Fighting for Iowa.

ADDED: There's a new Des Moines Register poll, reported here by CNN. Warren now has 22% of the likely Iowa caucusgoers. Biden has 20%.
Sen. Bernie Sanders' support has dipped to 11% in this poll, with South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg at 9% and Sen. Kamala Harris at 6%. Sens. Cory Booker and Amy Klobuchar each land at 3%, while Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, former Rep. Beto O'Rourke, investor Tom Steyer and businessman Andrew Yang each have the backing of 2% of likely caucusgoers. The poll marks Gabbard's third qualifying poll for inclusion in October's Democratic debates. The rest of the field each notched 1% or less....
Harris is exactly where she was in the previous Des Moines Register poll.
For many in the field, a summer spent campaigning in Iowa has done little to improve their chances there. Aside from Warren, no candidate has made meaningful gains in overall support...

So steak is OK now? Is there a website that we can check to keep track of when it's OK to have beef, and when it's not, when natural gas is better than coal, and when it's not, etc.?

There's really nothing more to say about Kamala other than..."Hey...who's going to offer me that VP position? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?"

the Polk City Democrats "Claim" to be from Iowa
So, what do they cook? Nebraska Steaks
If (i mean IF!) they were actually Iowans, they'd be cooking Pork Chops

{and YES, I called them the Polk City Democrats... It's a Slur, get it?}

Free college, free health care, free steaks! That's how to win in Iowa.

Harris won’t even be the Veep because Warren will be the nominee. If she chooses a female running mate (who can’t even deliver her home state since CA is a lock already), it will be an admission that the cause is hopeless and they will settle for calling us sexist for the next 4 years.

James Sarver said...

Hopefully she has been warned that Iowans may not show her their famous hospitality.

Professor Hill gave it a try though and found love and an honest job, so it can actually work out there for a scam artist.

Assuming, for the sake of argument, that Fauxcahontus IS the nominee...
Who WILL be her VP? I'm guessing Cory Booker?

Iowa is definitely a pork state. Nebraska is the Beef State.

Warren is such a transparent fraud and intolerable scold, I don't think even today's brainless Democrats could bring themselves to vote her into the Presidency. Then again, they did fall for Collusion, Kavanaugh, etc., so they might fall for her routine, too.

Getting criminals off the street is good "for the little people." The "big" people don't usually live in that part of town.

Damn close. I see one AA guy and two white dudes, way back.

Ed Bastian, CEO of Delta Air Lines, does something similar. In photos where Ed appears with groups of Members of the Delta Family (tm), there is rarely a white man within arm's reach of him.

I speculate that any WM that close to him may be a representative of the LGBTQ community.

I was at this thing yesterday with my wife who's a dem. It was a fun event, if you don't take things too seriously. I got speak with Tulsi for a bit. All of the candidates are batty to one degree or another, but few of them are dumb. The "I'm moving to Iowa" type statements are given and taken with a wink. Nobody should get too wound up about them.

The most disturbing thing about the day, was that in their speeches several candidates used the Charlottesville statements ("I'm sure there are good people on both sides") as proof of DJT's racism. This is demonstrably wrong, vile and unhelpful to anyone.

Sen. Harris' posters were absolutely weird though. I wish I'd picked up an example, but they were a close-up of her smiling face done in purple and green. It had the affect of presenting her as the Wicked Witch of the West. Not a political statement, but a graphic one. They were really bad.

Andrew Yang really caught the crowd's attention. Not saying he'll go anywhere, but he made people listen and think.

Jay Vogt said...

Okay, I see in the picture that it was not green but kind of an acid yellow. My WWotW observation stands though.

Will they ever offer a poll with "none of the above" as an option? I'd love to see that one.

Seriously. Going back to business as usual with an economy weighed down by more insane regulations and renewed support for the mullahs against Israel and more backroom deals benefiting Democratic Party donors doesn't sound like an optimist future for the rest of us.

Steyer's tv commercials run, At Least Once, per Every tv break. He makes it clear, that If Nominated:
He will;
A) Assume Power without an election
B) suspend the Constitution
C) Arrest ALL Republicans
D) Power the Country on Unicorn Farts

Well, I for one, am appalled. Outraged! Who FRIES a steak! If you aren't going to BBQ like a civilized person.... You might sear it in a cast iron pan or steel flat plate grill and then gently cook to the desired degree of done-ness (medium rare at most). Perhaps baste frequently with some garlic butter.

But FRY!!! NEVER!!!! Almost as horrifying as well done steak with catsup. HURK!!

Heathens.

Right about now the Democrats could choose Ted Cruz as their candidate- and I'd still vote for Trump. Trump is now a proven quantity. (Not sure if quantity is the right word....) I can see what he's accomplished- and tried to accomplish- and I like both. Four more years of judges picked by the Federalist society seem like a good thing for the betterment of America.

I see Booker is just about out of the race, too. I think Harris makes it to South Carolina, but after that she will withdraw. Right now, I think Iowa will have Biden, Warren, Sanders, Harris, Buttuvwxyz, and Klobuchar. After New Hamphire it will be Biden, Warren, Sanders, and Harris, and after South Carolina, Biden, Warren, and Sanders.

Yancey Ward said...

And the new Iowa poll tells me that I was right- Warren is the true frontrunner.

Yancey Ward said...

The Godfather,

If Biden withdrew months before Iowa, I think Warren would likely pick up most of the support that actually shows up to vote, with maybe Harris or Klobuchar getting the rest. I am just wondering whether, before Iowa, Obama gives an endorsement to someone.

She will get 110% of the Iowa City vote and do pretty well among union voters in Davenport and Des Moines.

Iowa may be a purple state, but the life-long Dems there are really dedicated. They sincerely believe that all Republicans are stupid, greedy, and evil racists.

In fairness to Tom Harkin and the rest of the Polk City Democrats; a steak fry is (almost?) Always on charcoal grills. I have No Idea WHY they don't call it a cook out (or such), but they were using the phrase Steak Fry before i got to central iowa (1980).
But, That's what they call it, even though they're grilling not frying

ps. The last two steaks I cooked (Last weekend, Prune Creek Campground, Bighorn Mountains); i cooked in a cast iron skillet, in bacon grease. . . They were yummy (so was the trout that i cooked the same way (different grease).

I agree with J Severs. It's not fair that Iowa gets 3 resident senators and California is left with only one. Shouldn't there be a special election in California to replace Senator Harris? For Iowa, they may have 3 senators but are still stuck with only 2 votes per state.

None of the dem candidates are serious people with serious, or noteworthy, ideas. They are all empty suits pushing stale 100 year old ideas, just using new 'issues' to push them. Its embarrassing to watch.

The nation would be best served if they all died. I don't care how.

DavidUW said...

Too bad my prediction has worked out.
I stated many times that Harris will not win the nomination and she wouldn't play well in the Midwest.

I was hoping somehow that the identity crowd in the Dem caucus would nominate her so that she could lose every state but possibly California, NY and Illinois to Trump.

Warren will lose to Trump too. it'll just be closer than Harris vs. Trump.
Warren is just Hilary 2.0 with less stumbling, but also even less appeal to black voters. If Trump gets 20% of the black vote and a decent percent stay home like last election, he wins in a landslide (i.e. there's no way Warren wins MI, PA, WI). He already has 20+% approval...and that's before Warren campaigns for real. The more she campaigns, the higher the negatives will go, just like Hilary. For reference, she's still not polling first among democrats in the state where everyone knows her, Massachusetts.

Sebastian said...

"I don't support anyone. I have taken a position of cruel neutrality."

Yeah, yeah. We've heard that before. So, between the coup plotters and mad leftists on one side and Trump on the other, Althouse is "neutral." In view of her stated criteria, Warren is just as serious as Trump, just as good at "expressing American values. Got it.

As this confirms, nothing progs have done thus far has--not the coup, not the Russia hoax, not the Kavanaugh hoax, not antifa, not Medicare for All, not forgiveness of student loans, not Fauxahontas' Indian cheating, not the lies about Michael Brown, not the deplorables-are-racist drumbeat--has caused the nice Althouses of America to draw the line. Cuz they are "neutral," you see. "Cruelly," meaning self-satisfiedly, neutral.

Anyway, looking forward to the rationalizations come decision time.

This is why Trump is going for the popular vote. He is campaigning in New Mexico and CA.

If he should get a popular vote majority next year, California, which has an NPV law, will have to vote for Trump in the EC.

It would be worth a lot to watch them when that happens.

gilbar said...

I'm pretty sure their law (like all the others) says it doesn't come into effect until enough states pass similar laws so that they total greater than 270 votes.

Of Course; IF and WHEN these laws went into effect, upon a republican winning the popular vote...
They just need to
A) have the governor call a special session
B) vote to repeal the law
C) tell their electors that it would "Be in the best interests of their health" of they followed the New law

Or is she surrounded by sycophants who were too timid to tell her it was a bad idea to broadcast the results?
