massive fund-raising gift the riots will be for the Republican Party?

All the Democrats have to do to win each and every Presidential election is run a continent, normal, moderate without a suitcase full of weirdness and corruption. Dukakis would have handily won every election since 1996.

I also assume the fascist governors are going to lift their lock downs on small businesses.

If they don't, it is almost as if everything they do is calculated to seize power for themselves.

The chatter of narratives are destroying the very costly endeavor of getting an Education.

I think that this has all been played out before. When Pimm and the English Parliament managed to overthrow and eventually behead Charles the First. Pimm was the speaker of Parliament, and he conducted constant investigations where evidence was readily manufactured. He charged the king with “collusion.” Angry mobs of rioters were set on his opponents in Paliament and votes where held when they were in hiding, and when the king’s allies came back and suggested that laws passed under duress were probably not valid, they were charged with treason for suggesting it and imprisoned.

Adam Schiff is not an idiot. I am sure he has read this history. They are playing it out again. I am sure they would behead Trump if they could and there would be a bloodthirsty crowd to cheer loudly at the sight of it. You know what they think when we talk about reason and logic? “OK Boomer.” Why? Because power is what matters to them most of all.

Leftist thinking: Everyone wants what I want, and the only reason we're not getting it is we're unorganized.

Corollary: The few people I meet who don't want what I want are the outliers who are oppressing "everyone".

The bubble in which they live is an essential feature to maintaining the illusion. And it's OK to block other opinions from being expressed because the illusion tells them they're fringe ideas held by those oppressing them.

" A professor at the University of California Los Angeles is on leave after UCLA students launched a campaign to have him fired because he refused to cancel a final exam following George Floyd's death. Thousands signed a petition to have the UCLA professor fired because students didn't like the tone of his email announcing that the final exam would be administered in light of the nationwide protests.

Gordon Klein, a professor of accounting at the Anderson School of Management, was asked by a student if black students would be given special accommodations because of George Floyd's death and the subsequent protests. The student requested a "no-harm and shortened final exam, and extended deadlines for final assignments and projects in consideration of black students' well-being in light of nationwide protests against police brutality," according to the Daily Bruin.

Professor Klein allegedly responded with an email that did not sit well with the students.

"Thanks for your suggestion in your email below that I give black students special treatment, given the tragedy in Minnesota," Klein reportedly said in an email. "Do you know the names of the classmates that are black? How can I identify them since we've been having online classes only? Are there any students that may be of mixed parentage, such as half black-half Asian? What do you suggest I do with respect to them? A full concession or just half?..."

20,000 signatures want him fired. So far, he's suspended for the rest of the semester.

I would think there will be quiet consideration of UCLA Accounting grads.
