You have some talent for this. It might be something to consider if you decide to discontinue this blog.

You will need a more capable camera to do serious landscape work, though. The landscape needs, and deserves it.

I liked the second picture the best.

It just goes to show that good pictures can be made at any hour of the day. You just have to be there, and to pay attention.

Gram Parson's "She" I hope but am not certain what I heard, read, saw, felt, or knew before.

I'll only do short research for short results:

She, she, came from the land of the cotton
A land that was nearly forgotten by everyone
And she, she worked and she slaved so hard
A big old field was her back yard in the delta sun

Oh, but she sure could sing
Oh, when she sure could sing
Then he looked down and he took a little pity
The whole town swore he decided
He'd help her some
And he didn't mind if she wasn't very pretty
For deep inside his heart he knew
She was the only one

Oh, yes, she sure could sing
My, my she sure could sing
She had faith, she had believing
She led all the people together in singing
And she prays every night to the Lord up above
Singing hallelujah, hallelujah

They used to walk singing songs by the river
Even when she knew for sure
She had to go away
And she never knew what her life was to give her
And never had to worry about it
For one single day

Oh, yes, she sure could sing
Yeah yeah she sure could sing
She had faith, she had believing
She led all the people together in singing
And she prays every night to the Lord up above
Singing hallelujah, hallelujah

She she came from the land of the cotton
A land that was nearly forgotten by everyone
She, she worked and she slaved so hard
A big old field was her back yard in the delta sun
My, my, my she sure could sing
Oh, yes and she sure could sing
Ooh, yes, yes she sure could sing
Oh and she sure could sing

"Former Vice President Joe Biden's Deputy Campaign Manager, Kate Bedingfield, appeared on MSNBC to talk about the veep's opinion piece in the Washington Post. During the interview she made a rather shocking admission: Hunter Biden received permission from the Obama White House to sit on the Ukrainian oil company's board of directors. Remember: Hunter was being paid $50,000 a month even though he had no natural energy experience and his father was working on foreign relations with Ukraine at the time.

Bedingfield's statement runs contradictory to what Biden has previously said. He previously said he never spoke of business dealings with his son. If Hunter received permission to serve on the board of directors, how did this not come up in conversation between the father and son pair?"

My White river looks nothing like yours, although it's on the East side of Mt. Hood, it's not that high in elevation, but for the headwaters. Beautiful wildlife habitat. And it runs into the Lower Deschutes river canyon on it's way to the Columbia. I worked there for one summer, fall, and winter. Wouldn't want to live there. Too damn hot in the summer, and very cold in the winter. But it has it's moments.

I am trying to understand this securities fraud thing on the company that Paul Pelosi co-founded. It seems as if the company was created as a front for two convicted criminals who weren’t actually allowed to be officers in companies as part of their punishment. The prosecution was for that reason. But Nancy Pelosi’s son is in the clear because he left the company before the prosecution.

Wasn’t the crime in the founding of the company with the two banned individuals? And wasn’t Pelosi president of the company at that time? President of a company created with two securities fraudsters keeping their involvement on the down low?

It’s good to be Pelosi. Your kid skates on securities fraud.

Oh yeah, and he has a gig as an energy executive in the Ukraine. I guess his experience as a real estate agent and as president of a company founded by securities fraudsters is what qualfied him for that.

Note the date. Ukraine had already re-opened the investigation of Burisma prior to the call.

The decision to reopen the investigation into Burisma was made in March by the current Ukrainian prosecutor general, who had cleared Hunter Biden’s employer more than two years ago. The announcement came in the midst of Ukraine’s contentious presidential election, and was seen in some quarters as an effort by the prosecutor general, Yuriy Lutsenko, to curry favor from the Trump administration for his boss and ally, the incumbent president, Petro O. Poroshenko.

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/05/01/us/politics/biden-son-ukraine.html

Of course Ukraine probably dropped the investigation in the first place to curry favor with the Obama Administration. But that doesn’t count because reasons.

When his father was selected as Barack Obama’s running mate in 2008, Hunter Biden terminated his lobbying registrations, which at the time included a company that had lobbied the staff of the Senate Judiciary Committee, on which his father had served, about online gambling issues.

Months after his father became vice president, Mr. Biden joined with Christopher Heinz, the stepson of John Kerry, then a senator, and Devon Archer, a Kerry family friend, to create a network of investment and consulting firms with variations of the name Rosemont Seneca. Mr. Kerry would go on to become secretary of state.

Mr. Biden and Mr. Archer pursued business with international entities that had a stake in American foreign policy decisions, sometimes in countries where connections implied political influence and protection.

Hunter Biden’s work in Ukraine appears to have been well compensated. Burisma paid $3.4 million to a company called Rosemont Seneca Bohai LLC from mid-April 2014, when Hunter Biden and Mr. Archer joined the board, to late 2015, according to the financial data provided by the Ukrainian deputy prosecutor. The payments continued after that, according to people familiar with the arrangement.

Rosemont Seneca Bohai was controlled by Mr. Archer, who left Burisma’s board after he was charged in connection with a scheme to defraud pension funds and an Indian tribe of tens of millions of dollars. Bank records submitted in that case — which resulted in a conviction for Mr. Archer that was overturned in November — show that Rosemont Seneca Bohai made regular payments to Mr. Biden that totaled as much as $50,000 in some months.

Crony capitalism & Joe Biden’s brother
James Biden isn’t a big name in the business of residential housing development, so what exactly qualifies him to work at a construction company and share in the winnings of a $1.5 billion project to build affordable homes in Iraq?

"Bedingfield's statement runs contradictory to what Biden has previously said."

Well, of course it does- no one believed Biden's lies about it, so the fall back position is that St. Obama, he of no smidgen of corruption, approved Hunter Biden's taking the no-show job. This is what is called a trial balloon. I am guessing Obama wasn't consulted then or now.

Vermont’s Rep was on the radio this morning lying again about the phone call. You have to admire their moxie. No wonder they need to keep the hearings secret. Somebody might ask them out loud if it is unacceptable for the president to gather evidence to defend himself in an impeachment investigation, since he was and is under investigation based on stuff that happened in the Ukraine in 2016.

After reading the NYT article above, and looking at the effort that went into the whistleblower complaint, the way they changed the rules and the obvious input of a team of lawyers on it, it’s pretty clear that this is a set piece battle planned by the Democrats as a way to defend Biden by attempting to delegitimize any evidence that comes out of the Ukraine against Joe , who remains, according to the polls, their best chance to defeat Trump.

I don’t blame Althouse for getting sick of the politics here, I am too, I wish that we could have an election on the issues, but Hillary discarded the democratic norm of accepting a loss and moving on to the next election, so here we are. This is Wisconsin and Scott Walker all over again. “It’s not over until we win!”

Not to mention that they know damn well that their platform polls terribly, so they need to win by other means than convincing the public that they have the best ideas.

tim in vermont said...

If I read this poll right, I think that the Democrats may have not just be dealing with a damp squib, but it might have blown up in their faces.

I was in the Colorado mountains last Saturday (shorter trip for me), riding my bike on the roughest trail I've yet encountered. It's not very popular, so it's very difficult to follow in some spots, and it was truly amazing how much deadfall we had to climb over/under (massive amounts of beetle kill). The most interesting part was the Henderson Mine ventilation shaft we found... 1600' drop if you fall into it, according to the sign!

Re the Rockford Files, Gretchen Corbett lives in the Portland area and occasionally appears in live theater. We caught her in a play some years back. As I recall, she did a good job but otherwise I remember nothing of the production. With a very few exceptions that was our experience of Portland theater overall, which is why we haven't attended for some time now.

Maybe some overlap. Started summering in Summit County on the other side of Fremont Pass in 1970. Family bought a place there two years later. Good friend was at CMC Leadville. Dropped by there a lot, ultimately he ended up back there making snowshoes, then loading lifts at Ski Cooper.

While I am good with most of the country between Santa Fe and Butte, I actually don’t really like either. I tend to drop the final “e” on Butte. Deservedly I think. Last time we were there, this spring, we stayed at the Presidential Suite - where Obama stayed when running for election in 2008. We joked that if Crooked Hillary had won the nomination and election, the Presidential Suite would have been across town. They were there for some parade, and in Butte because it was maybe the strongest Dem stronghold in MT, due to the union presence there. Problem, of course, is that thanks, maybe, to their vigorous support for Obama, the Butte economy crashed under his Presidency.
