Badgers!

Huskers lost. Much sadness.

Creighton got blasted by 31. Tonight we play Texas Tech that was second last season and is top 20.

Not a big fan of Black Friday. Lots to be thankful for, though, during this lovely season.

I think back years and years ago to the first time I understood that what hoi polloi call Black Friday is actually called by the billions of souls who cares about such things, a billion times more accurately:

"Day of the first sunset that is followed by legitimate Christmas lights"

Of course it sounds better in the original Tagalog, but I do not claim to be a translator of genius.
"dyen' pyervovo vecherinka sontsa poslyedovana nastoYaschimi svetilnikov rozhdestVA"

Anyway, may I wish to all the Althouse Commentarial a happy and healthy and bountiful "Day of the first sunset that is followed by legit X-mas lights"

Great Thanksgiving Day. We spent all day of fellowship with the taller and taller grandchildren, the lawyer son and his wife, and her parents and brother and his wife and their three kids, and several Lake Oconee neighbors and their kids. It's a big house. We ate the meal at 6:00PM and all we had to bring was wine. Then we spent the night. But by 9:30 this AM the dau-in-law and grandkids left for Phipps Plaza to see Santa. Actually they dress up for the photog pictures. We left and were back home 24 hours later and felt we had spent a month of time. Oh, they also have two new dogs, both from Ireland.

Cooper, a sense of all things being connected and in harmony? Is that another way to describe it?

No, Hawkeyes won. Much joy.

stephen cooper said...

Quayle - I think you are right.

I have not had many joys in life, but that was a really good Livermore Valley 1998 vintage merlot, and when I saw that little cockroach swimming around in the glass of merlot I had been looking forward to all day, almost drowning, I felt such pity in my heart, I am not a good enough person to know how good it feels to know what such compassion feels like, and God only knows how the world would be different if I had just had an ordinary gag reflex, and had let the little creature drown instead of humbly fishing it out of the Reidel glass, and walking it out to the sidewalk with the SUVs and the happy people with their Black Friday hauls and the achingly beautiful Christmas lights.

YMMV. Everyone I know has had similar experiences, I am not alone in this.

Bringing adult son back from ER. Bad abdominal pain off and on since August coupled with serious weight loss turned into very bad pain. Tests, x-rays, and sonograms all negative. He already had an appointment with a gastroenterologist so he was released and told to be sure to keep the appointment.

I thought those sons of mine were through scaring me!

Sorry to hear that big mike

sorry Big Mike, I hope the doctor is a good one, or that whatever is wrong works out without the necessity of a good doctor.

Sorry to hear. I had similar symptoms 20 years ago, gall bladder. Painful as all get out, but fixable.

I had kidney stones once, never forgot it.

I just watched the first episode of The Mandalorian.

Three impressions:
(1) "There is nothing new under the sun" is an aphorism. Writers are not well-advised to adopt it as a plot point.
(2) The series owes a considerable debt to Sergio Leone. I doubt if any payments have been as of yet.
(3) The post-Imperial galaxy is even dirtier and more loathsome than when Grand Moff Tarkin was running the Outlands — not unlike the certain quarters of the former British Empire.

And the weapons are for shit

Big Mike said...

@Ken B., thanks. ER doctor used sonogram to examine liver and gall bladder non-invasively. He thought they looked good. H. pilori test was negative. Doctors are stymied.

So Thanksgiving weekend halfway over and it already appears everything POTUS said about resumption of talks with Taliban was BS. Next.

I took a look around and didn't see anything about this. Do you have a link? Or is this just readering being readering?

Terrific Thanksgiving, as usual, this time at daughter's house. Smaller group than past years but that just gave us more time to visit with each other. Watched football, ate food, went for a walk, ate some more food. The only politics we talked about was in response to Tom Steyer and Michael Bloomberg ads. The kids (all in their 30's, Independent or slightly Left) were bemused that these two very rich white guys are spending their money to, supposedly, pursue the Democrat candidacy. Lots of anti-Trump messages in these ads, so I asked, why do you suppose they are badmouthing Trump when the task at hand is to defeat the other Democrats who want to be the nominee? I said, they all hate Trump and want to defeat him, so how are Steyer and Bloomberg advancing and differentiating themselves? Hmmm, they mused, interesting point. Perhaps they don't really want to be the nominee? Then there was a good discussion of what those two are actually up to.

Then we watched Buffalo beat up on Dallas.

Went for a walk on Crane Beach yesterday. Wind was blowing pretty good, 15-20, and surf was up. Cold but refreshing, ample sunshine.

I love this time of year.

Test for Giardia, especially if any camping/hiking in August and drinking water from lake/stream.

CT scan next. Good luck.

Good luck Big Mike. About 12-years ago, our daughter had severe abdominal pain for about 6-months before they discovered it was stricturing Krohn's disease. The local docs were stumped it wasn't until we got her in the top doc at UCSF did they figure it out.

Keep working the problem, you'll get it done. All the best.
