"He was blatantly, proudly racist when I was a kid.... Said things I would never repeat. He treats women like dogs, including his own daughter.... The deputy [who actually got the cups marked 'PIG']  told my mom he didn’t really care and that it was a harmless joke, no big deal... but my father is a camera whore who couldn’t resist the attention.... update: he has seen it and had someone call my mom to ‘get that s–t off twitter’ lmao he is upset."

MissMara needs to get over herself. Her dad didn’t get the PIG cups, someone else did. And why does the fact that she hates her dad make it ok for a Starbucks employee to use the company brand to insult the police?

Cops in my experience are like sergeants major or Department of the Army civilians: either toxic or wonderful. I’ve never known a mediocre one, of any of those.

Crappy thing for the Starbucks employee to do. I’m glad the deputy could shrug it off as a joke (if he did), but that’s still wrong.

I’m sorry for the daughter that she goes through life with this level of bitterness toward her father. I’m sorry for the father, if he’s not a straight-up monster, that his daughter views him this way. But damn, I’d be embarrassed to air family grievances like that over the Internet.

If the deputy thought it was no big deal, just a harmless joke, and the others weren't bothered by it, how did her father hear about it? If no one cared, they would have just drunk their coffee. (I doubt the chief is in the same room as the dispatchers where he would just overhear them saying, "Haha, someone thinks we're pigs for giving up our holiday to help people in emergencies! Lol!".)

I agree that things have changed, but there are still a lot of really good guys in cop cars out there. For example, last summer I was stopped doing 10 over the limit on a city street. It was a Saturday afternoon about 5:30. I'd been changing the oil on my wife's truck and I'd gotten the wrong oil filter. Shit. So I was trying to make it back to NAPA before they closed. They aren't open on Sundays and I wanted to get finished so Linda would have her wheels. The cop asked why I was speeding so I told him.
He looked at his watch and said, I think you already missed them. But then he said, Let's see, pulled out his cell phone and called NAPA. After he hung up he said, yeah they're closed, but Vern says he'll be there a while yet and he'll help you out. Just knock on the glass when you get there. Then he told me I better get going and to drive carefully.
So I got a filter, but no ticket. That was pretty friendly and helpful. I have a couple other stories like that which come to mind now that I think about it. I didn't get pulled over those times, but both times cops went out of their way to help me out.

Dad taught us kids to treat cops with nothing but deference and respect. Of course we were taught, through word, and modeling by our parents, to respect ALL our elders. Dad always said, with any authority figure, respect and obey. Any unproper behavior by those persons we should take back to our parents, and they would correct any perceived wrong. BUT, no matter what, our parents supported our behavior...as long as it was defendable. (but if were were in the wrong, we would hang twice)

Most probably Starbucks employee didn't know any facts about the Police Chief and 4 others. She just defaulted to pigs.

BTW, can't wait somebody selects a medium size city, say, 500k-1m. Take all those smartasses who complain about police and let them fully staff and run police department. Then we'd see after a few years how well they'd be doing.

If you've never met a cop who wasn't totally straight and courteous, well, good for you. It's possible, I guess, if you seldom have to interact with police officers. On the other hand, if all the cops you've met are brutes and fascists, you might want to re-evaluate your own attitude.....If I have a bad experience with a person of x appearance, am I entitled to label all people of x appearance as pigs?

Anonymous said...

I have met some cops that were very nice, but I always show deference and respect. Can you imagine having a job where every person you interact with will lie to you? Criminals, of course, but every speeder has "story". Every time you walk into a store or pull behind a person in traffic they clam up.

Also, lots of cops are people that get off on the power trip, it is always good to show deference to them because they got guns - an qualified immunity.

It's hard to generalize about cops - as in every profession, there are good and bad. I come from a family with lots of cops. They're mostly ok working class types. One is a highly professional, even-tempered sergeant. Some of them have worn PIG (pride, integrity, guts) pins on their lapels, but departments have mostly nixed that.
Get a few beers in them and you'll hear some hair-raising stories about what they do to "bad guys" who may or may not deserve what the cops dish out. I've been tossed out of the jury pool more than once for being honest about my thoughts on the police. Both the defense and the state have nixed me.

There are some real shitheads on the force, but still I draw the line at dehumanizing cops. Like any stereotype, the Pig epithet is probably wrong more often than not.

I think that this whole thing is just another consequence of unintended consequences by the left. We now have a name for what happens when the public doesn’t support the police - “Ferguson Effect”. We essentially have two modes of policing: where the police rush to the danger, to the sound of gunfire, and when their priority is finishing their shift alive and uninjured. We saw a good example of the consequences of this with the Broward Coward, Scot Peterson, cowering and holding the perimeter at Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High, the school that he was assigned to defend, during the school shooting there. Several of his fellow officers, first on the scene, stayed outside with him. It was officers from better motivated jurisdictions who first entered the school in order to confront the shooters.

Police can be broadly separated into two groups: sheepdogs and time clock punching bureaucrats. And community support is a significant part of why you have one or the other in a PD. Think about what triggered the troubles in Ferguson. Big Mike Brown and his partner, experienced criminal Dorian Johnson had just committed a strong arm robbery of a convenience store, when officer Darren Wilson happened upon them, swaggering down the middle of the street, high as kites. Brown punched Wilson, and tried to take his gun away from him. Wilson managed to shoot Brown in the hand, and Brown took off. Brown, having thus attempted murder on a police officer, Wilson took off in pursuit. Brown turned and tried to attack Wilson again. Ultimately, he died, as a result of justified self defense by Wilson. Wilson, the sheepdog, survived. But Johnson, realizing that he was now potentially liable for the felony murder of his partner, Brown, starts the “hands up, don’t shoot” fake narrative. It worked. Instead of going to prison, where he belonged, he was never charged. Instead the young blacks, mostly from fatherless households, rioted. The community supported the rioters, and not the police. And, as a result, the city is a more dangerous place to live, because so many of the cops, unappreciated by the community, are now time clock punchers, instead of sheepdogs.

I think that we are in an era, where lack of support for police and active policing is resulting in a destruction of public order in a number of (esp) controlled cities. Human excrement on the streets in San Francisco and Seattle. 3rd world diseases rampant in LA. And NYC is very likely to follow.

One of the realities of life is that adolescent males, driven by their raging hormones, must determine their limits. Traditionally, those limits have been supplied by their fathers and the older males in the community. But thanks, in particular, with LBJ’s War on Poverty, fatherless child rearing has been subsidized now for better than a half a century. And when you subsidize something, you get more of it. Thus, in the Black community, out of wedlock births have soared from 1/4 to 3/4 during that half century. Many of the resulting boys rarely, if ever, had a strong male influence in their lives, setting the limits that adolescent males need in order to become productive members of society.

That is where the police have traditionally come in, providing a backup to the father’s who should have primary responsibility for civilizing their sons. Providing the limits that adolescent males require in order to become productive members of society. But in many minority communities these days, the police are prevented from doing this by that community. The result is uncivilized young men running as feral juvenile packs, terrorizing and preying on the larger community.

The results should have been predicted. Crime and violence have skyrocketed in these areas, Dem controlled inner city minority neighborhoods, while violence throughout most of the rest of the country continues its long decline. And part of the difference is a result of how differently the police are treated.

I was in a jury pool where the entire pool was tossed because of what many of us thought about lawyers and plaintiffs in obvious insurance fraud cases. The judge said, "How many of you have been sued ?" All the hands went up. Doctors and building contractors.

Sometime cops are racist. Sometimes their discernment only causes them to be vulnerable to the characterization.

Back in the day (pre-Obama, pre-Holder), when the DOJ/BJS were permitted to gather such data, it was clear that black males who were six percent of the population committed 50% or more of the violent crimes. More recently, it is apparently “racist” to amass that data or for police to notice and react to the reality of it.

Instead, the “reality” publicized by the leftmedia and academe is that black males are incarcerated “disproportionately.”

This is also known as 2+2=5.

We can avoid them most of our lives, but some people have to face them, confront them, stop them and spend their day doing it over and over, becuase it's the job we give them so we can live without having to face that shit. They can't just run away, or avoid them, or call someone else to deal with it. They have to go right into that mess, that filth, and face whatever crazy dangerous shit the worst among us can dish out.

You keep dragging us down with stories about the problems in your communities, with your culture and in your families. We are sorry for your realities. We don't share them.

We prefer to live in more civilized communities. Stop pretending that the black man's troubles are the (successful) white families' burden to bear. Things are good for us, our families intact, our bills paid. We donate to charity, but we resent constantly being told that others are responsible for you, your community, your culture and your family's troubles.

Emulate successful people, families and cultures, even if they are white and you resent their greater success than yours. Try to live in a better reality, like the ones you are bitter against do, instead of dragging whites into your own sad version of "reality"?

God bless. We're praying for you to help yourself. And congrats on helping your nephew. Family support surely goes further than government help, or casting your burdens onto unrelated white people.
