A vivid new Trump ad.

Effective, I think:

It's a pretty good ad because it gets right to the point. People who post here tend to be well educated and well informed (and mostly rational).

The average voter (well educated or not) is not very well informed. They listen to the MSM in the background while they re doing other things. They need to hear the other side. This ad helps in that regard.

Everyone who either already supports Trump, or who has an open mind on the matter of this impeachment effort. I can guess from your question that you want Trump impeached. The ad isn't directed at you, it is about you.

Wince said...

Should have called Zaid the "so-called whistleblower's lawyer".

Anonymous said...

There is nothing about what he has accomplished, this is just trying to keep people from leaving his flock.

It is aimed solely at his sycophants and makes it clear that they are very concerned about keeping everyone on board. If you already drank the kool aid, then this ad should help vaccinate you against reading about the impeachment witnesses or thinking for yourself.

I don't see how this is effective to anyone who isn't already buying the snake oil.

Still, maybe it will be effective. It's certainly accurate.

They really didn't think this through, and still refuse to do so. If they do vote out articles of impeachment, they're going to have to get a minimum of a dozen votes from Ds in districts that Trump won. Trump will campaign heavily in those districts, reminding the voters that Nancy and company explicitly ran on NOT impeaching Trump. Nancy runs a very serious risk of losing the gavel.

If it goes to the Senate, more Ds will vote to acquit than Rs will vote to remove. Again, red state dems - or even purple staters - are going to look at their careers and think "how did we get into this mess?" The red state dems will vote to acquit.

All the while, any remaining senators that are running for president are forced to sit silently for a month during prime campaigning season. Idiots.

Granted, there may be a pony mixed in with all this horseshit - somebody may come up with some genuinely damaging testimony - but there's no evidence of that it exists so far. They'll have to produce a smoking gun "plant some evidence on the cokehead" statement to change things.

Some of the commenters here seem to think an ad is effective only if it changes their mind. But the current thinking in both parties is that elections are usually won by motivating your own base, and that kind of "raw meat" messaging just about precludes converting people. So, yes, the ad is effective in that it accomplishes what it sets out to do.

Compare the whole impeachment kerfuffle for the last 3 years--same thing, it motivates the anti-Trump base and changes exactly zero minds. The benefit of Trump's approach is that it is only an ad, not war against half the country. Which is why for all his faults in style, Trump is far more of a patriot than the entire Democratic and MSM leadership in Washington and New York, who are, frankly, seditious.

Francisco D said...

The red state dems will vote to acquit.

I suspect that they do not want a trial and will offer Cocaine Mitch the sun, the moon and the stars to avoid a public spectacle.

Then again, the DNC/MSM party is desperate and pretty crazy. Their followers will believe what they are told, as evidenced on this blog. The question is whether there are enough moderate swing voters with open minds.

Upon Trump's election they told me it was an affront and mortal threat to our constitutional republic. They were correct, but had the threat backwards - it is them not Trump.

I was not pro Trump, simply anti-Hillary. I live in MA and so did not bother to vote for POTUS in 2016, it didn't matter to the result, and was my way of having a private tantrum or protest.

Having seen what the Democrats have done since Nov 2016, and learning of what the life-long government functionaries did during the campaign to attack and undermine Trump, I am now a full on, 100% Trump supporter.

This is an effective add for folks like me.

Now I'll crawl over broken glass to vote for Trump. I'll even hold my nose and vote for every Repub on the ballot, even the bible-thumpers, just to teach the Dems a lesson.

I dunno. The overly dramatic music. The same voice over used in 100s of other political ads sounding like he's telling you that God is about to come to your house to buttsmack you. At this point I think a political ad would have more impact if maybe they used the same imagery, but inserted the voice of Emo Philips, droning over some flowers-in-meadow-music.

Granted it would be weird. But I'm thinking it might be the kind of thing you cannot take your eyes away from. As is, I cannot watch anyone's political ads. And the more they play them, the more I hate the candidate who is paying for it.

A few thoughts from my friend Matthew:

“Watching impeachment hearings over the last week I am struck by similarity to so much in life: there are lots of people weak or worried about losing prestige to stand up for what is right, and then there are a few people with strength and courage to stand up for what is right.

At this moment, as an American who loves this country, can we all watch these hearings and not game out who is winning and losing and who benefits politically. This is a somber serious moment for our country. And can the media not look for microwave takes.”

Background to the ad:
The FBI IG report of Strzok has been released and is at
https://theconservativetreehouse.com/2019/11/19/fbi-releases-internal-opr-report-containing-details-of-peter-strzok-investigation/

Unlike many reports, this is a good read and only 27 pages long. It's especially good after you get to the part where the report lays out a long set of quoted texts between Strzok and Page showing the bias against Trump and how it worsened as Election Day approached and after. How Strzok and Page began to talk of preventing Trump from being President and then of bringing him down after. Then the report explains what Strzok was charged with, administratively, by the FBI; and how he defended himself; and how the FBI responded to that defense. The report states that Strzok "immeasurably harmed" the FBI by mishandling two crucial investigations - the Clinton e-mails and the Russian interference (the dossier was first investigated by Strzok) and it details how he mishandled them. It also points out that by doing nothing to investigate Wiener's laptop and the 675,000 thousand e-mails on it from September 28 to October 29, Strzok almost forced Comey into Comey's statement made very close to the election and thus Strzok by his misconduct may have affected an election outcome.

Then comes the punishment for immeasurably harming the FBI and messing with an election - a 60 day suspension and a demotion - clemency asked for and granted because it was first-time offense. My God, what if Benedict Arnold had thought of pleading his clean record and his single offense and been demoted to Colonel with a sixty day suspension?

It's pretty shocking what Strzok has gotten away with and it harms the FBI still more to read about it. But the report is still a great read - smooth, clear, quick. I think this is the influence of Bill Barr because I notice these qualities in what he says and writes.

There's a lot of reluctant Trump 2016 voters here. I switched my registration from non-partisan to R so I could vote for Cruz in the Oregon primary.

To say I say was anti-Clinton is too kind. Without a complete examination, I think she is the worst, most corrupt candidate for president since at least since Aaron Burr, which is pretty much all of them. Most of Burr's transgressions were in his bitter loser phase, which is different.

But, faced with the binary choice, I was in for Trump. As I listened, I heard protect our southern border, renegotiate unfair trade deals, reduce regulations, and cut taxes, especially corporate taxes to bring us closer in line with the OECD average. Trump was anti-PC and supportively Christian.

By November, even though I knew he was a short-fingered vulgarian, I voted for him enthusiastically. I am not disappointed.

To be a bit more accurate, they also yanked Strzok’s security clearance, and he couldn’t go back to work until he had it reinstated. And that probably wasn’t going to happen, after repeatedly sending classified information using a commercial email ISP. He never did.

It's only depressing in the abstract, if you're smart like me and literally never watch TV. (And I mean the terms 'literally' and 'never' literally here.) No cable, no antenna, nothin'. The only TV I ever see is a brief YouTube clip now and then when someone links to something and the thing seems compelling enough (and this amounts to "hardly ever", fwiw.)
