Flags I saw: American, Gadsden, Trump, and pirate.

Alternate universe: CA Governor Newsom, displaying an obvious pink eye, makes a major announcement today. No, there is no plan for lifting stay at home orders or plans to reopen the economy. Instead he's building a huge bureaucracy to provide meals for special qualifying seniors. Restaurants will prepare and deliver three healthy meals a day to hundreds of thousands of vulnerable seniors, budgeted at $16/breakfast, $17/lunch/$28dinner. Mindboggling. Don't worry, FEMA will cover it. I can't even imagine the boondoggle of local governments picking restaurants and designing low sodium menus. He's also partnering with United Airlines call center employees to have a call in support line, offering wellness check-ins and emotional support.

He's obviously not planning on opening the state anytime. It will take months to get this set up and running. Oh god!

You don't have to be super smart to know that if you wear a mask and hock up a green one full of crono death it won't get as far as it would without the mask. Droplets full of virus are not the same diameter as the virus.

Is there nothing he won't do to sell that hydroxychloroquine he has ?

The University of Washington School of Medicine is looking for people who have tested positive for COVID-19 to participate in a clinical trial aimed at finding out whether a controversial antimalarial drug called hydroxychloroquine can keep them from having to be hospitalized.

Word of UW Medicine’s clinical trial comes after reports about a study at Veterans Health Administration medical centers in which COVID-19 patients who took hydroxychloroquine died at higher rates than those who didn’t take the drug.

Today, the Food and Drug Administration warned that hydroxychloroquine carries “known risks” of potentially deadly heart complications — and said the drug should be used in supervised settings such as clinical trials, where the risks can be better studied and mitigated.

Yeah that VA study should be the last word, alright.

Who cares about those patients that took it and got well?

This is feeling like a replay-on-steroids of the AIDS scare in the mid-1980s.

Note: I am NOT saying AIDS wasn't/isn't a horrible thing: I am saying that -- in its early years people were in a state of absolute panic. The fears of contagion by the slightest touch, by shared air, by saliva or tears, by mosquitos etc etc -- most everyone was convinced that it was just around the corner, waiting for them.

As a timeline reference from Wiki:

"1986: January 14, "one million Americans have already been infected with the virus and that this number will jump to at least 2 million or 3 million within 5 to 10 years..." – NIAID Director Anthony Fauci, New York Times.[53]

(-- then --)

1997: September 2, The Washington Post carries an article stating, "The most recent estimate of the number of Americans infected (with HIV), 750,000, is only half the total that government officials used to cite over a decade ago, at a time when experts believed that as many as 1.5 million people carried the virus..."

As everything in our new modern world, the cycle is being heavily compressed: we are already watching the predicted death expectations drop, as the arguments of transmission get more and more pointed.

My point is: if you are going to be within six feet of someone, wear a condom, people.

The goal is to undermine President Trump and prevent his re-election.

Even granting you all the absurdities of your premise, this would be the most counterproductive plan imaginable. The economic dislocations in China alone will be more consequential than anything Trump could have done. There will also be effects in China from the dislocations in other countries which China relies on to purchase their goods. There has been a huge international backlash to China's handling of the virus, and it has spurred people to reconsider supply chains and look to begin removing from China.

The panic you say was engineered by the Democrats doesn't explain the fact that Taiwan took early and aggressive measures to stop it nor does it explain the reactions from every other country in the world that is experiencing an outbreak. The information we do have about the early reactions in China wouldn't make any sense if your thesis was correct.

You're the mirror image of Trump Derangement Syndrome.

I'm starting to believe that as well. Back in Jan something went around the office where I work here in MD. Several people were sick for over a week. My sister, who also works there, was sick with flu like symptoms on and off for about 2-3 weeks. I got a mild sore throat that lasted a day and a mild lung infection with a slight cough that lasted about two weeks, but I didn't get any fever or body aches like my sister. (I take an inhaled steroid for asthma so maybe that helped keep my symptoms mild? ) Who knows, maybe it was covid-19. I hope we can get tested soon.

Laslo: "in its early years people were in a state of absolute panic. The fears of contagion by the slightest touch, by shared air, by saliva or tears, by mosquitos etc etc

Well, the alarmists of those days were in a state of fabricated panic, with fear deliberate created to deflect attention from the actual unpleasant causes of the epidemic.

"1986: January 14, "one million Americans have already been infected with the virus and that this number will jump to at least 2 million or 3 million within 5 to 10 years..." – NIAID Director Anthony Fauci, New York Times.

Hey, where have I head that name before? At what point has an expert been sufficiently wrong that his judgment is not be trusted again? At any point?

"1997: September 2, The Washington Post carries an article stating, "The most recent estimate of the number of Americans infected (with HIV), 750,000, is only half the total that government officials used to cite over a decade ago"

You mean, they did the downward adjustment game in those days as well? Like, first they predict doom, and then they backtrack?

Next, you're going to tell me that it turned out that AIDS, far from being a general threat, actually only presented a serious risk to very specific groups doing very specific things. You aren't implying, are you, that data were being manipulated for political effect? And that -- that we are now witnessing a witless replay of the same farce?

This goes even beyond Karl Marx's imagining. If history was farce in the first place, it repeats as -- what?

“And I’m confident if you do your part, we will commit to doing our part to taking your good work and bringing into a health frame and a public safety frame, and that will help me help move this cause forward beginning to loosen the stay-at-home orders and get this economy back up and you back to work into whatever semblance of normalcy the new normal will provide over the course of the next few months, as we all look forward to the moment where we have herd immunity or a vaccine.”

Lets just admit it. Some people in here wish these people to get sick or even die. I mean if you could have your way and nobody would know , would you have none of these people getting sick? I know I would. It would mean extremely good things for us all, but would you choose that?

I wonder how many of these freedom fighters will develop COVID-19?

Very few, if any. And they made that choice willingly. That’s what freedom is (living in NYC, I can see why you have no idea about that concept).

Subways, cruise ships, aircraft carriers. Every passenger is dead from the virus. So are the immediate families and all the neighbors.

Because the virus is most contagious thing ever.

That's because all the models were predicting 11 million Americans would lose at least one leg.

They have now predicting 10,000 loss of both legs. In Madison, Wisconsin.

When only 3 people actually lose a leg, they will claim vindication.
10,000 will join 11 million on the ash heap of statistics.

@Inga, I stand corrected. The person on the left, wearing black, appears to have an AR platform while the person in camo has an AK platform, probably an AK-47.

The joke gets turned back on me.

All that talk about sewing masks so she could pass herself off as a decent human being was phoney. Of course.

The mask has slipped - as it always does with her. What a ghoul.

I actually think those are great ideas and will make it easier to open up the state. Protect and hide away the most vulnerable.

Inga, sorry to disappoint you because I know you're rooting for the death of deplorables, but most of the elderly dying of this are in very blue areas - NYC, NJ, and here in Wisconsin, in Milwaukee and Madison.

It's highly doubtful that they are predominately Trump voters or Republicans.

The red areas of states are doing much better - but still have to follow the same stupid and arbitrary restrictions.

If this disease attacked mainly people in rural areas, do you think NYC would be shut down? Don't make me laugh. And you and the other leftists would be laughing about the rednecks dying off.

I don't think Michigan saw a spike in cases from the protests.

It would be great if the protesters don't get sick. That would mean it might be safe for Wisconsin to start opening up.
Here in Michigan, we are once again allowed to buy seeds and paint.

They're far safer than people in nursing homes in NY, where residents who have tested positive for the virus are being readmitted. I think they're also safer than healthcare workers in NYC who have to ride crowded subways and share the trains with homeless people.

I imagine most of those New Yorkers vote Dem. But, unlike you, I'm not rooting for those people to die and making snide comments about their appearance and health.

In fact new cases increased in Michigan, after having been in decline. Might just be fluctuations, but MayBee's assertion is baseless.

I'm not taking about verbal bullshit and harmless insults. I'm addressing people's real feelings and preferences, and how far they might go just to be right about this, or to see authoritarianism win, "for the greater good".

I'd love to be right too, but that would mean we are safe AND free, and not simply obeying, hiding, and waiting either to die, or for the government to save us. I don't see any of those things as positive.

The latest advisory from Wuhan is 4 m, and, if you subscribe to the precautionary principle (a la [catastrophic] [anthropogenic] climate cooling... warming... change), then you should probably double that distance. And, yes, full body condom, especially if there is social interaction through the anal sphincter. There is good cause why that was HIV's preferred transmission path.

One question that pops to mind is which network will initially break the story of a ChiCom dossier that shows Trump is a tool of Xi based on Trump having used the same table at a Beijing restaurant that Joe Biden frequented and had women spray green tea on the chopsticks Biden used in a very provocative manner?

Cause and effect.

For instance, it has been proven that Carter Page is not a russian spy, therefore Inga believes he is.

Further, it has now been demonstrated that there was no russian collusion, therefore Inga believes there was.

Finally, there is zero evidence that Brett Kavanaugh ever met CBF, therefore Inga believes he raped her.

As you can see from the above examples, Inga believes in rigorous application of cause and effect analysis....(we won't flummox her at this time with the concept that correlation does not imply causation....baby steps people. Baby steps.)

So, carrying a virus, transmitting the virus, which results in the loss of viability is analogous to premeditated murder. Carrying an egg, transmitting a sperm, which progresses then concludes with an elective abortion is analogous to premeditated murder and millions of excess deaths annually. So, we know the steps to mitigate progress in the first instance, and we the four choices before indulging Pro-Choice, the wicked solution. That said, should it now be necessary to to mitigate progress throughout the year, throughout the period of tranmissible contagions? Should we review the first-order forcings of globalism, [catastrophic] [anthropogenic] immigration reform, social justice adventures (e.g. elective conflicts), labor and environmental arbitrage, and PC politicies that offer safe sanctuary and spread social contagion?

"I had been wondering why the positive test numbers were still rising in both Minnesota and Wisconsin. Now we know that both states are ramping up the number of people tested. More tests, more positive results."

Same is happening in MA.

To be fair, Ken B. called out Cuomo's move with nursing homes the other night. IIRC.

Learned today that Gov Charlie Baker didn't push back re-opening to June 29, he just cancelled the remainder of the school year and that day care facilities must remain closed until that date. MA still has a tentative re-opening of non-essential business on the calendar for May 4. Charlie has yet to affirm that date, hedging.

New deaths spiked earlier in the week at 211; 196 yesterday. Have we passed the peak, in MA, that was predicted about two weeks ago?

Big Mike said...

@Birmel, true, and what constitutes brandishing is established state by state through case law. Although the muzzles are pointed down, from their stance I judge that both hands are on the weapon in such a way that it could be brought to a firing position in a second or thereabouts. I’d be quite surprised if that did not constitute brandishing under Wisconsin law. If the rifles had been slung over the shoulder, it might be different, again depending on Wisconsin law.

I recall the lab testing capacity being 7500 2 weeks ago. I wonder why it hasn't increased. It's almost like the Gov wants to keep control by keeping the state closed.

Clarifying, the person on the right in camo appears to have both hands on his rifle. The person on the left appears to only have his right hand on the handle but his left is off the firearm. Nevertheless it would take only a fraction of a second longer for him to bring his rifle into firing position than his compatriot with the AK.

There is ZERO evidence that these folks have done ANYTHING to themselves.
So you are not "observing cause and effect".
You have an observation of a group of people.
You then predict an effect based on the assumption of a cause.

And the effect you predict is based on your politics and what you hope will come true, and not your observation.
