It really is beautiful place, from the photos at least, I can see why you would feel no urgency or need to travel far away.

It will be interesting to see what happens in Israel after yesterday's election. It appears that only Netanyahu can form a goverment without the Israeli Arab bloc of Knesset votes, but can't form one without the support of a former ally who insists on a unity government that excludes the minor religious right parties that Netanyahu has depended on in the past.

The coverage of this election has been exceedingly poor- they always include the Arab parties in the center-left numbers, but it isn't obvious to me that such a coalition is even possible between the Blue/Whites and the Arab List given Gantz' party manifesto.

Interesting new book, The Trayvon Hoax, by Joel Gilbert.

You remember that obese female moron who testified that she was on the phone with Trayvon while he was chasing Zimmerman? Turns out that was a lie. There was a gal named Brittany Diamond Eugene who was on the phone with Trayvon while he was chasing Zimmerman, but she refused to testify, or even publicly discuss the matter. So Crump and the Martins had her half-sister, Rachel Jeantel, pretend to be her.

Crump and the prosecutors had to know she was a ringer. They belong in prison.

As imperceptibly as Grief
The Summer lapsed away —
Too imperceptible at last
To seem like Perfidy —

A Quietness distilled
As Twilight long begun,
Or Nature spending with herself
Sequestered Afternoon —

The Dusk drew earlier in —
The Morning foreign shone —
A courteous, yet harrowing Grace,
As Guest, that would be gone —

And thus, without a Wing
Or service of a Keel
Our Summer made her light escape
Into the Beautiful.

Is this one of those free-fire-zone threads? If so, what I would like to discuss is this sudden (at least I've noticed it only recently) spate of extra-noisy cars. They sound like the drivers are gunning their engines as if they were racing in the Indy 500. I am living in a Southeast Sunbelt City that has been called "Moron Motorist Mecca," so maybe it's just here. Has anyone elsewhere noticed this as a trend? My suspicion is that it's the New Big Thing among the Dumbest Generation's Cool Kids.

"Forever Autumn" --J. Heyward

The summer sun is fading as the year grows old
And darker days are drawing near
The winter winds will be much colder
Now you're not here

I watch the birds fly south across the autumn sky
And one by one they disappear
I wish that I was flying with them
Now you're not here

Like the sun through the trees you came to love me
Like a leaf on the breeze you blew away

Through autumn's golden gown we used to kick our way
You always loved this time of year
Those fallen leaves lie undisturbed now
'Cuz you're not here

Like the sun through the trees you came to love me
Like a leaf on the breeze you blew away

A gentle rain falls softly on my weary eyes
As if to hide a lonely tear
My life will be forever Autumn
'Cuz you're not here

A gentle rain falls softly on my weary eyes
As if to hide a lonely tear
My life will be forever Autumn
'Cuz you're not here

( comes to mind around 9/11 )

Saw this interesting question in Kyle Smith National review: "Has Stier ever actually told this story under penalty of perjury?" Has anyone other than Ford testified under oath against Kavanaugh? (These questions are not rhetorical, I don't know the answers.) I wonder what would happen if the republicans in the house judiciary committee insisted on a vote on the question of whether to call Stier, and other accusers, to testify under oath. I guess they are guided by the admonition not to ask a question to which you don't know the answer. But I, for one, would like to see what happens under this approach.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

Doesn't the Senate Judiciary committee have an investigative staff, that has the power to compel testimony under oath? Something the FBI background investigators cannot do.
That's why the dems squealing as they are, ignore the fact, Diane Feinstein, never sent her investigators to interview all of these witnesses that had the dirt on Kavanaugh. Strange that such serious accusations never garnered the attention of DiFi's investigative Dick Tracy Troops.

its interesting that there's been almost no coverage of the Gilbert book in the MSM. It doesn't fit the narrative. I can remember - at the time - bringing up the fact that Trayvon had posed with guns and had bugler tools in his locker, and got some big-time liberal screeching at me that I was "Defaming a dead child". Another liberal, a movie critic, when I simply provided a FACT that Trayvon was a 160 lbs. HS athlete and NOT a 12 y/o child, banned me on twitter.

The whole Zimmerman-trayvon case provided us some insight into the crazy liberal mind and how the MSM builds false narratives, pushes them on everyone, and then disregards all the inconvenient truth/facts, to keep the Narrative alive. And of course, the cowardice of Conservatism Inc. Dreher and Lowry wanted to burn Zimmerman at the stake.

’So Crump and the Martins had her half-sister, Rachel Jeantel, pretend to be her.’

It was obvious to me while watching the trial that she wasn’t the girl on the phone. She had rehearsed her story to the best of her limited ability, but her ‘memory’ fell apart at several places along the timeline. Too much detail, re: some elements, but a total lack of recall for others. Total bullshit.

There are several players in that charade who needed to be punished. Sickening.

My goldenrod poem contribution:

Autumn Day

Lord: it's time. The summer was immense.
Now lay your shadows on the sundials
And over the fields let the winds loose.

Command the last fruits to be fulfilled:
Give them just two more southerly days,
Urge them to completion then, and press
The final sweetness into the heavy wine.

The one who has no house now will not build.
The one who is alone now will remain alone,
Will wake, read, write lengthy letters,
And back and forth along the boulevards
Will wander restlessly through falling leaves.

I have a weed garden of "expendable" plants where my septic tank is. I may plant some goldenrod there for next year, once it goes to seed. I'll go gather some along some road here.

The weed garden is where my milkweed is. I collected some thistle seeds last week and dropped them in there hoping that a few come up next spring. The milkweed amazes me how it comes back after being completely defoliated by the Monarch caterpillars. Unfortunately the butterflies lay far more eggs than my few plants can support, so most of the chrysalides die, but a few adults emerge.

The butterflies and many interesting bees and flies apparently depend on these humble plants. It makes the garden more interesting, and when the tank gets opened next month, lots of buried seeds will be exposed to germinate next year, and no perennials will be sacrificed in the process.

A big stand of goldenrod (I am not allergic) is a handsome thing.

Suppose the government tells you it wants you to pay taxes to support public education (whether you have kids, or send them to public school, or not). And then the government says it is going to let all the kids (who are required by law to attend school) out of school to attend a political rally (e.g., to strike against climate change), and meanwhile it will pay all the teachers, administrators, janitors, etc. for that day, using your tax dollars to do so.

Is that compelled speech? If I object to the use of my tax dollars to support political activity favored by the government, can I get anywhere by trying to extend Janus to this case?

Watching China Syndrome (1979). Boorish station manager not giving Jane Fonda a hard news position because they hired her for her body so she should do the soft stuff that she does so well. I imagine this means she'll do a great job on hard news later.

Nevertheless she's an actor hired to do the soft stuff that she does best. So a full analysis of that story of the boorish manager and the ambitious serious woman would have to include the frivolous woman acting a serious woman forced to do frivolous work.

Just before Charles I was executed he told the assembled witnesses that if the powers could do this to him, their King, just think how the powers could treat those now assembled if they fell out of favor with those powers. Well, Kavanaugh hasn't yet been beheaded, but the same principle holds true. First they came for the Supreme Court Justices.

Hot damn. No moderation....Continuing with the same thought: They should make a move about LaVoisier. He was the French chemist who was guillotined during the terror of the French Revolution on utterly specious grounds. Mostly the powers wanted to confiscate his property because he was rich. Lavoisier had a hot wife who was also a gifted scientist so maybe there's a feminist angle.....No chance of such a movie ever being made though. If only he had been killed by the Inquisition or the fascists, he would be the subject of movies, plays, epic poems, HBO series. Instead he's memorialized with a mouthwash.

Although not directly recoverable anymore, Monica Byrne tweeted:

Though I honestly don't know how newsworthy it is?--given that Melania and 45's marriage is obviously dead to begin with. But here it is: word is, for many years, Melania's been having an affair with the head of security at Tiffany's in the Trump Tower lobby. And this seems like the kind of thing that would embarrass him. So: have at.

And I should say right off the bat: no, I can't reveal my source. So I guess this is the kind of leak that's more like a tip. As in: HEY JOURNALISTS WHO INVESTIGATE THIS SORT OF THING: look into it via other channels.

For me, it was Andrew Branca at Legal Insurrection. He is an attorney whose practice includes a lot of Self Defense work, and has a good book out on the subject, that I strongly recommend if you ever carry a firearm either concealed or openly in public. Branca intensely has covered every major self defense killing since then, and every couple weeks uses some case or another to teach a self defense law lesson.

I didn’t get hooked on CTH until SpyGate started to break, and, in particular their analysis of the Strzok/Page text messages.
