I'm interested in "The 10 Senate seats most likely to flip," but come on!

You're going to show these people in masks when it's not any sort of event or personal appearance. You just need a headshot, and you show them in a mask?! That silliness is at The Hill.

The mask look must make very different impressions on different people. To me, it's utilitarian, to be worn when needed but generally a bad look. I want to see faces. But I think there are a lot of people who want to see the covering up.

Why is The Hill showing 2 Senators in masks and one without? There isn't a caption, and I have no idea who any of them are. I'm just going to guess that the guy without a mask is a Republican and the 2 with masks are Democrats.

Since the 2 with masks are a female and a male, I'm getting the the ridiculous impression that there's a male and a female way of wearing a mask. The male is staunch, staring forward, ever forward, into the future. The female tilts her head downward and peeks out over the edge of a silky, fluttery scarf.

Good assumption but if you really want to play the odds they're all Republicans because The Hill wants to help see 10 Republican seats flip.

Well I can tell by her eyes and AZ flag mask that Martha McSally is the female featured. She’s running against a guy who China has invested a lot of money in, along with public money given to his company. I’m sure the press will cover that fairly.

Don't be a fuckhead and vote Democrat.

Nostradamus said that in a quatrain. Why take the chance?

The one without a mask is what's-his-face, the Democratic senator from Alabama who got a fool's mate having Roy Moore as his general election opponent.

Didn't Wally used to tell the Beaver "dad's gonna flip" or "jump on the roof"?

"Wally, I don't like you using words like 'flip' and 'ape'."

Signature show elements: Slang
Ward and June disapprove. Wally uses "sweat" to his mother's annoyance; she prefers "perspiration" and asks him not to use the slang words "flip" or "ape".

The third person is Cory Gardner, incumbent Republican Senator from Colorado.

So, you guessed wrong, the one without a mask is a Dem, the two with masks are Republicans.

Doug Jones. There is no way he is going to win. Either Tommy Tuberville or Jeff Sessions is going to replace him. And at this point it looks like its going to be Tuberville.

I assume the Hill is simply virtue-signalling here: trying to normalize masks and being so, so cool about it by not even mentioning the presence of the masks.

The man with a mask is Senator Cory Gardner, R-Colorado.

Mask wearing is silly. Get back to your footloose and fancy free lifestyle. Get close to everyone because herd immunity don't happen all by itself. Do it for Donald.

Masked faces in every staged or news photo: that’s what you get when you feed mass hysteria and faddish thinking. That’s what you get when you insist everyone change how they think, behave, and relate to others or they are Bad People.

Some tried to push against this corona bullshit embedding itself into every bit of public life and redefining public virtue. Some other people told them they were insufficiently compassionate. Maybe the first group had more insight into where this was going. Just a hunch.

No wonder the media is so intent on people wearing masks, and shaming those that don't... perfect way to hide who's who and who says what. If only no one could tell that it was Joe Biden who said "you ain't black!"

JBeuks said...

In fact, the one without a mask is Doug Jones (D-Ala) and the two with masks are both Republicans — Martha McSally of Ariz and (I think) Corey Gardiner of Colo. There’s plenty of media bias out there without Ann’s carelessly imagining more of it.

Kelly is running lots of TV ads in AZ with no mention of his party. His money comes from California and China.

Gabby Gifford’s husband. Former astronaut. And last I knew, with the biggest war chest in the country. Without the money, I don’t think that he would be doing that well. McSally was beaten by Sinema and her funding advantage two years ago. Their guy has a bigger funding edge.

It’s actually fairly easy to turn people against him in AZ. Just show that he is married to rabid gun grabber Gifford, @nd has long supported her. Except that McSally isn’t going there.

Mask discrimination!! Is this a Title VII violation or a Title VII of a Title II?

Do we need to extend Greggs vs Duke Power to the wearing of masks?

Can only blacks be allowed to wear black masks?

Does using the phrase "black masks" a copy write violation?

Last election I sent money to McSally’s campaign and was “rewarded” by receiving a piece of campaign literature from her earlier this year. It is the worst piece of campaign literature I have ever seen, and I have been politically active for more than forty years. She’d be hopeless if it weren’t for Kelly’s outspoken support for gun grabbing. Gun owners throughout the United States have seen what passes for “common sense” gun regulations when Democrats took over both the House of Delegates and Senate here in Virginia. The NRA needs to make sure that Kelly gets no votes from gun owners.

If James can successfully tie Peters to Whitmer then he will win in a walkover. It will be nice to have as many black Republican senators as the Democrats.

Bullock worries me. He is almost alone among Democrat governors in not using the coronavirus to go full Adolph Hitler.

Loeffler will probably lose the primary. Liberals like Althouse may be very accepting of political corruption, as evidenced by her vote for Hillary Clinton, but conservatives not so much.

In Alabama, Jeff Sessions could give Doug Jones a full term.

The three photos part of a video stream of 10 stills. Senators from both parties with and without masks. A way to make the story more interesting to a national audience that could not pick most of them out of a line-up.

The mask look causes me to lose all respect. It's just silly most of the time. In most pubic performances, it's done out of spinless conformity like a lot of other consultant-based bullshit. I can't respect that in a leader, especially knowing that the thing is taken off as soon as the coast is clear.

A lot of people are going to have a hard time regaining my respect after this. I saw many people abandon reason and principle out of unfounded fear or need to control others, and those are things that leave me unable to trust people. It was a test, and a lot of people failed, mostly becuase they had never really been tested before, but now we know what they will do under stress, and it ain't pretty.

McSally is a real weakling. I voted for her against Sinema and will vote for her against Kelly, but she is the most uninspiring candidate I have seen in a long time.

Kelly is remarkably ugly. That might help McSally.

You know, her entire credential was/is being an A-10 pilot, right? Thing is, she couldn't have been that good at it. Just not aggressive enough. Every time I see her she's losing, or else having something handed to her, like her Senate seat, which she will lose, because she's doing nothing to win. Maybe politics isn't for her. Too bad she's occupying space a winner could have used. Well, this Kelly will put her out of her misery. She was NT anyway.

Yesterday no state had triple digit deaths. NY led with only 79. Most states have opened up, some have for over a month now. 12 states even opened casinos (although not NV, since our governor is a Dem.)

I'm sure immunity has nothing to do with it. The virus probably just got bored or lazy. Maybe talk of a cure or vaccine scared it into hiding.

Masculine, feminine, precautionary.

bagoh20 said...

The deaths from Covid for the entire world are now at levels NY used to have by itself.

Birkel said...

Imagine taunting people for not doing a thing that will cause more harm than doing nothing. Democratics want you to wear masks despite their inability to stop viruses.

And the viruses aren't that deadly in any case. Wash your shoes!! 11 million dead!! Eleventyseven!!

Virginia is going to see an amazing Republican turnout. The anger is boiling below and above the surface. The gun issue will be nationalized. The China issue will be nationalized. Trump will have long coattails. The Democratics have a good geography about to be overwhelmed by issues. The MSM has lost its ability to move the needle.

Gun grabbing and this ad Mark Kelly did for Chinese supplements should be run on a loop from now until November.

Seriously, watch this ad. It's embarrassing. (Hope I did the HTML tag right. I can't check my work in moderation. Sorry if it's a mess.)

Michael K said...

Every time I see her she's losing,

In 2018, I maxed out donating to Martha. She was a good Congresswomen for CD 2 in AZ but her campaign in 2018 was a mess. I don't know who is running it but I hope it better this time. In 2018, she did not debate Sinema, a lesbian bisexual in a red state. Martha had some good points besides the pilot thing. She refused to wear a burkha off base in Saudi and got that rule changed.

Kelly is running on CA and China money and his ads don't mention his party. He has no qualifications.

Mask-wearing is fashionable virtue-signaling. It will go away as more Chinese Virus facts become available -- if the MSM publishes them since they are embarrassing to Progressives and Democrats.

Does Elizabeth Warren wear her mask in the male way or the female way?

Does she want to hide those high Cherokee cheekbones or show them off to the world?

Big Mike said...

@bagoh20, stop being an asshole. I share your view that masks are a mix of virtue signaling and theater, but sometimes you obey the regulations because It doesn’t hurt anything, and it’s no biggie.

Dave D said...

"Michigan could flip."

I still don't understand how James did NOT beat Granny Stabenow last time. Peters is the tougher candidate, IMO, but both do literally nothing but vote how they are told.....

Big Mike said...

@Dave D, one wonders how much Whitmer has poisoned the Democrat brand.

bagoh20 said...

" but sometimes you obey the regulations because It doesn’t hurt anything, and it’s no biggie."

So you haven't seen people getting chased out of stores for not wearing one, or told they are killing people. Or having the cops called on them, and some have been beaten and arrested. No biggie, right? Where is the line between what we all must accept as a biggie and not a biggie?

Using something that is not a biggie as a weapon is what you get with this kind of thing, so it better be damned certain to be worth it. Masks are not worth it.

So who is really the asshole, the one demanding you do something for show, and punishing you if you don't, or the one saying, no, I'd rather not?

bagoh20 said...

BTW, the girl in the video apologized and it seems sincere. I think she should be forgiven unless the guy wants to press charges. Calling the cops was a very dangerous move.

Big Mike said...

@bahoh20, do I correctly gather that you are prepared to go mask-free for the sheer fun of resisting? Be my guest. I got over empty gestures for the sake of political theater in 1968.
