"She caught her fiance sexually assaulting a bridesmaid, police say. They got married anyway."

I only clicked through to that WaPo article to see how far into the comments you have to go before someone analogizes the fiance to Trump and the woman to his voters.

The first comment went up 6 hours ago. At 5 hours ago, you get: "This doesn't surprise me. After all, look who Melania married." Which produces: "Not relevant but funny"/"I think it's relevant. It shows how low women will go to get their man"/"I think you mean it shows how low Republicans will go to protect their man"/"Doubt that Melanie 'went low,' considering her profession and background. A perfect union of an idiot and a 'model' out for the cash. And an instant immigration citizenship card for mommy and daddy...and herself"/"Other than the nude pictures, and the photo shoot arranged by Trump, has anybody ever seen any shots of Melania 'modeling?'"

Orange you glad you don't have WaPo commenters? Or do you...?

I'm surprised it took that long, considering the source. I'm a little surprised they went after Melania first, but not at all surprised that they went after her.

TDS is worst among WaPoo readers.

This stuff about Melania reminds me of the attacks on “Ahnuld” — Arnold Schwarzenegger— when he ran for office. People didn’t know he had built a multi million dollar business from nothing and become very rich even before he got into movies.

PS Dolf Lundgren has an MSc in Chemical Engineering.

Speaking of "Trump getting elected by accident" -- from a prior post -- all this "relating everything to Trump" is free publicity for him. It means he's being talked about all the time.

A much close analogy to the devoted bride is Hillary. Yet she is probably nowhere to be found in the comments.

I don't know what it is about Liberals and Never Trumpers (who seem to think and behave like Liberals). They get a big kick out of parroting the party line, saying the same thing over and over, and issuing daily, sometimes hourly insults about Trump, or whoever the Right wing Devil of the moment is.

You'd think they'd get bored of saying "orange man bad" 20 times a day, but no, they seem to enjoy it. They even have a stock, robotic, NPC, way of conversation and writing. Its always: "X sure is bad" "Well, that's true, [see's opening] but Orange Man is even worse". They did this with Bush, but its 10x worse with Trump.

He's living in their heads rent-free. Sadly for them, his lease is likely to be renewed for another four years.

"They got married anyway"

Quite obviously the bride had a high Desperation Quotient. "He's good enough"

The bozos at Bezos's fishwrapper must watch a lot of old movies. Sexually assaulting a bridesmaid? See Corleone, Sonny at his wedding in The Godfather (Part 1). Old stuff--they need some better ideas.

Women go for bad boys.

This doesn't really seem like the level of a national news story. Still bad journalism though. Not as bad as the story of the 12 year old girl who claimed she was assaulted based on racial motivations by three boys at her school. Because in that story, thw writer of the story itself tried to link the assault to the Pences and opposition to same-sex marriage. Here in this story it is only the commentors who draw a political link. This story is bad because in declining to name the woman who was the alleged victim of assault, (which is completely fine), they state as a fact that she was assaulted rather than state it as an allegation. It is also bad journalism because the headline of the story is focused on the Bride and decision to go through with the wedding. That is an interesting tid-bit that should be included in the story, but that isn't the headline of the story. The headline of the story is a possible rape occurred of a bridesmaid by the groom. Also the story is bad journalism for elevating a story to a national level that doesn't really meet that level requirement.

As far as commentors making a political quip about the story, it isn't really surprising. I'm sure if this story was posted on predominantly right-leaning site, commentors would link it to the Clintons. A man allegedly rapes a woman, the bride 'stands by her man' and goes through with the wedding. The parallels exist.

His sister's wedding. First and only part of the book I read for years.

Did anyone in the WaPo comments section come to that conclusion as quickly as you did?

One of the negative comments was a question asking if anyone had ever seen any of Melania's modeling pictures--besides the nude shots, of course. Why yes. There are actually quite a few pictures of Melania's early modeling career. I used Bing to search and the first thing that pops up is a collage of black and white photos of the young Melania posing for photo shoots. So--once again, something that is easily disproven is just thrown out there.

There used to be a game called 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon. The short story, as I understand it, is that any person is never more than 6 personal relations away from a Kevin Bacon connection.

TDS victims play zero degrees of POTUS every day on every topic.

IIRC, since the bridesmaid was a willing participant, it wasn’t an assault.

Melania almost assuredly had modeling training and experience. She walks like a model, poses like one, and has the fashion sense and eye of a successful model. She has the best fashion sense of a First Lady, probably of our lifetimes, arguably even probably better than Jackie's. And one of the best eyes for color. We esp enjoy the contrast with Crooked Hillary, who even at her best, looked horrid, even posing for fashion magazine covers.

Most of this comes from my partner, who started modeling training young, did it so successfully that her agent (with a prominent national agency) begged her repeatedly to move to NYC. Instead, she chose to marry and have kids. She can detect modeling training a mile off, by how a person walks, and maybe more importantly, poses.

No one should be surprised though that this aspect of hers is studiously ignored. Fashion magazines, and the like are invariably very liberal, and seem to almost viscerally hate Melania’s husband.

How different are those comments from Trump's observation on celebrity, "they let you grab them by the pussy"?

Assaulting? She (the character, probably the actress too) loved it more than her husband and their three kids combined.

What on Earth could lead you to believe that ho was getting anything but the only thing she had ever wanted, that Corleone dingus?

Trump's daddy being better than Iowahawk's daddy is the whole key here.

My daddy wasn't as good as Trump's daddy must have been in Iowahawk's world (cf. Austin/Chicago).

For that, they can never forgive us.

It's bit like Chick fil A haters. Half the country is turned off but they don't care. Then Sports Illustrated and ESPN start layoffs.

Now, In N Out burger donates 50 K to Trump and hysteria ensues.

We live in some weird-ass times when the commenters want to talk about Melania Trump but it doesn't occur to anyone to remark on being so blitzed drunk -- while out on the water! -- that you can't remember whether, how, or with whom you had sex.

Yay alcohol!
