Spectacular.

Unless "re envisioned" means augmented electronically.

Say it ain't so!

The great advantage (and disadvantage, in other ways) of the camera is that you know that what you are seeing occurred in front of its lens. It may be a glimpse of a fleeting moment. It may be a stubborn insistence on a reality that challenges the viewer in some way. It may be just one face that declares the individuality of its owner's life.

So the problem with electronically augmenting the image to make it even more spectacular is that you kill the camera's signal strength. Anyone can lie. Turning buttons to change the image reduces it aesthetically, it only appears temporarily to have "improved" on it.

If you want to take reality and reenvision it, paint. Once we know photographic images are false, they become fatally boring. Thus your real pictures of sunrises are arresting, without augmentation. If we can't believe in those, well -- can't anyone produce cool colors and shapes with a photo program?

Russia Secretly Offered Afghan Militants Bounties to Kill U.S. Troops, Intelligence Says

The Trump administration has been deliberating for months about what to do about a stunning intelligence assessment.

Althouse linked to a TikTok video, and defended doing so because the video itself was on Facebook not TikTok. Is this a good defense? I do not think so. We do not apply that standard in similar cases. Here is an extreme one. It is no defense to point out a video of kiddy porn does not actively involve any child at the moment it is watched. The point is that the viewing of it incentivizes the activity.
The same is true of providing clicks for content created on TikTok. The viewing incentivizes the activity.
Now the analogy is unfair in that the level of odiousness is not remotely comparable, but I think it suffices to show the hole in Althouse’s position.

Howard: "Bone Spurs giving aid and comfort to our enemies while ordering military to attack American Citizens."

Unverified leak with no evidence from the NYT and timed to try and keep US troops in Afghanistan.

Its the deep state Intel community version of Jussie Smollett.

Again.

Remember, Howard is so dumb and easily manipulated he still believes Trump paid hookers to pee on a bed in Moscow along with all the stupid breathless "intel" hoaxes pushed over the last 4 years.

Keep in mind, Drago, that Howie is the one who's manipulating, or thinks he is.

Keep in mind, Howie, that going back to maybe *Wilson*, or possibly ever, PDT is the only President who has indulged in the virtuous pleasure of actually, knowingly, intentionally, killing Russians, at the Battle of Khasham: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Khasham

Wiki indulges in the usual mummery, but these first-hand accounts have the ring of truth:

https://www.newsweek.com/total-f-russian-mercenaries-syria-lament-us-strike-killed-dozens-818073

The man explains that American forces used artillery and helicopter gunships to repel the assault. "They were all shelling the holy fuck out of it, and our guys didn't have anything besides the assault rifles…. Nothing at all, I'm not even talking about shoulder-fired SAMs or anything like that…. They tore us to pieces, put us through hell," he says.

The speaker is also critical of the Russian government's response to the incident, saying, "They beat our asses like we were little pieces of shit...but our fucking government will go in reverse now, and nobody will respond or anything and nobody will punish anyone for this."

"My guys just called me, they are sitting there drinking, many are MIA, it's a total fuckup, another humiliation.... Nobody gives a fuck about us."

For me, Howard, the President can dine out on that story for a long time before I take seriously any notion of his kowtowing to the Russians.

Meanwhile, if it's true that Russia is offering pay for scalps, that's interesting. Wonder what fruit it has borne. What would you do in reply? Offer similar bounties in Syria, Chechnya, Donbas? Hire Bolton back to nuke them?

Do what you want but I wish you'd take off the clown nose and talk serious like.

No, Drago. Trump didn't pay for the leaking ladies. Putin paid for the hooker's to give Donald a golden shower.

Long time reader, first time commenter. Your sunrise pics have been terrific to see this year. I'm an early riser and see most sunrises at my location. Some are ordinary and some of them are spectacular. Appreciating your sunrise viewpoint, thank you.

On to better things; Ann, you keep topping yourself with each succeeding sunrise. Dynamic in composition, an ecstatic wash of colors rushing toward the observer. Your manipulation of this image is painterly, the colors luscious. If I understand correctly, you are producing these pictures with a phone camera. This is certainly an excellent example why amateur photographers have stopped lugging around dedicated digital SLRs. Just read that the Olympus brand, after 85 years of production, is abandoning the manufacturing of cameras. The market speaks!

Russia related leak in the NYT. Must be true, it was repeated by Reuters./sarc. BTW, who has Walter Duranty"s old position today?

Nichevo: Since you want to spit-ball, back atcha. You make an Interesting point which gives credibility to the A-stan Russian bounty story, obviously Putin is our enemy and he has previously ordered attacks on Americans, so the bounty is completely in character. The Russian Merc Syria retaliation occurred under sec def Jim Mattis command, so Trump did not have a choice because we all know Mattis would have resigned and embarrassed Old Bone Spurs if he refused to sign the order to retaliate. As you remember, Mattis is very strongly influenced by Beirut 1983 bombing and the lack of retaliation by Reagan. Because the bounty system is more on the down-low, and Esper is a military-industrial complex toad it makes sense Trump thinks he has cover to let Putin get away with it.

As for his dining on stories of bravery, I'm sure Trump appreciates your obeisance.

Oh, I'm prepared to believe it, though apparently since we last bumped on this, your story has gone to shit. But ok, the commies got it in their fool noggins to do a little head-hunting.

Oh, oh, this is the part where you're sticking to your story that PDT is in Putin's pocket. Well, OK, it's a nice story, especially because proof is out of it.

Funny how no other SecDef managed to roll any other President like this, ever. Unless maybe you count McNamara? Or I guess the side of the gang that made Obama pull the trigger on Big Bird in Abbotabad kinda rolled him like you're suggesting. However, BO's spine was stiffened a year later, when he fired anybody who suggested not letting Benghazi happen.

Because the bounty system is more on the down-low, and Esper is a military-industrial complex toad it makes sense Trump thinks he has cover to let Putin get away with it.

So DL that it was never reported up to the PDB. After all, it could be a sea story. So sniffing it out before sending it up the chain doesn't sound THAT dumb.

As for his dining on stories of bravery, I'm sure Trump appreciates your obeisance.

Dude, if you didn't tell stories, nobody would know you were here. Besides, the President has continued to feed the Tree of Liberty, with such growth material as Soleimani's brains, finely diced with the Hellfire Ninja. He laid down the law in Kurdville and since it's gone unreported, all must be well.

So I'm not seeing the problem, unless you don't like discretion and the delicate touch (e.g. not killing 150 Iranians to retaliate for the Global Hawk downing). Bolton doesn't like discretion and the delicate touch. Are you like Bolton?

But what I really wanted to engage with you about, is, let's assume both that the bounty story is true in some way: that Commie Unit 867-5309 is paying for pelts, and that they've had some action; and that PDT is legitimately just now learning of it and has to decide on a response. What is to be done?

Major point: policy. Shall he have the troops remain in Crapistan, to get shivved until the Crapistanis get tired of shivving? Or shall he get us out of there? Is that the Russians' will, or would they rather we stay and use up all the Afghans' munitions getting attacked?

Minor point: revenge. Shall we put out a hit on Unit 123ABC? Or pay for pelts in Syria, Chechnya, Ukraine?

Shall we say "Hey, quit it!" like Obama supposedly did to Putin re election interference?

Shall we go cry to the UN?

Shall we have Jack Reacher or Bobby Lee Swagger go out a .50 cal up Putin's nose?

Should the matter be/have been treated with secrecy, or should WaPo et al be making hay with it?

Isn't this what you decry in the "cuck Right," fuming and threatening violence to no useful end?

What's your play here? What's the big-boy mature-adult-patriot-statesman play here?
