"So it is entirely possible that, following South Carolina, Sanders will have won three or all four of the contests."

"If nobody has emerged as a viable alternative by then, Michael Bloomberg’s campaign will be stepping in.... [I]f Bloomberg is the last Democrat standing against Sanders, he may well attract substantial support from Democratic elected officials and put up a strong fight. Still, he would face enormous opposition from the left.... At that point, the victory scenario would involve a long, bloody struggle all the way to the convention, with the Sanders movement claiming at every step of the way that the party is rigging the race against them, culminating in a convention where his enraged supporters will again try to shout down the proceedings. Unless one of the non-Bloombergs can somehow get off the mat and defeat Sanders, this is probably the best-case scenario for liberals at this point. It seems more probable that Sanders crushes the field and brings his historically unique suite of liabilities to the ticket. At the moment, the party is melting down over a vote-reporting fiasco in Iowa. In time, we liberals may look back at this moment as a high point."

From "If You Think It’s Bad for Mainstream Democrats Now, Just Wait" by Jonathan Chait (in NY Magazine).

"Unless one of the non-Bloombergs can somehow get off the mat..." How is Buttigieg on the mat? He's surging in the New Hampshire polls. Bernie has been expected to win New Hampshire for so long that he needs a clear win not to lose momentum to Buttigieg.

Have the Democrats decided to act panicked? I'm just speculating that they are desperate to stop Bernie and that acting panicked is a way to motivate people to get out there and vote for Buttigieg. Quick! Before it's too late!

But Biden isn't backing off and letting Pete take the lead. Here he is 2 days ago disparaging Pete:

"I do believe it's a risk — to be just straight up with you — for this party to nominate someone who's never held a office higher than mayor of a town of 100,000 people in Indiana." (You have to listen to that 15-second clip so you can hear how he says "Indiana." My Indiana-born husband reacted strongly to what felt to him condescension and disdain.)

ADDED: The freeze frame on that video makes it look like Buttigieg is wearing a strawberry earring. No disparagement intended! Just an observation made necessary by the clarity of the image.

The foreign emoluments clause prohibits high-level U.S. officials from accepting gifts or benefits from foreign governments. If this clause applies to immediate family members, and if Creepy Joe wins, however improbable, then we're going to have another impeachment.

Rep. Ayanna Pressley said she intends to "bring the fire" if Americans don't adopt her political ideology during a conversation with NPR's Democracy Now as part of the nonprofit organization Rising Majority's conversation with "the Squad." "As I said when we were at the border, we're going to keep telling and elevating these stories with the hopes that you will see the light," said Pressley. "And if you don't see the light, then we will bring the fire. That's just how it progresses." Pressley made the comments in a panel discussion at Howard University in Washington with Reps. Ilhan Omar, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and Rashida Tlaib, all Democrats....

She’s hysterical.

"Have I missed anything?"

Only that Gallup reported yesterday that Americans "Satisfaction with Their Personal Lives" is at 90%, an all-time high. They then followed up today with poll results showing that "59% of Americans say they're better off financially this year than last" -- an all-time polling high. And 74% expect to be better off next year than this, highest in the last 43 years.

Buttigieg is just a momentary insurgent, because in the musical chairs of the Dem nomination, it's his turn now.

Mondale-ism was the low water mark for the Dems waaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyy back in 1984. Comrade Bernie will be the killer this time.

I believe Trump will win easily.

We do, however, have a potential black swan situation happening before our eyes

yes, we do. but, as Trump's been fighting a trade war against China, causing companies to move their supply chains out of China, and the Democrats and NeverTrumpers having been screaming in opposition to it, it's a black swan far more likely to make Trump look good.

Esp. since the US under Trump has actually been using quarantine procedures, and not doing a Kevin Baconesque "everything is fine"

Mayor Pete wasn't elected as a gay candidate, he didn't come out till after he was elected.

He's been out since 2005.

He got "Mayor of a podunk town in Indiana" on his own.

He got "competitive in the Dem Presidential race" in his 30s because he claims to schtup other guys.

Klobuchar is the “i hope bland sells” candidate

Who came in 5th in the neighboring State of Iowa. She's toast

And, let's remember. "Mayor Pete" "came out" on the bigoted fascist platform of "Christians must be forced to participate in same sex 'marriages.'"

If he ever becomes President, his campaign will start with "if you don't want to have gay sex, don't", but by end of his second term his "packed Court" will be ruling that everyone must participate in gay sex.

Because no one is allowed to disagree with anything the Left demands we believe

Suppose you were a Democrat who wanted to see his/her party return to the mainstream, who would you want the 2020 nominee to be (knowing that Trump will win)? I’d pick Klobuchar.

How does that make sense? I think it's exactly the opposite. The commie wing, the Sanders and AOC and Squad wing, needs to crash and burn.

They need to have their time in the sun, they need to get their ya-ya's out, and they need to be shown, and for everyone to be shown, that radical left Democrat is not viable. To return to the center, they have to have the left have their chance and fail, which they will.

What really needs to happen is a purge of the Clintons and their apparat.

I have to disagree with your husband that Biden showed disdain for the Midwest, or Indiana in particular.  It seemed to me he just rattled those last two words off with no emphasis on them.

But it still ain't exactly a winning phrase here in fly-over country.
