The headlines and the choice of photograph are Drudge's. The links go to:
"Rush Limbaugh renews radio show contract in a 'long-term' deal" (CNN Business), with no picture of the man in shorts. And...
"America’s Anchorman Interviews President Trump," a transcript at Limbaugh's own site, with no photograph of Rush, but who knows? Maybe Rush would wear his Florida golf outfit to interview Trump if the men were going to golf together.
I'm going to read the interview and update this post.
UPDATE: Seems like a phone interview (so Rush can wear what he wants).
RUSH: They said they’ve got 21 targets they’re looking at, and you came back and said, “Fine. I’ve got 52 of yours.” I don’t think that they are accustomed to a president like you, sir. I mean, you just mentioned it. Obama basically appeased them. Obama worked with this guy on the Iranian nuclear deal.... What was the purpose of American policy with Iran prior to your presidency?ADDED: I haven't read the whole interview yet, but I did search the page for "culture" and "cultural" — and came up with nothing. How can Rush not have asked about the "cultural sites" controversy? Collusion.
THE PRESIDENT: I don’t think they had a purpose.... When I first came into office, I went to the Pentagon, and they showed me 18 “sites of confliction,” meaning conflict, over there. And every one of them was started by Iran, either their soldiers or they paid for soldiers, soldiers for hire. I have no idea what they tried to do with appeasement....
... I think John Kerry was… Personally, I think he was advising them.... And, you know, right after they made the deal, it wasn’t like they were respected. They treated the United States worse than ever before. In fact, I said, “At least give him a little respect,” because they treated… They got worse. They actually got more hostile. They took the $150 billion and they took the $1.8 billion in cash, and they got worse. And, if you remember, right before the payment was made, they took 10 sailors. And they humiliated those sailors, and they humiliated our country with the sailors down on their knees. And the only reason they released them was they wanted their first payment....

The pattern on those shorts would look a lot better in a long pant.
Horrible choice of colors. And we know you don't appreciate men in shorts.
THEOLDMAN
If that's a current photo, he's looking better than he did as a young man. Life is good when you're the King of Radio.
Did he repurpose Rainbow Flag?
Investigate John Kerry.
It's almost as though they were trying to gather your attention and store it in a granary.
Oh lordy... My Dad had a pair of shorts like that. I was sixteen and we were going to the Tack shop. Ran into my calf-roping crush. I don't think I have been more humiliated than that in the 45 years since.
The loafers bother me more than the shorts - if the shorts bothered me; which they don't.
Hey, I live in Texas, y'all...
If the body in the shorts is decent, and the length of leg starts somewhere just above the knee, then no harm, no foul.
And Trump just got free prime campaign time - and a nice platform to get out his talking points. Not that what was said with respect to any of the topics will make a bit of difference in the fevered brains of his haters.
I'm thinking of the scene in "The Irishman" where Tony Pro (Stephen Graham) shows up for a meeting with Jimmy Hoffa (Al Pacino) wearing shorts. Hoffa goes into full Althouse mode and rants about the shorts for the next five scenes. And those were WHITE shorts.
When you're independently wealthy and independently minded, you can wear shorts like that. My friend used to call clothes like that "Don't give a fuck shorts (or shirt or whatever)". Not my style, but god bless 'im.
Anybody who uses "Golf" as verb, doesn't play.
Anybody who uses "Golf" as verb, doesn't play.
Yes. Golf as verb is fingernails on chalkboard. Bless you, sir.
In my perfect world, I’d drop Kerry, naked, with a case of Botox in the middle of a Death to America demonstration...
After reading this who would like to take a run at explaining Trump's strategy in Iraq? Is his goal to withdraw all our troops, or is his goal to continue permawar in this country and the region?
His goal is to withdraw troops, but not in response to an attack on the embassy or similar action by the enemy, as that just encourages future attacks elsewhere.
Personally, I think he was advising them....
On behalf of whom?
Investigate John Kerry
John Kerry is friends with my neighbor. One day they sat at the table next to me in a hotel lounge. There were whispers and man giggles like two boys who just stole a pack of cigarettes. They ordered some beverages from the bar server with instructions that seemed to take 10 minutes. She came back with two highball glasses and two small pitchers of something. The pitchers were of the curvy style you might see a genie float out of. They poured the contents into the the highballs giggling and high fiving. The whole thing was creepy...
In hindsight it was about the time when they would have been solidifying the pallets of money deal with Iran.
There was a time when those very shorts were quite popular amongst the golfer set. A time when the Loudmouth apparel company did not yet but would soon exist...

Then why escalate the conflict so dramatically, making it difficult or impossible to withdraw for years, and making further conflict and a continuing cycle of tit for tat violence much more likely?
If my Dad wore those shorts, it would have been with a plaid shirt.
Trump, in my opinion, is trying to edge us out of Iraq and Afghanistan. There are lots of Obama generals whose careers will be affected. The American military has been top heavy with officers since WWII. Both German and British and American air forces had enlisted pilots in WWII. The German army had far fewer officers per thousand enlisted. Some of that top heavy structure is related to the wars we have been involved with. It was true in Vietnam and it is true in Afghanistan. There is a reason why Trump is meeting with enlisted only groups of service members,
The American military is the last holdout of the Industrial Age method of management where there are layers and layers of supervisors.
He didn't escalate it - Iran did with their killing of the American contractor and the attack on the embassy.
While withdrawing troops from Iraq, at the same time Trump needs to bomb the fuck out of Iran.
’Then why escalate the conflict so dramatically...’
I reject your premise.
The thin line between courage and colorblind.
To really complete the look you need black crew socks to go with the loafers.
Some might sport a white belt as well, but after all Rush is a conservative.
A pretty good analysis by Michael Ledeen.
There will now be an effort to show that the Iranian people have rallied to the support of the regime. If you look carefully at the faces of the mob at the funeral celebrations all around the country, you will see the same faces over and over again. That is because the regime can count only on the support of their own: the Revolutionary Guards, the Basij, bits and pieces of the army. Those unworthies will be on trains and buses from Mashad to Tehran, paid and fed by the regime, pretending to rally in support of the martyr. And the regime will beat its chest, threaten all manner of revenge, and continue with the old, proven methods of bringing pressure to bear on the West, above all taking hostages throughout the third world.
I have read that the IRGC camps emptied out for the funeral.
I reject your premise.
When presented with overwhelming evidence the Obama/Hillary/Kerry Appeasement with Pallets strategy is a failure, cognitive dissonance is the fallback strategy...

The people on the right who are genuinely against permawar (Paul, Carlson, Coulter) all see this latest move as a mistake that makes genuine withdrawal from the region more difficult. This would suggest either that Trump has no coherent strategy or that his claim to want withdrawal from the region is an empty one.
Shouldn't it be drudge is trying to get your attention? Hard to know which to prefer

He didn't escalate it
Most people would see killing another country's second in command as a significant escalation. If Iran had killed Pence or McConnell would you have seen that as an escalation of the conflict?
I think that qualifies as a fawning interview. Is there nothing that Rush disagrees about? What does he think about the deficit?
@ARM "Then why escalate the conflict so dramatically" I think winning a major battle is not called "escalating the conflict". This loser was obviously a very effective general and removing him is a major blow to the enemy. There are all kinds of possible results, but most of them start with Iran weaker and less effective.
Care about the deficit? Try getting the House of Representatives to do something about the deficit, ...and it doesn't matter if the Republicans or Democrats are in control either, both of them have "their people who donate" to satisfy.
They [the Eye-rainy-ans] took the $150 billion and they took the $1.8 billion in cash and they got worse.
Despite . . . [some well documented] financial [money-laundering] connections to Russia [through Bayrock Group and Deutsche Bank] . . . , Trump and his associates have consistently played down the relationship. “I HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH RUSSIA – NO DEALS, NO LOANS, NO NOTHING!”
Donald Jr., said: “In terms of high-end product influx into the United States, Russians make up a pretty disproportionate cross-section of a lot of our assets. Say, in Dubai, and certainly with our project in SoHo, and anywhere in New York. We see a lot of money pouring in from Russia.” In 2014, his younger brother Eric ...[was asked] where the organization was getting the money to buy up so many golf courses: “Well, we don’t rely on American banks. We have all the funding we need out of Russia.”
Notably the neocons all loved this escalation of the conflict. None of them want an end to permawar.
By now it is well known that Obama had only one purpose in the Fake Iran Deal. The deal was fake because it bound Iran to do nothing except give us their word they were not building nukes that they never stopped building.
But it disbursed the Shah's money our government had empounded since 1980. Getting Obama's hands on that lhat loot was the deal's sole purpose. He had to cut many Dems politicians and EU Leaders in on shares in the loot to get the deal through, and they wanted it in untraceable cash.
The reason those characters are so desperate to protect the Mullahs and their elite Quds Force Murderers from Trump's team is that the too "got caught."
Get off this fascination with the "pallets of cash." They no doubt paid for quite a number of Suleimani's "black ops," but the big deal for the Iranian state and its dreams of hegemony in the Middle East was the $150 billion.
"Most people would see killing another country's second in command as a significant escalation. "
It's not an escalation relative to an attack on our embassy.
Gadfly, now do the Bidens.
gadfly is certifiable in still holding out for the Russia hoax.
It's always nice to have a battle of wits with an unarmed man.
52 targets. Baskin-Robbins only has 31 flavors, so we're talking more than 1-1/2 Baskin-Robbins' worth. I'm down with celebratory ice cream after toasting terrorists, though. With sprinkles. Because sprinkles are for winners.
Interestingly, Carlson's views on this issue, whether or not you agree with them, are the most recent example that puts the lie to the left's and the LLRs/never-Trumpers talking points about Fox just being a parrot of the President.
ARM is being deliberately dishonest. He craves permawar, which is why decisive strikes that threaten to undermine the Iranian regime terrify him so. Withdrawing all of our troops from the region would of course be the gateway to major escalation of Iranian attacks on shipping/oil facilities, civilians and our allies in the region. Why anyone would want that is beyond me. Remember, they don't attack us because we're over there, we're over there because they attack us.
’Most people would see killing another country's second in command as a significant escalation.’
Reasonable people would see the attack on our embassy as a significant escalation.
Trump's goal is to win.
No Farmer yet? Someone go wake him up.
On second thought ...
Most people would see killing another country's second in command as a significant escalation. If Iran had killed Pence or McConnell would you have seen that as an escalation of the conflict?
We killed a General. A General that had been identified as a terrorist actor. The United States killed this General on the field of battle.
Any attempt at inane equivalencies, is stupid, or intentional lying.
Why did Putin want Suleimani dead? Trump would never do such a thing in defiance of Putin. What was Putin's overall plan when he ordered Trump to off Suleimani?
Interestingly, John Bolton and his CIA handlers have the same goal as the Iranian Mullahs. They both want to start a Bush style Iraq land war to finish the ruin of Trump and his getting great again fast USA. John Kerry is coaching them. And all the DC pols are pretending to be saving us from that mistake.
But that SOB Trump won't cooperate. He just keeps degrading Iran with an updated Curtis LeMay style campagne.
LeMay was so much better at War than everyone else was in the 1943-1945 era that he is to this day slandered and ridiculed for it by the other Generals that he exposed as fools. Sound familiar?
Who listened to the interview live? I did. Of course there was not one single hard question put by Limbaugh to Trump. No pressure to explain the differing versions of any targeting of Iranian cultural sites (with Trump, Pompeo and Esper all making different statements). No pressure on Trump to explain what was "imminent" in any threats related to Suleimani, and how the killing of Suleimani negated an imminent threat.
What I liked about the interview was how silly and demented it was. Toward the end, Trump mentioned that he had dinner "the other day" with Mark Zuckerberg, wherein Zuckerberg purportedly told Trump that Trump was "Number 1 on Facebook."
That news excited Rush because he had not heard about any recent dinners involving Trump and Zuckerberg and Rush mumbled something about how they were making news in the call. And Trump played along and suggested that perhaps they were making news.
And not long after, with Trump still talking, they hit the mark for the show's ending and the sound faded out with Trump still yammering away mid-sentence. It was the most awkward ending in presidential interview history.
But about the Trump-Zuckerberg dinner; it was in October of 2019! It wasn't any new-news; the news of the dinner had been widely reported last fall. And it seemed as though Trump was perfectly happy to have Rush think that the dinner occurred just the other day, even though an audience of millions knew better and that it wasn't news at all. Such a bizarre disjoint from reality; and such an odd little window into the false, lying, salesman's world of Donald Trump.
Lot of neocons on this thread trotting out the tired old insults.
I heard on the news that thirty five mourners were killed at the funeral. There was some kind of rush. Who will avenge those deaths?....On the plus side, if Iran can't organize a funeral without causing mass casualties, perhaps their military tacticians are not the best in the world. On the minus side, they've got any number of people who would jump at the chance to become a suicide bomber.
The people on the right who are genuinely against permawar (Paul, Carlson, Coulter) all see this latest move as a mistake that makes genuine withdrawal from the region more difficult.
ARM is trying to replace Freder as the field marshal. Maybe they are wrong. Paul has a long history of isolationism. Tucker is a contrarian, a phenomenon absent on the left. Coulter is a bomb thrower. She wants the border closed RIGHT NOW ! No consideration for reality. You use them only to support your left wing talking points.
Speaking of permawar, the Democrats want to remove the “wall” between the U.S. and the failed narco state on its southern border. Can you imagine ANYTHING more idiotic than that?
Note to ARM : permawar would be boots on the ground INVADING Iran. I don't see that happening.
Yes, John Kerry did advise them.
Yes, they did humiliate our sailors.
So, if Kerry advises people who do us harm, then --
I agree that it was not exactly the most hard hitting interview in the world. It ranks right up there with a Michelle Obama interview. Still, I've heard worse. Check out the Howard Stern interview with Hillary Clinton. You will never see a tongue bath delivered with such exquisite care.

The last time there was an actual budget that went through the budget process was 2008 under George W. Bush.
Nancy Pelosi ended the practice in 2009 when she became Speaker, opting for Continuing Resolutions. Boehner/Ryan followed suit.
ARM - Imagine if Trump had an opportunity to take a terrorist out, and he missed it.
Imagine your words. The words of the hack press.
ARM - Imagine queen Hillary had taken out The Iranian terror-general. You'd be really happy for her, we know.
Imagine if Obama had actually kept his promise and removed ALL troops from Iraq. Imagine.
By ARM's logic, shooting down Yamamoto was an escalation.
Khameini had just said "you can't do anything".
If in fact Trump had not done anything yet, the entire Left would be mocking Trump claiming he was proving Khameini right.
Just like they were screaming "Trump's Benghazi!" a few days before.
They behave like this because they want war, they're just on the other side.
1. When Iran attacks us, I certainly hope President Trump totally and completely destroys Iran's nuclear infrastructure. Reports that Iran is only 7 months away from a nuke. Trump might not win and President Biden would let Iran build a bomb. Hit'em now.
2. When Kerry is talking to foreigners, unmask the conversations. Samathana Power did it willy nilly.
3. How is Ben Rhodes earning money these days? It certainly isn't from book sales and MSNBC appearances. Investigate him. Did Iran pay him? Is Iran paying him now? Check his bitcoin account.
4. Something like 40 people got trampled to death at QS's funeral. I'll never forget the funeral of Kohemni. Great video. A frenzied mob got ahold of his coffin and ripped his corpse to pieces.
Those are our enemies. Savages. Inbred idiot religious zealot savages living in a country where the average income per person is $5k and declining.

I think the numbers are getting too large for normal people to wrap their heads around. As Stalin is reported to have said (but probably never did): "Ten deaths is a tragedy; ten million is a statistic."
I think George W.'s Treasury and assorted agencies did a good job of separating bin Laden from his money, and the sheikh wound up as the Pakistani ISI's guest in that decrepit "safe house," watching porn on his Sharp's 13" TV set with rabbit ears.
I think they likewise did a fairly good job of tying up Iran's financial resources around the world, but were reluctant to admit that this is what they were doing; practically as shadow war by diplomacy and financial muscle rather than gunfire.
Then the Obama administration went to reversing all of W's policies - for some possibly just as knee-jerk reaction, for others maybe with some idea that building up Iran as the hegemon power in the Middle East was the thing to do.
So, here we are, Trump reversing Obama's reversal, but having come to the conclusion that it is better to call a spade a spade rather than pussyfooting around.
Mad because Rush wasn't confrontational? Interview wasn't "hard hitting". Not enough pressure?
Fuck off.
He gets that crap every day from "news reporters".
Rush gave Trump the airtime to speak freely to his audience in a friendly setting for once.
Too damn bad if you don't like it.
No person cares about the President taking out Gen. Salami. All of the talking is nothing but an opportunity to slam the President. The only people upset are the "experts" that were not allowed to hold countless meetings and delivering to the President their "consensus" on what action is "appropriate". Just like Ukraine, President Trump is exercising his Art II powers in commanding the military, and conducting Foreign Policy. The End.

ESCALATION ==>>> somebody USA got serious about winning or at least degrading the enemy capabilities.
FYI, doc in Vietnam, the Army helicopter pilots were enlisted, went through basic, then became warrant officers after flight school. They advertised it in newspaper and magazines as High School to flight school.
“Then why escalate the conflict so dramatically, making it difficult or impossible to withdraw for years, and making further conflict and a continuing cycle of tit for tat violence much more likely?l
Dramatically? Yeah, those armored divisions crashing across the Iranianian border, those fleets of landing craft hitting Iranian beaches, the Iranian sky black with our squadrons. It’s just the awe-inspiring panalopy of War unleashed. Wait...what?...you’re talking about some terrorist shitbag getting droned in some shithole?
Never mind.
Bolton has been skeptical of conventional arms control since the 80s when he was forst in government it took 36 years to get to muhandis who directed the kuwait embassy it, it took 16 to get to suleimani.
That's right ARM, the masks of the "anti-war, anti-intervention" Trump deplorables has come off to reveal their true deep State neocon faces.
Mine fuhrer Uber alles

Rush, and President Trump acting in the own self interests. SHOCKED. I tell you, shocked.
Much like the mental midgets who think they have some say into how our most gracious host runs her hobby here, Rush,(the most successful radio talent ever) runs his show, his way. I don't pay attention to people I don't like. Give it a try. Lowers stress level to insanely happy levels.
I am still very hopeful that war can be averted. It most certainly should be avoided not at all cost but I would say a moderately high cost.
If the grease staining of the Iranian general was not provocative or an act of War then why is Benjamin netanyahu distancing himself from Trump's action?
They bombed our embassy, attacked the annex, took out our marine detachment then went after william buckley who was our ground coordinator and we did little back in the 80s,
Obama drone kills 4000 people, including American citizens: Deafening silence.
Trump drone kills 1 guy known to have killed hundreds of Americans: "OMG PERMAWAR NEOCON FUEHRER UBER ALLES!"

Is it innately hostile, to ask the President to explain what he meant when he was talking about targeting Iranian cultural sites? The President can say what he wants, especially in the friendly confines of Limbaugh World. Just be specific about it so that the nation and the world know what he is talking about. That's all. A wasted opportunity of an interview.
Along with losing some common-fashion-sense, Rush has also lost some weight.
Quinn: we all know that you are a PTSD afflicted combat veteran. I forget which branch, but thank you for your service. In any event you seem overly emotional on this topic. Maybe you should go to a meeting or something
Rush looks good, good for him. Maybe he can take a leadership role and helping the cure the deplorable obesity epidemic
Trump continuing to thank and congratulate Rush is awkward to chuck? I guess he's never seen television programs where the guest and host stand up, shake hands, and chat a bit as the camera fades to black. Chuck really should get out of his cocoon and experience life. For certain, neither Trump or Rush need chuck's advice on how to run a broadcast show. I doubt chuck has even managed a podcast or YouTube channel.
narisco is correct on all counts except for the fact that the deplorable hero Ronald Reagan did absolutely nothing but pull out and sell them arms so he could illegally fund death squads in Central America. Now that's true Christian love at its finest.
Carrying over from the other thread
https://mobile.twitter.com/MaajidNawaz/status/1214250534389141507
Trump tweeted that Iran will never have a nuke. Now is our chance.
DOD released video of OUR brand new F-35 jets. It showed 52 of them lined up on a runway in Utah. Send those babies over to Iran and vaporize Iran's nuke plants.
A number of traitors on Twitter are all in favor of Iran getting nukes. That's insane.
I guess you people are so blinded by your loyalty to the greatest con man who ever lived that you don't see the irony that just days ago you were lamenting about Howard Stern and his softball interview with Hillary Clinton
If the grease staining of the Iranian general was not provocative or an act of War then why is Benjamin netanyahu distancing himself from Trump's action?
What? You have a copy of a diplomatic communication between Netanyahu and President Trump? Do tell!
Why are people so stupid as to believe public statements for political purposes are exactly what these people are doing behind the scenes? Netanyahu statement is for public, political, consumption. To equate that with his direct communication with the United States reeks of naivete.
The Congress then was on thr side of the Soviets harkin kerry cranston
We’ve been holding back ARM. Over 600 US military killed by IEDs placed by Suleimani’s minions and Bush took NO action against Iran, would not even call them out. They are behind the terrorism in Beirut and Syria and Gaza and have been for decades. Trump showed restraint when Iran downed our drones. He specifically cited civilian casualties as the issue that caused him to call off strikes and issue a warning. When Iran killed an American crossing that red line we hit the IRGC (a military target on the field covered by current AUMF). When Iran escalated the conflict by an act of war, attacking the US embassy, we took out two military targets. This was a limited strike. Proportionate to the embassy attack. And contrary to all the DNC-Media pearl-clutching about escalation the only Iran response has been big talk and a rocket attack on an abandoned US ammo dump. That’s Iran backing down. This incident is the beginning of the end of the 40-year war. Internal pressures will soon override their external ambitions. You can cry “war” all you want but the apparent result is de-escalation.
Mattis: You won’t believe how Obama and Biden bungled Iraq and allowed the rise of ISIS
The other thing that's really interesting to watch iowan 2 is how you people twist yourself up into knots to defend Trump. Given that Solomano was a lean man, I'd wager that more blood and viscera were strewn than "grease." Given how full of shit Solomano was I'd wager that a fair amount of shit was strewn as well. Talk to the hand -- he'll tell you.
We hit a few select targets in a third country, the one that soldiers have bled and been maimed in order to hold, the so called iraqi govt would be back in paris or damascus or wherever if not for our efforts.
No you're right bleached bit bimbo. The world expects so much more out of Howard Stern than it does Rush Limbaugh.
The other thing that's really interesting to watch iowan 2 is how you people twist yourself up into knots to defend Trump.
Defending a President well within his Artical II powers as Commander in Chief?
I see people siding with Iran, and wanting to keelhaul the President. Why do you think a General in theater should not be killed?
No offense to Rush personally, but that's what I call the white douche uniform: polo shirt tucked into belted shorts with loafers. The only thing that could make it douchier is if the belt was braided, and the shorts were pleated. And that farmer's tan. Oh, it's a bad look.
Point taken, Chickelit. I shall heretofore refer to him as the fabulous exploding general.
I’m defending America, Howard. Any good President would have done as Trump did last week. That you idiots twist yourselves like DNA to insist UP is DOWN and killing mass murderers is wrong just amuses us. Trump needs no defense. His response was above reproach. Like whacking Bin Laden. Simple. Why can’t you see it?
I recently predicted that the future will happen. I would like to further refine this prediction: the future will happen only to those who are alive. Hence my further prediction that future events will not be organized or directed by Suleimani.....I think that Trump's long term strategic goal in ordering that drone strike was to kill Suleimani. Iran was blessed with only one general who could organize a two tank convoy down a one lane road, and Trump has now eliminated him. I'm sure that if Suleimani were alive he would be able to organize his funeral without causing mass casualties, but he has now been removed from the scene....Who will the mullahs be able turn to in order to plan a flawlessly executed response to his death?
And that farmer's tan
Not farmer--see the lines from the tennis booties?
Odd that his face stayed wide when his body thinned.
I never said that the bastard shouldn't be killed iowan 2. please search all of my posts since the fabulous exploding general met his demise and see if I at one time said that he was not a legitimate Target which I believe he was. But I'm not a cheerleader I recognize this as a very risky move that risks a huge escalation of war with Iran. I also recognize that this might be a catalyst for settling things down. Either way it's a huge risk and I do not want to see us get sucked into further escalation in response to the likely harsh Iranian backlash but you go on with your Disneyland cartoon picture of the world because Trump needs you now more than ever.

And Trump did not "play along and suggested that perhaps they were making news"....he did the opposite. He said that others had reported it:
THE PRESIDENT: Now, for Facebook, I had dinner —
RUSH: Of course they want you to stop.
THE PRESIDENT: I had dinner with Mark Zuckerberg the other day, and he said, “I’d like to congratulate you,” in front of a large group of people. So I’m not… (chuckles) But he said, “I’d like to congratulate you, you’re number one on Facebook,” and, you know, it’s incredible, and that’s —
RUSH: Wait a minute! Wait a minute. You had dinner with Zuckerberg?
THE PRESIDENT: I did. I did. I had dinner with him.
RUSH: Oh-ho! Wait ’til the world finds out about that.
THE PRESDIENT: Oh, I know.
RUSH: I guess they just did.
THE PRESIDENT: You have semi-breaking news. I guess a couple of people might have reported it but they’re not like you. So I just got a list, the TSL Power 50. The number one show on radio has a guy named Rush Limbaugh. Did you ever hear of him, Rush Limbaugh?
So Mike Wolfe when did you enlist? I enlisted in the Marine corps after I dropped out of college while the hostages were still in Iran. Of course it was just a meaningless gesture but at least I was willing to put myself in the breach even though our leadership was not up to the task of following through with the Iranian problem.
Stern fans have been lamenting Howard's descent into PC politeness for years. That's why they call him PC Howard, Hampton's Howie, etc. A lot of people blame the supposedly malign influence of Marci Turk, the COO of Stern's radio channels. She apparently came to Stern after he got involved in David Allen's "Getting Things Done" back in 2012, which many consider a bit of a productivity cult. In many ways, Stern is a very typical neurotic New York Jew. He has been in psychotherapy forever and is a TM devotee.
FYI I've been saying for the last 2 years on this blog that Zuckerberg is a trump supporter. It's an open secret in the Bay area liberal circles that I sometimes have an ear to.
“If my Dad wore those shorts, it would have been with a plaid shirt.”
I am tcrosse’s dad!
I get that the Cold war was the major engagement in that era, with latin america and southern africa as the major proxy fights.
I haven't listened to Howard Stern since the interview with John Wayne Bobbitt.
Stern probably didn't want to risk being suicided, Epstein-ed, or Matt Lauer-ed.
Narisco: the 220 Marines housed in the Beirut barracks in 1983 could not be reached for comment on the global strategery of their meaningless sacrifice.
Bleached bit bimbo from Babylon Beach. So what you are now saying is that at least Howard Stern had an excuse to be a suck up. What excuse will you make for Rush Limbaugh?
It took 25 years to bring mugniyeh to ground, by that time we had hired his handler general ashghari who provided that bogus 2007 nie report on iran.
ARM is being deliberately dishonest. He craves permawar, which is why ...
I have stopped reading his posts. There is no point in arguing with a deliberate liar.
How will knowing my bio make you any less of a douche Howard? I compared the Bin Laden and Suleiman killings and approve of both. Not so much the 15-year-old American kid Obama droned. How do you view all three killings?
You realize that this is all textbook behavior of mark's who fall under the spell of a Svengali or con man.
Howard, I try to avoid responding to you folks but tell me again about the guy with the styrofoam pillars and how the oceans had stopped rising.
Then, let's talk about cults.
Heh

As I said many times Mike I was very happy with the liquidation of the fabulous exploding general. I was also pretty happy when seal team 6 whacked Osama bin laden. I was also very much disgusted by Obama and his drone striking of civilian targets especially in Yemen which as you know is a proxy war between Iran and Saudi Arabia. So I assume since you like to defend America by fighting Iran, you must therefore approve of our murderous adventure in Yemen in support of the nation state that gave us 911. Why do you love America's enemies so much Mike?
Howard, I try to avoid responding to you folks but tell me again about the guy with the styrofoam pillars and how the oceans had stopped rising.
Then, let's talk about cults.
And all the children sing 'Mmm mmm mmm. Barack Obama's gonna save the World'
For someone who tries to avoid responding to me you sure respond to me fairly frequently, Doc. I hear Francisco d is an excellent psycho analytic counselor and I think he might be in Arizona near by you. Maybe you should seek some professional help to diagnose and cure the condition you suffer from.
Please Mike find one post of mine in which I am supportive of the CAGW hysterics. I have made it clear on numerous occasions that I believe these hysterics are harmful to the environment because it takes away focus from dealing with traditional toxic forms of pollution that have relatively inexpensive engineering solutions that are workable today.
If need be we reserve the right to respond, in the manner and quantity required.
The dems were in hysterics over yhe 50 advisors in el salvador that i Remember.
Mrs. stevew's maternal grandfather, a power industry engineer, was fond of wearing plaid shirts with striped pants when he and I would golf together. He never, in my nearly 20 years of know him, wore shorts. Whenever mrs. stevew has an objection to my clothing choices she calls it a "granddad outfit".
narisco: well, that's the rub. For the last 40 years we have been making a giant mess by Miss calculating the manor and quantity of our responses to Iran. You people make it sound like a simple problem. Apparently Benjamin netanyahu doesn't think it's all that simple. What worries me is that Benjamin probably has better human intelligence on Iran than President Trump. Hopefully Trump is listening to his cautionary advice.
“Cultural”
Iranian culture consists of using oil to extort the world and finance terrorism.
At least Rush merely got your attention. It could have been worse.
I believe the murdering of the priest in the raping of a nun's had also something to do with the so-called hysterics over our adventure in Central America in the 80s. One of the best things I learned in boot camp was about the United States Marine corps role in the banana wars from 1903 to 1933. Maybe you should read smedley Butler's book about it. they made it clear to us that he was the single greatest Marine who ever lived.
Personally Amadeus 48, I enjoy their magic carpet Rides.
Curious George:
I began my original comment on this page by asking who had actually heard the interview, on-air and in real time.
I asked that, because the Limbaugh-produced transcript cleaned it up. The transcript made it sound much more sensible and planned than it was. Limbaugh never even said goodbye to his audience. The producers just faded the two of them out, still talking.
And about the Trump-Zuckerberg dinner; I stand by what I wrote. Trump claimed that he had dinner with Zuckerberg "the other day." That is exactly what I wrote and what the transcript shows Trump saying. But Trump's dinner with Zuckerberg was four months ago. And Rush clearly did not realize it, and Trump clearly did not specify that it was the dinner that had been at first undisclosed, but was then the subject of stories from basically every major news outlet in the world, from The Guardian to Fox Business to AFP to Politico to The Hill to the British tabloids to NBC to The Times of Israel to Rolling Stone. The "story" was about 12 weeks old. But what Rush was clearly thinking was that the world was just hearing about it. Rush was thinking that the dinner had occurred in secret in Florida just days earlier. And that the news was being broken on the radio. Which was completely bogus. Rush thought that because of Trump's insensible claim that he had dinner with Zuckerberg just "the other day."
And what was the point of it all? For Trump to claim that he has been anointed by Mark Zuckerberg as the number one thing on Facebook? For Trump to be able to then tell Rush Limbaugh that Rush is the top-rated show on radio? Who talks like that? Hey, Rush; you ever hear of a guy named Rush Limbaugh? The guys who talk like that are senile old men whom you would never let fly an airplane or perform surgery or run your company.
These are the Trump stories that I really get into. Not any policy disputes where people can never even agree on the facts much less the outcomes. I like the Trump stories where we can see what a fundamentally brain-damaged, lying sociopath he really is.
ARM is whathappens when you channel Rachel “Madcow” Maddow.
A mind is a terrible thing to waste.
Bad assumption Howard. IMO the Saudis have enough training and equipment to defend themselves and should. Their recent regional alliance with Israel and Egypt is a good move. I’m not really a hater. And I’d never declare love for another country. Love is for people not states.
ARM said "Most people would see killing another country's second in command as a significant escalation. If Iran had killed Pence or McConnell would you have seen that as an escalation of the conflict?"
If Mike Pence was rolling along in a SUV with the head of Israel's spy agency and the former Shah's grandson through the middle of Hezbollah-controlled territory and was killed by an Iranian bomb, I'd have lots of other questions beyond whether or not this was an escalation by Iran.
Well Mike, it sounds like we agree on something. I hope I don't infect you too much with my douchiness. That sounds like some form of cooties that you would get from sharing the same opinion as someone who you normally are diametrically opposed to
A little late but here is audio of the interview
Xmas. When the news broke about the fabulous exploding general, people here cheered that Trump had the balls to take this guy out that no one else was willing to take out. Also popular opinion figured that Trump was calling their bluff by eliminating the most popular public figure in Iran. now you are in denial of the value of the Target because of the risks that the move poses. You people can't have it both ways I mean you can inside your own head when you think like a teenage girl hoping to get pinned at the Sadie Hawkins dance. But in the real world there are real consequences two making bold moves.
Its long over due, by 16 years, now its their move and we counter, but lets go gavk to peach mint.
Zuck and Trump had dinner October 23.
Chuck says that was "4 months" ago.
To spare you the math, that was actually slightly less than 2 and a half. onths before the Rush interview aired.
I guess Chuck just rounded 2.4 up to 4.
“It's an open secret in the Bay area liberal circles that I sometimes have an ear to.”
I knew it! There’s your explanation for the epidemic of human feces in the streets of San Francisco. Howard’s on the loose.
Dave Begley: "Inbred idiot religious zealot savages..."
You left out "wife-beating pederast" before "savages".
Islam dependably brings out the very worst of human nature. Great religion! Makes people worse! What's not to like?
Inclusion of the word "cultural" was simply trolling the Democrats/media to make them appear even more emphatically in support of their country's enemies. Always with Trump: watch what he does, not what he says. We are not going to nuke Qom.
Howard,
I'm not devaluing anything. Yes, this bombing was the equivalent of killing someone like a vice president or cabinet member (like the Secretary of the Army or the Head of Homeland Security).
I'm saying that if a person of that level had put themselves in a place near very unfriendly forces with people that had just been involved in an attack on those very same unfriendly people, I'd be questioning the intelligence of that person and the people responsible for their safety.
If someday a President goes on a secret Thanksgiving visit to Afghanistan and they get popped off by a roadside bomb, we aren't going to sit here and say, "The Taliban has really done it now!" We're going to ask, "WTF was that idiot thinking?"
Wasnt that newsweek reporter wanting exactly that. But suleimani is more like thr centcom chief.
I mean you can inside your own head when you think like a teenage girl hoping to get pinned at the Sadie Hawkins dance. But in the real world there are real consequences two making bold moves.
I think Howard might be into teenaged girls. Only on the internet, of course.
Howard, remember how Johnson never bombed Hanoi ? And what happened ?
Then Nixon bombed them and what happened ? Think about it.
Johnson though this was a game of chess, when the nva practice mma (no rules barred)
Quick, someone get Howard his meds. It's not even midday here on the east coast and he's already acting like he's got rabies or something.
He thought calculated moves would be rewarded in kind, not if thats not the enemy objective
Much the same rules apply with the talibam (of course they had al jazeera as their public relations firm and the levick firm)
Well doctor, that turned out well. The United States went on to win the Vietnam War and they became a productive capitalist Nation and democracy living happily ever after.
Save your breath you're going to blame the defeat on Congress for not funding the South Vietnamese army.
That got them to the table, now failure to abide by the accord was a different matter.
Ok Xmas. Would you agree that this was a provocative bold escalating move? I think it was and baby Trump is right and it will cause the Iranians to back down that's my hope. A lot of people are worried that it will spur Iran's military adventurism. No one knows what's going to happen in the future but to deny that this was a risky move is just plain silly.
Maybe you should seek some professional help to diagnose and cure the condition you suffer from.
You could take your own advice but I do try to avoid you. It is tempting, though. Trolling is what people like you do to attract replies.
Fortunately, there are other blogs with intelligent discussion uninterrupted by trolls.
Well doctor, that turned out well. The United States went on to win the Vietnam War and they became a productive capitalist Nation and democracy living happily ever after.
Lying about the 1974 Democrat Congress after the successful coup doesn't make you right. South Vietnam was probably lost when Kennedy and Cabot Lodge took out Diem but the Democrats rejoiced in seeing them fall.
Moyar certainly suggests as much when halberstam relied on a vietcomg agent then holbrooke to harriman relied on those reports.
TT Chuck, I'm aware that they cut away early, that's not my point. The transcript is correct, and I took exception with your description of "yammering away". He wasn't. He was being gracious and congratulatory to Rush.
And you can spin it all you want, your "mind reading" is ridiculous. "The other day" means nothing more than recently. I think it was clear that Trump knew that Rush did not know that the event happened, or forgot, and didn't want to embarrass him.
The fact that you find a "gotcha" on two points that are so innocuous is so telling. But then again you are reserved to being some pissant loser traffic court attorney.

South Vietnam was probably lost when the French lost Dien Bien Phu in 1954. At least Ike knew better than to interfere.
It was not inevitable that the nvawould prevail as moyar proves, neither that the ahah would fall.
When I heard cultural sites my thought was their biggest soccer stadiums, not some ancient archeological site. Or even that great arch built by the Shah, called the Azadi Tower. But who knows? Secretary of Defense Mark Esper says all that is out. I think Trump was being rhetorical anyway.
Kind of like the Ayatollah "weeping" at the funeral of Soleimani, lots of facial gestures but no tears.
Howard and J.Farmer are saying that we have irrevocably escalated the war. How so? The war is not escalated until Iran responds.....I believe they're the ones with the existential crisis on their hands. If they do something too bold, they risk annihilation. If they do nothing, they appear weak. I don't know what will happen next. It's Iran's decision. They have a great many reasons to make a minimal response. Of course, no one in that part of the world is famous for their calibrated responses, but the Iranian mullahs have the salubrious examples of the neighboring states in Iraq, Syria, Libya, Yemen to guide them in their thinking....I'd be interested to hear what J. Farmer or Howard think Iran's response should be.

Weve been down in the third quarter, for a long time, we finally score a few touchdowns and the refs call fouls
What I really meant to say was that October 23 was just "the other day."
Pedantic parsing of a person personal speech patterns, is a game only village idiots find amusing.
What you really meant was to lie in order to make your idiotically pedantic point seem slightly less idiotic and pedantic, Chuck.
What Howard REALLY wanted was a strongly-worded cable sent to Tehran, whining about an attack on our embassy, to make Trump look weak.
What Howard DIDN'T want was for Trump to make a baller move and kill their most "revered" general/terrorist/scumbag.
Howard knows a weak Trump loses 2020. A strong Trump wins 2020. That was Trump's ultimate sin - strength. There is no other conclusion based on a clear reading of his posts.
Anyone who sees this as a serious escalation is ignoring the Iranian attacks that we let slide, and ignoring their attempted sacking of our embassy in Baghdad. Anyone who really thinks Iran has the moxie to hit us back with anything close to the consequences of Soleimaloney's death is engaging in wishcasting and might just be rooting for Iran to best Trump. All for the sake of 2020, of course.

Howard: "Save your breath you're going to blame the defeat on Congress for not funding the South Vietnamese army."
Well, it is absolutely true that the democrat controlled congress refused to provide material support to the South Vietnamese army when the commies began their last major offensive.
The question is: would the material support have truly enabled the South to hold off the advancing NVA? Almost certainly for awhile.
But we'll never know since the dems voted it down and left the South to dangle....and when the NVA finished off South Vietnam it was not with a ragtag army of revolutionaries (the North saw to that when they ordered Tet in 68 to wipe out VC leadership and potential rivals.
No, when the end came for South Vietnam it was by Soviet supplied heavy armor and mechanized infantry rolling right down Highway 1 into Saigon, just as you would expect.
Howard -
Rush Limbaugh is a conservative, you idiot.
Stern isn't a political personality like Rush.
If Rush wants to interview Trump - so what?
Ever watch maddow give Hillary a tongue bath? you should. The Howies like that sort of thing.
They prefer them all like that, or brian wiliams toadying to obama, the masks are off.
Drago: "No, when the end came for South Vietnam it was by Soviet supplied heavy armor and mechanized infantry rolling right down Highway 1 into Saigon, just as you would expect."
Ssshhhhhhhh!!! Howie still wants to believe that it was a "people's uprising" that finally conquered South Vietnam (oh, and that the Tet Offensive was a major US defeat). You're killing his joy, dude!
William: no I didn't. I said it was a very risky bold move with the potential for both upside and downside. I've said that over and over and over again. I disagreed with Jay farmer on the day that the news broke and yet some of your compatriots continue to link us with the same opinion. I don't know what it is with you people who are so afraid of any contrary opinion to your own. It really does make one Wonder.
Do you feel lucky?

Rachel maddow giving Hillary Clinton a tongue bath was the scene that sunk the movie cats
I have no doubt there is some truth to that Drago. however every Vietnam vet that I ever talked to had absolutely zero confidence in the South Vietnamese army
The soviets and the chinese never stop their supply convoys.
Banned Commenter LLR-lefty Chuck: "Curious George: I began my original comment on this page by asking who had actually heard the interview, on-air and in real time."
I did. Which is how I knew you were lying about the supposed cutoff since I heard the sign off. In addition, I heard Trump downplay immediately the idea this was breaking news when he called in "semi-breaking news" and that others had reported on this before.
So, as usual LLR-lefty Chuck, who proudly proclaimed his purpose here to be purposely smearing and lying about Trump and driving a wedge between Althouse and her readers, was up to his usual tricks.
Fooling no one. Not even the lefties who despise him but keep him around because he serves a purpose.
Howard: "I have no doubt there is some truth to that Drago. however every Vietnam vet that I ever talked to had absolutely zero confidence in the South Vietnamese army"
Dude, I have little confidence the South Vietnamese Army could have won since the Soviets and ChiComs and Cubans were "all in" and the US congress and different administrations will always waver and waffle.
Ken burns seems to have learned nothing since 1975.

Oikophobia on steroids
I don't remember all the details, but this reminds me a lot of the media response to President Reagan's dealings with Russia. All of President Reagan's actions, proposals, diplomatic tacks, were an abomination. Terrible, moving the nuclear clock just seconds away from doomsday. Starwars was fiction, and only riled up the USSR. Just the USA asking for Russia to strike us.
bla bla bla,yada yada yada.
But Russia was weak, not strong. They talked, but lacked anything to support their rhetoric. Russia collapsed of their own hubris.
Compare that to today. The left is assuming I have not been paying attention to the riots in IRAN. They have been going on since 2018. Iran's economy is in ruins, the people are fed up with Government. While a wide swath of America is not up on the internal dissent in Iran, Iran itself is painfully aware.
I have a very hard time attempting to figure out an escalation by Iran, that does not run a vary good probability of that escalation, being turned against the govt, by the people.
The people of Iran are a much greater threat to the Mullahs, than the United States
So now we see the former President Obama's true Iran deal! Solamani's own daughter granted USA citizenship. Moreover, other high ranking leaders in the Iranian regime also granted USA citizenship. Would I be surprised if I learned that the Ayatollah's kids were also granted USA citizenship - no. Obama's tenure as President of the USA is the singular worst smudge on our governments ability to handle this idiotic Iranian regime. Only God knows[ because the MSM stopped being journalists and cheer-leading this Chicago pol] what else this loser of a Chicago politician gave away in his appeasement deal. Nothing is off the table with this politico Obama - including authorizing spying on the Trump campaign.
Oh and to further illustrate Chuck's mendacity: While the dinner was on Oct 23, it wasn't reported about anywhere until November 21. That would be about 45 days ago.
Chuck referred to that as "widely reported last fall". Which is technically true in that winter didn't officially start until about two weeks ago. But just like Chuck magically derives "4 months" out of "less than 2 and a half months", he refers to news reports from 6 weeks ago as "widely reported last fall". Everything twisted and corrupted and actively lied about to give the impression of a far longer time frame than reality.
All to get Trump. Cause Trump is a liar, dontchaknow. Chuck could prove it any old time by telling us straight what Trump said without embellishment or straight up bullshit, but he prefers to mix in bullshit into his arguments just because. Or something. I'm sure it makes sense to Chuck.
Cubans ran the interrogation program at thr hanoi laogai. There was a soviet traimed iraniam doctor who did the same in baalbek to william buckley
He was the son of an iranian army officer, trained at plu, the recruiting pool for terrorists (allegedly khamenei was a member)
The best Trump moments are when Trump blows up the carefully placed and cultivated lefty/LLR-lefty narratives that are all teed up for big-time amplification in the media.
For example, the Ukraine hoax call "problems".
And now this. The dems/LLR-lefties had teed up a series of talking points ready for big media launch which are exemplified by dem Sen hack Chris Murphy's tweets over 48 hours:
dems/LLR-lefty hot take 1: Trump is weak and feckless in the Middle East and that's because Iran is a Russian ally and Trump will never go against his controller!
dems/LLR-lefty hot take 2: OMG Trump is creating another war against a russian client state which will lead to the most massive ME war evah!!
And, mind you, this was within 48 hours.
If you are looking for comparable historical events and lefty/LLR-lefty flip flops, besides every single reversal the dems/LLR's have pulled on every issue related to Trump in the last 4 years, then I suggest the American communist movement's flip from "No War In Europe" after Hitler/Ribbentrop completed their pact with Stalin/Molotov to "Second Front Now!!!" the moment Hitler invaded Russia in 1941.
The American leftists literally switched their entire world view, talking points and list of "absolute truths" at the drop of a hat....because that is what their commie pals in Russia wanted.
And nothing on the left has changed.
BTW, there are a number of good books about Hollywood at that time where that particular action by the left began a reevaluation of communism/socialism by stars and led many of them over the years to migrate to the republican party.
One of those stars was Ronald Reagan.
So, when we witness lie after lie after lie by Admitted Smear Merchant Chuck, I ask myself what young reader of blogs sees this nonsense and begins to lay the groundwork for something bigger in response to Chuck's obvious, repeated and shameless lies?
In the full arc of history, Vietnam has evolved into a capitalist-crony economy, and its leaders seek closer ties with the United States. America made some great sacrifices for nothing. Vietnam made even greater sacrifices but for what? Is it always fitting and proper to die for one's Marxist cause....Are the people of Iran substantially better after the fall of the Shah. The Shah spent money on silly luxuries, but that's nothing compared to what the mullahs spend on their nuclear program. The people of Iran were blessed with a war with Iraq that would not have happened if the Shah had remained in power.I understand that their casualties in that war were similar on a per capita basis to what France suffered in WWI.
There are some perks to being allied with the United States.....I again repeat my earlier question: what in your estimation is the responsible response that Iran should make to Suleimani's killing?
Qwinn, I mentioned all of the news outlets that featured the Zuckerberg dinner story because Trump said, "a couple of people might have reported on it but they're not like you."
Well, just about everybody reported on the dinner, but Rush was mystified because it wasn't "the other day" as Trump claimed.
It's that same old thing with Trump. He's a salesman. He's lying all of the time. He's exaggerating; he's making claims that can't be supported. It's why, whenever anything matters, Trump needs to be under oath and under cross examination.
BTW, does anyone know what John Kerry has been discussing in his many many meetings with Iranian govt officials (the last meeting being just 2 weeks ago in Paris).
Hmmmmm, John Kerry, who has told the Iranians to wait out Trump and not cooperate with the US...meets (Again!) with Iranian govt officials 2 weeks ago in Paris.....and the Iranians move forward with their plans to attack the US embassy in Iraq.....right about the time the dems/media have teed up a "Trump is weak in the face of Iran"/"Trump's Benghazi!!" series of talking points....
Hmmmmm.......
I mean, the dems/LLR-lefties wouldn't be running around telling foreign nations to help them oppose a republican president, now would they?
I mean, that's never happened before, right?......(Kennedy/Soviets, congressional dems/Sandanistas, and on and on and on)
Hmmmmm, maybe there IS a precedent for that...
Hmmmmm.
The resentment of poor exists in unstable countpoise with the smugness of the wealthy. I forgot to mention that the Vietnamese did get the joy of confiscating the property of their wealthier ethnic Chinese neighbors. They also got the satisfaction of sending them to re-education camps or driving them into exile. There is no satisfaction on earth that compares with making rich people miserable, especially if they are of a different religion or ethnicity.
William: "In the full arc of history, Vietnam has evolved into a capitalist-crony economy, and its leaders seek closer ties with the United States. America made some great sacrifices for nothing."
Funny anecdote.
After the US left Vietnam and the commies took over, the commies needed cash and the Soviets need to make use of the significant naval base capabilities at Cam Ranh Bay, so they did.
Fast forward about 20 years and the Vietnamese come hat in hand back to the US to ask the US if they needed to lease portions of the base!!
One of the funnier comments made by the Vietnamese? The Soviets are just Americans but without any money!
America made some great sacrifices for nothing.
Right for the wrong reason. America made great sacrifices and then the Democrats stabbed the South Vietnamese in the back by refusing any aid and letting the Commies take over in '75. That made it all for nothing. Then 20 years of misery until the Commies figured out how to cash in by "liberalizing" the economy Chinese-style.
Rush just said he wouldn’t be surprised to learn that Americans were being paid by Iran to support the Iran deal. See my comment above re Rhodes and Kerry.
