That photo was taken at 5:19 this morning — the 6th of the 10 days with a 5:17 actual sunrise, the earliest sunrises of the year.

Here's how it looked — at my secondary vantage point — at 5 a.m.:

Since I have been in a prophetic mood lately -

Obama and his wife will stay together the rest of their life, in a happy relationship.
50 years from now, nobody will publicly admit that they admire any President of our lifetimes, except Reagan and Trump.
Abortion will be limited, among women, to a professional caste of prostitutes who signed up before they got pregnant, and not a single MTF transexual will ever request an abortion.
The world will not end, and many many people who felt like they were young in 2020 will still feel young in 2060.

I will be long forgotten, and nobody will visit my grave.

and if they do, they will get to meet the renegade angel who was supposed to be my guardian angel but who found something more important to do when I was a baby, before I could talk. But they won't. But if someone did, that someone would learn that we were pals, that renegade angel and me. But that someone never existed and never will, so there's that. That being said, I long ago forgave that poor renegade angel. It is no small thing to be a friend to a creature who never had a friend in this world, I can tell you that (as can the poor little renegade).

I had a bike tire flat owing to Facebook a week ago; their construction of a new site around here for some reason has left nails on the road shoulder.

So I patched that and it went flat again today, owing to the nail hole having damaged the cord and the tube eventually rubbed another hole in itself against the road.

That's two patches in a week in rural Ohio, a record not encountered since I commuted in northern NJ along route 10, which is constructed largely with bits of wire and broken glass.

While I was at it, when I got home, I swapped not only the outer tire but also some worn out disc brake pads, my last set on hand. They apparently don't make them anymore so I'm not sure what will happen next time. It's a shame to spring for another bicycle after only 20 years.

I have been pondering on sunsong's quote from Mathew Dowd, regarding the ability of Germans to operate a fairly robust nation without benefit of public displays celebrating the NAZIs.

I am afraid they are right. If we, as a nation, the USA, are going to expect, and indeed demand, that blacks consider themselves equally fortunate and equally obligate members of the USA, it is not unreasonable that they should expect us, as a nation, to refrain from glorifying those who fought a war to ensure the subjugation of their race. Why should a black woman pay taxes to a nation that will use them to maintain a statue of a man who fought a war to ensure that she would be a slave? Why should she be proud when her son joins the military forces of that nation?

Hey since we are talking almost in real time - let me say one more thing ---

Absolutely nobody who has tried to insult me on these blogwebs has succeeded.
There is a line in the Book of Proverbs about how it is better to argue than to flatter.

Well, whoever wrote the Book of Proverbs said it better than I can say, but if you are reading this, and if you recognize me as someone you argued with - well God bless you, your guardian angel is without doubt a friend of my patron saint (I never had a guardian angel since I was a baby and my patron saint is Saint Michael the Archangel). God loves you for your sincere efforts to instruct me (if they were sincere).

And no, I am not a prophet, and no, I do not have a very high opinion of myself.

I just like communicating with people.

I am much better with dogs than I am with people, but I try my best with humans.

Trust me, you have never seen charisma in action the way you would see it if you saw how I communicate with dogs (and cats, and ferrets, and crows and cockroaches, and so on.... ).

None of that makes me all that happy, though, the only thing that makes me happy is knowing that some of you know that the only thing I am afraid of is some one of you might die and not go to Heaven.

Please, please, my friends, reflect on how much God loves you.

Don't worry about me. Nobody ever has, to tell the truth, and you don't want to be the first. Trust me on that. Think of your elderly relatives, and remember me.

Some, select, Black Lives Matter. So Pro-Choice. #BabyLivesMatter

In other news, Trump has confirmed what we all suspected, that there are two sexes: male and female, and two sex-correlated genders (i.e. physical and mental attributes): masculine and feminine, respectively, and a transgender spectrum, represented by a "Rainbow" exclusive of the colors black and brown, and featuring the shredded remains of white.

Also, CBS is celebrating a feminist schism with the progress of diversity and exclusion. No longer is it man vs woman, but NOW it is woman vs woman divided into diversity blocs. Daniel Lewis Lee, a member of a white supremacist group, murdered a family of three, including an eight-year-old girl. After robbing and shooting the victims with a stun gun, Lee covered their heads with plastic bags, sealed the bags with duct tape, weighed down each victim with rocks, and threw the family of three into the Illinois bayou. On May 4, 1999, a jury in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Arkansas found Lee guilty of numerous offenses, including three counts of murder in aid of racketeering, and he was sentenced to death. Lee’s execution is scheduled to occur on July 13, 2020.
Wesley Ira Purkey violently raped and murdered a 16-year-old girl, and then dismembered, burned, and dumped the young girl’s body in a septic pond. He also was convicted in state court for using a claw hammer to bludgeon to death an 80-year-old woman who suffered from polio and walked with a cane. On November 5, 2003, a jury in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri found Purkey guilty of kidnapping a child resulting in the child’s death, and he was sentenced to death. Purkey’s execution is scheduled to occur on July 15, 2020.
Dustin Lee Honken shot and killed five people — two men who planned to testify against him, and a single, working mother and her ten-year-old and six-year-old daughters. On October 14, 2004, a jury in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Iowa found Honken guilty of numerous offenses, including five counts of murder during the course of a continuing criminal enterprise, and he was sentenced to death. Honken’s execution is scheduled to occur on July 17, 2020.
Keith Dwayne Nelson kidnapped a 10-year-old girl rollerblading in front of her home, and in a forest behind a church, raped her and strangled her to death with a wire. On October 25, 2001, Nelson pled guilty in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri to the kidnapping and unlawful interstate transportation of a child for the purpose of sexual abuse which resulted in death, and he was sentenced to death. Nelson’s execution is scheduled to occur on August 28, 2020.

There's a kind of reverse cancel. It happened to Hamilton and now Grant. They have both been post-posthumously validated and put on the Pantheon. Good for Chernow. He's restored the reputation of two great Americans.....Grant was treated poorly by posterity for his mistakes while President but, on the plus side, he had a sweet ride immediately after his presidency. He took a long trip around the world. The government frequently supplied the transport, and kings and emperors went out of their way to entertain him. He stayed as a guest at the King of Siam's palace. I don't suppose he got any concubine action, but the food was probably good. Chernow doesn't mention any philandering on Grant's part. Liquor and gullibility appeared to be Grant's only vices....Anyway, I wouldn't mind if posterity treated me badly if I got to be entertained by kings and emperors during my time on earth.

Onate was an interesting fellow. He was descended from both Cortes and Montezuma on his mothers side, so ethnically he was a Mexican mestizo of the second generation - ever. He was a Mexican in other words.

He was also descended from the highest and most ancient Spanish nobility, the Haro family, the ancient Lords of Vizcaya, one of the Basque clans that migrated south in the dark ages and founded the Kingdom of Castile, and forgot Basque along the way. They are a perpetual item in medieval Spanish history and the reconquista, its dynastic wars and rebellions. He was Spain itself in other words, the whole history of it, plus also its empire.

He was quite as daring as Cortes, departing the limits of the known world and marching forth into lands never seen before by a European. It was just his bad luck that there was no rich civilization in Kansas and Oklahoma to pillage and take over.

He was therefore my homeboy, and hence both cruel and glorious. I resent the disrespect given to our magnificent warrior chief.
