"I said that we have to have 'Where's Hunter?' as a witness. They said what do you mean 'Where's Hunter?' I said that's his first name. I have now made his first name 'Where's?' Where's Hunter?"

Said Trump last night at his rally in Cleveland.

Slow Joe should make Hunter his running mate. After all, he was a Naval Officer and went to Yale Law school!

But, for some reason he makes his money not serving in the military and not practicing law. Why is that?

I really REALLY hope he means it that Hunter will be called as a witness.

Exposing the Democrat corrupt kickback and money laundering via foreign aid racket is paramount. Utterly crucial. That it will completely undermine the impeachment is just a bonus, not even the main motivator.

An interesting article on Nancy's plan for impeachment.

It was John Dean's idea !

A new piece in Time magazine does shed some light on the thought process behind Pelosi's decision to refuse to hand over articles of impeachment to a Senate whose majority doesn't want them. One of the most interesting nuggets in the piece isn't that Pelosi -- portrayed as courageous risk-taker -- had gotten the bright idea from CNN; it's that she specifically got it from noted felon John Dean, Nixon's former White House lawyer. Now, Dean is often portrayed as a patriotic, whistleblowing impeachment expert -- which is true insofar as he planned the Watergate coverup, and then informed on everyone whom he conspired with after they were caught. His real expertise is cashing in on criminality for the past 50 years.

I have long believed that Dean was really the architect of the Watergate burglary. He was worried that the DNC had the goods on his former "escort" wife, Maureen. Chuck, of course, will accuse me of spreading this on the internet, but it's been known or suspected for decades.

It appears the dems/LLR-lefties (like Chuck) are freaking out over the failure of their Queen God Nancy to leverage the moronic Articles of Galactic Sham-wow-peachment to any great effect in the Senate.

It's hilarious watching the same dems/lefties/LLR-lefties who swore up and down that there has never been a more brilliant and amazing and fantastic and superlative and incomparable Speaker of the House than Nancy Pelosi now falling all over themselves explaining why this complete and utter defeat of Nancy by McConnell is really 147th Dimensional Political Chess by Goddess Nancy and why it spells certain doom (DOOM I tellya!!) for Trump in the Senate!

BTW, anyone else notice that as of late, while McConnell has been smacking LLR-lefty Chuck's dem pals around like they were 1940's screen actresses, LLR-lefty Chuck has been much more reluctant to carry on his typical FakeCon "Oh I actually totally support McConnell" schtick?

Yep. Don't hear much from LLR-lefty Chuck about McConnell anymore.

This is especially true in the last year when I believe the dam finally broke and lots and lots of republican Senators, who had been on the fence about Trump because the Republican Senators simply could not believe the CIA/DOJ/FBI/NSA would really set out to frame an American President, came to see that is exactly what was done by LLR-lefty Chuck's beloved dems and obama-ites.

Think back to 2017/18 when all we heard from Chuckie boy was how much he respected and liked McConnell and we all needed to get behind McConnell to advance "republican" causes and fight against that horrible OrangeManBad.

But since the Mueller report....nothing from Chuckie about McConnell!

The jig really is up for you, isn't it Chuck? There is no more cover for you. Nowhere to hide any longer.

Couldn't have happened to a nicer FakeCon.

When it was all exposed as typical lefty/LLR fakery LLR-lefty Chuck simply moved on.

And now we have this amazing story that Nancy Pelosi, LLR-lefty Chuck's Speaker Dreamgirl, got her idiotic "hold on to the Articles for-ev-uh!" idea from convicted felon and huge lefty/LLR hero John Dean during a CNN Democrat Team Meeting.

Of course, we already know that is fake since all the strategy and ideas for how to frame Trump come from the far far far left radical and marxist "Lawfare" Group that LLR-lefty Chuck religiously links to.

His illegally published emails were private conversations that were largely misrepresented by the President.

Hunter Biden worked for a Ukrainian gas company, but his greed is far less obvious and his political power doesn't get close to those of the President. Biden's son, of course, is outside the items of impeachment .

And now, Lucid-Ideas: you’d rightly ask, “Racist? What is Chuck’s history as a racist commenter? He was banned for being a racist?”

The answer is that I was never “banned,” and never blocked for any racism, and I have never posted any racist commentary. I once satirized Trump, disparaging some of his executive branch appointments even as I congratulated Trump on his nomination of Gina Haspel at CIA. And I ridiculed “Dr. Ricky Bobby” for Veterans Affairs or Dr. Ben Carson for “Department of Black People.”

I was ridiculing Trump executive choices. I have met Dr. Carson, decades ago, when he was an expert witness in a medical malpractice case. I thought he was brilliant, and that he was nice guy as well. And I said so on these pages.

We’ve been over this more times than I can count, and Althouse hates this sort of personal back-and-forth between commenters with no relationship to the topic of the blog post. But my detractors keep repeating it. I don’t know why Althouse tolerates it from them. It assuredly is not me that continually repeats these personal diversions. And it isn’t even like I have so many attackers here that Althouse’s blog would fail if she banners them all. It really is just a handful of freaks, typified by and led by Drago, that regularly and routinely cause what you see on this page.

I know this has been discussed a lot in earlier posts, but I want to remind everyone that the reason for calling the Bidens as witnesses in impeachment has nothing to do with embarrassing them, or the Democrats, or making the argument that people other than Trump are bad actors. The reason for calling the Bidens as witnesses in an impeachment trial is to investigate the the question of whether or not there was a legitimate policy rationale for Trump to offer a quid-pro-quo to a foreign government to persuade the foreign government to take an action that would benefit Trump politically. If there is (was) no legitimate policy rationale then what Trump did was almost certain impeachable, and for anyone except the crazies, indefensible. But the easy clear defense is that Trump was pursuing a legitimate policy rationale -- to seek assistance in an investigation of corruption and misuse of funds in the administration of US foreign aid. Testimony from the Bidens would provide information about the prima facie case that there was such corruption and misuse of funds. So, to follow this line of defense: first call constitutional law scholars (including those who testified before the House committees) and ask them whether or not it is an impeachable offense for a president to offer a quid-pro-quo to a foreign leader to persuade the foreign leader to take an action or make an announcement that is helpful politically for the President, regardless of whether the President is pursuing a legitimate policy objective. If the experts say "yes" (which I doubt any would) ask if Truman's offering to stop bombing in return for Japanese surrender was impeachable (if anyone answers yes to this, he is just exposing himself as stupid.) So the experts will agree that what Trump did was not impeachable if he was pursuing a legitimate policy objective. That testimony then provides a basis for opening up the Biden question.

The audience knows it, and appreciates it.

Good comment, I wish you would show up here more often. I would question this small part though.

"Testimony from the Bidens would provide information about the prima facie case that there was such corruption and misuse of funds."

Wouldn't suspicion, given the existing facts at the time, be enough? Shouldn't Trump try to get investigations into past and present signs of corruption on a reasonable suspicion of such, regardless of whether or not the Bidens testify. Just a question of Presidential duties, not whether it is politically expedient. Do you need to prove the Bidens were on the take first?

I agree with pacwest in that there was *obviously* enough grounds for legitimate suspicion for Trump to ask Zelenski what he did. Even if Hunter has some hidden bizarre skill that would justify his ridiculous salary at Burisma, there's stil the ironclad, admitted, videotaped fact that his father shut down a prosecutor investigating the company. The *appearance* of corruption is undeniable, and alone was enough that the grounds for impeachment were always farcical. The Dems knew it, too, or they wouldn't have prevented House Republicans from participating in the hearings, on the obviously bullshit grounds of "too urgent to waste time on your witnesses and cross examinations!". A one sided star chamber was the only way it *could* get as far as it did.

The reason to get Hunter on the stand is to force the media to talk about it. To force the obviousness of that appearance of corruption into every living room in the country. And since he IS so patently guilty, let's prove it, and get him and a few dozen other Dems (and any Reps involved too) thrown in fucking jail where they belong.

My favorite bit from the bottom of Inga's second link. They clearly saved the best for last!

"In February 2018, Don Jr. traveled to India in an effort to sell more than $1 billion worth of luxury residential units built there by the Trump Organization and its partners. According to the New York Times, advertisements heralding Don Jr.’s visit read: “Trump has arrived. Have you?” Rajiv Bansa, a salesman at one of the properties, predicted that the younger Trump would have little trouble moving the inventory on his whirlwind tour of the region. “Everyone in India knows who the U.S. president is,” he told the Times. “It’s a status symbol. This is a big brand, the president of the United States’ name will be on it.”

When the Times asked the White House if Don Jr.’s sales visit presented “even an appearance of a conflict of interest,” the White House declined to comment."

Except you know what's missing from that entire little story?

Even an appearance of a conflict of interest.

Your story of living with pain from bone spurs is such a moving story. The treatment must have been a trying experience. And memorable. Was surgery involved? You must feel extra sympatico with President Trump’s debilitating (at least, militarily) bone spurs. Does Trump recall his treatment? Or who treated him? For how long? With no surgical intervention? Any treatment at all? Does Trump remember if it was his left foot? Or right? Or both? Funny how such a thing — so traumatic for you, understandably — is something that we never, ever hear Trump talk about.

thanks pacwest for the kind words. And I think Qwinn has most of what I want to say in response. I think Schumer (et al) wants to argue that we need testimony, but we don't need testimony from the Bidens. What I see is that any testimony (starting with the legal experts) ineluctably leads to testimony from the Bidens. And (as far as I can see) we already have prima facie case justifying further investigation: US govt gave money (aid) to Ukraine govt; Ukraine govt gave money to Burisma; Burisma hired younger BIden for a do-nothing job. But to rebut anyone who says "Trump had no legitimate policy intent," that prima facie case needs to be put on the official record.

Qwinn said...

I also think it's hilarious that Inga's link screams corruption because Ivanaka managed to sell a property for 13% more than it sold last year. But Burisma paying Hunter Biden FOUR TIMES what a board member of Exxon gets paid wasn't even worth mentioning.

readering: "I would put it differently. Trump just says stuff. No sign of high IQ. Just impulse."

Let me suggest that the problem with your point is that IQ measures a certain thing, Q, which often measures something interesting. But there are a lot of different intelligences. My partner has a lightning fast mind, with a photographic memory. She easily got straight As in HS, and with her brother, were the state champion debaters in HS. I would bet though that I outscored her on IQ tests. What I do decently well at is pattern recognition and analysis. I also do well at spatial analysis. She literally can see many times as many colors as I can, can instantly recognize hue, tone, etc. She can’t understand why I don’t remember things (I tell her because she has enough memory for both of us). But then she is disinterested in SpyGate, the mechanics of the fauxpeachment, etc. I met a woman online maybe a decade ago discussing autism and ASDs. She had apparently been in the top 10% of her class at HLS, but couldn’t pass the bar. It worked out though because her husband did pass, sat first chair, and they had a great litigation practice. Whatever case they tried, she always knew all of the relevant law, cold, better than anyone else in the courtroom. Is she smart? Or an idiot because she couldn’t pass the bar. My partner’s best friend (a lawyer) has for almost 40 years told her that she should have become a lawyer. She probably could have been successful in court, but I doubt that she would have done well on the tests. Probably much better in Medical school. I expect that I would have flunked out of med school, due to my inability to memorize.

My point here is that Trump’s Intelligence is probably hard to measure. He is accomplishing more, and more good things, than any of his recent predecessors. He has a genius for seeing and exploiting weaknesses in his enemies that may be unparalleled. Of course, coming after President Mediocre, Barack Obama, who was only apparently good at engendering government corruption, is a pretty low hurdle. He has given us amazing economic performance. There is now a new world order, with North Korea coming out of the cold, Russia diminished, China stalemated, Saudi Arabia allying with Israel on security, and now Iran isolated, with a collapsing economy and restive population. And their ability to ferment terrorism and jihad throughout the Middle East was significantly crippled by his taking out the Quds commander. It was done masterfully, on Iraqi soil, with 2 AUMFs in place providing legal cover, and ended up with no collateral damage to US interests, and Iran taking a hit internationally, having shot down the Ukrainian 737, through what appears to have been gross incompetence. All in the face of unrelenting attacks by the Deep State, Democrats, and the MSM.

Trump’s public performances are epic. He is a better standup comic than most professional comics. He assigns nicknames to people that stick. Crooked Hillary may be angling to run again, getting the nomination from a brokered convention. But that isn’t going anywhere because of that nickname. Crazy Bernie. Pocohauntis. SLO Joe, Pencil Neck, Etc. Or his famous comedy routines, like playing both parts, of Lisa Page and Peter Strzok, with heaving breathing, etc, hot and heavy, reciting segments of their infamous text messages. He senses weaknesses, and jumps in to exploit them.

Is he stupid? I don’t think so. I think there is some genius involved in his seeing how to approach North Korea, China, Europe, and now, very visibly, Iran. Everyone who was anyone knew that he would fail, at each step along the way. And, yet, he saw the vulnerability, that made success possible, if not likely, then jumped in and exploited it, without the months of study that his predecessors would have required.
