The NYT presents the Trump-in-India story, which it does not put at the top of the front page. The top story, in the NYT view, is the continuing spread of coronavirus.
By contrast, the Washington Post puts the Trump-in-India story at the top:
Clicking through on that headline, we get "Live updates: Trump touts $3 billion U.S.-India defense deal at massive rally with Modi." Sample text:
Following a 13-mile roadshow, President Trump arrived at Sardar Patel Stadium known as Motera stadium, to the cheers of more than a 100,000 people. Roads had a festive air with cut-outs of Trump and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, flags of the two countries and colorful balloons. Onstage, Trump in a suit and neon yellow tie waved to crowds and hugged Modi. Trump’s daughter Ivanka was mobbed for selfies by excited spectators....
Abhishek Parihar, 18, a university student, heard about the event at a tutoring class and jumped at the chance to see the prime minister. “I am very excited to see Modi,” he said. And Trump? “Yes, him also,” said Parihar. Trump is a “very nice person and he was a successful businessman. And he is the best friend of Modi.”

I'm all in favour of unabashed homages to Trump, if it'll piss off the NYT.
Trump who?
Trump and America LOVED BY WORLD
LLR's, progs; hardest hit
"The event catered to Mr. Trump’s taste for a giant crowd."
Not "the event catered to the giant crowd's desire to see Trump."

But I have been assured by all the right people that President Trump HATES brown people.
When Trump stopped in Singapore to meet with Kim Jong-un, at least 100,000 Chinese were lining the streets--cheering--as Trump's motorcade passed. American news cameras tightened the shot to show as little of that as humanly possible.
Does the times have anything to say about the 6 nuclear power plants India is buying from Westinghouse?
That's yuuuge. Too yuuge to ignore one would think.
And the primary reason for the visit.
The deal has been dragging on for 10 years or so with top men negotiating.
But never closing.
Coffee is for closers.
Trump is a closer.

Melania looked fabulous as usual. So did Ivanka.
I go to the daily mail for my gossip and Melania fashion.
— The event catered to Mr. Trump’s taste for a giant crowd."—
Except he’s using small venues for his rallies.
Its not his fault people want to go.
Hawkeyedjb, indeed - what did Modi do, put in a call to Central Casting for 100,000 spectators in order to satisfy Trump's penchant for big crowds?
They get away with being this transparent. It somehow still shocks me. I'm just hoping enough American voters are still paying attention to what the media do with regard to Trump, because I fear the long-awaited economic downtown may be happening before the election and too many people will think that a vote for the Socialist is a vote for their wallets. I try to have faith in the common sense of ordinary Americans, but then I remember that my son, raised in my house by me, employed by a bank doing energy finance, with zero student debt, supports Bernie.
Imagine a society where they appreciate and strive to be 'successful business people'. In America, the current generation strives to work for a 'non-profit' and hates to be part of any profit making enterprise.
They have so much they hate it.
Ahmedabad did not deliver the 10 million well-wishers that Mr. Trump has said Mr. Modi promised to turn out — television images suggested tens of thousands, not millions in the streets
They're arguing about crowd sizes again?
President Trump arrived at Sardar Patel Stadium known as Motera stadium, to the cheers of more than a 100,000 people
The stadium capacity for cricket is 110,000 and the field was filled with people as well. 125,000 was Trump's claim. So twelve and a half tens of thousands...
An entire subcontinent of racists!
India....you're my love song.
(Psychedelic Furs)
To be fair, an Indian crowd that size would turn out for the Jonas Brothers.
(...to be fair, a crowd that size would turn out not for the Jonas Brothers but their wives Priyanka Chopra and Sophie Turner.)
Thank you, come again!
10 years?
And who was the President during most of it?
The business of America is business.
And hopefully those reactors will minutely start lowering India’s pollution.
I caught the end of Trump’s speech when I got up. I liked that they played “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” at the end. Talk about making Trump feel right at home!
"unabashed homage to Mr. Trump"? I seem to recall Obama making some trips abroad that were unabashed homages to the Lightbringer (but with the MSM cheering along as well). Then there was Kennedy in Berlin and his "I am a pastry" moment. It's what Presidents do.
India is the counter to China. This is called strategy.
Donald Trump & FLOTUS watch the birds pass them as they tour Taj Mahal.
Amazing photo.
"India....you're my love song. (Psychedelic Furs)"
I love that first album. I think the word "stupid" is in the lyrics of every song on it. So I'm gonna check (UK version):
India: "India stupid on the carpet floor..."
Sister Europe: "Stupid on the Steinway..."
Imitation of Christ: nope.
Fall: "Sail upon the stupid sea..."
Pulse: Honorary mention with "You are miracle drivel"
We Love You: "We are so stupid, we all dream..."
Wedding Song: nope
Blacks/Radio: "The stupid and the stupid and the infantile..."
Flowers: "and out of him came stupid light"
6 out of 9 with an Honorary Mention.
I remember a review that said Richard Butler's voice was a mix of David Bowie and Johnny Rotten, which I think is pretty accurate, really.
I am Laslo.
The event catered to Mr. Trump’s taste for a giant crowd
As opposed to those far more refined Democrats, who seem to prefer smaller crowds.
I'm not alone in noticing the obvious bias. I guess the Democrats prefer their smaller crowds.
More selective.
How long till liberals start referring to India as a fascist State?
Having outlawed and Big Gulp in NYC, Bloomberg would never draw this type of crowd in India.

Yep. They went commercial, and straight down hill after that. It's one of the best post-punk albums out there.

Talk Talk Talk is a really good album. I worked on the local tech crew for a Furs show in Philadelphia back in the 80s and they were incredibly nice guys. The opening band Mission UK, a shitty cheeseball knockoff of the worst elements of The Cult and The Sisters of Mercy, were the biggest bunch of pricks you'd ever not want to meet.
That’s $9 billion. Sweet!
During NPR's sneering coverage of this event they state that Indian immigrants to America are mostly Democrats. Then note that during the last election some small segment crossed the aisle to vote for Trump. They don't seem to grasp that the disdainful way they report on the event increases the chances that even more will cross the aisle this election. But I guess when it comes to Trump they just can't help themselves.
I wonder if this is like Ronnie’s ReykjavÃk moment.
Xi-Pooh’s in his bunker and DJT is cutting deals.

As the British politician Lord Taverne puts it, speaking of himself: "A classical education teaches you to despise the wealth it prevents you from earning."
I’m so old I remember when India was “non-aligned” but it sided with the commies.
"But I have been assured by all the right people that President Trump HATES brown people."
Well obviously these are all White Indians.
I'm surprised the cavalcade of Indian luminaries didn't include Baba Ramdev. He is a shamelessly wealthy extremely charismatic Yogi who specializes in breathing exercises which are in fact wonderful. If you want to get rid of a chest cold look that dude up. you can get his instructional YouTube video and be on the path to better breathing and one day. He's also a wild sex maniac and general CAD about town but the people there love him.
The stock market decline that is happening now, and will probably get worse, is caused by one, and only one thing, and that is the coronavirus.
The business of America is business.
Did the monkeys at the Taj Mahal leave the Trumps unmolested? They (at the Guardian) were salivating over the possibilities yesterday.
My husband went to his billionaire Indian Bosses' sons' wedding. (There were billboards on the side of the road showing them the way!!) They even dressed him for the occasion!! There were thousands there, and when my husband walked in, he walked by standing room, then rows of metal chairs, then metal chairs with cushions, then kitchen type chairs....all the way up to fabulous couches with pillows for my husband and the other invited guests. They really do things by class. My husband said their feast was amazing, and the "low class" Indians had cheaper food. He said they would be walking down stairs, and if my husband and his group started to climb up, the people coming down would go back up and stand at attention. He hated it.
The world is passing the Palestinians by. That is their choice.
Did everyone notice Trump’s yellow tie?
The Axios coverage mentioned that there was a protest. It was at a local mosque.

Clinton and Loral.
Ross Perot was right.
Tumeric futures are up
John Henry notes that Trump follows the simple ABC's of sales:
Always
Be
Closing
[Glengarry Glen Ross]
And Melania looked spectacular. No question the Trump women help with sales. ;-)
"Tumeric [sic] futures are up"
Sherbert futures are flat.
What do you mean [sic], that's exactly what Google autocorrect suggested
The Indian reception was not for Trump. It was for a strong and loyal American President making America great again. That man just happened to be DJT who had the required talent to fight for freedom.
Wait, a $3 billion military deal? But we were told:
"When presidents go abroad, their trips are typically prewired to include a number of “deliverables,” things like trade deals, security agreements and heavily scripted statements by leaders of their affection for one another."
"But President Donald Trump’s journey halfway around the world this coming week is primarily about something else India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi has promised him — a massive, largely adoring crowd, perhaps the largest he’s ever addressed."
Gosh, guess the MSM still have their heads up their backsides

Greg, I think their heads are so firmly wedged in their rectal vaults that they can't be dislodged without major surgery.
Greg beat me to it.
That said, the Indians do seem to be pandering to his ego, which seems to be a good way to get what they want. The Democrats should have considered it.

Yes, it is, yes, they should have. But they were too enraged by losing what they thought was a done deal, to react rationally to the loss.
Which is very fortunate for us
"But they were too enraged by losing what they thought was a done deal, to react rationally to the loss."
Given that Trump went from zero to Hitler in the time it took to ride down an escalator, I don't think it was the loss that caused the Dems to lose their rationality.
Look at how good we can feel about our relationship with India, compared to the angst, pain, and risk involved in our relationship with China.
