"District of Columbia Mayor Muriel Bowser on Friday had 'Black Lives Matter' painted on the street that leads to the White House..."

"... where protesters have been demonstrating following George Floyd’s death in police custody. 'There was a dispute this week about whose street this is,' John Falcicchio, chief of staff for Bowser, a Democrat, said in a tweet. 'Mayor Bowser wanted to make it abundantly clear that this is DC's street and to honor demonstrators who (were) peacefully protesting on Monday evening.' People were seen painting the words "Black Lives Matter" on Friday morning in large block letters in yellow across 16th street, which leads to Lafayette Square and the White House."

NBC reports.

Video of the painting at the link. The letters are the full width of the street, and the words look like they go on for 3 blocks. It's as big as it can be and still be on the street.

ADDED: I guess the President needs to change his stationery right away...

DC is a mess. If not for the government and all of it's feeders, the area would be unlivable. As is, many of the neighborhoods are unlivable. But this Mayor thinks her battle is with America and America's people apparently. She's not alone. Many of our 'leaders' from both parties have distain for us.

But this one...she's told the National Guard to leave. She's opening her arms to the protestors. She is either (a) naive, or she is (b) complicit. Not just accommodating to BLM protestors. (not that that's wrong). But complicit with Antifa.

A big reason that women finally got the right to vote in the United States is because of the activism led by Alice Paul and Lucy Burns in front of the White House during the presidency of Woodrow Wilson. They infuriated him with the signs and slogans they used during daily pickets in front of the gate he had to drive in and out of.

It was particularly infuriating when a Russian diplomat came to visit and their signage and shouts were about the fact that Russian women had more rights than American women. It was after this that Woodrow Wilson put his foot down and demanded that they be arrested. This led to several months of women being arrested out of the daily pickets and then, once in prison, forcefed. (The forcefeeding is why the main book on this period is called "Iron-Jawed Angels").

Once accounts of the forcefeeding came out in the press, which had previously thought that the votes for women movement was kind of a joke, the tide turned.

The other story involving the DC mayor is her claim that housing troops in DC hotels somehow violates the Third Amendment, which reads:

“No Soldier shall, in time of peace be quartered in any house, without the consent of the Owner, nor in time of war, but in a manner to be prescribed by law.”

For starters, the government is paying the hotels for the rooms being occupied. The hotels are accepting the payments. That's called "consent".

If hotel owners don't want to house the troops and be paid for doing so, that's their right.
But most of them have had little or no business because of the corona lockdown that they would likely risk pissing off their shareholders by turning down revenue for naked polical purposes.

And since when does a mayor have the authority to simply proclaim that the Constitution has been violated, and demand that the federal government step down? How will she enforce this decree?

Better file this story under "Rabid Bowser bites Man."

I'm not sure Mayor Bowser has really thought through the symbolism here. Iran paints American and Israeli flags on floors in doorways and sidewalks in narrow passages to try to force people to walk on them: in the past few years most Iranians have spent extra effort going around them as a small sign of resistance. Saddam's Iraq did the same thing. Painting slogans where people will walk on them seems to show some disrespect for the slogans - perhaps subconscious disrespect, in Bowser's case.

By the way, as someone who loves puns and will sink to almost any level to make one, I am showing incredible self-restraint here not joking about her name. On the other hand, joking on 'Bowser' would be like shooting fish in a barrel.

Back to the first hand, have any of you ever shot fish in a barrel or beaten a dead horse? Perhaps "don't knock it if you haven't tried it" works there: either or both may (for all I know) be quite enjoyable.

The leftist leadership don't want to solve problems. They want to destroy. Look up Cloward-Piven strategy. They want to destroy America and her institutions. Purportedly so that they can rebuild them and make America better; but that's just the bullshit they sell to the useful-idiots. What they really want is unopposable power.

For the useful-idiot follower, acting like they care about the underprivileged gives meaning to their lives and makes them feel good. They don't have to think or act except to virtue-signal. They proclaim themselves the "decent" people, but their true selves get revealed when they are forced to debate those who dare oppose them; then their hatred, biogtry and racism is exposed.

The one true talent of leftists is creating victims. Victims are needed for their bleeding hearts to cry over. Innocent black people and poor people will die as leftists encourage rioting by self-righteously pushing a movement to defund the police.

For those who crave power, divide and conquer is a useful strategy. The ruling-class, which today is made up largely of leftists, is terrified at the thought of a united populace. They will use identity politics to pit us against each for as long as we allow it.

Bowser has not been so hot on crime - as per Wikipedia:

During her first year as mayor, the district saw a 40% increase in homicides.[81] Bowser sought to address the spike by proposing legislation allowing law enforcement officials to perform warrantless searches of violent ex-offenders. The bill was widely opposed by citizen's groups and the D.C. Council, and did not pass.[81]

In 2016, District homicides fell by 17%, to 135,[82] and dropped again in 2017 to 116, or about the same level prior to a 2015 spike.[83][84] There were 160 homicides in 2018, an increase of 40 percent from the previous year and the most since 2015.[85][86] Murders continued to rise in 2019, and by September 19, the homicide rate in the District reached 125, a 17 percent increase from the previous year.[87]

The Bailey? If you agree that black lives matter, you agree that in this country, and through its systems, black lives are currently considered not to matter by a consequential mass of people. (To say that all lives matter, though "all" might seem to include "black," is therefore an act of denial, and tells us who you are.) Now support these reforms, and vote for these politicians. Otherwise, you obviously don't think black lives matter.

I am 100% convinced that this whole protest/riot is the democrats answer to Trump's lowest black unemployment ever pitch.

The protesters are being let loose in democratic controlled cites. Mayors are transferring police funds to "black representative groups" (i.e. Democrat party adjuncts). Panels considering reparations for slavery are being formed. The boogie man of racism everywhere rises to the top of the black sub-conscience. Oh, and yes, some stores will be open with "free" merchandise.

Trump offered and delivered jobs, Trump offered and delivered criminal justice reform. The democrats are worried about losing their grip on the black vote. What can they offer? Cash to their immediate supporters from the police funds, promises they can't keep hidden in panels, a chance to loot some sweet gear, and a opportunity to feel oppressed so nothing is your own fault.

From what I've seen talking to the people at the check out stands, they are now losing the middle class voter. They also deserve to lose the blacks who have had more opportunity under Trump then they did under any president before him.

Just goes to show that home rule was a mistake for DC. The proper solution is keep the Federal District under Federal control

The whole purpose of the federal district was to ensure that the seat of the national government could protect itself and not be at the mercy of independent state/local authority.

When we speak of "our nation's capital," we do not simply mean the grounds of the Executive Mansion and offices, the Capitol and offices, the Supreme Court, and the various buildings for federal departments and agencies. We mean the entirety of the District. Not only the National Mall too -- and it is the NATIONAL Mall, not the District of Columbia Mall -- but the entire territory, which is purposely meant to be an extended security perimeter for the national government.

This past week has proven the necessity for the federal district to remain under the ultimate jurisdiction of the federal government. If local residents do not like that, just as they have voluntarily decided to keep living there knowing of this reality, they are free to go move to Prince George's or Montgomery County.

Meanwhile, there is a whole lot of economic racial inequity East of the River. Mayor Bowser should be looking in the mirror at her own contributions to the detriment of the black community in Wards 7 and 8 especially. Her embrace of the developers and white progressive hipsters coming in to gentrify the area and push up the cost of living and push out black families who have lived in the city for generations is part of the problem.

Crusaders' professed beliefs ignore the unintended consequences because the crusading spirit make effects on others less important than the self-exaltation of the crusaders. Lots of people's lives have been ruined by bad or brutal policing; lots of people's lives are being ruined by the looting. Ignoring the lives ruined by one and not the other lets one avoid having honest, hard conversations in place of glib, easy ones. It is easy and glib to say "RACISM BAD; BAD COPS, DON'T ABUSE PEOPLE." Everyone agrees; even Trump was on board arresting the officers who killed George Floyd. There's no 'wokeness' in this; even the most white supremacist imagined by people on the left, President Trump, wanted justice for Floyd.

We should still talk about and face head-on the problems we have with policing, but we can't just ignore the ugly side of the looting because it complicates the simple conversation we want to have. We're all adults; we can have hard conversations.

We don’t all know that, actually. You appear to assume that he’s simply copying the playbook of smearing that you eagerly adopted and endlessly repeated after Charlottesville.

But that’s simply a reflection of your - like many Democrats’ - need to assume the worst of those they choose to hate, whether that was African Americans in the past or conservatives at present. It has nothing to do with reality.

There is you and there is me. But there ain't no we Kemosabe. The most important lives that matter to me is that of my family, friends and and me. Yours, for me, not so much, no matter what your race, religion, ethnicity, gender, orientation or political views.

So far there are at least 11 dead, only one or two are known to not be black. There are one or two more who have not been identified. The left media won't focus on these deaths because doing so would highlight the cost of rioting while for political reasons the media needs their supporters to treat riots like kids egging houses.

Priorities you know. Obviously beating Trump takes priority over a few dead.

What may be interesting is that there is supposed to be a million man BLM rally this weekend in front of the WH. They are supposedly demanding that the fence in front of the WH be taken down so that they can get to the People's House. I don’t see it working, but they would have the numbers to make it really bloody. But I think that would be the goal - enough fatalities that they could portray Trump as a butcher. They must know that the first contingency plan is likely use of crew served automatic weapons, that have been embedded there since probably at least WW II. I know that I wouldn’t want to try attacking multiple embedded Ma Deuces with interlocking fields of fire. Plus dozens of well protected medium MGs, etc. I will have to see it to believe it. I have to think that the purpose of a stunt like that would be the generate hundreds, if not thousands, of martyrs to their cause.

Poll: Two-Thirds Think Trump Made Racial Tensions Worse After Floyd Was Killed. Marist Poll.

“Overall, 67% said Trump has mostly increased racial tensions, including 92% of Democrats, 73% of independents, 88% of Africans Americans and 63% of whites.

Just 18% said he has decreased tensions, including 41% of Republicans. In fact, almost 6 in 10 Republicans believe he has either increased tensions (29%) or are not sure (30%). That's a finding the pollsters see as significant given how in lockstep Republicans have been with Trump on nearly everything.

"It's very unusual to see Republicans break when the name Trump is presented, but that is the case here," said Lee Miringoff, director of the Marist Institute for Public Opinion, which conducted the poll.

By 62% to 28%, Americans view the demonstrations happening across the country as mostly legitimate protests rather than mostly people acting unlawfully. They view the demonstrations more as "protests" rather than "riots," 61% to 31%.

And while a majority still have at least a "fair amount" of confidence in police in their community to treat black and white people equally, it's down 8 points from a Marist poll in 2014.

There are, predictably, divides along party and racial lines. When it comes to whether the protests are legitimate as opposed to people acting unlawfully, 87% of Democrats and 65% of independents say they're legitimate, while 59% of Republicans view them unlawful behavior.

Sixty-three percent say they have either a great deal (35%) or a fair amount (28%) of confidence in the police, but that's down from 71% from the poll in 2014, the same year that saw the deaths of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo., and Eric Garner in New York.”

The Blue cities and states are going to go up in flames while the rest of us get on with our lives. Has anyone noticed the real estate buying frenzy outside New York City ? Houses that have been on the market for years are being snapped up by NYC refugees.

Just the other day Inga was asserting Trump was cowering in the WH bunker...while simultaneously complaing about Trump walking across Lafayette Square! It never even occurred to her that she was contradicting herself.

She mentioned Trump in the bunker again today! And where was Trump? At a public bill signing with a press conference followed by an open discussion with Maine fishing interests!

Inga likes polls. How about this one?

“Black Americans are one of the Democratic Party’s most loyal voting blocs, and President Trump won just 8% of black voters in 2016, according to exit polls. Mr. Biden is expected to easily win the demographic in November. But if the 2020 presidential election is as close as the 2016 vote, some Democrats say losing even a small number of black men to Mr. Trump—or seeing more of them stay home on Election Day—could hamper Mr. Biden’s White House chances.”

Well, objectively, Trump has done more for blacks in four years than Democrats have done in 40. For all the talk this week, his criminal-justice reforms dwarf anything the Democrats have even attempted, and ctually undo some “tough” criminal laws pioneered by . . . Joe Biden.

Then there is this on Twitter.

Overall Likely Voter (LV) job approval of

Indy Voter LV app - 45%

Dem LV app of - 23%

Black LV Strong app of - 25%

Overall Black LV app of - 41%

Other Non-White LV app - 43%

I read in the news that there will be a gathering of Black Live Matters supporters in DC today. I also read somewhere that Black Lives Matters has received donations from major foundations.

I did a little reading on the web to, you know, follow the money. I didn't find much right away. At blacklivesmatters.com you can shop in their store or donate money. The agency which collects on their behalf is Actblue Charities, registered in several states. In my quick search I did not find out how much money Actblue sends to Black Lives Matters. At actblue.com they say they have raised $5 billion since 2004, and a ticker shows that the total rises by about $1000 every 5 seconds.

At Guidestar.org I found the 990 tax form filed by Actblue Charities for 2017, the lastest year available. The form shows 14 people with compensation over $100,000. The Executive Director's compensation is about $300,000.

So my conclusion is that there is a financial incentive for somebody to influence people that there is a problem to be solved through Actblue Charities and the Black Lives Matters organization.

I would like to seriously propose that we commenters adopt the Cedarford Protocol for Inga.

The main part of the protocol is to simply ignore her. Don't respond; let her post nonsense after nonsense if she likes, and if you can't handle skipping over the words then install killfile for chrome which will hide the content of each of her comments.

The second part of the protocol is, early after her first post that contains something objectionable, one person -- and one only -- should make a brief and pointed objection, so that anyone reading here for the first time won't confuse silence with consent.

Eventually, if her nonsense generates almost zero replies, her paymasters will insist she go elsewhere to her her keep.
