For some reason, I can't get google translate to work for me, but I've been assured this says the following:

"The Italian Society for Rheumatology studied 65,000 patients on longterm hydroxychloroquine for RA and Lupus.

Only 20 patients tested positive for COVID-19. No ICU, no deaths
and

"Healthcare professionals who are in close contact with contagious patients take the drug in advance, precisely to decrease the probability of contracting the infection. For now, in support of this "prophylaxis" effect, there is a recent publication, involving 211 people. It was published on theInternational Journal of Antimicrobial Agents , the official body of the International Society of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy. Of 211 people exposed to Covid positive 19 and undergoing hydroxychloroquine prophylaxis, none were infected.
Finally, further confirmation of this hypothesis is the data collected in the register of the SIR (Italian rheumatology society). To assess the possible correlations between chronic patients and Covid19, SIR interrogated 1,200 rheumatologists throughout Italy to collect statistics on infections. Out of an audience of 65,000 chronic patients (Lupus and Rheumatoid Arthritis), who systematically take Plaquenil / hydroxychloroquine, only 20 patients tested positive for the virus. Nobody died, nobody is in intensive care, according to the data collected so far."

Since we've been assured by the very best minds, including some here, that Trump is an idiot and hydroxychloroquine couldn't possibly be effective against covid19 because he said it might be, then only one conclusion is possible. Having Lupus or Rheumatoid Arthritis protects you against covid19.

Or maybe- we should stop all this nonsense about social distancing, use the available evidence, and at the first signs of having the virus, or with a positive test- doctors should be prescribing it and patients should be taking it. No after they're on ventilators, when it's too late- but as soon as infection is suspected. To do otherwise at this point is medical malpractice. Double blind studies are great. And sometimes, unneeded. It would take probably less than 2 days to get the data on Lupus or Rheumatoid Arthritis taking hydroxychloroquine in the United States and their hospitalization and death rates from covid19. If the numbers are even close to the Italian numbers, the double blind studies are unneeded.

Changing our entire lifestyle, ruining out economy, throwing people out of work, for fear of an unseen virus, is, IMHO, completely unacceptable.

Neither The Fauch or Scarfy ever brought this up either:

Capitol physician doesn't have enough coronavirus tests for all lawmakers as Senate plans return

'The capitol physician told Republican aides Thursday he does not have enough coronavirus tests for all lawmakers as senators are scheduled to return to Washington, D.C., on Monday, according to multiple media reports.

The news comes after Senate aides brought up the issue of COVID-19 testing to Capitol physician Brian Monahan this week, noting that most senators are considered at-risk for contracting the coronavirus.

Monahan told the staff that neither he, nor anybody else in the nation's capital, has access to the 15-minute tests the White House uses. He also noted that he does not have enough resources to test asymptomatic lawmakers, and will only be testing those who show signs associated with the disease such as cough, fever, difficulty breathing, runny nose and fatigue.

"My test result can take between two and seven business days to resolve," he said, according to Axios.'

'...Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), who at 86 is the oldest senator, sent McConnell a letter on Wednesday urging him to cancel plans to bring the Senate back into session next week, warning that coming back to Washington "risks all of us" and "sends the wrong message to the American people."

Sens. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) and Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) individually sent letters to McConnell asking him to publicly release guidelines on how the Senate will function while complying with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's social distancing guidelines.'

https://thehill.com/homenews/senate/495592-capitol-physician-doesnt-have-enough-coronavirus-tests-for-all-lawmakers-as

The 15-minute tests are likely the highly-touted "ID Now" Abbott Labs tests. Here's an April 24 company update:

"...ID NOW – Our rapid, portable testing instrument used in urgent care clinics, hospital emergency departments, and physicians' offices

We have shipped more than 1 million of our rapid ID NOW tests to all 50 states, Washington DC, Puerto Rico and the Pacific Islands. The majority of these tests have been sent to outbreak hotspots and we've asked that customers prioritize frontline health care workers and first responders.

We're currently manufacturing 50,000 tests per day, plan to increase ID NOW manufacturing capacity to 2 million tests a month by June and are working to expand beyond that..."

TESTS, yeah, but what they don't mention is exactly how many INSTRUMENTS they've shipped.

Since the White House has at least one of them, Capitol physician Brian Monahan should lean on McConnell and Pelosi to ask for some.

@Howard: got this headline from this morning's Boston Globe. Your optimism appears unwarranted.

"Five weeks after social distancing began, Mass. COVID-19 hospitalizations and cases remain high. Why so little improvement?"

With no one in town to treat, what's he doing all day?

Maybe get off his ass and make a phone call.

International Workers' Day, if you don't mind!

I think everyone should take the day off, do something you haven't done in awhile.

It's bad enough having to watch how politics shape public health policy, when medical 'experts' have zero education or interest in cost benefit analysis. What's really disturbing is how political the attitudes of medical 'experts' are when it comes to shaping medical diagnosis and treatment- treating 'populations' of patients rather than individuals, zealotry of compliance with medical 'orders', etc.

Thanks for alerting me to that Steve. That is not good news. My daughter is an essential worker and is on immune suppressants and her company is expanding pretty rapidly right now as they are working on advanced biotech that is relevant to the pandemic.

I just texted her a link to that article and reminded her to be ever vigilant.

Experts fail to find a single case of children passing virus to adults, but on the other hand an Israeli study says children can infect others, but at a lower rate.

I'm sure some people might think that this is just cooking the books to make things seem worse than they are.

Howard: best wishes for your daughter.

As for the change in how they are counting, consistency only matters for the purpose of comparing data over time. Personally I'd like them to do whatever is necessary to get the count right. Doing so will enable good decision making.

Yes, that is my advice to my family who I have supplied with enough HCQ for a 5 day course. That is also what the physician son did with his 90 and 88 year old parents when they tested positive. That was the story in the OC Register two weeks ago. They were subsequently admitted to Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach and discharged recovered in 5 says.

I think social distancing is appropriate for those of us over 65 but foolish for those who should be working.

HCQ helps even if not given early.

This just posted today to the MedRxiv preprint server. Short summary: Compares outcomes among all 568 critically ill Covid patients in need of ventilation at Tongji Hospital in Wuhan between February 1 and April 8. All received comparable basic treatments including antivirals and antibiotics, but 48 of them also got hydroxychloroquine. 9 of the 48 died (18.8 percent) versus 238 of the 520 (45.8 percent) who didn't get HCQ.

Those Chinese doctors sure are deplorable, aren't they?

One thing I've noticed during this pandemic. Public sector employees aren't in too much of a hurry to see this end. in fact they would like to have the lockdown last longer. My nephew , who delivers locomotives for Amtrac, would like the lockdown last another year or until a vaccine is found. They can't seem to comprehend that there are people in this world who aren't getting paid to sit at home.

Ten weeks into this insanity. Six weeks shut down.
A county of 280K in South Puget Sound. One hundred one positives. One death.

One. Death.
One.

And that idiot Jay Inslee just extended the shutdown until May 31.

Fuck you people.
