The sunrise run. Actual sunrise time, 6:57.

Meade takes a picture of me at 7:08...

At 6:53, we heard the trumpeter swans off to the west of the beach, and I stopped to take a photo and somehow caused them to stop trumpeting (or I would be showing you video of this)...

At 7:06, the fog and the reflection in the lake got me to stop again...

Apparently trumpeter swans are one of the largest and heaviest birds in North America

From Wikipedia
The trumpeter swan (Cygnus buccinator) is a species of swan found in North America. The heaviest living bird native to North America, it is also the largest extant species of waterfowl with a wingspan that may exceed 10 ft (3.0 m).

I guess albatrosses must not be considered "waterfowl".

I've bought hundreds of things from Amazon ever since it started, even back to when the postal rates went up a penny and they mailed out a free book of one cent stamps to everybody; or the year of the free Amazon mouse pad before that (a mouse pad which I still use). Long time. Huge shopping profile. They know what I like.

So why if I ask about polartec mittens do I see page after page of women's mittens and gloves.

Hung velvet overtaken me
Dim chandelier awaken me
To a song dissolved in the dawn
(Bygone, bygone)
The music hall a costly bow
The music all is lost for now
To a muted trumpeter swan
(Bygone, bygone)
Columnated ruins domino
Canvass the town and brush the backdrop
Are you sleeping, Brother John?

Talk about a witness's demeanor,I have never seen a more obviously nervous liar than Ambassador Sondland. He is near panic trying to please two masters. One would suspect that Soros has some powerful blackmail in use on him.

trumpeter swan

That's the kind of swan Trump would be if he were a bird except that it doesn't tweet, it honks.

And delicious!

'Take superchef Mario Batali, please. "I have a lot of friends in Michigan who hunt, and we once ate a swan at Christmas nine or ten years ago," he tells AF. "It was delicious — deep red, lean, lightly gamey, moist, and succulent," '

And yet, for all the sound and fury, he hasn't actually claimed Trump did anything wrong.

(1) He claims Trump pressured Ukraine to investigate Biden and Burisma. Well, if he had reason to suspect Biden and Burisma were up to no good and the Ukraine was in a better position to investigate, then that's fine.

(2) He says there was a quid pro quo. He doesn't know it, he has no evidence, but he believes it. Fine. Is that wrong? Of course not. Now if the quo was that the Ukraine find wrongdoing regardless of the evidence, that would be a problem. Maybe even an impeachable one. But Sondland said nothing about that.

Sorry, Ms Althouse, but Meade did not take a picture of you at 7:08 AM.

He took a picture of a rustic trail leading into the woods, of tall trees in various stages of mid-Autumn denudation topped with a frosty sky. There is a tiny human figure approaching the viewer. The contrast between the muted colors of nature and the human's maroon coat and white gloves is mildly striking.

It is a good and nicely-composed picture. But it is not a picture of you.

Morning run? You still run, at your age??

I'm a long time runner who now talks about "going for a hobble". (I believe we are very close in age.)

Same with same stupid product suggestion outcomes.

My favorite was the time Amazon suggested I buy my mother-in-law The Book of Mormon for her birthday.

No, Hurricanes Are Not Bigger, Stronger, and More Dangerous

A fatally flawed paper on climate science passed peer review at a significant journal. The result has been a polluting of our discussions of climate science and policy.

There's a lot of that kind of polluting going on lately. How did it become so fashionable to destroy any and all semblance of integrity just for a political outcome? Even if you believed you could capture the judiciary and render elections moot why would you believe people would accept it?

The Queen has summoned Andy and strongly suggested he should step back from public life. He was allowed to make it look like his own idea, but it wasn't. A sub poena is imminent for him to testify about his friendship with Epstein, who did not kill himself.

“ Morning run? You still run, at your age??”

I just started in September. I didn’t think I was able to run. I mean I never did, even when I was young, but for a few reasons I wanted to do it and figured out how.
