And please consider using the Althouse Portal to Amazon.

Trump has won.

Got the Dem story from MSNBC. Playing on the stationary bike next to mine at the gym. You’ll be shocked. Here goes. Trump forced us to impeach him. We had no choice. Now, the bastard is threatening to turn this into a show in the Senate. He’s even threatening to call the Bidens, Schiff, Steele, etc., as witnesses. This is a constitutional crisis. Mitch McConnell has an ethical duty to summarily dismiss the impeachment charges and never allow them to the Senate floor. Otherwise, the very future of the U.S. is threatened. Really.

Dems are calling on McConnell to bail them out. Trump has won.

Your reportage has been great, professor. Thank you.

I'm watching, as well. I was channel surfing and it looks like the most entertaining thing on. Speaking of the Moonlight Café, my son and I just went to the New York Pizza Parlor down the street and I pointed out to him how distinct the moon was in the sky at 5:00 p.m. It's like another planet when it appears like that in the pre-sunset sky. By the way, I went to a live Trump rally in Madison, MS pre-2016 election. He spoke in the high school gymnasium and we gathered on the football field with most of the people and watched on a big screen. The gymnasium was packed with people who stood in line all day. This was when Cruz was still in and we stuck around for the pre-Trump activities and until he started his Bible thumping, lying Ted routine, and then headed out. In my opinion, Trump and Clinton is just what we collectively deserved for letting the culture go to hell but Trump has turned out to be better than we deserve.

Barr explains his disagreement with the IG report with regard to the predicate to Russiagate investigation among other topics. Also how the IG investigation and that of Durham differ. While he disagrees that there was adequate predicate for the Carter Page FISA warrant, he argues that the more serious error was that the investigation continued well after the point where it was clear that there was nothing there. And it was justified by false statements to the FISA court along with the withholding of exculpatory information, among other things.

Well worth a look.

And drop the top at Chesapeake Bay
Ain't nothing like the sky to dose a potion
The moon'll send you on your way
Moonlight feels right
Moonlight feels right
We'll lay back and observe the constellations
And watch the moon smilin' bright
I'll play the radio on southern stations
'Cause southern belles are hell at night
You say you came to Baltimore from Ole Miss
Class of seven-four, gold ring
The eastern moon looks ready for a wet kiss
To make the tide rise again
Moonlight feels right
Moonlight feels right
We'll see the sun come up on Sunday morning
And watch it fade the moon away
I guess you know I'm giving you a warning
'Cause me and moon are itching to play
I'll take you on a trip beside the ocean
And drop the top at Chesapeake Bay

I've been listening to the excellent British podcast, The Political Party, and I'm repeatedly struck by the parallels between this week's British election and the path of American politics since 2016. The host is a Laborite but of an altogether more rational sort than his American co-ideologues. His guests of the Lefty ilk are fascinating to listen to. They seem to have no idea that insisting on a do-over of something that was democratically decided is in any way anti-democratic. And, beneath all the English politesse, they're consistently letting slip their contempt for their own electorate. I'm guessing the Tories are going to handily get their working majority. Not because they're loved, but because the other guys simply lack the self-control to keep wearing the mask.

I enjoy watching the interviewers on LBC (Leading Britain's Conversations) take on all guests and grill them regardless of party affiliation.

These interviewers, some of who I know to be very liberal, are generally rigorously fair and can effectively argue all sides of an issue so they know just how to probe and elicit great reactions.

This is not the case with the BBC, etc.

@Ritmo,

Here's the transcript of Trump's "disloyalty" talk:

And I think it would be a very bad thing for Israel, but Israel has to do what they want to do. But I would not cut off aid to Israel. And I can't even believe that we're having this conversation.

Five years ago, the concept of even talking about this - even three years ago - of cutting off aid to Israel because of two people that hate Israel and hate Jewish people - I can't believe we're even having this conversation. Where has the Democratic Party gone? Where have they gone where they're defending these two people over the State of Israel?

And I think any Jewish people that vote for a Democrat, I think it shows either a total lack of knowledge or great disloyalty.

Trump isn't talking about Democratic voting Jews as disloyal to the US. He's talking about them as being disloyal to Israel. There's no discussion of loyalty to the US in what he's saying. It's all about Israel.

I can't see how that's anti-Semitic in the least. Trump is just saying that the modern Democratic Party is now actively hostile to Israel, and so why would supposedly pro-Zionist Jews support it?

One can disagree with these assertions being true or not, but they in no way constitute a use of the old "dual loyalty" trope. Matter of fact, lots of Israelis would say the very same thing about the allegiance of American Jews to the Democratic Party.

Trump isn't talking about Democratic voting Jews as disloyal to the US. He's talking about them as being disloyal to Israel.

It doesn't matter, Spin Doctor. The entire concept is foreign, anathema. It has nothing to do with rational decision-making pertaining to one's legitimate interests or self-preservation as an ethical nation. That's why it was used so effectively against minorities among the Christian and Islamic anti-semitic empires throughout history where such a concept did have a meaning and a place. The word has no positive benefit whatsoever - except for unifying people to a violent or tyrannical cause.

I can't see how that's anti-Semitic in the least.

I'm sure you can't, just as I'm sure you can't see how anything else he's done or said is anti-semitic. But the actions of Robert Bowers and the increased violence tracked by ADL speak for themselves. These things are facts. Intentions might matter to an invisible savior or judge or whatever, but the actions/words are what they are - and they kind of matter more. The consequences of them are plain to see for anyone living them. Whether it's a shooting victim or whoever else affected by the rise in attacks seen since 2016.

Matter of fact, lots of Israelis would say the very same thing about the allegiance of American Jews to the Democratic Party.

And I'm sure that just like all the other Jew wanna-be's on this blog and in the Republican party, you're one to know. Because American Jews should poll Israelis and ask them who they should vote for - as if individual choice or voting against the same illiberalism or repressive ethno-nationalism that Washington rejected at the Newport Congregation should somehow be less important to minority groups in America who are now told that white nationalism is a great thing - either by Americans or Israelis who delude themselves into thinking they can nuke Iran.

Learn to embrace reality.

Yes, it does. The words matter. Their plain meaning matters.

I mean, what are you rambling on about? "But the actions of Robert Bowers and the increased violence tracked by ADL speak for themselves. These things are facts." Yes, they are. But not the facts you want them to be. The increase in anti-Semitic violence in the US has little to do with the right-wing of any sort. It's mostly blacks & Latinos or Muslim. On campus, it's crazed lefties. That's the facts, even if clowns like the mayor of New York have to deny them even as they stare him in the face.

You do this over & over again, Ritmo. You get challenged and you start waxing self-righteous & the ad hominems start flowing, e.g. "you're one to know." Yes, I am. Because I know the ideological origins of Zionism (19th C German philosophy, you know, that "Younghegelian" business) better than any Jews outside of history departments, know traditional Jewish theology so well I can discuss it with rabbis, and Jewish history because, well, it's hard to do Christian history without it.

It is not antisemitism to not reflect back to liberal & lefty Ashkenazi Jews their prized self-image on demand. I mean, the magazine "Commentary" doesn't & it's just a bunch of conservative Jews. Jewish history is a long & complicated business, and a lot of Jewish man on-the-street assumptions about it just ain't so.

Then use that as a starting point - assuming it matters to you. And here's another starting point: The change started in 2016. What happened in 2016?

But not the facts you want them to be. The increase in anti-Semitic violence in the US has little to do with the right-wing of any sort. It's mostly blacks & Latinos or Muslim.

So electing Trump led to more blacks/latinos/muslims killing more Jews - is that what you're saying? Wow, what absolution that provides to Trump. Unifier, indeed. Talk about the argument not being what you want it to be.

You do this over & over again, Ritmo. You get challenged and you start waxing self-righteous & the ad hominems start flowing, e.g. "you're one to know."

Hey, I like to be right. Guilty as charged. If you prefer being wrong however, then far be it from me to express admiration for your self-wrongness. Extol it all you want - this self-wrongness of yours, it's not my place (or that of anyone arguing with you) to think better of you for delighting in how wrong you are or like to be.

Yes, I am. What an irrelevancy in which to adorn yourself.

It is not antisemitism to not reflect back to liberal & lefty Ashkenazi Jews their prized self-image on demand.

And it makes no difference who I meet
They're just a face in the crowd on a dead-end streetAnd the sun don't shine anymore

Well, I just can't keep
Just like the gambler says:

Since you've gone it's a losing battle
Stampeding cattle, they rattle the wallsAnd the sun don't shine anymore

How's that primary going?

Trump was interesting about the impeachment - the charges are flimsy, the whistleblower has vanished, Pelosi probably regards it as a disaster but she isn't running the party any more. Then on to the need to take back the House. When I remember the other two impeachments and how I would read the paper closely and then put it down and stare off in the distance and ask myself what the evidence was and whether there has been a "high crime." And next day more and more like that for days on end. But I regard this impeachment as a fake and feel that I'm being as gullible as they think I am if I pay attention. Trump is right when he says get out the vote and get rid of the clowns. And, at long last, the Republicans in the House and Senate are rallying around Trump.

chickelit,
She would only be the Democratic primary frontrunner.

It's pretty great that Democratics are sacrificing the House to throw a tantrum.
Or, as I like to call it: Ritmo-style!!

I guess that being an mpotent frontrunner tops (or equals) Bill if the Hubble data were true.

Beyond Hillary, whom does team-D have?

Bruce Hayden said...

“ Beyond Hillary, what does team-D have?”

I think that their best choice is Mini Mike Bloomberg. He is more moderate than most of their candidates. He has a decent record as NYC mayor. And he can self fund, which he is already doing. His ads push job creation, which most of the other candidates cannot credibly do with their anti-business, anti-fracking, pro tax, and pro environmental wacko proposals.

"Major League Baseball Lifts Marijuana Ban."

That's only relevant to the minor league. The major league players were already free from marijuana testing.

Sun's up. Ritmo goes to bed.

The New Jersey shooters are still not identified.

Hmmm. Has Freder heard about this yet ?

Who there is an incident like this and no names or photos appear for a day.....

The Kosher store was the target, it sounds like militant Amish again.

They have: New Jersey Shooters

A male and female, both black supremacist anti-semites.

Michael K said...

The New Jersey Shooters were members of the same group that set off the Covington kids confrontation.

too bad the FBI has its head up its PC ass

as long as a kid taping up "It's ok to be White" flyers garners the punishment and FBI scrutiny instead of a lethal, black supremacist, anti-semitic group...

...then you can expect more of each

The Black Israelites have been a bad news cult full of evil crazy people for as long as I've been alive. Once upon a time they kept their rantings and ravings to streetcorners; I guess they have more lately branched out into the drug trade and cop- and Jew-killing, but I always knew they had it in 'em.
