"You’re looking at your options today, and you’re asking, 'Okay, can we win with Klobuchar? We don’t want to put Klobuchar up there because she doesn’t have a prayer. Trump’s gonna wipe the floor with her, and that would mean two women in a row get wiped out by Donald Trump. Two Democrat women in a row. We can’t have that! We can’t let that happen.' Then they’re sitting there and they’re looking at Mayor Pete — a 37-year-old gay guy, mayor of South Bend, loves to kiss his husband on the debate stage — and they’re saying, 'Okay. How’s this gonna look, a 37-year-old gay guy kissing his husband on stage next to Mr. Man, Donald Trump? What’s gonna happen there?' They gotta be looking at that, and they’ve gotta be saying that despite all the great progress and despite all the great wokeness and despite all the great ground that’s been covered, America’s still not ready to elect a gay guy kissing his husband on the debate stage president. They have to be saying this, don’t they? Now, there may be some Democrats who think that is the ticket. There may be some Democrats who think, 'That’s exactly what we need to do, Rush. Get a gay guy kissing his husband on stage! You ram it down Trump’s throat and beat him in the general election.' Really? Having fun envisioning that. What are you left with? Crazy Bernie. They’re left with the avowed revolutionary socialist who isn’t even a Democrat. So which of those three…? They want to take all three out. They would like to get rid of all three of those, the establishment of the Democrats. But if they can’t, which of those three would they rather lose with? Who among those three losing will do the least damage to the Democrat Party going forward? That’s what they are facing, if you ask me."
Link to Rush Limbaugh website.
I went to the official website for the link after reading (and listening to)
"Rush Limbaugh: 'Mr. Man Donald Trump' will 'have fun' with Pete Buttigieg because he kisses his husband" at Media Matters. Media Matters intends to hold Rush up for contempt. Here's a comment from over there:
We don't want to get into what Flush likes to kiss, other than to say it did earn him a Medal of Freedom. And is there any more word on an exact time that the grim reaper will dispatch Flush to the fires below? I ask for millions of like-minded people who want to plan their block parties.
I think it's interesting that anti-Trump, anti-Rush people would view what Rush said as homophobic. He's imagining that
Democrats are thinking that
voters are homophobic. How is that different from what Democrats are saying out loud when they say — and they say this over and over — that black people won't vote for Buttigieg? They're all but coming out and saying that
black voters are homophobic? It is different in
one way — it disparages
black people. If it's not disparagement, but simply an effort to understand how voters react to candidates, then what's wrong with what Rush said. The
speech is too clear?
By the way, it's fantastic to hear Rush Limbaugh going strong on the radio. Even Rush haters should feel cheered by a man's strength against the forces of nature.

DO the democrats think that america is ready to Vote for two gay guys making out on stage?
Rush is correct. Live by disaggregating the public, die by disaggregating your party.
And Trump should put Pence in the cabinet and select Ric Grenell as his running mate. Grenell 2024!
You missed their homophobia suggested by insinuating what Rush might have kissed to secure his award.
i'm a marxist, like my dad (he was The FOUNDER, of the Gramsci fan club!!)
i'm a rear echelon motherfucker! I'm PROUD of being a General's chauffeur !
of course i Didn't have to go through boot camp or anything; i'm a Direct Commission!
AND! i was only the General's chauffer for FIVE FUCKING MONTHS! then i went home!
i'm the mayor of a small, failing college (university) town in the midwest!
i'm (BARELY!) old enough to qualify for President
That is my COMPLETE curriculum vitae!!! Vote For ME!!!!! Vote For ME!!!!!
Oh, Wait! WAIT!! DID I MENTION? I'm a gayboy? I have a husband, and we make out on stage!!
two gay guys making out on stage
Kissing != Making Out.
In the run-up to the general election a black woman, a white woman, a Hispanic man, an Asian man, and more than one black man have been eliminated from the race so far, and not a single Republican has cast a vote in those contests. Whether the rest of us will have to decide if we can vote for a gay man who kisses his husband on the debate stage depends on whether Democrats can or not first.
How is that different from what Democrats are saying out loud when they say — and they say this over and over — that black people won't vote for Buttigieg? They're all but coming out and saying that black voters are homophobic?
And don't forget the Latinos! It's not like they're too thrilled at the demographic level with gay PDAs, either.
I tells ya, I'm surrounded by white liberals and they talk like THEY IS IT when it comes to the Democratic Party. How they see the world is how the Democratic Party rolls, at least according to them. That this is a demographic fantasy lies beyond their ken.
Klobuchar will disappoint. Another nonentity in the Senate with a vicious personality that is papered over by the media. Think Harris with a whitewash.
Damn, imagine the POTUS (man) kissing his husband for all the world to see. That should really put the fear of God (Muhammad) into the lives of the radical and simple followers of Islam. Good move, bitches. Maybe Butti could get a dialogue going again with Iran.
I assume they'll have separate bedrooms.
I record Rush to the HD to keep the streak going, but don't listen much. He's dropped the being funny part, and the listeners are too weepy. Last straw is having 13yo girls on to praise his books.
What happened to KOOKS, keep our own kids safe anti-soccer campaign. That was good.
The dem problem is adopting ridiculous policies that Trump won't zingerize as ridiculous. If you can't get away with pandering to women, the game's over no matter what candidate you run.
Rush always credits himself with knowing how liberals think and in this case I think he's right.
Imagine a socialistic, gay woman who might even be a man, and you have a super-candidate. With this kind of zaniness in mind, claim the moral, intellectual and establishment high-ground.
But seriously, Donald Trump is taking up conservative causes pretty well, but he’s a NYC Democratish mix of self-promoter and someone of pretty low character.
This is what worries me about the Republic overall. I don’t know who comes along and says he can puts the pieces back together.

Bernie ? What pieces ?
That video of the Democrat voter in the Iowa caucus who didn't know Buttplug was gay and wanted her ballot back will surface.
When I state that most Blacks are not down with the gays I'm not disparaging them. I'm simply stating a fact. Its in your head that that is disparaging.

Screw the gay stuff. What's even funnier with him imagining what democrats are thinking is the idea that they can't let Trump beat Democrat women twice.
Even if you think everything else is untrue, that one is. He's dead on. Classic leftist projection. Everything they think about conservatives is who they are themselves. Klobuchar needs protection. And they call Trump misogynist while protecting sub-par female candidates from having a sadz. The fucking gall of these people.
You know that one's true.
Maybe Butti could get a dialogue going again with Iran.
He'll tame Iran by sending cash, lifting sanctions, pleading for forgiveness and reviving Obama's fake nuclear deal.

I think it's depressing, not interesting, because it demonstrates my opinion that 90% of them are stupid, mouthbreathing, nonsense repeating sheep and 10% of them are smart enough to know they are twisting his meaning but do it anyway because they are mendacious, evil little shitweasels.
Trump the macho alpha male seems about as accurate to me as Trump the master negotiator. He is an insecure, vain, fastidious germaphobe who likes tanning beds, gossip rags, and catty behavior on social media. Doesn't exactly read "Mr. Man" to me.

I see where you're coming from, but I believe from the hetero male perspective (which neither of us occupies) Mr. Trump gets many man points for his five children and the market quality of the women he can consider conquests.

"Even Rush haters should feel cheered by a man's strength against the forces of nature." They won't.
Oh, not every one. But I interact regularly with Democrats and Progressives who are very open about their glee at the prospect of Limbaugh dying in agony.
If the 2008 CA prop 8 results are any indication, Trump would get record A-A votes for a Republican and bury Buttigieg.
"You ram it down Trump’s throat..." Ha!
Ron Winkleheimer said: "most Blacks are not down with the gays"
I mentioned this here a couple months back. By-and-large, the African American community is not gay-marriage friendly (see: California Prop. 8)
I remember that Farmer. So many crazies out there.
Because other major Western nations have broken the seal on a woman chief executive, I can kind of see a woman American president's not being too terribly handicapped on the world stage. But too many countries and cultures still have a problem with homosexuality for me to think that a gay American President could be effective. And that's not even touching the "out of his depth" issue.
As to the response to Rush's comments... it seems all too typical to me that Rush says something that the other side paints as homophobic (but which, as our host points out, is in reality a claim that Democrat leadership believes that Democrat voters are homophobic), and they go straight to "I hope he dies." Remember when Tony Snow's cancer returned? So many loud voices on the Left talking about how it served him right and how super appropriate it was that a Bush ass kisser would get "ass cancer." Always keeping it classy.
Even Rush haters should feel cheered by a man's strength against the forces of nature.
@Althouse, assumes a degree of humanity in the average Democrat that I have not seen in well over a decade. Stop living in the past Professor!

Rush's comments homophobic, but it is different when we make anti-gay references.

Rush is ill with cancer, but those Democrats are just sick with hatred. They then have the gall to call Republicans haters. Those Democrats project more than a 30 screen cineplex.
When people lampoon Pete's name in a way that emphasizes his gayness ("Buttplug", et al) I don't like it. Confront his poisonous ideas, not his sex life.
But then, I flip to see what rank-and-file democrats say about Trump, Rush, etc., where they routinely deploy sexualized slurs with unrepentant glee.
Recall their pinnacle of wit where they call Tea Partiers "Tea Baggers." They tittered into their hands at their oh-so-clever put-downs. "And they'll never even know," they shouted, "because they are so un-worldly as to never encountered this totally upright and not-at-all shameful practice!"
So, with this in mind, make as many mocking nick-names as you wish. Petey might be a sweet, loving guy undeserving of attacks in this particular area, or he may not. But as long as Romney can be shit on for "binders full of women" then I have to let go of my desire for civility bullshit.
The true test of the degree of tolerance for homosexual politicians will come when there is one with a record of accomplishments. The highest political office Pete Buttigieg has ever held is mayor of a modest-sized city, and the main thing we know is that the black residents of that city hate his guts. I reject the notion that black people are so uniformly homophobic that they would vote against him if he had been an effective mayor who was responsive to their problems.
IMHO Mayor Buttigieg is running as a vanity project so that he can claim a nonexistent homophobia did him in. Despicable doesn’t begin to cover it.
Even Rush haters should feel cheered by a man's strength against the forces of nature.
Except that they are nasty, tiny little people incapable of being cheered by the indomitability of the human spirit. That vile troll you quoted looking for Rush's expiration date so he can plan his ghoulish party--that is a fair representation of the left side of the ledger.
When Margaret Thatcher died in 2013, a campaign was launched for people to purchase the song Ding-Dong! The Witch Is Dead to get it back on the charts. It ended up reaching #2 on the UK singles charts and actually topped the charts in Scotland.
Interesting "Walkaway" experience. A Democrat goes to the Trump rally in NH.
"By-and-large, the African American community is not gay-marriage friendly (see: California Prop. 8)"
Oh, don't be silly. The folks that were protested for voting against gay marriage were Christian Fundies and Mormons.
If AAs, Hispanics or Muslims voted against gay marriage in large numbers we'd have all known. Because we'd have seen them protested and declared homophobes and bigots, right?
Right?
In terms of presidential candidate spouse kissing, has anything even begun to approach Al kissing Tipper in terms of sheer awkwardness? If the guy was trying to dispel notions that he was an emotionless robot, that was an epic fail.
Trump the macho alpha male seems about as accurate to me as Trump the master negotiator. He is an insecure, vain, fastidious germaphobe who likes tanning beds, gossip rags, and catty behavior on social media. Doesn't exactly read "Mr. Man" to me.
For a second there it appeared Chuck had hijacked Farmer's account.
I regard Rush's comment as homophobic.
I have always believed that a committed gay relationship that lasts for many years is far more moral and preferable to a heterosexual guy who repeatedly cheats on his wife.
I lost respect for the whole evangelical movement when it kept beating up on gays and lesbians rather than reminding their own members that adultery is banned in the Ten Commandments.
Rush haters don't hear his actual words. They read from someone else that 'Rush said this...". Or if they hear him themselves, they hear phrases, a few sentences out of context of the entire topic he's talking about. They hear the voices in their own heads, looking for an offense- any perceived offense- and then they are running that 'offensive' out of context phrase around their heads building up the hate hormones.
He's been around for decades now. Everyday. 3 hours/day. Running off the top of his head with a few notes to remind him of what he wants to cover. It's an enormous task that not a one of us could duplicate. You would think that, after 30+ years of 5 days/week, 3 hours/day, some of these people could leave the NPR station they're listening to and give it a try. See what the Demon actually has to say.
I think that most people would be shocked at how entertaining...and often brilliant, he is.
BTW- Petey is a light version of Obama, if that's possible. When he speaks, no substance comes out. And he reminds me of Howdy Doody. No way I can vote for Howdy Doody for President. It's Howdy Doody time!
If you give me a gay candidate who opposes open borders, infanticide, and destroying the US energy industry while believing in capitalism and prioritizing US interests above our competitors, I will vote for him in a second, regardless of who he kisses.

If Mayor Pete has a husband, then it must follow that his husband must have a wife.
"I have always believed that a committed gay relationship that lasts for many years is far more moral and preferable to a heterosexual guy who repeatedly cheats on his wife."
The societal preference for committed relationships has to do with the fact that children do best when they are raised by their Mother and their Father, living together. I don't really see why you insist on projecting your narrow-minded cis-het prejudices onto people whose sexual practices cannot possibly produce children. If they want to indulge in drug-fueled orgies with dozens of partners, how is that any of your business, bigot?
I thought the gamecocks plan was to run Pete as the front man with Hillary as his VP to energize women and to also put an expiration date on Pete's PDA.
The Dems must be counting on some kind of swoop scenario because they ain't making it with existing candidates.
If Mayor Pete has a husband, then it must follow that his husband must have a wife.
Boy is that original. Never heard that one before.
Rush must be able to get all the oxycontin he wants now.

And, yet, yesterday I saw a picture of the Trumps and tge Equidorian President and his wife. The Trumps are in the middle completely dominating the picture. Melania completely overshadows the other woman. Always. Taller, better looking, better dressed, more glamorous. You may pretend that isn’t the case. But Trump himself always dominates the photos he is in, as does his wife with other women. Sure, are reasons why they shouldn’t. It may be just that he has been a star for so long, esp on TV. But I don’t think that I can remember a recent photo of him when he wasn’t the center of the photo.
"I think it's interesting that anti-Trump, anti-Rush people would view what Rush said as homophobic."
Ah, yes, it's so "interesting." Apart from being the boringly predictable prog drivel.
"How is that different from what Democrats are saying out loud"
How is this different from any lies and distortions propagated by any other prog about any other righty speaker? Do you have any examples of any prog giving a fair account of anything by Rush or anybody like him? Do you assume that they try--and if not, why do you keep approaching them as if they do, as if they should be ashamed about their bad, bad mistakes, that they should want to correct?
Of course, we righties take perverse pleasure in the prog lies and willful blindness: their refusal to to understand, their disdain for us deplorables, is our strength. Rush has thrived on it.
@Bruce Hayden:
And, yet, yesterday I saw a picture of the Trumps and tge Equidorian President and his wife. The Trumps are in the middle completely dominating the picture.
You realize Lenín Moreno uses a wheelchair, right?
Yes, the Clintons were pretty corrupt and Bill Clinton disgraced the office, and yes the identity fracturing and old school socialist core Democrat party is a shambles. I wouldn’t vote for anyone there.
But the Republican Party has split wide open as well, so I don’t merely see this on the party axis, nor the change vs conservation axis, nor the modern nihilism vs tradition/religion axis, nor the authoritarian/freedom axis
When you have as much social change as we have, and as much emphasis on freedom as the highest good (gays=straights, women=men, old=young, former slaves freed and a few centuries of history overturned), all that change is working through our politics, and our politics and the people in it are getting more contentious, at least recently and currently.
This is ONE model I use to observe current events, and it’s got me worried, because given human nature (gays are a tiny minority and can’t produce children without help, men and women are fundamentally different in important ways, old and young are separated by vast distances of time and experience, slavery may not just be gotten around so easily) and nature(fate, death, wars etc), we may not find ourselves on a stable curve.
And yes, some things Donald Trump, says, and some ways in which he’s succeeded in business, and some of his personal behavior indicate lower character. Our political options are, at present, perhaps diminishing.
It may still get worse before it gets better, but as I said, I’m open to persuasion. I simply could be wrong.
Common sense men (demonized and vilified), and healthy stable relationships with common sense women, and the realities of war and aggression, competition, and ignorance and knowledge and kindness and cruelty and justice and mercy....all seem like a minority or plurality position. There are many moving parts, and many variables, but I reject the notion that being pro or anti Trump, in this context, is the only way to recover common sense and put some of this into context.
I too will vote in the next Presidential election and will be given pretty much two choices.
me too; do you Know of any? Or, are you saying Trump's Gay?
I'm saying I will vote for any candidate that supports issues important to me regardless of sexual orientation.
I had been listening less often to Rush over the last year or so. It seemed that the never ending impeachment and collusion stuff had gotten to him. He didn't seem to be having much fun doing the show, and he seemed to be generally angry in a way that was getting close to the liberal stereotype of him. Since his diagnosis, it feels like the "old Rush" is back. Godspeed, Rush. I sincerely hope he can beat this cancer.
It’s really odd to see him use the term “wokeness.” I used to listen to the show pretty regularly during the 00’s, but admittedly not really at all since then. I’m certain in this day and age he’s using the phrase all the time, but it just feels strange. Maybe it something to do with his age, or just the passage of time between when I listened to the show and now.
But then you realized how sensible and correct I was?
I normally find you sensible even when I disagree with your conclusions. I don't usually see you post off-topic gratuitous comments. That's more in Chuck's wheelhouse.
"Trump the macho alpha male seems about as accurate to me as Trump the master negotiator. He is an insecure, vain, fastidious germaphobe who likes tanning beds, gossip rags, and catty behavior on social media. Doesn't exactly read "Mr. Man" to me."
Ach, Farmer. It's what you bring, not who you are. I would have expected a clear-eyed pedantic pragmatist like yourself to understand that. In the political arena, Trump is indeed "Mr. Man" to a degree not seen in a very long time.
How is that different from what Democrats are saying out loud when they say — and they say this over and over — that black people won't vote for Buttigieg? They're all but coming out and saying that black voters are homophobic?
No, they're not:
https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2020/feb/11/pete-buttigieg-black-americans-democrats
Black voters – black women in particular – are the backbone of the Democratic party, and all of us have spoken. We do not support Buttigieg.
It’s not because he is gay, despite some claims that that’s the reason. It’s the fact that his team would have the gall to float this insidious and divisive narrative in some ill-conceived plan to shame us into supporting him.
It’s not the fact that he’s young. It’s the fact that he has yet to develop the temperament to hold the office.
It’s not the fact that he’s white. It’s the fact that, to many of us, he is the embodiment of white privilege – someone afforded the opportunity to hold the most powerful office in the world when he has less experience in office than our local church deacon.

Ever read Plautus? There's more than a bit of Miles Gloriosis to Trump — a comical version of Mr Man.
Just to illustrate prog attitudes in their natural habitat:
"Michael Drexler, a professor of American literature, posted on Twitter: “Rush Limbaugh is one of the worst people to ever walk this planet. He is a scar on this nation, deserving only to be plucked out and fed to eagles. Medal of shame. Badge of dishonor. Death, thou too shalt die!”"

Thanks for the kind words. Rush introduced the phrase “Mr. Man.” And I didn’t think it was that gratuitous. I’ve always found Trump to be kind of effeminate. And so have you. Back in April 2016 you commented: “His hand gestures always distract me. They seem so effeminate for such a supposed alpha male.” And in October 2016 our gracious hostess wrote: “I'm very interested in this because Meade and I have often talked about how feminine Trump is (even as he has some obviously masculine things about him).”

No. And all chaps are assless, so you don’t really need the qualifier.

It isn’t that difficult for rich men to mary beautiful women. Harvey Weinstein was married to Georgina Chapman after all.

Howard, who is Major Pete?
You ram it down Trump’s throat
I don't think that is the image one wants to convey in discussing a Trump-BootyBoy debate.
Now that my (life long Democrat) wife knows that BootyBoy is gay she has a slightly higher opinion of him. She is concerned that Trump will be viciously mean to him. Being respectful is very important to her.
Apparently the DNC media does not show the disrespect that Democrats have for Trump.
Howard, who is Major Pete?
Major Tom is indisposed so Major Pete is taking over.
Ground control can you hear me?

Can’t disagree with this (and I have my own opinions about his sexual orientation). But everything you’ve listed there, presumably as a negative, are the qualities I actually LIKE about him.

Sure, I can see that. But to echo Cracker Emcee's comment above, Trump does seem to dominate any space he's in. Is there anybody in public life who's alpha'd (is that a word?) Trump? Could very well be - I watch or listen to very little in the way of recordings or videos, where all those primate moves establishing dominance hierarchies, subtle and not so subtle, can be observed.
Not to compare Trump to Julius Caesar, but just to point out that a certain effeminacy is not incompatible with being The Man: Caesar was known (and laughed at) for his attention to his appearance and being a totally fabulous dresser, which probably lent verisimilitude to all the rumors about passive homosexual behavior. (The latter, alas for spicy historical soap-opera, probably not true.) And if ever anybody was The Man, it was Julius Caesar.

A great start to the day.
IMO if the establishment Dem's let Sanders get the nomination his defeat will help the party deal with leftist extreme -- let them take the fall. Sort it all out and move on. Save Mayor Pete for 2024.
I listened to Rush yesterday. His zest remains undiminished as does his fund of knowledge of current events. You wouldn't know from listening that he's taking the uphill route through the valley of death. You've got to admire his professionalism and the brave way he's handling this. Still, if I were under such duress, I'm not sure I'd want to spend my days learning all there is to know about Amy Klobuchar and Adam Schiff.....I'm an old man. I'm not under imminent threat, but someday soon the biopsy will come back positive. When the chimes start tolling, I don't intend to spend my last days reading about politics, the Academy Awards, or the Royal Family....Well, Rush's interest in politics has made him rich and famous, and he obviously enjoys the game. But who among us wants to contemplate Adam Schiff while undergoing chemotherapy?
His effeminate is Trump's Teflon. He's immune to being Alpha'ed because he is the princess in that dynamic.
@ Angle-Dyne, Samurai Buzzard:
Good points. Cracker, too. As they used to say about Caesar, “He was every woman’s man and every man’s woman.”
Pete is the Major of South Bend over in Indiana
Bend over?
Bendover is an AFB in Utah.
@Rosalyn:
J. Farmer thinks Trump is too gay... lol
Effeminacy is not gay. Most charismatic leaders tend to successfully integrate masculinity and femininity into their style. Bill Clinton snd John Edwards were rather effeminate, and both were serial mashers. Incidentally, in Victorian England a masher was another term for a dandy.
I think Rush is wrong about how Dems will evaluate Klobuchar. Unlike Clinton, she isn't dogged by ethics concerns (Clinton Foundation, mail servers, Whitewater). She doesn't bear the never-to-be-loved Clinton name. She doesn't create the intense negative vibes that Hillary did. Klobuchar is solidly liberal but not anti-democratic like Bernie, and she has lots of experience in contrast to Mayor Pete.
Biggest plus of all: In an election between Trump and Klobuchar, Amy K will seem like a sane choice to all of the people who are exhausted with Trump, and we are many.
Her only negative is that Klobuchar is too long for a bumper sticker.
Frederick the Great combined lots of gay interests with an alpha male persona. It can be done, but not by Mayor Pete.....I don't think libs will get that same warm glow voting for a gay man that they did voting for a black man. Perhaps there are some people who will vote for him because he's gay but that number will be dwarfed by those who vote against him because he's gay.....He's poised and well spoken and his pants hold their crease. These attainments got Obama over the finish line. I don't think they will work for Mayor Pete, but who knows.
To repeat a comment I made in the Cosmo Skincare thread:
“I never cease to be amazed at straight people's seemingly endless obsession with the mechanics of gay sex.”
"Even Rush haters should feel cheered by a man's strength against the forces of nature."
LOL. Good luck with that. The Rush-haters can't wait to see him slipped on the slab.
Her only negative is that Klobuchar is too long for a bumper sticker.
Amy!
Howard: "For now, I'm solidly behind Major Pete."
A chauffeur battlefield promotion?
The Democrats are just a big, loving, dysfunctional family. They just love downtrodden blacks. They just love downtrodden women. They just love downtrodden gays. And so on.
Because they're so loving and inclusive, they can wring their hands all day long about their "family".
Rush can't do this. He once said, "Feminazi". He once called California Senator Barbara Boxer a "room-temperature IQ". He said "mean-spirited" things about St. Bill Clinton (har har).
Rush isn't family. So he can't say anything about the hand-wringing the Democrats might be doing about poor, downtrodden, gay Mayor Pete!

"I have always believed that a committed gay relationship that lasts for many years is far more moral and preferable to a heterosexual guy who repeatedly cheats on his wife."
Now, I am not an expert on this and I'm thinking of a very sample size, but the few gays I have known who were in committed long-term relationships were not in strictly monogamous ones. Of course, the same can said of many straights, but as a rule, monogamy is expected in straight relationships. Gays - or gay men, at least - seem to have a rather more relaxed attitude about it. None of the gay men in long-term relationships seemed to think an occasional one-night stand was any big deal.
"I lost respect for the whole evangelical movement when it kept beating up on gays and lesbians rather than reminding their own members that adultery is banned in the Ten Commandments."
Members really shouldn't have to be reminded. As you note, it's one of the 10 Commandments.
Or, are you saying Trump's Gay?
@gilbar, if he is that would surely surprise Stormy Daniels!

I'd vote for Richard Grenell in a heartbeat.
How is Klobuchar going to get anyone to vote for her - just by being the last one standing?
Reason I ask, and I'm asking seriously, is that here in a tony part of Seattle I see a lot of Bernie yard signs and bumper stickers, perhaps even more Warren, also Pete, a few Yang, and even one lonely Patrick. (Still can't believe that one: Perhaps a relative?)
So ... not a single Klobuchar. Now, here in Seattle, they of course obviously will all vote for Klobuchar or any other body dragged over the Dem primary finish line because Orange Man Bad.
But elsewhere ... is that the way she gets her votes? Are there yard signs up for her elsewhere?
(BTW: No Biden for President signs/stickers either. Plenty of cars still have Obama/Biden stickers ... but none for just him.)
So what the candidate actually brings to the job is of no importance at all, just what kind of sex they prefer. Is that really where we are now? Pathetic.
If Trump was a cock-sucking transvestite, in high heals and still performed as he has, I'd vote for him. I don't expect that any of the other candidate regardless of sexual proclivities would be as good at the job of President.
Charlie: "Biggest plus of all: In an election between Trump and Klobuchar, Amy K will seem like a sane choice..."
Is "sane" currently a synonym for "moderate"? Because I keep getting told that candidates have "sane" or "moderate" policy views, and it always turns out that they're "sane" and "moderate" relative not to the American center, but to the looney left. (That is, not sane and not moderate to at least half the country).
Or, alternately, does "sane" mean "will revert to what was business as usual before Trump showed up". See also "boring", Althousian usage.
None of the above are going to be a "plus" with millions of voters.
...to all of the people who are exhausted with Trump, and we are many.
What about Trump is "exhausting" you, exactly? Can you give some specifics? (Curious because I don't know what it's like - or even what it means - to be "exhausted" by political office holders.)

FIFY.
I mean, how DARE that President Trump make it so that people who've never taken a Women's Studies class can get raises? Keep their jobs or get new ones?
We just can't have that! because without our utterly unearned sense of moral and intellectual superiority, we have nothing!
In passing, my wife asked who won the New Hampshire primary.
"Did that Booty guy win?"
Nope. It was Sanders, Bootygig and Klobacher.
"Who?"

Here in Columbus, Ohio: Lots of Sanders yard signs and bumper stickers. A few Yang. I think I saw one Biden bumper sticker over the past few months. No one else on the Dem side.
Trump is well represented by signs and stickers. I think people are losing their concern over any stigma or backlash for supporting him.
Rush sounds like his old self again, is what he sounds like, and that's great. I wish him the best.
And Ann's analysis, here, is spot-on, too. Catching 'em disparaging the darkies again - always appreciated.
May I suggest a post, eventually, about the implications of "Who Killed Malcolm X?" (on Netflix) after the revelations about MLK's running trains on his congregation - such as, if Malcolm had lived, he would've found an even more corrosive sexual situation in Martin Luther King's organization than in the Nation of Islam, the cult he left that killed him. And what about the code of silence surrounding it for all these years, by the NYPD, the FBI, and black people themselves? Look at he faces. At the pride. I found it chilling.
And we need to talk.
I note that in this extract Limbaugh doesn’t mention the self-made guy who’s richer than Trump, more successful in business than Trump, who’s smarter than Trump, who’s more learned than Trump, who’s more analytical than Trump, who has more executive experience and more successful executive experience than Trump in business and in politics, who projects himself larger than Trump because he one on one beats him in all these comparisons, who’s centrist and pragmatic and orderly and who’s attractive to those who are looking for a sensible, large looming alternative to Trump.
He’ll beat Trump like a rented mule and Trump knows it.
Nate Silver shows Sanders well ahead here in Nevada, with Biden and Warren sinking fast, and Pete on the rise. Because the Culinary Union is pushing back on Bernie's Medicare 4 All, Mayor Pete has pitched Medicare for All Who Want It. Stay tuned.
I want the same drugs Itzik is on.

i'm curious, just how stupid do you have to be to have missed the past three years?
The Trump economy has been the best US economy since at least Reagan. It's an economy where the "lower classes" have finally gotten a chance to participate in US success.
The reason why it's been so good for them is because Trump's Presidency has led to a decrease in illegal aliens, and trade agreements that have actually resulted in manufacturing jobs coming back to the US.
you know, that thing we were promised could never happen.
Bloomberg is an officious tool, and bullying nanny who's sold his soul to China. Only a total sh!t for brains would vote for him, either that, or someone who hates America and Americans.
I really hope Bloomberg is the Democrat nominee, because Trump will beat him like a drum. Watching losers like you cry when it happens will just be the extra joy
I'm tired of Trump's petty and childish tweets and public statements. Love the economic boom, love his conservative court picks, but would really like to see a grown-up back in the Oval Office.
To repeat a comment I made in the Cosmo Skincare thread:

I’ve noticed the same thing when Anderson Cooper was so proud of his tea bag jokes long ago.
Hmmm, petty and childish tweets versus federal agencies spying and abusing the courts, hoax persecutions, and batshit hysterics of every sort...
Yeah, I don't know. It's a tough one.

That's a petulant child's chain of reasoning.

Which "grownup" would that be?
Obama, who corrupted the IRS, ATF, DoJ, FBI, CIA, and NSA and used them against his US political opponents?
W, who was such a "grownup" that he could never be bothered to fight back against dishonest attack.
Bill "BJ" Clinton?
George "Read My Lips, I lied to you" Bush?
Jimmy "put the mad mullahs in power" Carter?
Tricky Dick Watergate Nixon?
LBJ?
Please, tell us about all these effective "Adults" who've been populating the Presidents office.
Reagan? Reagan was an adult. And he still had plenty of screwups.
Do I wish Trump was more like me? Of course I do! but, the reality is that I wouldn't have won teh 2016 Presidential Election, and Trump did.
So, do you want to be a whining baby? Or can you suck it up, grow up, accept the bad with the good, and look at all the things president Trump has done for the US, and say "yeah, that's good."
Because if you can't do that. if you're going to go one and on like a baby abotu Trump's tweets, then you need to stop complaining about others "childishness"

Well. If you lot ever quit droning on about it maybe that will stop.
Of course Rush isn't homophobic!
It's simply that Rush can't think of anything more substantial about Pete to bash him with. If Pete were a socialist, I'm sure Rush would rather talk about that, but he can't, so he talks about Pete's being gay.
This must be very re-assuring to Pete supporters...that one of the top right-wing hit men can't come up with anything more substantial to bash their candidate with is a very encouraging sign for their candidate, I would imagine.
By the way, has Rush ever explained why he has no children, despite having been married four times?
I think that Rush probably is a deeply closeted gay man himself, and he picks on gayness of others to draw his fans' attention away from what would be a pretty obvious conclusion. That probably why Rush always needs a woman to act as his beard, and why finds gayness so fascinating.
I agree that Rush is not homophobic.
Why, then, his fascination with Pete Buttigieg's homosexuality, which the candidate freely admits?
I think it's probably because Rush, far from being a homophobe, is himself a deeply closeted gay man. That's why he always needs a woman to act as his beard in public. He never has fathered any children, because Rush doesn't sleep with women.
When Rush was much younger and worked in Pittsburgh under an assumed name, he was routinely ridiculed by other DJs as "the only DJ in town who can't get laid." In retrospect, he probably didn't get laid (by a woman) because he never wanted to get laid (by a woman).
Thanks for posting this, Anne. Really thought-provoking.
Trump is comfortable with his feminine side. That's why he doesn't get worked up about homosexuality. Good for him.
If Trump does take the low homophobic road against Buttigieg, he'll deserve condemnation. If he doesn't, we might recognize that he's actually not going as low as he could.
