The President's lawyer Jay Sekulow said the 3-hour presentation today will be “a trailer” — “coming attractions” — for what's to come next week.

And — as the NYT puts it in "What to Watch For in Trump’s Impeachment Trial on Saturday" — "anything they say will resonate over the weekend and could be seized on by Democratic presidential candidates who will be campaigning aggressively ahead of the Iowa caucuses on Feb. 3." So "the president’s lawyers are likely to take the opportunity to try out a few sound bites that could foreshadow" the longer arguments we'll hear on Monday and Tuesday.

Sekulow is never intimidated. He will very politely cut the Corrupt Dems throats.

If they're going to do a trailer, they need this guy.

It’s a good approach. The press likes to speculate more than they like to report.

Give them something to speculate about and they’ll spend the Sunday talk shows not reporting on Schiff’s presentation.

I see Sekulow is now being attacked for alleged corruption.

Interesting tactic for the left.

Rare "Democrats seizing" sighting.

If I had just wasted twenty-four hours of my life being insulted by the lower chamber then I’d be enthusiastic about having to sit for only three hours today.

So, the Senate asked them to limit it to 3 hours today. I thought it was 3 days at 8 hours each day!

Already they're goofing off.

I am guessing they will not allow Dersh up there lest he reprise his old line '“not happy seeing Nixon’s gang being tried by blacks and liberals in the District of Columbia”

In truth, the House Democrats had nothing other than the transcript of Trump's call as actual evidence. The rest was opinion, lies and made-up tripe. It should not take a long time to respond. A concise rebuttal repeated three times over three days should suffice. In fact, three hours seems like too much.

"Democratic Party Suicide" is on everyone's lips.

I would love to have Sekulow's job. It is going to be a lot of fun demolishing the House impeachment bullshit.

However, this farce is not about evidence and logic, is it?

Is "Democrats seize" the MSM equivalent of "Republicans pounce"? What's the AP style book say?

Listening to NPR just now, the Deputy White House Press Secretary refused to answer Scott Simon’s question; is it the President’s position that he never withheld aid in return for an investigation, or is it his position that the aid was withheld, and the withholding of aid was an appropriate use of presidential power and politics?

Once we know the answer to that question, then the nation’s attention can be totally focused on whether the evidence supports that particular defense. And we can all determine which witnesses and documents will serve to straighten out everyone’s competing stories.

Wait; is that true? The Senate is limiting the time? Or are the President’s lawyers electing to not use all 8 hours they are allowed today?

Ukraine got the money at or before the deadline. Money is not withheld if it is not paid early.

If the tax payment deadline is 4-15, you are not in default if you fail to pay on March 1.

Maybe Chuck knows; Which 4 of the House Managers voted against providing aid to Ukraine?

This "evidence" for the impeachment is even weaker than in the ridiculous "Collusion" farce or the vindictively ugly Kavanaugh hoax. Not surprising that the same people who were unable to intelligently examine those attempted political lynchings are lining up to be duped again. Choosing ignorance because it's easier than changing one's political stance. Wasted minds, wasted lives.

Chuck doesn’t care, and it isn’t relevant to impeachment. I think it is relevant to the Rush Limbaugh Show.

Chuck, the Dems claim Ukraine's very existence was on the line and Trump's actions imperiled it. I saw you make a similar claim.

How much of the aid did the Bidens get?

Why don’t the Bidens pay child support?

Why didn’t Vindman and The Whistleblower go to Congress about the Bidens taking money from Ukraine?

How much of Ukrainian aid money went back to the Bidens and other Americans?

How much of the $1.7 billion Obama said he sent in cash to Iran did Obama keep?

Why hasn’t Adam Schiff produced the evidence he said shows him that Trump colluded with Russia?

How much of foreign aid ended up in bank accounts he controlled?

"Why hasn’t Adam Schiff produced the evidence he said shows him that Trump colluded with Russia?"

Damn good question. It's because he was lying through his fucking teeth.

An even better question is why haven't the dems shunned him for this behavior?

’And we can all determine which witnesses and documents will serve to straighten out everyone’s competing stories.’

Before we can proceed to ‘which witnesses’ we’ll need to determine ‘if witnesses’. Do you think there’s much chance for witnesses to be called? For me, it’s gone from a toss-up to almost no chance.

God what an idiot you are !

If that's the same Chuck, it's kind of refreshing to see the admission that he doesn't actually care about the safety of the Ukrainians, and that this is all just about political advantage for him.

Chuck has argued that Trump’s ‘delay’ in the release of lethal aid to Ukraine harmed our national security. Now he doesn’t care that four of the House Impeachment Managers voted against the bills appropriating lethal aid to Ukraine. 😂

“ Why didn’t Vindman and The Whistleblower go to Congress about the Bidens taking money from Ukraine”

We apparently now know that the presumed whistleblower was overheard in late January of 2017, days after the inauguration, talking about taking out Trump. That was almost 3 years ago, and maybe 2 1/2 years after he worked with Schifty and McCord to setup Trump.

Just like Inga and the border. She’s a nurse and could have volunteered, but it’s all about political advantage instead of the children she said she cared about.

The Times ran a headline "Democrats pounce..." that I thought I saw earlier this morning; a search returns an article about Mr Trump's natterings about Social Security reform on the 23rd.

Michael K said...

It would be an interesting strategy if the Trump team limited themselves to three hours a day and waived the rest as unnecessary.
