"I informed John Bolton last night that his services are no longer needed at the White House. I disagreed strongly with many of his suggestions..."

"... as did others in the Administration, and therefore I asked John for his resignation, which was given to me this morning. I thank John very much for his service. I will be naming a new National Security Advisor next week."

Said President Trump, quoted in "Trump Fires John Bolton as National Security Adviser" (NYT).
His departure comes as Mr. Trump is pursuing diplomatic openings with two of the United States’ most intractable enemies, efforts that have troubled hard-liners in the administration, like Mr. Bolton, who view North Korea and Iran as profoundly untrustworthy.

The president has continued to court Kim Jong-un, the repressive leader of North Korea, despite Mr. Kim’s refusal to surrender his nuclear program and despite repeated short-range missile tests by the North that have rattled its neighbors. In recent days, Mr. Trump has expressed a willingness to meet with President Hassan Rouhani of Iran under the right circumstances, and even to extend short-term financing to Tehran, although the offer has so far been rebuffed.

To his admirers, Mr. Bolton was supposed to be a check on what they feared would be naïve diplomacy, a cleareyed realist who would keep a president without prior experience in foreign affairs from giving away the store to wily adversaries. But Mr. Trump has long complained privately that Mr. Bolton was too willing to get the United States into another war....

Please allow me to rephrase that.

I'm curious what it adds to the blogosphere (is there even such a thing anymore?) to just re-post some quotes from that NYTimes article. Trump clearly lied about how it happened, there's the issue of which philosophies did or should prevail in foreign policy, and the drawbacks of excessive belligerence as a defining feature of a "nationalist" perspective. All interesting things to explore and things that even your audience here could probably enjoy discussing. So why just keep it at yet another uncritical, verbatim re-hash of an obvious Trump lie that does nothing more than recycle his self-serving spin on it?

Select paragraphs from an article at The Atlantic by Graeme Wood:

Donald Trump tweeted this morning that he had fired his national security adviser, John Bolton, and that Bolton’s “services are no longer needed at the White House.” The cold language was not accidental, and it was a strategically odd way to fire a man best known for being hell-bent on revenge against those who have crossed him. This is not how you release a valued counselor who has rescued you from repeated embarrassment, but whose views have gently deviated from your own. This is how you fire the pool boy. This is how you fire the guy you overheard cracking wise in the break room about your haircut. This is how you fire someone who has strong opinions, and who has gradually made clear that one of those opinions is that you are a complete imbecile.
...
...
Then there was Tucker Carlson, a figure without precedent in American politics. On the June 21 broadcast of Carlson’s show, just as Bolton was urging a military response to Iran, Carlson devoted a long segment to comparing Bolton to a “tapeworm” that had infested the Republican security establishment and that now was feasting on the ample guts of Trump himself. Carlson has reportedly served as an informal adviser to Trump, and his show sometimes seems intended for an audience of one (the occupant of the Oval Office). Days after that show, when Bolton was packing his bags for Mongolia, Carlson accompanied Trump to Korea. By all evidence, the president preferred his advice to the advice he was getting in-house.

The question I asked at the time—how long can Bolton put up with this?—now has an answer. “I disagreed strongly with many of his suggestions, as did others in the Administration,” Trump tweeted after firing Bolton and before thanking him for his service. Bolton, in his own tweet minutes later, sounded stunned: “I offered to resign last night and President Trump said, ‘Let’s talk about it tomorrow’”—implying that Trump’s tweet amounted to saying, “You can’t quit—you’re fired!” (No doubt the dispute about whether Bolton was fired or quit voluntarily will affect Bolton’s COBRA coverage. But that is a matter for White House HR.)
...

...Trump’s willingness to hold talks may or may not be wise, but there is little doubt that Bolton considers it comically naive. He would prefer that Trump line up the world’s dirtbag dictators and read them a riot act for a new century, with a guarantee of humiliation and ruin for anyone who defies America and its allies. This riot act would not mention luxury condos.

...
Most Trump appointees have left quietly, and have begun murmuring their discontent only after a decorous interval. Bolton’s dismissal has come after an unusually long prelude of disrespect, both by Trump and by favored allies such as Carlson. And the tweet itself must sting. Obviously it was intended to. Bolton might not observe the same period of silence. In talking to his former associates, I heard many marvel at his energy. He wakes up before dawn to plot against his adversaries. He accepts every invitation to write op-eds and go on television to ridicule those who disagree with him. Trump has, in firing Bolton, made an enemy of a man incapable of rest and letting grudges go. Tomorrow morning he will wake up and start plotting, as he usually does. It’s 3 a.m. Do you know who your ex–national security adviser’s enemies are?

Bolton has bolted faster than Bolt. From reading another source, the problem with Bolton isn't that he disagreed with Trump, its that he would leak to sabotage actions/negotiations he didn't agree with. Plus, he just didn't disagree with Trump, in was over-the-top in his disagreements. Trump obviously doesn't surround himself with "yes Men" but seems to hire too many nutters.

The problem with Afghanistan is that outside actors have been backing the Taliban since the mid-1990's. Back then it was the Saudis, more recently Pakistan. Without Pakistan's aid, the Taliban would have been wiped out years ago. And we should not forget that when we finally found Bin Laden, it was less than a mile from the Pakistan Military Academy.

Since we don't actually want to go to war with Pakistan, I don't see any good alternative to getting out. We could just supply weapons and intel to the former Northern Alliance people, but that might not be enough. Maybe help the Indians help the Afghan government.

We should have a policy of helping and supporting our allies. Israel is one such ally, Great Britain is another. The Pakistanis are backing people who are killing Americans, and it's pretty likely that without their support of the Taliban in 2000 and 2001, 9/11 wouldn't have happened. They have a lot to answer for. It would seem the least we could do is be a lot more friendly with India as a way of helping Pakistan see the errors of its ways.

It's actually pretty common for White House aides in every administration to get fired for aggrandizing themselves at the expense of the administration. Bolton was most likely the source for the stories reporting his strong opposition to bringing the Taliban to Camp David. If he was, he deserved to be fired.

As a political appointee, it's always your job to make the boss look good. If you want to criticize him, quit and run for office yourself. And even then you should not be telling tales out of school.

Another THOUGHT... about me. Actually, it's a guess. Actually, it's just some shit you made up (with FullMoon's "help") and a line you stick with because it makes you feel better about your silly old self and the fact that you never have an original thought, and even say things so witlessly that I call you out for them. And that fucks up your shit.

...who hates success and are envious or prosperity.

You conservatives are real weirdos. What the hell does this even MEAN? Sounds like it's you who hates or is envious of my own success and prosperity. It just really fucks up your old man brain to accept that someone you hate as much as ME can still have decent work, a good career, investments, educational/professional attainment, AND be smart and original enough to prove you to be a FOOL when you say stupid things. Your decrepit ego won't allow for it and makes things up about me to compensate. That's pathetic.

You seek out private information and post obnoxious and obscene comments.

And you post obnoxious ideas. All your ideas are obnoxious.

Maybe try being obscene every now and then. Your uptightness is part of what causes you to implode every time you see me.

And no one "sought out private information," dumb fuck. When you post personal things about your stupid, self-serving, boastful self in public out here, others are still allowed to comment on it. So if you find your snowflake self so offended when I mention your upbringing by a nursemaid in Chicago, then don't talk about it. No one finds it as interesting as you do, any way.

You remind me of some of the sick leftist commenters from back in the days with lefty blogs.

What a generic, inane and boring comment. I'd say you "remind me of some of the sick right wing commenters from back in the days with right wing blogs," but that would imply that you're not uniquely stupider than even the most mundane, garden variety right winger. Even the dumbest right winger suspects that he's less interesting than he wishes he were. But you lack the self awareness to discover even that.

Disagree on single payer and they go seeking nasty family facts to post obscene crap.

Someone should have smacked his face years ago. He's like the drunk at the cocktail party who endlessly boasts of his glory days. People either walk away from him or kindly escort him to the door to remind him that the night must surely be over by now and BTW does he have a designated driver? He just expects everyone to kiss his hairy wrinkled ass and hasn't taken a good hard look at it in so long that he can't understand why no one's been lining up to pucker up.

Mike - you should get one of those full-length body mirrors and take a good look at it once again. You're not the crowning glory that you think you are. Got on this blog and read comments about 9:15 pm. At that time all Fen's comments were gone. No loss, apparently.

Trump's actions were to tell the Taliban to go home and fire John Bolton. I expect Bolton was trying to bake in a solution or a failure to find a solution by contacting the Taliban or someone else and making commitments and agreements behind Trump's back. I could be wrong but looking at the whole picture that's how it strikes me. I can easily understand that people who have been around DC a long time and have lots of experience think they can, should and will run the show. That's what sixteen Republican presidential candidates and Hillary Clinton and James Comey and John Brennan and Robert Mueller and Rex Tillerson and the Failing NYT with its Pulitzer prize for Russia collusion coverage that never found out that Russia collusion didn't exist - and on and on, they all thought it. And ISIS thought that. And John Bolton, who is a good guy, thought that. Bill Kristol who I used to admire thought that. Trump isn't going to explain his tactics and Trump is going to run the show.

And Althouse is going to run her blog the way she wants.

So that's two things that are settled. Or is it two things that are impossible for some people to accept?

As for states with the highest-paying employers, New York topped the list with averages at $61.62 per hour, or $128,170 per year, followed by New Jersey with mean wages of $60.48 per hour, or $125,790 per year.

Yep. I make more than that, too.

Yeah, actually, that was your attempt at impressing me. Did the research. Did the math. Came to a conclusion. Made an assumption...impressed me, alot.
Then, you crashed into all caps and got deleted. Lol.
Have a good night, you romantic genius.

Can someone who speaks construction worker translate this into English?

I mean, I've walked by construction sites before. Very articulate and intelligent gents - I'm not saying they're not. They're well known for hooting and hollering their sophisticated and elaborate feminist theories (or whatever FM upholds as the superior sexual philosophy) to all within earshot.

Anyway, FM seems to be saying that, despite his lack of education, his lack of any decent childhood, and his lack of anything resembling an interesting career or anything to contribute to these comments threads, he's the King of General Contractors. Oh, and he doesn't stoop to any of that crude or low class talk with the ladies!

So he's the Larry Fortensky of the blog. Who says that construction workers can't marry up?

ROFLMAO!!!

It’s funny (not in a comedic sense, well maybe just a bit or a lot) that the ‘news’ isn't that Bolton isn’t the National Security Advisor, but the Twitter commentary is the news.

Reality has left the building for the media.
