So most of my adult life I was 5’ 10 3/4”. The wife talked me in to pilates once a week by telling me she saw the baseball players in the studio once and a while. So a year later the nurse in the doctors office says I’m now 6’ 0 1/2”

I say it’s the pie and lattés...

How 'bout a compromise - no moderation on cafe posts?

Happy Columbus Day! Glad that European adventurers sailed around the globe as pioneers!

We uploaded some war footage from Syria,

but it turns out it was the sparklers on our daughter's birthday cake.

We regret the error.

I would totally patronize a pie and latte place -- depending on how flaky the crust was.

Agreed. I think of the limp-wristed "men without chests" who are amongst us today, sipping their lattes and shaving their publes, and compare them to those adventurers who sailed off into the unknown, with full knowledge that they might likely die.

(No wymyn amongst that cadre, of course)

If Columbus hadn't discovered America we would not have pizza because no tomatoes; we would not have mealies because no corn; we would not have Tsin-Tsin chilies and Kung Pao chicken because no chilies or peanuts; we would not have vichyssoise soup because no potatoes; we would not have chocolate; the only beans we would have would be lentils and fava beans so no chili. Unknown women in America discovered and developed all these foods and Columbus discovered America with the result that these foods were disseminated and are feeding people around the world. Why not celebrate the two together?

Two things:

1. my daughter's college suitemate's Hispanic boyfriend, who squats in their shared suite and gets blow jobs from the slutty suitemate in their shared shower, referred to my daughter as "that white bitch," and there is basically nothing she can do about it because white people aren't allowed to object to being slurred by their race

2. today one of my husband's high school friends posted on Facebook that he wanted to round up Trump voters and brand their faces with MAGA so they would have to carry around 'their shame' for the rest of their lives...Mr. Pants just defriended him rather than saying "Would you like to say to my face that you would like to physically torture my wife?" because Trump supporters aren't allowed to object to threats of violence

Arguments with these people are pointless but I also don't want to tolerate this shit. What is there to do?

What is an "impeachment inquiry? The Dems make up a story and then frenziedly pursue it around and around Washington trying to find out what that story is.

just thinkin'-- wouldnt it be interesting if a Trump plant leaked the 'info' to the 'whistleblower' (Ciaramella?)
and soon FISA abusers Contreras, J. Roberts in hot water?
and zer0 bama didnt read this "In the papers", but per Glenn Simpson's book, reveals that he was first hired to investigate Trump in "the fall of 2015" and that memos from his now-discredited Steele dossier made their way directly "to President Obama"?
maybe Christmas will come early

Per NorthoftheOneOhOne's link. Here's an excerpt from the article. It tells us a lot about the mentality of the Portlandia culture.

"Teressa Raiford, the founder of local activist group Don’t Shoot Portland and 2020 mayoral candidate, said she’s known Kealiher since he showed up looking to help organize after the 2014 shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri.

Raiford said that even as a teenager, Kealiher was well-versed in organizing tactics, and helped members learn what to expect when protesting against groups that included white supremacists.

“He introduced to us what the dynamics look like,” Raidford said. “I didn’t know there were fascists groups that would attack us. I didn’t know there were people who would respond violently.”

“He was a beautiful soul,” she added. “A kid, his age, living his life that way … that’s incredible.”

Reading the tea leaves in Louisiana, John Bel Edwards is in a runoff for the governorship, with only 46% of the vote, the rest of the state offices are holds for the Republicans, and the GOP has increased its majorities in the legislature. They now hold a supermajority in the Louisiana Senate.

What this suggests to me is that the backlash from the DC Democrats’ culture of corruption and their impeachment shenanigans is reaching far down the ticket. Let’s see what happens next month here in Virginia, to see whether it’s a nationwide trend.

Well well well.

In record time, PDJT has put Erdogan in such a bind that Erdogan himself requested the US to mediate between the Turks and the Kurds to avoid further conflict!

And this was accomplished not be adding US troops (which allows all parties to toy with those troops to advance their positions), but instead by intelligently isolating Turkey within NATO and putting economic pressure on the Turks.

Lefties and Ken B hardest hit.

Unexpectedly.

&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

How eeeaaasssy to stay back on your throne and send MEN out to do the tough, dangerous, stuff!

But that's not what happened:

https://www.csmonitor.com/USA/2011/1010/Christopher-Columbus-Five-things-you-thought-you-knew-about-the-explorer/MYTH-Queen-Isabella-of-Spain-sold-the-crown-jewels-to-pay-for-Columbus-s-voyage

After years of preparation for his first voyage, Columbus did approach – and was turned down by – the kings of Portugal, France, and England for funding, which is probably how this myth originated.

"In the end, Spain’s King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella agreed to finance his journey. While Isabella may have suggested selling the jewels at some point, her advisers assured her there were other ways to finance Columbus’s journey.

The best way to get money, they told her, was to make the city of Palos pay back a debt to the crown by providing two of the ships. Another way was to get Italian financial backing for part of the expenses. Ultimately, the crown put up very little money from the Spanish treasury."

Oddly enough, this particular piece of lunacy represents the most believable of all the lefty/dem hoaxes over the last 4 years (since we now know FusionGPS was actually hired in 2015).

That's excellent news. Save the Turkish, the Kurdish, and American lives, too, while mitigating immigration reform (and people left behind). It seems that all parties in that space are moderating their stance, and America is well positioned to coordinate an orderly withdrawal.

You seem to have missed or forgotten the post (can't recall if it was a cafe or not) that tripped the latest moderation regime. A commenter that shall not be named put up the exact same attacking screed about 50 times (I didn't actually count). The tried and true approach of just scrolling past was rendered inoperable and the post and comments unreadable.

Sad but true.

The Columbian Exchange was a double-edged sword for both Europeans and indigenous peoples. The Europeans brought diseases like smallpox and measles that literally decimated the indigenous population, spreading like wildfire and causing civilizational collapses in some areas before the white men even arrived. On the other side, the Europeans might have brought syphilis and definitely brought tobacco back with them.

They did more than decimate - in New England about ninety percent of the tribe members died. In the following years smaller waves of sickness killed many of those who remained. In consequence most of the land was empty when the Puritans began to came in 1630 and the tribes were outnumbered by 1636. So the Puritans were buying - and they did buy - empty land in exchange for kettles, axes, guns - items the tribal culture could not make. The first settler-tribal war in 1636 was caused by the Pequots' determination to hold onto the Connecticut River fur-trade route. The Peqouts were defeated because guns and upper body armor were a superior war-fighting technology to the bow and arrow and an unarmored body. Hundreds of the men were killed; and the remainder of the tribe was then dispersed - as was usual in tribal war - among the tribes who fought with the settlers - and among the settlers. The other tribes hated the Pequots because they were warlike all the time which meant slipping into the others' territory, seizing individuals and taking them home for hours of torture which the whole tribe gathered to enjoy.

Read The British Are Coming, by Rick Atkinson.

Was smallpox really all that more fatal to the indigenous tribes of North America than it was to Europeans?

Unless we kept them in isolation it seems like they would’ve caught it eventually, unless the disease was eradicated first.
