"I always imagined my anxiety as this little monster that would kind of attack my face or pull at my ears... and I would just go, hey, oh, hey, buddy... it's was like a little monkey and I would just go okay, sit on my shoulder, let's hang out."

Did everyone else get I'm Bill Hader and anxiety is like a monkey that wants to eat my face?

I love his work BTW. He's good as the edgy and mentally challenged Barry. Apparently channeled from his reality.

Chuck, pay attention to this video. Get yourself a little monkey and let him help you deal with your neurosis. Little monkeys don't have to be just for anxiety anymore!

Bill Hader was one of the better more recent SNL people. I haven't checked out Barry since I don't feel like paying $15 a month for HBO Go, but I've heard good things.

I have HBO but hardly ever use it. Maybe I'll check that out.

Hader is talented and generous to talk about this. Anxiety/panic attacks can be frightening, particularly to kids.

Barry is pretty good. I would give it an 80 Tomato Meter.

Bill Hader is one of my favorite actors and has been for many years now, starting from when he was on SNL (when I used to watch it years ago). I originally loved him for his comedic work and voice over acting, but his dramatic turn (although it might be better categorized as dark comedy) in Barry is truly great stuff! I also urge people to check out Documentary Now, where he works in front of and behind the camera. It originally airs on IFC, but the first two seasons are currently on Netflix.
P.S. I also know nothing of his political opinions or voting patterns, and as he grows in popularity, I sincerely hope it stays that way!!

The little monkeys on his shoulder look like Cary Grant and Rosalind Russell.

That was sweet.

And Barry is excellent.

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs is one of our family's favorite movies.

Cognitive behavioral therapy would help a lot of people just like it helped him. Too many people think medication is the easy fix. Talking things through can really help.

I feel fortunate- anxiety about normal life activities isn't something I think I have ever actually had, at least not very acute anxiety.

In days gone by, I wasn’t much of a fan of Hader’s. However, Documentary Now!, his brilliant collaboration with Fred Armisen caused me to reassess him. It is clear that Hader, like Armisen, is one of the great comic geniuses of our time. If you haven’t seen Documentary Now! yet, Joe Bob says check it out. With all due haste.

Anxiety: the downside of overexcitability, which may sound a mouthful but rolls off the tongue easier than superstimulatability.

Dabrowski puts emotions at the center of his theory of personality development, his theory of positive disintegration.

Damasio and Dabrowski, each in their respective fields, converge on the centrality of emotional responses, although I don't recall Damasio ever referencing Dabrowski.
